bn4 is legendarily infamous for its poor reception. none of the five games even in their lowest moments come close to 4's deserved punching bag status
OK. Guys, I hear you and agree.
HOWEVER. BN4 is pretty good to come back to as a series veteran.
-action and boss fights back to back. Some nonsense in between, but you actually do hit the boss fights very quickly compared to other games.
-a very strong Navi customizer with a 1-block BugStop
-very strong Souls
-a high power, high skill, V-code folder. (easy access to 4 Varswords)
It's a tournament style game that I really enjoyed when I came back to it later. You've got to appreciate the ability to replay scenarios even after having beat the game.
A very bumpy road full of highs and lows.
Don't listen to 2 may be amazing, but 1 is dated as hell, and 3 does everything in it's power to be as much of a slog as possible. 4 has some weirdness but is alright, 5 drags on too long, and 6 is the only game that reaches the same highs as 2 did.
To be fair Press fucking sucks donkey dick and the Iceball segment is dumb, only a handful of things outside of 4 are nearly as cancerous. Rest of the game is brilliant though.
I will never understand why people suck 3 off so much.
The navicust was shit and they forced you to run shrink at all times as well as the stupid energy change shit later.
Half of the bosses hide behind some sort of shield or some shit to be as tedious as possible to deal damage to.
Now instead of being allowed to have two styles you are limited to one and must grind 200 battles again if you want to go back to one you had before, oops but you'll also have to do this up to four times maybe because you might not get the element you had before!
Also the hospital is genuinely the worst scenario in the whole fucking series, it made me realize that even BN1 was better than 3 when I was going through these games again in the collection.
I've beaten the game twice, its fucking dogshit and your response proves it.
Let me guess, you don't like BN4 right? Damn, guess you just got filtered, lol its totally actually the best game ever you just got filtered is all :*~~
nagger
2 3 and 6 are the only good games. 1 4 and 5 are garbage. 5 is only liked by people who don't actually like playing Megaman Battle Network for the battling.
>forced you to run shrink at all times
You only need it to travel through Yoka, Beach, to get to the Undernet (which you can then immediately take it off), and that one area in Secret. Less than half the game is not "at all times" >stupid energy change shit later
You need it for exactly 2 parts of the entire game. >half of the bosses hide behind some sort of shield or some shit to be as tedious as possible to deal damage to
Other than Bass, who are you talking about? Alpha? Flame Man and Bubble Man conditionally? I guess Serenade? >200 battles again if you want to go back to one you had before
It's literally half of that. >the hospital is genuinely the worst scenario in the whole fucking series
Play BN4 before making such a ridiculous claim.
Souls are the best form-change in the series and require folders to be built around them with a sacrifice for the power-up they provide.
Would it be fair to say you don't like folder building?
Desert Man hides behinds his hands/pillars (I think that's cheesable with water in some way, I forget), Drill Man has that drillhead (I remember hating this homosexual in particular as a kid), I think Japan(lol) Man had a counter of some sort, and Proto Man is Proto Man. Most of those can be bypassed in some way so it's largely a skill/folderbuilding issue but he has a point.

Drillman is a dirty son of a bitch. But bubbleman is worse
>You only need it to travel through Yoka, Beach, to get to the Undernet (which you can then immediately take it off), and that one area in Secret. Less than half the game is not "at all times"
You are traveling through those areas a lot, and I know from my first playthrough that its not worth it to try and take it off ever since you'll waste a ton of time going in and out of navicust over and over. >You need it for exactly 2 parts of the entire game.
And they are some of the worst cancer this series has produced. Not only does the fucking thing eat up your navicust space, but it also demands that you feed it chips constantly, chips that you very likely have been feeding to the chip trader all game, and now they punish you for it randomly and tell you to grind or savescum a dozen times to figure out which spots give you chips back. >Other than Bass, who are you talking about? Alpha? Flame Man and Bubble Man conditionally? I guess Serenade?
Beastman moves everywhere constantly
Bubbleman has bubbles that get in the way constantly and sometimes punish you for shooting them, as he sits forever in the back row
Desertman hides behind his hands and pillars and sits in the back row forever
Drillman constantly spams an attack where he's guarded the entire time and you have to be using piercing attacks or you just don't get to damage him
Kingman is constantly protected by his pieces >muh breakbuster
Yeah great, add that to the garbage that is 3's navicust, need to run specific programs to walk around and to do boss fights, thanks for giving me zero freedom in how to play. >It's literally half of that.
Its literally shit game design. It could be 50 battles and it'd still be atrocious. >Play BN4 before making such a ridiculous claim.
BN4 is a flat out better game than BN3. The worst thing you have to do in 4 is run around town to collect points before the first tournament.

The NaviCust was introduced in 3.
It's a good thing that it was used for out of battle purposes. They made it as relevant as possible.
Using Press is a small puzzle for the player that you aren't even forced to engage with the majority of the time.

>It's a good thing that it was used for out of battle purposes. They made it as relevant as possible.
No, its not a good thing. 3 makes me wish navicust was never invented. They fucked it up so god damn bad it isn't funny. Honestly the fact that 4 fixed navicust and used it properly makes me shocked it isn't worshipped as the second coming of christ for that reason alone. I cannot stress enough how fucking mad 3's navicust issues make me, ESPECIALLY when they throw that energy change shit at you.
>some sort of shield or some shit to be as tedious as possible to deal damage to.
you might just suck >Also the hospital is genuinely the worst scenario in the whole fucking series,
no thats flameman or freezeman

Freezeman is nowhere near as bad as Flameman or the hospital.
Either way, BN3 has not one but TWO of the worst scenarios in this series.

