We like games, not hardware. Tell the Nvidia israelite I said hi when you drop over a grand on your yearly card upgrade so that you can play Team Fortress 2.

the blacks are better on oled
the thing thats lacking is the non-etched screen glass, which becomes more apparent when you purposefully angle it to show in the photo
>And they're better still on Plasma.
no, they're not
black literally shuts off the pixels on OLED due to their being self emissive light sources, you don't get more black than off
>the thing thats lacking is the non-etched screen glass
This will never happen, because the OLED meme relies on glossy panels, hence why you will never find a matte OLED display anywhere, the best you'll find is """semi""" gloss, which is 95% of the glossiness of a regular gloss panel.
>hence why you will never find a matte OLED
Why the fuck are you in a thread for something you know nothing about, and making statements on those things you know nothing about?
Etching a matte feature, and OLED can't use matte, they must be glossy panels only. It's the drawback of "true blacks", anything darker than around 30% luminosity of the LED is so weak in brightness than the attenuation loss caused by a matte coating will make everything that dark look completely black.
This is why I will never move on to OLED displays, gloss is fucking cancer and the only 2 matte OLEDs to ever be shown to the market never actually reached public sale.
What an incredibly stupid and misleading picture lmao
Oled screens should be glossy. Otherwise in certain lightning condition the coating will kill the blacks. In the dark that oled will of course look black, but they should have done a glossy coating on it.
>Oled screens should be glossy. Otherwise in certain lightning condition the coating will kill the blacks. In the dark that oled will of course look black, but they should have done a glossy coating on it.
This.
The oled monitors are fucking garbage because they all use a mat finish.
The lg oled monitor has been the first monitor I have ever returned.
Own 3 oled tvs, and to me the monitor was a huge fucking downgrade.
The only way that it makes sense to me to coat the monitors has to be because manufacturers keep pretending people will ever use OLED for "work" as if everyone buying that kind of display wasn't already used to using more than 1 monitor, you can even get a unused TV for cheaper and 27 inches for 4K is a meme anyway
Anon do it at a normal site and invite Ganker through it instead. You get protections and tracking you wish you had if you just did it some sideways way.
Speaking of, if any Germanons still don't have an SD, I'm selling mine for 380 Euros upgraded with 512GB of Samsung storage, hall effect sticks and the quiet fan.
>used
Very well cared for if anything. I've kept the battery between 20% and 80% for most of my use, always had it in a case, never 'icked it, etc. >buying used from a yuro
I'm not shipping this outside of Germany, so duh.
>kraut
Disgusting, don't ever imply that I'm part of this filthy race, I'm actually white. The only reason I'm still here is cause I shacked up with a krautling girl.
That depends. The oled model has a 90hz screen, better battery life and better thermals. If any of that matters to you then get the oled. Otherwise, stick to lcd
I still think the interesting possibility for a 90hz screen is if Gamescope gets global FSR3 support and can double 35-45fps.
It seems likely that Valve will try something like that because if it works it makes a fully standalone SteamOS VR headset likely sooner rather than later.
>Nothing will take advantage of it though
Frametime latency when missing a frame will only be half as long when running at 40fps 80hz compared to 40fps 40hz
The LCD screen may have some background bleeding, but you would barely notice it, if you don‘t play in a pitch black room.
Therefor the colors are more accurate, the OLED looks WAY too over saturated.
>help I'm poor! >i'm piss scared of duh man becoming op >so I handed all my taxes over to capitalism instead >now I'm forever poor! help!
lol dumbass americans
Ah, I was wondering how easy it was to replace the storage. I don't see myself buying one even for $350 since I don't really have a use for it but if they ever get REALLY cheap like $200, eh maybe.
Obviously 256GB for the exlclusive steam profile bundle. If you were planning to upgrade the SSD yourself in case you wanted more then 256GB, you might as well get the 64GB.
I put a screen protector on the matte 512gb lcd and it corrected it. I just wanted the case and extra gb even though I ended up putting 2tb in anyways.
>OH SO NOW YOU LIKE OLED????
(still don't really like oled, but the 90hz, smaller bezels and a thinner panel that gives me a bigger battery and quieter fan is nice)
Spent some of their billions upon billions upon billions of dollars towards improving the OS they intend to make the standard?
It's not that wild a prospect honestly.
Literally hired hundreds of linux developers to improve proton and SteamOS.
yeah but like are they shipping it with a custom kernel or what
you still need to patch it yourself if you want HDR to work with gamescope and even then it's not the best experience
I don't know anon, are the devs of a quite advanced fork of arch shipping their product with a custom kernel?
It's almost like they discussed it in depth in the blogpost for the 3.5 beta, and the OLED was/is being shipped with 3.5 full.
This is why steam monopoly is good, they're private company who can actually spend their profits on cool shit rather than giving it to investors who only care about numbers going up so they get more money.
If you think there aren't private investors taking stock of steam you are silly. The fact steam china exists should speak volumes about how valve is happy to take money from investors and other private sources.
I like valve but they're still a for-profit company and will suck chink chode for money. And they do.
You're in a thread about a new deck that's OLED and supports HDR. Emulating switch games with better performance than the switch is already possible. Cry about it.
