I'd recommend to wait for some time before tackling the 2nd quest, it can be really exhausting and it's easy to get burned after coming from the regular game
>Zelda 2
That's the one you should avoid. Isn't like Zelda 1 at all but some failed sidescroller experiment. ALTTP (or ALBW, playing both is imo a bit redundant for people who aren't hardcore fans), OoS and LA are the next stop
Yeah I've been playing Zelda 2 for about an hour and a half and it's not filling the void left by Zelda 1. I can see the appeal for fans of 8-bit action games but it's not for me. I've already played ALLTP and LA, I think I might actually try Golden Axe Warrior on the SMS I've heard good things
>like almost all of the games that this board pretends to like over Zelda
Yeah two anons out of a hundred that prefer Beyond Oasis over A Link to the Past, it's a real epidemic
Zelda 2 is great but yeah it doesn't focus on exploration too much and is a pretty different kind of game. Have you done Metroid? Metroid 1 and 3 are about exploration.
It's weird but sidescrolling exploration bores me for some reason, I want top-down or isometric. One of my least favorite parts of The Legend of Zelda is when you find items in dungeons and it switches to sideview, really smart of ALTTP to do away with that shit and just have Link open a treasure chest
That word causes Solstice to suddenly pop into my head. It's not the same kind of game, but what the heck maybe try that. Lots of exploring to do there.
if youre going for isos you got crystalis right over there.

Crystalis is great but it's not all that Zeldalike really. Well, it's more like Zelda 2 actually, though obviously without the side-view camera. That is, it usually has you going from one general area focused around a town to another such area, linearly, with a lot of action along the way. There is openness but not at the Zelda 1 level. And there are puzzle-ish challenges but they're more RPG-style puzzles that are tied in with the story, where you have to give the right thing to the right person etc., than they are geometric push-the-correct-block or find-the-way-to-reach-the-blacked-out-room-on-the-map stuff that you might do in Zelda. Anyway OP if that sounds good to you then play Crystalis because it is good.

OP here, that does sound pretty damn good. I'll play Crystalis after I finish Golden Axe Warrior
Again Zelda 2nd Quest is definitely worth it if you liked the 1st quest.
After that, you can try Neutopia for the Turbografix-16 / PC Engine. It's not as good as Zelda but is clearly based on the original NES game.
hate to say it cuz i like the pc engine but both neutopia games suck ass. just uninspired junk with weak map design. i would recommend ys 4 dawn of ys or xak 3 on pc engine over these.
Just play Zelda 2. You know how people online say that Zelda 1 is crazy hard cause you've got to bomb every wall and burn every bush? You are probably aware now that that was complete bullshit, but those statements are completely true of the second quest. You will bomb every wall, burn every bush, and play the whistle on every screen . I do like the dungeon layouts though, they're actually a fun challenge and nice to map out.
Zelda 2 is great. If you don't mind using a translation app go for the famicom version. It uses a different leveling system that improves the pacing. I didn't care for the second quest but it's more of the same if you want more Zelda 1.
When I beat it for the first time few years ago I played the second quest right away. Didn't regret, enjoyed it almost as much as the first quest, so I'd suggest you doing the same.
I liked Zelda 2 more than most people but holy shit that final cave passage made me want to rip my hair out. Anyone that has played through the game knows what I'm talking about.
The final dungeon is still way worse. I got so gud that I'm practically able to get to it without dying but the dungeon itself still rapes my ass every time I replay the game. Imagine if the game didn't save there, and it would absolutely be the case if Zelda 2 was originally on carts. The only reason it saves before entering the final dungeon is because of disk switching on the FDS, the dungeon is on Side B or whatever
>Just beat this for the first time and loved it. Is the Second Quest worth doing
Yes.
If you liked the first quest the second quest is definitely worth it.
it's pretty cryptic relative to the main quest, go with zelda 2 and save it for a replay
I'd recommend to wait for some time before tackling the 2nd quest, it can be really exhausting and it's easy to get burned after coming from the regular game

try lttp, it is more like zelda 1
nagger read the whole post before replying
golden axe warrior is a decent genuine clone. the hit detection is not great, but it has the same prying secrets of zelda 1 and towns.
All this talk of inferior hydlikes and no mention of the original baka...
But is it good?
Try it out yourself. It's very fucking bad like almost all of the games that this board pretends to like over Zelda
>like almost all of the games that this board pretends to like over Zelda

nintendo fans really have a persecution complex huh.
Just like Nintendo haters

>That's the one you should avoid.
No. Let me shill a video about it:
Play Zelda 2, as long as you don't fall for the improvement romhacks meme. Don't listen to the people saying to the play the Japanese version either.
wait an e-eceleb said Zelda 2 isn't bad?! That means it must good and we were lied to the whole time!! The conspiracies!!!
>wait an e-eceleb said Zelda 2 isn't bad?!
The first thing AVGN said in his Zelda 2 episode is that he liked the game
I'm skeptical about improvement patches myself, but what do you dislike about the Zelda 2 patch?
Just play Zelda 2. You know how people online say that Zelda 1 is crazy hard cause you've got to bomb every wall and burn every bush? >You will bomb every wall, burn every bush, and play the whistle on every screen
and you will like it.
play the second quest. be aware of trick walls.
its all downhill from here unfortunately.
dungeon maps in quest 2 are fantastic.
>its all downhill from here unfortunately.
Only if you're a 50 year old nostalgia fag
2nd quest is not very good, and a lot of its design is just annoying. i wouldnt bother with it
Zelda 2 is great. If you don't mind using a translation app go for the famicom version. It uses a different leveling system that improves the pacing. I didn't care for the second quest but it's more of the same if you want more Zelda 1.
japanese Zelda 2 is unfinished compared to the western version
I found the leveling system and XP reduction not worth the extra boss fight and visual variety. To each their own.
It's overall not worse than the international one. Believe it or not I actually prefer its leveling up system to the 'upgraded' one
When I beat it for the first time few years ago I played the second quest right away. Didn't regret, enjoyed it almost as much as the first quest, so I'd suggest you doing the same.
>Этaж-9
Fuck off, I'm not Russian. Just played games in your shit language back then.
