Just buy a $1000 GPU bro

>XX70 class GPUs are now $900
I really think PC gaming is in trouble. Valve built a low power/price point, Linux, hand held console. That's an odd move for them and it had to be pure hell to R&D. Its almost like they see a day coming where people don't have beefy gaming PCs. Of course that's an existential crisis for Valve. So what do they do? Build their own sustainable hardware platform.
Then you've got someone like me who swore off consoles 20 years ago but it looks like I'm getting a couple of them when my GPU dies. These prices are untenable. PC gaming will be for top streamers and no one else. The 4050 will be $750. This isn't gonna work.

Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round and listen close - we've got a real-life crisis on our hands. I'm talking, of course, about the prices of GPUs.

It's gotten so bad that I'm pretty sure the only way to afford one is to sell your firstborn child or enter into a blood pact with the devil. And even then, it's not a guarantee.

I mean, have you seen the prices of these things? It's like they're made of solid gold and unicorn tears. And the ridiculous part is, you can't even use them for world peace or curing cancer - no, you're just using them to play video games and make memes.

And don't even get me started on the ridiculous names they give these things. "RTX 3090?" More like "RTX 3090 dollars out of your bank account." And don't even think about trying to find a deal - the second someone drops the price, it's like a swarm of locusts descends and snaps it up.

But don't worry, folks. I've got a solution. Just close your eyes and pretend you're playing on a potato. Trust me, no one will know the difference.

In all seriousness, the price of GPUs is subject to market forces, the prices of computer components tends to fluctuate over time, sometimes due to supply and demand, sometimes due to new models being released. It's always good to keep an eye on prices and wait for the best deal if you're planning to buy.

And people will start looking into last generation / second hand. Sales for GPU's have been down for both NVIDIA and AMD. The market will find a way.

Valve should build and sell Steam Prebuilt desktops. That would kill nzxt/cyberpower/skytech/ibuypower and so on

And back when SteamOS sucked. If they tried it again they'd do better.

They licensed out the Steam logo and a bunch of mainstream PC companies made under-powered PCs compared to the price to build your own, without Windows installed. It was stupid and didn't even come with a TF2 hat.
The Steam Deck is different as it fulfills a niche market (PC Handheld Gaming) that is officially owned and supported by Valve in addition to a low price point balanced around the consumer buying lots of games on Steam, and honestly killed my desire to have a strong PC ($400 deck for PC games and $100 chromebook for work as opposed to a $4000+ dream PC gaming machine).

I would jizz my shorts if this happened. I fricking hate windows and driver bullshit and the increasing amount of bad ports and optimizations. I don't care that much about customization, I'd rather have less customization if it meant more optimization and efficiency even if it means less power on the higher end. I could see Steam making "PC consoles" that run on a custom linux OS and they have like 3 or 4 models starting from like $350, $500, $800, etc.

And where are they getting the GPU's for them from? I don't see Nvidia and AMD being willing to supply a direct competitor to their marketshare.

1080p is still there for the poor PC gamers. You don't need a 4090 to play games on that resolution. In fact you can get by with a really cheap card.

Can I play Hitman III right off the bat? My PC has a R3 1200AF and RX 580, takes a lot of electricity. Should I sell the PC for a Deck?? As long it plays Hitman 3, Elden Ring, Sekiro and DS3 I'll be happy

Why can't we have a mini PC with the exact same specs as the Deck but for living rooms? PSTV did for Vita, PSP and PS1 in one box

Honestly sounds like a fun project. I guess once I get past the realization Steam Deck exists because building a pc with that power would be counter-intuitive...shit, what could 450 dollars do? I guess you could buy a real GPU? What a shitty era though, the steam deck shouldnt be this good a deal, it only is because of the insane hardware hikes. I could brainstorm a steam deck PC in 2014-2018, now its actually hard without giving up and going APU.

If you're sitting at a normal distance to a 24 inch monitor then 1080p is fine. And the price of a new card that BTFOs all games at 1080p is like $200. PC gaming is only in trouble if you believe the marketing and decide you NEED 1440p or, if you are especially moronic, 2160p. Then you'll be thinking, shit, this is too expensive. And it is too expensive. But luckily you don't need those resolutions. There are massive diminishing returns in upgrading to those resolutions where you're basically paying double for a slight increase in visual quality. Just ignore the marketing, ignore these products, and you can carry on as normal.

You absolutely DO need 1440p if your monitor isn't a tiny 24 incher.

24 inch is quite big if you're sitting at a normal desk. This is what I mean. Most people are not sitting at some massive fricking battlestation. They're sitting at a small table with space for a 24 inch monitor or two. They do not need to go above 1080p. But because of all the marketing you're going to get spastics upgrading to fricking huge 32 inch monitors to make use of 4k and barely being able to fit it on their table, or people upgrading to 4k but with a monitor size too small to see the effect, and so on.

          >or two
Dual monitor setups are the biggest fricking meme to ever exist. The space those take up could easily accommodate a 27 inch at least. 24" is fricking destitute tier.

hmm i like the deck a lot but NOT every game is better played on a handheld
it's a great side device if you already have a pc but not the all in one dream device i thought it could have been
if you have neither, you should seriously prioritize getting a good desktop pc first
