That's not fun either. What's fun is trying to avoid detection completely and then getting caught, try to escape/fight back, and survive. Quicksave should be a last resort type of thing.

There is way more to a game than just AI. To this day Thief is still the most advanced stealth game in terms of mechanics and level design
              >footsteps produce different noise levels depending on what surface you are on
              >meter to indicate how visible you are depending on the amount of light/shadow
              >multilayered level design that is highly vertical and allows many paths to the same goal as well as optional areas
              >no markers, common sense and intuition is needed to complete level goals
              >incredible sound design to allow you to feel out how far away others are as well as adding to atmosphere
              Modern stealth games
              >almost binary detection systems with zero nuance on how well the player is hidden
              >sound is almost a nonfactor, only running elicits noise
              >terrible level design is that either too linear or lacks any coherence beyond "big"
              >quest markers that neuter any thought process behind level progression and prevent critical thinking
              >forced action sections or overpowered tools that hinder the point of doing stealth

                Anonymous

                >overpowered tools that hinder the point of doing stealth
Gee kind of like the Blackjack and the Moss Arrows

Also its not just the AI thats shit about the guards in Thief, its the fact they generally have no way to punish the player for getting caught which is probably the most fundamantal thing to get right in a stealth game. I've gotten caught in a Thief level and then spend the next 5 min in a scooby doo chase where the guards litearlly cannot do anything about it. Eventually they just go back to normal status even when there are still alarms blaring. Its only "immersive" if you go out of your way to ghost the game and ignore how easy it is to break the game in half. The fact guards cant wake up knocked out guards is asinine and is immersion shattering. You can litearlly pile knocked out bodies on top of eachother and guards will just walk by not giving a shit.

Unless you are an autistic speedrunner, the punishment is you running away and not being able to progress safely. Some missions also will fail you if you knock out anyone. The undead npcs also can't be knocked out.

The AI is dull, but there is no other game that sells the infiltration fantasy better and the music/mixing is unmatched by any game prior and hence. It also goes a step further by having one of the best coop modes ever made and a really fun pvp mode.

I also want to add that Grim, Lambert, and Fisher all have excellent banter that makes them instantly likeable and I can’t think of another game that does that.