Valve needs to make it a rule where every game over 50GB needs to make high quality textures an optional DLC. File size being the same whether you play on a tiny 720p screen or a 4k screen is insanely dumb.
>make high quality textures an optional DLC
Holy shit I've been saying exactly this.
Being forced to download 150gbs of super high res textures that are only used once in the whole game is fucking annoying.
They only do this because it's an anti-piracy tactic. If you download a 150gb rar, spend 20 minutes uncompressing it, run the custom exe to decompress the custom bin for another 20 minutes, just to run the installer that takes another 20 minutes, and it ends up not even installing or running, then you have to download a different 150gb rar and the average person would rather just pay for the fucking game at that point.
They only do it cause "muh lost munies!" It's bullshit. Fuck AAA gaming. Screenshot this. Either the public will go full blown aids corporate bootlicker, or they'll fucking jam that shit back into AAA game companies. This structure can't last forever.
>They only do this because it's an anti-piracy tactic. haha jokes on them, im an autist who downloads 100gb+ repacks that my potato laptop isn't capable of playing, then i unpack and install them, then uninstall them
my ISP has no data limit, so fuck em, that's what they get for being israeli
The OLED looked too saturated in most of those comparisons, IMO. I'm guessing it was cranked up on both to show the difference but I actually preferred the bottom in most of them.
I listen to his podcast, he's running the beta OS with the built in color calibration and has it at stock color srgb settings. I am as well, and by my estimation it's like 120 saturation on vibrant deck.
Until someone makes a webm showcasing the differences in motion/animation then I won't believe a static image. That one Nintendo Switch webm does a good job showing the clear difference between the regular screen and the OLED screen.
>people like the phawx were saying HDR wouldn't even be feasible in a handheld because it would consume upwards of 10W >power draw between HDR on and off is more or less the same on the deck OLED
wonder how they did it
I have a Deck, but I don't think I'll buy any more Steam stuff unless it runs windows. Other companies are making better handhelds, and they don't have the limitations of linux. I'll go with one of those next time.
I have a deck and play the shit out of it. I'd like to get the oled model and give this one to a friend, but it's just not worth the upgrade. I'll stick to the lcd until the new one comes out next year or the year after.
>it was a girl the whole time
Holy shit. I honestly thought it was some tranny dude. Well now this is all coming into focus. She's having a hard time scoring and just needs a good dicking.
holy shit that's fucking horrendous.
I don't understand why they chose a matte glass cover for OLED. Did they just not research why people don't fucking use them?
Good fucking god.
Fuck man, i really want the oled but i just bought my deck like a year ago. I dont use it much anymore since i upgraded my pc soon after but the OLED screen and HDR is such a fucking temp. The clear case edition is really sexy and i want it, i hate that no one has reviewed this one yet
I mean the innards are the same, it's just the plastic gate on the sticks, the shell, and the screws, all of that shit you can buy third party on etsy for the same $30 extra it costs lmao

Its got controller support and it actually works really well and I thought it would have been horrible too. Obviously im gonna use mouse 100% of the time on desktop but its actually very comfortable.
at 800p I'm getting a pretty solid 45fps, the update to make it verified seems to have tweaked some graphics settings to make them more preferable for handhelds, you can tweak some upscaling settings to get effective 1080p, you can set settings to low and hit a relatively secure 60 (Excluding some spectacle fights of course), it's a solid title on the deck. ICE works with it too which is basically a whole bunch of fixes for iceborne.
no, what's the point of using the hd textures DLC when you're not at an HD resolution.

the hardware isn't strong enough to do that for world
you could probably do 1080p for rise with little issue
hoping for new windows drivers, honestly. I hope there's an inclination to do it because of the new wifi chip and some other stuff, but dual boot is basically the one thing this device needs to truly be excellent, and the improved performance and better RAM will both contribute greatly to making windows just a little less shit on the deck.
I wouldn't even know what games to play on a deck. everything I like usually requires some level of fine mouse control. I can't imagine factorio, noita, RoR2, or TF2 being a great experience
They're not. People cope about the touchpads being good and they're serviceable, but only because the touchscreen on the deck was fucking abhorrent. Most things with fine mouse control necessary are unplayable. It's also why things like a usb-dock are basically a required purchase, along with a larger ssd.
flickstick + gyro is unironically great in shooters. not a fan of using the trackpads for any kind of fine control beyond general mouse input to navigate UI and mouse regions though
I play Noita on my deck quite regularly and it works pretty well, analog stick for twin stick shooter kinda controls and then the touch pad for fine aiming
>Factorio actually works pretty well
Nobody is saying you can't play Factorio. They're saying you shouldn't. Not when there's much better choices hanging around.
inb4: >b-b-but I really like drawing lines in 2d!
Shapes.io continues to exist.
It's an objective hindrance to OLED by obfuscating the vibrancy that OLED is used for. That's why in pretty much every video we see the comparisons are mild adjustments, the OLED even seeming washed out.
It'll be much better in darker scenarios (vs studio lighting most of the reviews have), but it's still objectively, markedly worse than non-etched screens. They're definitely a benefit when you don't care about color, but if I'm buying an OLED I want a fucking OLED with all of it's niceities.