Flameman is requiring you to use energy change and grind aqua chips if you don't have enough, and you need to use press as well to travel.
Freezeman isn't that bad for like the first 2/3rds, it just goes on for too long and then gets retarded with "teehee the doctor is actually over there" Flameman on the other hand is cancer from the start because its the same cancer from the hospital, energy change is one of the worst things ever put in a game in this series.

did you just run away from all battles or something? I cant imagine you having so few chips that its an issue >and you need to use press as well to travel.
that I guess is valid

Have you never heard of the chip trader? The thing that they made so you could do something with all the chips you don't use?
Energy change actively punishes you for daring to use the chip trader even though every single game, BN3 included, encourages players to use it all the time to get rid of excess chips.
Now suddenly BN3 throws a curveball and punishes you for not having that abundance of excess chips. Now you have to throw away chips you only have a couple copies of.

It's happened to me on a ""speed run"". I didn't find the grinding to be an issue. My bigger problem was that it breaks immersion to go and grind during a crisis.
4 really isn't that bad. NG+ is optional, and the game is balanced around tier 1 chips just fine, its actually a heaven for having fun with PAs since that's the only way to make a really strong folder in the first playthrough.
Its flawed, sure, but it does give you a lot of action with much faster pacing than anything else in BN2-6, and it doesn't overstay its welcome, which is a huge plus, damn near every BN has a moment that feels like obligatory padding to stretch the game out 5 more hours.
>like obligatory padding to stretch the game out 5 more hours.
thats literally all of 4 since you have to play it like 3 times to actually beat it

You don't. What is with this meme people keep spouting?
you can play through the game just once and then put it down, you get the end credits and everything and then have the OPTION to replay the game and then everything is tier 2.
you might as well claim that you can't beat Dark Souls unless you go through NG+7.

And you're not intended to. So what? You can't get all battle chips unless you play both versions of every game and trade them. It doesn't mean that BN3-6 all have to be played twice minimum to be beaten.

Anonymous
But you don't have to replay it.
It the game had no end credits and just looped back to the beginning ala Ghosts N Gobins, then yeah you would have to play through it multiple times to beat it once, however this is not GNG, you don't get tricked by satan into playing through an illusion, you beat the final boss, the story ends, the credits rolls, and you then have the option to go into NG+ or to continue playing.
Press and Energychg in the navicust were clearly designed by someone who fucking hates the players, and random shit like "Find me an Iceball M" is more annoying than fun.
It's still well above 1, 2 and 4 without question.
1 isn't great, but it gets a pass for being a new idea. Play it for as long as you can stand it.
2 is an improvement in every way and is good, though often overhyped by those who started the series with it.
3 is great and can be phenomenal if you're able to get the navi chips from the other version. I'm led to believe people are very much willing to trade those chips to the other version online.
4 is trash but is worth playing through exactly once. The issue is that the game expects you to play it three times for all the regular content. Six times if you want every fight.
5 is feast or famine and it all hinges on your opinion of the new gameplay mechanic. Still worth playing all the way through, so if you really hate the liberation missions you can just cheat with the max buster.
6 is fantastic, especially now that we have all the content in English. Also has great PVP if you're into that.
Closest thing 5 has is that temple with the button masher segment which filters anyone with fingers that don't work right. Which is apparently a much higher number than I ever would have guessed.
I don't think 6 has a specific scenario, but rather the cycle towards the end of the game where you go to the Undernet, do one thing, leave, go back to the Undernet ten minutes later, do one thing, leave, and so on. 6 really needed a proper Undernet shortcut.
>which filters anyone with fingers that don't work right
Its not about my fingers not working right, its about having to hold a diagonal and already being bad at rhythm stuff like that.
I actually stopping progressing through the collection when I got to that point, didn't even bother trying, I already knew that since I had to cheat it on emulator by slowing the game down to 25% after failing for over an hour straight trying to to it legit, that my BN5 playthrough in the collection was ending there.
4 is trash but playing it on the Collection with the built-in e-reader cards can at least make it more bearable. Still bad but not as bad as it was on the GBA for most.
from 2 onward a lot of fun. Deck building is great and a unique battle system. the complex systems added 4 onward are fun too. the online is probably dead. but for an rpg, aside from being kiddy it's fun

Every BN has a formula like that basically.
I will say that liberations stop being fun after like the 4th one though and start becoming tedious instead.
i always thought 5 had more of a hero's welcome after all the shit 4 got, had no idea it was such a point of contention until MMBNLC revived the debate

Liberate shit, new teammate shows up, fix their shit, liberate shit. I wonder why no one ever brought this up about 5.
Because liberation missions are kino and playing as different navis is cool
Every BN has a formula like that basically.
I will say that liberations stop being fun after like the 4th one though and start becoming tedious instead.
>start becoming tedious instead.
cant agree, in fact I wish 6 had them as well
Because it was still better than 4's tournaments and endless padding.
The NT Warrior marathon with anons was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had in Ganker
i always thought 5 had more of a hero's welcome after all the shit 4 got, had no idea it was such a point of contention until MMBNLC revived the debate
Yeah I'm still mad
don't jack in to the cart if you want to live
They didnt add the QoL features for the first game from the DS port in the collection. The definitive way to play it is the fan translation.
thats the soulless way to play
Post your favorite chip and why
it's shocking lel how vile this thing is on an icestage. even unboosted
only downside is if you'e playing blue you can only get one plasma3 P
In BN4 it's awkward and comes late, but BN5 midgame and feels better than timebomb1. Won't accidentally blow up battle gmds.
