Not really. They just got the rights to use the name for that little bit of brand recognition and made a HoMM-like with reduced strategic scope. Any youngfags who are itching to reply with "but it's not like HoMM, it's like KB!" should first go and actually play KB, a game I replay at least once a year since it was released.

The ingame graphics are beautiful, it's only the artwork you see on the cover and in menus.
It does make the games look like shovelware at first glance though.
I love King's Bounty games but KB2 looks shite.

Absolutely start with Legend. The latter games sacrifice the charm for minor gameplay improvements.
Every expansion adds stuff and QoL, so better start with Legend.