How did Valve fuck up an OLED screen/tech? Why did the Nintendo Switch OLED look WAY better than the LCD Switch but the Steam Deck OLED looks like garbage? So bizzare to me. I saw lots of comparison with the OLED Switch VS the original and the OLED looked so much better in every game.
It's like Valve used dated tech or cheaper OLED screens.
>Steam Deck OLED looks like garbage?
You are seeing one picture with reflection at a viewing angle you would never use. This is what it looks like compared to the switch OLED:
?t=669
They are basically indistinguishable even with the etched glass.
So first handheld actually in volume production handheld with HDR.
None of the other handhelds have sold in enough numbers to get counted in the Steam survey.
Deck sells in a month more than what most of these systems will sell total.
It;s the etched glass that make it looks worse than LCD, all of the reviewer only got the 1tb version that got the matte screen OLED instead that washed out the color and diminished the pure blacks that oled got
I heard the fan noise was improved, is there any truth to this? One of the reasons I love my Ally is the quiet fans. I'd be willing to give this new Deck a chance.
I've decided to give up on gaming laptops due to their problems and just get something like that on top of a decent rig in the future
Currently I'm torn between deck and legion go
I love go bigger screen and better hardware but at the same time deck software and build quality is superior
any opinions about legion go guys?
No, I'm not looking for a hardware that will melt after no longer than 3 years because temperatures
the rig is for that
All I want is to play my favourite old games and some Indies while being in bed and also consume movies from time to time
The reason why I'm considering go is the fact that the bigger screen will allow me do some laptop activities like editing documents and email very occasionally
I'm also not sure about oled since I could play a game like underrail or fallout 1 for 6 hours non stop
Got both Deck and Go, I was expecting Go to have terrible software, but it's in no way as terrible as I was expecting, the software gets out of it's way to annoy the shit out of you.
Thankfully, Windows 11 is not as horrible as previous windows for touch devices, but you have to keep using the touch keyboard in order to do simple things like close games and using the steam overlay. Yes, you can't do these simple tasks due to how crappy the software is.
The LeGo would of been a 10/10 device, if not for the crappy software. The versatility is unparalleled, It's the best way to play DS and VNs, FPS mode is great, screen real estate is fantastic and I don't feel like I'm missing out on it not being an oled (all my other devices are oled) and I find it to be more ergonomic than the Deck.
Get Deck if you want easy to use, plug and play device that just works.
Get LeGo if you want better everything, but with shitty software that is annoying to navigate.
It really isn't that strange. There are a number of GNU/Linux based systems as well as other UNIX-like systems that people are familiar with that just work. To the point most people probably aren't even aware they're using a UNIX-like OS, or even think of that system as a "computer".
The defining factor of most of those systems is the integration of the hardware and software towards what is typically a fairly narrowly defined role.
The only thing that has happened with the Deck is that the narrowly defined role is PC gaming, and it is built on development that happened in the open over the last 10+ years, without the device being made a closed platform.
Except when it doesn't I tried for an entire day, starting from the Valve suggested steps, to reimage my deck from my deck, nothing worked, turned my windows PC on, burned the image with rufus and it worked.
If you get your Deck into that state, you were almost certainly stepping outside the confines of the 'just works' playground Valve built.
Which is a cool thing that separates SteamOS from other similar UNIX-like OSes like the BSD on the PS5, or Apple's iOS, or Android/Linux, but it also gives the user the potential to break things.
All LCDs and oleds monitor are indeed trash compared to plasma and CRT, yes.
The only good displays you can buy are OLED tvs because they can strobe, reproduction the CRT and PLasma motion clarity.
How easy is it for a complete retard to play things not native on steam on these? Can I play emulators? What about games that dont really use a controller like a point and click game or something on Itch? How awful is the battery life? I'd mostly use this at work or in bed and while i often have time to play at work I might not have an outlet near me
Emulators are easy provided you know how to use emulators to begin with. With non steam games it is going to vary.
Steam deck has shit battery life (as do all other portable gaming systems), OLED which is better has around 2-3 hours for the most demanding games possible at 15W, more if you're playing emulators or less demanding games. It has trackpads and touch screen so point and click games will be about as good or bad as any other computer without a mouse (such as a laptop). Not that anything prevents you from connecting a mouse.
EMulators are super easy. Get emudeck and it sets it all up for you. Point and click is fine. You just need to select the controller options for it. Often times there will already be specific controls made by someone you can select or the usual mouse controls option just works. There is an itch launcher/installer that I tried and it works fine as well with the few I played. Battery life is alright if you are just emulating/not playing AAA games. If you are emulating for example you can even underclock it for extra life (easy to set with a plugin dont worry).
No you don't, that's not how OLED panels degrade. All the time you are displaying a colour other than black on the panel, your OLED RGB subpixels are degrading. So if you have a persistent UI element, lets say a white square in one corner, the blue and green subpixels will degrade faster than the red one (on my Samsung OLED phone anyway, your mileage may vary) which makes it so that if you subsequently display a solid white image you now have a pink square where that white square UI element was previously because the red subpixel has degraded less than the G and B ones.
It happens over a long time, but it doesn't require you to display the same image at all. If there's high contrast between a static element and the surrounding pixels, it's more noticeable.
