It could've had something like a limited editing processor like i7 990x which retailed for over 1000 dollars and didn't really improve gaming performance at all or it could've had high RPM drives which don't exist anymore since ssds are a thing now. Either way it was likely stuffed full of some shit that cost a lot but didn't do much at all.

Unless you had a specific reason, you may consider exchanging it for a 4090 from either
    >Asus ROG Strix / Matrix
The only AIB version that's really worth it for NV 4090, with upgraded PCB, VRM , cooling. Also well supported aftermarket
    >NV Founder's Edition
Cheaper and widely compatible with aftermarket cooling blocks if desired.

Zotac has worked fine for me. Always in the 40's temp wise despite being aircooled. Been exclusively EVGA up until then.

        Anonymous

Zotac was always expensive but apparently in EU it was more available. EVGA was great while they were around and were one of the better NV options during the 30 series (along with Asus ROG ) but sadly not present any longer.

Its not that the other vendor, Gigabyte, MSI, Zotac etc...that are AIB for NV cards are necessarily bad or wont work (though some have QA issues or performance) , just that they usually have the AIB price premium and its generally not worth it compared to others. For a 4090 (which is the only NV card I suggest getting at all; AMD's lineup is generally better and cheaper for gaming at all other price points etc), it seems best to either pay the AIB surplus for the Asus Strix (or the massive surplus for Matrix which is basically an AIO cooler built in and custom VRM. An option if you don't want to put a custom waterblock on it yourself etc) since it seems to be the most upgrades for what you're paying vs other AIBs, or save some cash and get a FE. This doesn't mean anyone with another brand should get rid of it, but if you're about to buy/just did I'd look elsewhere while you can return.

        >Aorus
Literally the same card except you're paying more for RGB and an LCD screen
        >ASUS strix
Expensive meme card with more coil whine than the cheapest cards
        >Founders edition
It's cheap only in MSRP, it's scalped widely outside of the rare releases

        >Aorus
Honestly I've not looked at gigabyte for awhile but if its the same as many other AIB manufacturers, its not the same card for lower tier options by far, - the PCB, firmware, VRMs etc are usually different between tiers to say nothing of the cooler itself.
        >Asus hurrdurr coil whine
If you get some strange coil whine then return or RMA it, I've never had problems with it on my 3090 or on the 4090s I've built for others. Its no more expensive than most other AIBs in its tier and some (like MSI's high end models and a few others) are even more so. It the one I've found to be the most reliable over several generation
        >FE
Obviously we're not talking scalper prices for anything, but they're reasonably consistently released unless it just stopped very recently. I bought one for a build a month or two back

The pictures are far from perfect, but there is something magical to stuff as simple as 1girl,standing. Just dressing her up however you like is fun. Like pantyhose? Add pantyhose. Like spats? Add spats. Reverse bunnysuit? Done. Cutouts/Pasties? No problem. Now choose some emotions, artists, a pose and whatever else YOU want.
The nice thing about the 4090 is that you can gen so many fricking pictures you don't care about minor mistakes. my workflow takes 9-15 seconds per picture, depending on if I enable automatic improvements via adetailer or not.

            Anonymous

Kek. That's true. I wanted the big fat VRAM pool before I knew how it all really worked. You really can get away with 8GB if you set it up properly and don't try to do massive batches of stupidly high resolution (most models don't even work properly above 512x512 lol) images. High steps aren't even fricking necessary once you know how to prompt.

                Anonymous

That's not true, 1.5 models work at 768x768, most people do 576x768 for example. XL models are trained on 1024x1024, as long as you keep the pixel count roughly the same you can do various aspect ratios, in fact a square is the telltale sign of newhomosexualry. A good workflow is gen a batch of 6-24 depending on your GPU at base resolution (30 steps max), save the best ones, then either img2img upscale or queue them in hires fix (4x_fatal_Anime_500000_G @ 12 steps) with Addetailer on. If you want to go the extra mile gen 2 images with slightly different step count or denoise and then photobash them in photoshop. Once you get efficient at this you can pretty much gen while multitasking something else. Unless you're just doing 1girl shit generating large upscaled batches is incredibly wasteful.

it's actually a decent card too, even for sloppan, but if I had realized at the time of purchase that SD was the only game worth running off these new cards I would have splurged on the 4090

            Anonymous

If people could actually debate AMD vs Nvidia here in good faith, then there would be a better understanding of how the cards function vs one another. And yeah. Having had it for close to 15 months now, I can say that going nvidia just would have been far easier, but nvidia's alternatives at the time were straight garbage. But now we have 4080 Super or, 4070TI Super. The VRAM pool would have been "good enough" for SD, but you want 24GB and up for the real AI stuff. 4090 still has that stupid connection fire issue. I wish nvidia would release a 4080-tier card with a fat VRAM pool next gen just for sloppa work, but they're not doing that shit. That would be too nice of them.

