And that's my yearly BBS Playthrough all wrapped up. Boy, I sure do love this game. Can't wait to do it again next year.
BBS is not good. The only game I hate more than BBS is DDD which exacerbates all its flaws even worse.
These are my thoughts as well, never liked the command deck system but I at least liked some of BBS's characters. DDD felt like everything wrong with KH in one game.
The only game I've liked the command deck in is Re:Coded. A lot of its commands are just reskins with an element but they have lightning quick startup times compared to BBS and DDD, and you can actually mix them into combos, especially since enemies can actually be stunned by normal attacks. Your whole deck doesn't go on cooldown if you look at it funny, you can try commands before melding them for good, and you can actually use lots of different commands properly even on Critical or 1HP (the crazy 'EVERYONE has 1HP' mode) instead of Thunder Surge and Balloon commands being the only way to reliably get damage out. And then 3D rolled ALL OF IT BACK TO AN EVEN WORSE STATE.
They should have just had h.a.n.d. make DDD, or at least make the command deck parts of it. They made the command deck system actually good in that game and then never did it like that again.
I just don't understand how DDD has so many frickups. Basic shit like restarting a boss fight puts all your commands on cooldown. Or dropping into the other character, who could be in the middle of a mob fight or restarting their own boss. Better hope you don't get hit twice in the 30 seconds until Cure is ready, homosexual!

That game has so much bullshit and poor design decisions that I couldn’t even be bothered finishing it. I didn’t want to suffer through that garbage just to play KH3. Maybe I’ll actually finish it in the future but I doubt it.

Don't blame you, the tamagotchi is soul draining and the progression sucked even more so than in Bbs. Not to mention the whole thing feels duller, there aren't even that many interesting commands like in bbs.
Besides the super boss (literally only julius) sucked. Granted, No heart, Mystery man, Vanitas and the Jailer all sucked too but at the very least you could somewhat enjoy the jank and spectacle in those fights. Julius is just boring.
Mysterious Figure is at least entertainingly awful and has a good theme

mostly because he gets an actual 360 degree block (through Barrier) so he can do something about all the late game enemies with projectiles that are specifically set up to circle around and hit you in the back when you block towards them because frick you twice, i guess
Its crazy how they went from a game with some of the best bosses in the entire medium to a game with some of the worst bosses in the entire medium so quickly.
It was a different dev team.
At least they eventually figured out how to make good boss fights, as shown in KH3 DLC.

I first played BBS a month or two ago and got so fed up with Terranort that I just bought Thunder Surge 6 times and exclusively used it and Curaga to beat him. Frick that boss, I’m so glad they made it actually fun in Re:Mind (I don’t like the guardian though that shit sucks).