Takes a long time to happen and how noticeable it is depends on how much pixels are burned out compared to the ones next to them. It's the contrast. You wouldn't likely notice the burn in if the burn in was consistent across the display and you had no brand new screen to compare to.
>You wouldn't likely notice the burn in if the burn in was consistent across the display and you had no brand new screen to compare to.
so you're saying i am right
The fuck is this panel lotto shit? Do you have actual evidence that one manufacturer makes worse panels than the other or something? Why do you care? Both BOE and Samsung have been doing this for a while. BOE and Samsung are #2 and #1 in the mobile phone OLED display market share respectively.
its not particularly high end screen spec wise compared to smartphones or something like apple watch.
Its not qd oled or use some new type tech.
Low ppi, low hz, cant even do vrr
boe is on of the biggest panel manufacturers, if they make panels good enough for iphones they make good enough panels for sd
Also for end users its always better if the parts are dual sourced for prices and shit
>Plenty of games started aiming for 60, 40 or 30 FPS on the original deck as a solid standard milestone of performance >upgrades increase average FPS by 2-3 frames all across the board >All software will readjust for oled's new performance >All games on the LCDeck will drop down to around 28, 38, 58 frames
Oof. It's not looking good LCD friends.... Heh, thanks for beta testing kek!

>want to order the limited edition this week >matte screen only ruins the oled

>CPU on new node >better memory >better memory tracers >better power delivery >better heat distribution on the board >decluttered board >improved airflow >better networking >better cooler >better swtiches
thanks for beta-testing early adopters
the OLED will be GOATED
>overpriced
If anything, comparing the value of the deck with other similar devices, it's a steal, I can't believe they crammed so much in a 300 dollar package.
Why do people talk about OLEDs as if they were some new and confusing tech nobody understands? Even cheapo samsung phones have them nowadays. yeah they get burb in eventually but your lcd backlight goes dim over time too. nothing lasts forever but oled is still way worth it.
I will admit that oled is better, but I prefer LCD because my autism simply cannot handle the possibility of burn in.
My last oled device was a vita and any time I use that thing I have a compulsion to make sure the entire screen is displaying something in an opposite color to prevent/see if there's any burn in.
No thanks. I'll take the piece of mind unironically.
I'm still thinking about an OLED as an upgrade from my existing Deck. The extra storage, the better screen, and the increased battery life would be nice. Its just realistically the games i play on my Deck already often give me 3-5 hours of playtime, the screen is good enough, and I could just buy another SD Card to dedicate to some of the larger games.
What would get me to buy a new Deck, would be some hardware improvements. Not even necessarily a 'Deck 2' level refresh. Stuff like a mode where it can come on and update games at a time when the system is idle and the screen is off, or improvements to the haptics for the dual touchpads, and making the battery and ssd easily replaceable.
>Stuff like a mode where it can come on and update games at a time when the system is idle and the screen is off
this is software >or improvements to the haptics for the dual touchpads, and making the battery and ssd easily replaceable.
unsure about the battery, but improved haptics and easier ssd replacement are part of the oled model
>this is software
It might be doable through software, by having the system wake on a timer or from some signal from Steam on the same network, but it also might require an ARM companion processor that can mount the storage and run updates in the sleep mode without waking.
>improved haptics and easier ssd replacement are part of the oled model
Still not really where I'd like them to be, and the battery is still glued in with the OLED model, though supposedly easier to remove and re-do.
Glossy or etched?
I'd get the top-end model again. Having both systems would have some utility, but I think keeping the older model is preferable as a baseline system for me.
Where if I'm keeping the older model, I don't know that having both is really necessary. I'm not really doing anything that needs any of the new features.
ssd replacement is already easy. I agree though, that the only thing that will make me consider buying a new deck is better hardware. I would personally suck gaben's chode if they released new motherboards with upgraded cpu/gpu that you could swap out with your existing deck. I would suck his fat, sweaty balls too if it came with a shell with an included power supply so you could continue to use your old deck as a desktop pc. I believe framework laptops are supposed to be like that
>wtf is hdr
the dark colors are very dark and the light colors are very light. It's a tacky gimmick because it's like applying the same filter to every movie/game. Not to mention that it's nothing like our eyesight because eyes are meant to adjust to light or dark, not see both at the same time
Probably significant benefit if you play outside, probably a slight drawback if you play in dim lighting or darkness. FWIW I'm going gloss I think after first considering the etched.
buy the limited and later buy the 512 new/used then swap the display since Valve make the OLED ver screen easier to dismantle this time. Voila you got the perfect SD oled then sell the other SD.
It they sell enough of the limited edition. But I don't think that's a very big 'if', and I kind of doubt that the limited edition will be that limited, might just take longer.
They'll just need to make sure they have enough orders to do a run of 50k and then slot it in to the schedule for the new production line.
Of course I bet they'll be 'surprised' and like 90% of orders will be for the 'limited edition'.
if you are excited by the prospect of oled contrast you should absolutely not get the anti-glare coated one, the matte coating is going to neuter the hell out of it no way around it. if oled is a secondary concern to you and you see slightly better contrast as good enough then sure get the anti-glare coating.
I keep retro games and a few games I want available all the time on the internal storage of my 512GB Deck.
Everything else goes on a big SD Card. Only real issue with the 256 or the old 64GB is there is more need to buy bigger SD cards.
