just got filtered by this. the story seemed cool and it has a bunch of interesting original mechanics (blending in with crowd, pushing people aside) but it was just boring and clunky, im too used to modern games to play this.
i wanted to get into the saga mostly for the ezio games. should i watch it on youtube then play the second?
for the record i enjoyed prince of persia games and they're older than this, so it's not actually my fault.

i arrived at the second town. i think damascus. the game just feels dumb, like to get there you have to go through these little settlements with your horse, full of guards, which you can just ignore by sprinting full speed with the horse. or have to fight if you want to get the eagle thing to unlock the map.

I dont think you need towers outside of cities for anything else than 100%-ing
later you can just fast travel to the city
its clunky for completely different reasons for me
but go and finish it you will enjoy assasins creed 2 more

It's not even worth getting invested into, the story shits the bed pretty quickly and the gameplay is just auto parkour and spam counter kill for the whole series

Assassin's Creed peaked with AC1, so if you're not into it things are fricked. Ezio's games went full normie in trying to be straightforward action games with more setpieces, cutscenes, quippy dialogue and taking the emphasis off of assassinations. AC1 is a linear game set in an open world that's ""empty"" on purpose in the same vein the open worlds in L.A. Noire or Mafia 1/2 wee 'empty'. They were playgrounds, literal sandboxes to parkour around in not collect chests or shanties or weapons and armor like in future ACs while playing yet another personal revenge story that's more concerned with trying to have your protagonist Forrest Gump-ing his way through the historical setting than actually being about Templars and Assassins. It's a game where you're supposed to get immersed in tailing your target, learning about them via the side investigations, striking like a blade in the crowd then running away with the church bells blasting in the background slowly but surely learning more about Desmond's dystopic present and what Abstergo are up to in the beautiful dichotomy where Altaïr in the past feels free while trapped mentally while Desmond in the real world is a prisoner of war that's already been liberated from the shackles of his childhood. I don't know anon I adore this game, and to this day it stands alone given AC2 forward essentially just changed the genre and what it tried to accomplish, to much normie fanfare.

        >he doesn't know
A-anon... stealth changed on a basic mechanical level as soon as AC2. In AC1, social stealth was something that was active *at all times* no matter what, it was a passive system where people around you always kept you in mind and the more targets you killed the more on guard future enemies were and the less they needed to recognize you. The HUD would always 'open up' and flash red to represent you're being actively watched. It's why all actions in the gameplay were separated between those that were and were not socially acceptable, regardless of whether there were monks nearby. As soon as AC2 they changed it so social stealth is only ever active when you're blending in a group of civilians and Ezio turns grey, other than that if you're in the middle of the street there's nothing checking your blending, and that's what the franchise took going forward up to a point where it didn't even matter if you were sprinting with your weapon in your hand, guards didn't give a frick and acted solely like GTA cops.

That was just moved to the notoriety system you bellend. Yeah it was shallow and needed room to grow, but it served the same purpose.

When did you ever play AC2 at full Notoriety? The game spawns posters every two streets, it's quite literally impossible to have Full Notoriety unless you play as DSP and even then it's not the same, as what Notoriety does is have guards' SSI fill up just by looking at you even if you're standing completely still doing nothing.

SSI doesn't even start turning red until the 2-3 targets, it's almost a non-factor for most of the game outside of targets. Same way with AC2, where notoriety is basically a non-factor outside of specific missions that either completely fill it for the duration of the mission or takes place in a restricted zone.
Like I said, it had a ton of room to grow was the natural evolution of SSI.

NTA but I have a fond and distinct memory of doing an assassination on some high up monk or doctor in a very crowded room. I was able to use prayer hands and walk up to him, give him a stealth animation shank in the belly and prayer hands out before anyone noticed. I also got a little lucky because he got a really long death animation of him shufling around before keeling over.

It was really cool. It felt like actual social stealth even though I didn't have the 4 monks surrounding me.

iirc you can't attack with the hidden blade but it's a one-hit kill if you counter. I remember it being handy at that one point where Altair interrupts the Crusades or whatever the frick it was.

AC1 is very repetitive. Even when it's trying to keep things fresh, it only does so much.
I beat it last week going for 100% (barring the flags, because frick collecting all of them) and I do not reccomend doing it unless you like seeing the pretty bars fill up.
Just push through it and enjoy the narrative (which is still great btw). AC2 isn't a perfect sequel, but it comes very close.

AC1 is the one that I have real trouble going back to now. Just for the gameplay. I like the story and how it ties into 2, but the repetitiveness of the the missions really does get tiring.
