Kingdom Come Switch

Anyone else playing the Switch edition of Kingdom Come Deliverance? I've got a good 30 hours on this so far, and it's great. Loads faster than Xbone/PS4, and is only 14GB so everything is on the Cart.

It's worth tempering expectations, but visual quality is a big jump in quality compared to other switch 3rd party ports.

All the graphical effects are still there, Screenspace reflections, specular highlights on metal, surprisingly quality shadows etc..

The only part that is compromised to get this to run is to shorten draw distance on non-important details like grass and bushes, and some aggressive LOD changing for npcs and textures.

I can't wait to take this on my next flight.

40 hours in. Time of my life.
But it does crash a tidbit too often.

I've had a handful of crashes so I try to be mindful to not stray too long without saving.

The worst time it crashed, I had just laid down to save, it crashed right before the "game saved!" Message appeared, so it didn't count.

I was mad, but I'm still having fun so I can put up with it. Reminds me of playing Oblivion on Xbox 360 and encountering the random crashes from how buggy that game was

Porting this game to Tendo Switch is a massive mistake, Warhorse are actually moronic, tendies dont care about these type of games and the only thing you will gain is more haters and shit eaters saying dumb shit to ruin the sequel.

doubt Vavra even oversees the first KCD anymore, they're deep in the KCD2 crunch

They had Deep Silver create the port (who ported Witcher 3 and Crysis to the switch previously), so it didn't eat up any of Warhorse Studio's time.

How these games look on switch? Im surprised they can port them on switch, its not like they would sell as good as Witcher or Doom ports

I'm finding a surprising lack up uploads on the internet for screenshots, but here's one of them to get an idea of the general quality level.

FYI, the digital foundry video made about the KCD switch port is inaccurate. there was a day one patch that boosted performance and maintains resolution and frames better.

And speaking of the Digital foundry video for their shoddy quality on the topic of this game, they complain about the "sharpening effect" making it sound like it was something added to this version of the game as like a constant feature, but they clearly just loaded a save after using a saviour schnapp which gives a drunk status, causing the sharp filter.

Im playing this on pc right know. How does the combat translate on switch? Does it feel janky too? Really need to grind the training to git good at the combat I guess.

Same combat, still just as frustrating as if every bandit and vagrant is a skilled swordsman.

Robard's training helps, and I hear that once you start using master strikes it gets easier.

Yeah, i just clear bandits with arrows (you can level up archery fast playing that log shooting mini game) and then those that get too close I can stunspam by getting close into submission. I guess i need to train with the sword moar

It's some kind of technical frickery, but it works.

This game is running on 10 year old tablet hardware now, when it could barely run on the Xbone at release.

This is the kind of game that needed all the assets redone for the Switch version, rather like Dragon Quest XI, but even more aggressive. Maybe even change the art style slightly to something more stylized rather than realistic.

      Anonymous

I always dreamed of developers making an alternate low-end version of a realistic looking game, but the cost of developing two different style of assets for all characters and items far outweighs the cost unfortunately.

It looks a lot better in motion, since these screenshots have some artifacting and compression. Foliage is still at a "realistic" level of detail which fricks with YouTube compression.

The most mind blowing thing is seeing this run on a switch lite. Pixel density does the game a favor on the small screen

I'm curious why they added SVOGI to it instead of working on stability or image quality. Even the PS4/X1 don't have it. I'd like to support a port of this ambition, but I'm not particularly interested in the game itself.

Yeah it is strange. Personally I would have preferred it off, as I think the interiors look better with it disabled, but I guess they were trying to cram as many features they could get away with and still have it run.

Saber did KCD, Witcher 3 and Crysis on Switch, not Deep Silver.

Ah you're right my bad. I was thinking about the Deep Silver logo you see on bootup, but yes it is Saber interactive that puts the work into porting.

I'm trying to look it up, but I can't remember if Saber helped on Dying Light for Switch or not, but that's also another very impressive port. It was received very well when it launched. I think DF did a video on it too. I thought DL2 Cloud had been canceled because they decided to try a native port, but I guess it was too much.

I kinda want it just for the effort they put into it. Sadly I bought Battlefront Classic instead. Also this is on Cryengine right? Sucks cus every game using unreal on Switch just runs like shit or looks like shit.

      Anonymous

it's running on Cryengine, which looks beautiful. Wish more game devs would branch out from UE, otherwise everything just ends up looking the same.

On a side note, the best looking UE game I can think of on the switch is Dragon Quest XI S. Really helped when they made lower quality switch assets that still follow the art style.

      >using unreal on Switch just runs like shit or looks like shit
I knew Suda using UE4 was inevitable for NMH3, but yeah, that was kind of a disaster. A lot of that was the artstyle, however. TSA proved a smaller scale game could still run ok even if the some of the detail was lost. I don't want possessed Grasshopper into making the huge maps with frick all to do.

        Anonymous

They just needed a different engine. But a lot od devs are lazy as frick now. Even Pikmin 4 was on unreal and you can see the texture pop in and longer load times compared to previous games.

          Anonymous

Like I could see what Suda was going for in some of the design decisions, but there's a lot wrong with that game. UE4 is one thing in a laundry list. Still disappointed.

Seeing a game as technically demanding and massive working on the switch makes me mad we didn't get native switch ports of relatively well optimized games, like RE7 or Re2 remake.

Companies that cheap out with Cloud versions are cowards.

I chalked that up to Capcom wanting to do a bespoke Switch Revelations 3 like how they did MH Rise. DS and 3DS got RE games. But then it never materialized. Huge missed opportunity for Capcom to not have mainline games on Switch either, but they'll almost certainly come to Switch 2 and be solid.

There are also other amazing ports on the Nintendo Switch such as Nier Automata and Earth Defense Force 4.1 (the latter which is Japan-exclusive sadly). The console itself has proven it can do marvels as long as the devs actually care to pour efforts too.

Graphics have long ago hit a point of "holy shit I don't care" for me once real-time ray tracing became the big meme thing (whereas PhysX was actually impressive on the other hand). I'd even say everything after the PS3/360 may have certainly looked nice at times but ultimately didn't add greater levels of expression to the medium. Switch is a convenient hybrid platform and for someone who is primarily into Japanese games and indies, I'm not going to really notice a difference elsewhere.

If you had a Steam Deck you could play this game with much higher detail on that same flight.

Deck's battery depletes itself far more easily though and will eat away the external battery like nothing too.
It's also a lot bigger in terms of size (including the carrying case offered by default).

I get near 5 hours in airplane mode on a switch oled playing this game. You'd have to really reduce settings to the point it's going to look about the same for less battery.

I have a steam deck, but I'd rather take the more disposable and easily replaceable console if I had to pick between which two will get tossed in my bag.