>Linux does battery life like shit
Not on systems designed to be used with it like the Deck which beats all its Windows competition for power consumption on battery. Its why Linux based OSes and other UNIX-like OSes dominate the portable market. ChromeOS, Android/LInux, iOS, etc. Linux has issues on hardware made to run Windows, just like Windows has issues running on hardware made to run Linux. Linux works way better on most Windows hardware than Windows does on most Linux hardware (because ARM is the most used platform for Linux).
Battery difference on the new Deck comes from having a slightly larger battery, a more efficient screen, and a slightly more power efficient SoC.
the bezels and screen glare you're gonna get off that makes the upgrade worthless, ignoring the absurdity of carrying a brick around with you just to play games awkwardly in front of others when you can have all the comforts of home in your bedroom. What's the point of gaming outside even?
The only screen replacement I'm aware of also increases the resolution, unless someone is selling an OLED 1280x800 screen for the OG model. The new model's screen can't be used on the old model because of changes to the interface.
Seriously anon, look it up. Deck OLED and the Deck LCD have different internals. You can't order a replacement screen for the OLED and put it in the original system. It isn't compatible.
Maybe somebody can make a shim that includes an adapter to make it work but then you'll have an unusual configuration which would be unsupported by Valve and might cause issues.
Yes, as far as I know the SSD form factor is the same. If you make sure you update SteamOS to the latest version with support for the OLED model it should even just let you transfer it over cleanly.

Presumably they expect people to be playing outside mostly? Dumb guess idk.
Purely my experience, but under airport lighting, my 512GB deck with the matte screen was a lot more usable than my buddy's 64GB one. If you're just staying home (why buy the deck at that point anyway?) then it's probably better to get the cheap one.
In that very same video as soon as he puts it down rather than lifting it in direct studio lighting the screen becomes completely uniform, blacks and all. The anti-glare haters are a meme.

It took Valve about 4 months to get the original Deck production line up to the 50k a week pace they've been maintaining ever since. So maybe they'll discontinue the LCD once the new line is up to speed.
However, at the same time the LCD and the OLED use different chips, different board, different screens, so there is little reason for them to not run both lines.
So they may just keep both lines running, and produce 5.2 million units a year instead of 2.6 million.
You might think to yourself >how did Steamies ever put up with the crap LCD on that thing?
But you've got to remember that according to Steam hardware surveys over 100% of PC players use 1366x768, TN monitors.
We're at the point that the silver bullet shills use to justify overpriced underperforming hardware is calling you poor. Must've taken a page from Nvidia
>Surely Gaben wouldn't fuck me if I order this right?
What do you mean? You mean support? Do you know that Valve keep supporting their hardware products (included discontinued ones) by providing new firmware, updates, etc?
>Valve wouldn't be dumb enough to not stock their warehouses enough? I heard about the Q1 Q2 Q3 horror stories.
According to them, they think they have enough to meet the demand. Otherwise, just order it in case....
Sorry about it. My friend, who lives in tijuana mexico would use the VPN to order the limited edition and ship it to the digital PO Box, so he can cross over to pick up the package from the digital PO Box. I have to say this is very genius method. lol
valve outright lied about "no goydeck upgrades in at least a few years" and released this right after a big sale to get rid of old stock
at this point i wouldn't be surprised if the goydeck 2 comes out right as the stock for the goydeck 1.5 runs out and just in time for christmas
nah, it'll be a few years before they do a full deck 2. Look how long it's taken them to release another VR headset. There's no way to get more performance right now without killing the battery life of the thing, or making it as heavy as a laptop. Maybe it will happen when AMD is on 3nm.
They said there wouldn't be a Deck 2 any time soon. This isn't a Deck 2, just a minor refresh. Their contracts seem to be on a 2 year cycle, so they got the die shrink and are still buying the original version too.
So expect tick/tock from them every two years. Tick new Deck -> Tock die shrink.
>They said there wouldn't be a Deck 2 any time soon.
they also said there wouldn't be any upgrades any time soon
so do you think they will release the goydeck 2 on christmas or will they wait until 2024 q2?

I'm thinking October or November

>they also said there wouldn't be any upgrades any time soon
They did not in fact say that. They said there wouldn't be a significant performance update any time soon.
Astute Linux users made note of the Sephiroth SOC, HDR support, and the Galileo code name a while back.
If you want to be paranoid, watch Linux Gaming websites for updates.

so when do you expect the goydeck 2?
my guess is still right on cue for christmas
I assume people are using decks outside of the house. Otherwise they could have bought a MGX or Backbone for their cellphone, used moonlight + sunshine with any laptop or desktop and accomplished the same thing at home for $100 or less with a 10 hour battery life.
>he thinks people that buy this actually go outside
it's for fatsos that finally became too fat to fit in their gayming chairs and have to game from bed
whenever i go to a microcenter, all the customers look really cool and even stylish. their console section is a really small little corner that goes ignored. you would feel intimidated about how well-kept these computerboys (and girls) are. remember, this is real life.
True. I see more zoomers appearing normies lurking around the PC gaming with their parents. I also see some thugs searching for the best microphone. I assume they are the streamers.