You can do the alot of the same shit with AMD, just with extra legwork but get last gen nvidia's performance. Tradeoff is half a gen ahead of nvidia in raster, which ends up being bullshit because AMD's too lazy to release a CUDA equivalent to take advantage of that. ONNX lets the 7900XT/XTX smash through SD in Automatic1111, but guess what? That's old news now. Automatic1111 native in Windows? What is this, 2021? Voice AI? Video? 3D? Fugheddaboutit. By the time AMD catches up to that, nvidia will be on something new.

              Anonymous

              >CUDA equivalent
They're working on it, and from what I can tell it's improving fast. But they literally didn't give a shit about ROCm until a year ago, when the AI boom started.
Or rather, people forget that not that long ago AMD was fricking dead. They were lucky with Ryzen, they went all-in on CPUs, they paid off their debts, they started expanding into other markets and... AI happened. They were working on their CUDA competitor, but AI happened "too soon" and they weren't ready.

The real moron here is Intel. What's their excuse.

and? you can play current games at higher framerates and resolutions for less money so the current situation is objectively better than 15 years ago. if morons want to spend 5 times that for double the performance that might not even matter to you, who cares?

Current card is faster than 15-year old card, good job people.
              The GTX 280 launched for $650 in 2008. A year later, the 20% faster HD 5850 launched for $250. Where's my "20% faster than previous-gen flagship for $250" ($350 in today's money).

280 was a huge miss by nvidia that entire series was meh and coming from years of just selling 8800gt or gtx or gts in various rebranding uplifts.
While AMD hit the spot with 4xxx and 5xxx series. I had the 4850 512MB in one computer and the 5670 1GB in another. Played Skyrim on a 24 inch 1080p screen back on release.

My 7900XT makes sloppa pretty fast, but only after I do all the esoteric bullshit workarounds, and offer a sacrifice of three firstborns to the AI Moloch.
      nvidia just werks

I'm sitting here on the fence about building a new box but unsure if I want to dump on a 3080 or an ATI equivalent but I heard you "can't" make sloppa on ATI cards. Is it really that bad? Slower isn't a big deal unless its like a difference of an hour.
If this was going to be a windows PC i'd just go with nvidia again, but wanting to make this a dedicated ubuntu box so the driver situation is concerning.

You can do Stable Diffusion in Windows with AMD but only with the 7900xt/xtx is it worth it or fast. It’s only with Automatic1111 and you need models that can be converted using ONNX. My 7900xt is faster than my friend’s 4080 but he’s got access to so much more. A 3080 is a waste of time for anything but stable diffusion. You need vram for everything else

afaik Sd.next has native AMD support. no onxx, no rocm, no zluda. I would never recommend an AMD card again but I hear it's getting better as far as generating images.

The top end cards are very fast at SD. It’s just the lack of support for other AI that sucks.

I just googled this shit and the github says it supports Rocm, DirectML, ONNX and ZLUDA. Why do so many sd gays on this site know so fricking little about it?
It’s like how all the Stable Diffusion threads on this site have two year old installation instructions and still think AMD doesn’t work.

download twelve different support systems all requiring exact versions, download A1111, spend the next 12 days troubleshooting error messages that are all completely unique per user, run a1111 at half speed for a day, start SD the next day, figure out what update/broke overnight, spend the next 12 days troubleshooting error messages that are all completely unique per user, repeat.

If you're like me, you'll find that having a strong GPU doesn't miraculously make you want to play modern games. I had to buy an RTX3090 for work purposes about 4 months ago and I even bought some modern games like Metro Enhanced Edition, Crysys Remastered, etc., to enjoy the complex graphics, but after playing each of these for 3 hours I realized that they are terrible and went back to the normal schedule of playing things that would run on a $120 laptop.

I got a 3090ti, and it’s still holding its own really well. The only thing it hasn’t been able to maintain a consistent 60fps on has been some exterior areas in Elden Ring, in 4K with all the graphical options cranked to max, and raytracing turned on. It’s still very much playable though.
