La Pucelle: Ragnarok

It comes out August 30th on Steam. How good is it compared to Nippon Ichi's other PS2 games like Soul Nomad, Phantom Brave, and the two Disgaea games?

It's pretty mediocre as with most early NIS games, but Ryoji is a god and Priere absolutely fricking vandalizes my dick

It didn't take off like Disgaea so probably not as advanced

Still picking it up so I can finally stop being a secondary fapping to Priere play her game

From what I remember, it seemed like the biggest complaint for NIS's PC ports were that they were "lazy," in that they're just basic 1:1 ports more or less. Is that about true? I'm fine with that as long as nothing is broken or visuals are horrifically filtered.

      >Still picking it up so I can finally stop being a secondary fapping to Priere play her game
Based. I Priere might be the second anime girl I jacked off to doujins of, after Kagome.

Oh, that game where the canon ending is the one where MC gets abandoned by her friends and becomes a demon. It's ok.

It's pretty clunky and has maybe the worst gameplay of golden era Nippon Ichi games, mediocre is good word for it as another anon said.
Good experiment for what other PS2 Nippon Ichi games would become, you can tell the team learned plenty from making the game. Gameplay aside it is worth experiencing, a very charming game.

Makai Kingdom > Soul Nomad > ZHP > Disgaea 1 = La Pucelle > Phantom Brave
I played through the rest of the Disgaeas save 6, when I finally acknowledged the series past 1 is not for me. I also didn't much care for Guided Fate Paradox or Witch and the Hundred Knight. Labyrinth of Refrain was pretty not bad.

Really? Labyrinth of Refrain did it for you? I struggled with that one. Plot wise it was just a repeat of witch and the hundred knight and gameplay had an incredibly boring game play loop.

Out of curiosity, why Phantom Brave at the bottom?

    Is it still censored?

La Pucelle is a weaker entry. It's basic mechanics are sound, but it's very obviously unrefined. A lot feels clunky, not all the systems really coexist well, and balance is a bit iffy. It's mostly just a mediocre SRPG, with the meat that would become NIS' bread and butter buried there, in an undercooked state. It honestly can be rough to get through if you got into NIS with like, Disgaea 4 or something, and have the benefit of almost two decades of refining and streamlining from here. If you started with an earlier Disgaea, you should be fine, as well as if you have an appreciation for gameplay time capsules
The story is pretty good, but hinges heavily on how much you like Priere. It's cozy, and has that sort of universal early PS2/late N64 era nostalgia vibe. I think Priere herself is hands down one of the best protagonists of all time, and I think she does carry the story squarely on her back, but, I obviously like Priere, so biased.
Good soundtrack, decent spritework for the era, and MOST of NIS' remaster visuals have been fair enough to look at on most resolution TVs. Even Makai Kingdom's chibis looked okay blown up on my TV.
I have no idea what Ragnarok added over base La Pucelle Tactics, so those gripes may have already been answered.

As far as I understand, no. Croix is using cross guns and smoking in the trailer, so I assume the rest is fixed. I don't think they are redubbing the base content, though, so any censorship in the dub probably survives.
I don't know for sure, but I ASSUME the Ragnarok content will mostly be dubbed. The added story content of Makai Kingdom was dubbed, so I don't see why that would change for La Pucelle, but, I don't actually know.

In case it matters, I know Rhapsody, packaged with it for the Prinny Presents package, is using the PS1 game's gameplay, some of the DS version's enhancements, and has at least the dub songs, possibly both. It's a bit of a frankengame made of its best versions best parts. I hope.

What got me originally into La Pucelle is actually Alouette and Croix, the teenage me thought they were the coolest thing ever, during the time I was still obsessed with stuff like gungrave and chrono crusade.

I mean, the entire supporting cast is pretty cool.
Homard is probably the character that has aged the best, because his story has become the birth of Psycho Burgundy.
Also, the concept art of Father Salad that shows beneath the robes, the man looks like fricking Kratos.

If memory serves, I THINK Eclair was a reference to something. I don't think I ever learned what, though, I only heard she was.

            >Eclair
She's essentially a guest character from Princess Crown, somewhat obscure cult classic on Sega Saturn.

            >Also, the concept art of Father Salad that shows beneath the robes, the man looks like fricking Kratos.
Just like my mexican soap operas, honestly badass priests never get old for me.

I'll definitely have to check that out, then. Eclair's kinda fun.

Friendly reminder that Prier is the closest thing to an objective bestgirl that exists.
Your waifu may be good, but Prier is better. Compared to Prier, all other waifus are shit. The discussion of waifus as a topic, merely acts as tribute to Prier, the winner of the waifu wars.
Whether you want a waifu for sex and love, an onee-san to walk you to the bathroom at night and hold you when you're scared, a platonic galpal to giggle madly over stupid shit with, a yuri crush to admire her confidence and handsomeness, a troony self insert to envy her free spirit and loose grasp of femininity except where it counts, a tomboy to be your bro and wingman, or all of the above and more, Prier can't be beat.

    That is all.