Almost certainly a two year cadence to their contracts with AMD. If they wait 3 years for the Deck 2, it will probably be because they'll be giving it a wide console-style release instead of releasing every batch as it gets produced.
Yeah, but we also shouldn't be surprised if we see them test out higher volume production with one more revision of the current Deck with another revision built down to a price to give them a higher margin version to put on store shelves before Deck 2. I don't think the current LCD version can get them there.
Now that they have the definitive version of the Deck, the next plan is definitely going to be Valve trying establish more distribution lines to other regions.
Once Deck 2 is out, they'll hopefully have decent coverage across all major regions internationally. And that's when it truly hits big.
Yeah, if they're really aiming at 100k a week with this update, they still need to double production again to hit the minimum level for a globally available console. As it is with both lines running they might hit 7.5 million units total next year. Amazing for a PC, but extremely low if Valve wants the Deck to be their 'console'.
>How can you have more than 100% colors?
It just means it can reproduce more colours than SRBG shows >Why doesn't every display show the same color amount?
Just variations in quality. Better screens show more colour and are more accurate
Range of human vision vs how computers represent colors. sRGB would be the system where you have 8bits per channel for each color 0 through 255, while HDR displays have more bits for the green channel up to 1023 because humans see green better than other colors.
>Why doesn't every display show the same color amount?
because display technology is fucking primitive and we're decades away from screens being any good. the fact that screen tearing exists* or that we switched from CRTs which had motion clarity and nice contrast but were big and heavy to flat screens that have only the advantage of being small and light weight, that's a good hint at how bad we still are at making screens. also any replacement tech like OLED comes with its own set of horrible disadvantages. it's an unsolved problem.
*computer monitor technology should have been developed from the ground up around showing only complete images, basically monitors should have had variable refresh and automatic synchronization with the video signal from the start, not as a late innovation after decades, and not as an OPTION
We moved away from CRTs because of the resolution limitations, not because "they're big".
Not to mention they're literally radioactive. They leak ionizing radiation and manufacturers were made aware of this as far back at the 1960s, but they didn't even begin the transition until after 2000. You're complaining about not getting literal cancer right now.
Crying about CRTs going nonstandard is peak tear (get it?) contrarian. It's beneficial to you in all ways but one, but because you're not getting that one aspect of it anymore, you're still going to say it's bad? Try sex sometime.
>retro "gamer" homosexuals have brain cancer
That explains a lot
but someone beat me to it.
Honestly it explains a lot about all the homosexualry that goes on in retro "gaming" and other communities with retards that grew up glued to a CRT like the tendies that unironically still play smash and bing bing wahoo.
The funny part is the person you're describing is actually me. I'm into all of that and I still have a CRT TV just so I can play Duck Hunt on it. (Because no other monitor can play it.)
But I also have no delusions about the transition from CRTs to LCDs, then to LEDs, then strangely back to LCDs, then maybe one day to OLEDs. It's all leading to something better, but slowly and sometimes one tiny aspect of it is a step backwards. It's not ideal, but it's an acceptable sacrifice.
But to outright say CRTs are better than LCDs, LEDs, OLEDs, and Plasmas? That's just a blatant lie. CRTs are for Duck Hunt and the N64. I say the N64 because it was optimized for CRTs, which is why it looks like shit on any other monitor. This is also why we got the NES Classic, the SNES Classic, but never the N64 Classic. It would be an embarrassment.
you know there's going to be a market for 3rd party LCD screen replacement kits
All the first year deckers are going to feel like they got ripped off if they can't get an oled screen
If you don't have them side by side like that you literally can't tell the difference dude
Your eyes and your occipital lobe evolved to understand what color stuff is "supposed" to be regardless of the real color entering your eyeballs
Both look like shit. How do consolecucks cope with mosaic screens?
We like games, not hardware. Tell the Nvidia israelite I said hi when you drop over a grand on your yearly card upgrade so that you can play Team Fortress 2.
name 5 of these games that consolefags like. im ready to laugh.
huh? too busy editing videos while my game is paused and 50 chrome tabs up
My 2 sticks of ram are about the size of your fucking screen. Wake up retard.
>console players
>playing games
nigga you have entire community dedicated to posting what physical editions they buy every week, that are just going to sit on their shelves and never be opened, much less played
>mosaic screens
What are those?
Checkerboard Frame Rendering (CFR)
>those blacks
why do people like oled again? what do i even get with that markup, besides shittier contrast?
the blacks are better on oled
the thing thats lacking is the non-etched screen glass, which becomes more apparent when you purposefully angle it to show in the photo
Doesn't matter. 99% of the people looking at that photo are doing so on an LCD
>the blacks are better on oled
And they're better still on Plasma.
>And they're better still on Plasma.
no, they're not
black literally shuts off the pixels on OLED due to their being self emissive light sources, you don't get more black than off
>buy a screen
>turn the screen off to get "black"
imagine paying money to turn off the product lmao
>the thing thats lacking is the non-etched screen glass
It's the fucking opposite you homosexuals. Look how the left has no grey bezzel because it's oled and the pixels are just off
Right is also in direct sunlight.
so... I should get an LCD model at a discount?
You might be able to pick an used one for cheap now that people are panic selling their old decks.
Given the actual substantial battery-life improvement on the OLED model, I'd say no.
I will literally sell my 256gb model for $200 to a Gankerro after I get an OLED unit.
I can set up a burner email if anyone is interested.
>Spending 50 dollars on a skin and covering it in a case
y tho
The skin only covers where the case doesn't. It's the Killswitch case. Pretty nice.
whys it called killswitch, what does it do
It's the dbrand case. Very durable and has a kickstand.
That being said I'm not selling the case. Gonna use it on my limited edition OLED deck.
Anon do it at a normal site and invite Ganker through it instead. You get protections and tracking you wish you had if you just did it some sideways way.
Probably gonna post it on CL here shortly. If any Gankerirgins live in or around Seattle let me know and we can link up.
That's my gf's ass. I thought it would be a smart advertising tactic.
>That's my girlfriend's ass
Tell her to fucking shave, jesus. What is she? A feminist with too much testosterone that grows leg hair and ass hair?
She's Armenian.
Sorry to hear
Why is it on a hairy ass?
>Buying an anon's 'ickked 'eck
>Anyone
>Ever
Maybe if it's the original 'ick poster, with a document proof of authenticity.
Does that include the shipping? I’m interested as long as the device doesn’t have food or cheeto dust on it
i wouldn't trust anyone on this site
just check your local marketplace
Speaking of, if any Germanons still don't have an SD, I'm selling mine for 380 Euros upgraded with 512GB of Samsung storage, hall effect sticks and the quiet fan.
>buying used
>buying used from a yuro
>buying used from a yuro Gankerner
Kinda tempting tho
>used
Very well cared for if anything. I've kept the battery between 20% and 80% for most of my use, always had it in a case, never 'icked it, etc.
>buying used from a yuro
I'm not shipping this outside of Germany, so duh.
>never 'icked it
>kraut
bullshit
>kraut
Disgusting, don't ever imply that I'm part of this filthy race, I'm actually white. The only reason I'm still here is cause I shacked up with a krautling girl.
bro no one wants your ick'd eck
That depends. The oled model has a 90hz screen, better battery life and better thermals. If any of that matters to you then get the oled. Otherwise, stick to lcd
>90hz
Nothing will take advantage of it though.
If it was 120hz you could at least use it for BFI in retroarch.
I'm sure it could handle older games at 90fps but you're right
I still think the interesting possibility for a 90hz screen is if Gamescope gets global FSR3 support and can double 35-45fps.
A lot of the games I play can hit 90 fps on deck.
Chinkdroid handhelds are far better and cheaper for your SNES and NES emulation anon.
Trials of mana, re2 remake, Batman Arkham City. Just a couple recently played games that can all hit 90 fps on deck.
No you shouldn't trust pictures for testing screen quality. Don't be a retard.
Buy an ad.
How can you capture a HDR screen with a SDR static image?
I need to see an 'ick on both 'ecks before I make my decision.
>glossy lcd
>matte oled
yawn
Need to compare the two different LCD screen types.
Why?
Looks like glare from the light affects them both very differently.
>"you're looking at it wrong"
yes, see
>A single photo is a great representation of a real, physical object that you'll be directly interacting with.
Can you retards actually provide a better comparison?
Wait, the new screen is 16:9?
still the same res only the bezels are smaller so the PPI will be a bit lower
Right, OLED doesn't have backlight, that's why black parts look exactly like the bezels, forgot about it.
The screen is the same size. Oled just looks like it has no bezel because the pixels are turned off instead of being grey
Is that ips bleeding or glow?
Can't cost that much to put a small atw filter in.
that looks horrendous. im glad mine doesnt look like that.
All IPS look like that when you take a picture. Cameras exaggerate the flaws and make it clear how shit IPS is
The LCD screen may have some background bleeding, but you would barely notice it, if you don‘t play in a pitch black room.
Therefor the colors are more accurate, the OLED looks WAY too over saturated.
No that's just ips glow and your zoomer eyes have never seen a good display in your life
Matte sucks so much shit that the glossy lcd is better than the matte OLED. Keep that in mind for any monitor or TV you buy
Ive already seen the videos bro
OLED even with matte completely MOGS the LCD
The difference is not worth paying extra $600 for.
300 dollars after I sell my LCDeck on Ebay.
Already sold my eck bro.
>help I'm poor!
>i'm piss scared of duh man becoming op
>so I handed all my taxes over to capitalism instead
>now I'm forever poor! help!
lol dumbass americans
Only poor people buy steam decks.
>Only poor people buy steam decks.
>help $600 is too much to pay!
pick one retard
There is no contradiction here. $600 is a lot of money for poor people.
then buy it, bitch
I'm not poor, so I have no need for one.
>I'm not poor, so I have no need for one.
the 50% more battery life, lower temps and smaller bezels might be
Heh heh, thanks for beta testing LCDlets!
Is the 64GB deck even worth considering over the 256GB one that costs $50 more?
Upgrading the storage yourself is dead simple. 1TB SSD costs less than $100.
Ah, I was wondering how easy it was to replace the storage. I don't see myself buying one even for $350 since I don't really have a use for it but if they ever get REALLY cheap like $200, eh maybe.
Obviously 256GB for the exlclusive steam profile bundle.
If you were planning to upgrade the SSD yourself in case you wanted more then 256GB, you might as well get the 64GB.
>exlclusive steam profile bundle.
yikes
It's the matte cover retard
Just don't buy it, it ruins the OLED and it costs more
I put a screen protector on the matte 512gb lcd and it corrected it. I just wanted the case and extra gb even though I ended up putting 2tb in anyways.
Now that the deck has OLED and HDR how are switch babies coping?
>OH SO NOW YOU LIKE OLED????
(still don't really like oled, but the 90hz, smaller bezels and a thinner panel that gives me a bigger battery and quieter fan is nice)
>HDR
Thought it was still very experimental on Linux
What magic did they do here
Spent some of their billions upon billions upon billions of dollars towards improving the OS they intend to make the standard?
It's not that wild a prospect honestly.
yeah but like are they shipping it with a custom kernel or what
you still need to patch it yourself if you want HDR to work with gamescope and even then it's not the best experience
I don't know anon, are the devs of a quite advanced fork of arch shipping their product with a custom kernel?
It's almost like they discussed it in depth in the blogpost for the 3.5 beta, and the OLED was/is being shipped with 3.5 full.
Its not like there are many games that use HDR and those are the only titles they need to focus on in the meantime on steamos
Literally hired hundreds of linux developers to improve proton and SteamOS.
It just werks. Check the digital foundry video.
Still playing Switch games on Switch, PC games on PC, and not playing video games in public like an autist.
Implying I don't play my deck at home comfy on the couch emulating switch games at 60fps with an OLED HDR display. Cope. Seethe. Dilate.
You don't because all you said can't happen right now
You're in a thread about a new deck that's OLED and supports HDR. Emulating switch games with better performance than the switch is already possible. Cry about it.
>emulating swith games on the deck
Tried it once, didn't have a good time
Werks on my machine
>werks
Exact same machine I have and it "works" but in no way it is better than a switch, which completely defeats the purpose of emulating.
Werks on my machine
>subswitch performance
ok
Didn't even get a OLED switch
If you download a 150gb rar, spend 20 minutes uncompressing it, run the custom exe to decompress the custom bin for another 20 minutes, just to run the installer that takes another 20 minutes, and it ends up not even installing or running, then you have to download a different 150gb rar and the average person would rather just pay for the fucking game at that point.
haha jokes on them, im an autist who downloads 100gb+ repacks that my potato laptop isn't capable of playing, then i unpack and install them, then uninstall them
my ISP has no data limit, so fuck em, that's what they get for being israeli
?t=430
actual comparison
OLED beats tbe LCD easily.
Even on a youtube video I can instantly tell.
Uh, yeah, no shit. Even if you don't care about oled, the deck's original lcd had mediocre color range. Anything would be an upgrade.
I'm just stating the obvious because OP is being a cuck and posting a shit comparison image.
The OLED looked too saturated in most of those comparisons, IMO. I'm guessing it was cranked up on both to show the difference but I actually preferred the bottom in most of them.
Is that LCD deck on stock settings or using vibrantdeck? I'm guessing the former.
No idea, the guy just said it was the 512GB LCD model versus 1TB OLED.
I listen to his podcast, he's running the beta OS with the built in color calibration and has it at stock color srgb settings. I am as well, and by my estimation it's like 120 saturation on vibrant deck.
you can adjust saturation now on the steam deck menu, so you can tune the colors to your liking without plugins.
Those smaller bezels are so fucking nice, I’m actually reconsidering selling my Deck
god what a piece of shit device.
Yeah, that's clearly some user settings from somebody who uses reshade
>3rd world anons watching the video in 720p on their 6 inch cell phone screen
>"I don't see a difference!"
>still garbage d-pad in almost 2024
>still no hall effect sticks in almost 2024
>600$+ tip
yeah no valve can suck a dick
>still no hall effect sticks in almost 2024
wow, just like every other first party console manufacturer
a 165$ retrobit has them and that's what I'm going to buy because it won't break after a month and will have an actual d-pad
I don't care
Until someone makes a webm showcasing the differences in motion/animation then I won't believe a static image. That one Nintendo Switch webm does a good job showing the clear difference between the regular screen and the OLED screen.
op you know what your doing with the fucking picture unless u dont and you're retarded.
>people like the phawx were saying HDR wouldn't even be feasible in a handheld because it would consume upwards of 10W
>power draw between HDR on and off is more or less the same on the deck OLED
wonder how they did it
Same way Apple did years ago.
pretty happy with my original deck, i just use it to play 2d shit while im on the treadmill
I have a Deck, but I don't think I'll buy any more Steam stuff unless it runs windows. Other companies are making better handhelds, and they don't have the limitations of linux. I'll go with one of those next time.
>but I don't think I'll buy any more Steam stuff unless it runs windows.
But Anon, it CAN run windows.
Just install it yourself.
Windows is gay. Time to move on.
I have a deck and play the shit out of it. I'd like to get the oled model and give this one to a friend, but it's just not worth the upgrade. I'll stick to the lcd until the new one comes out next year or the year after.
Cant believe valve betrayed us..
Why the fuck didn't they just sell the screens or upgrades on the side?
LET US TRADE IN OUR OLD DECK
LET US SHIP OUR DECK TO YOU FOR A DISCOUNT ON THE NEW UPGRADES
HOLY FUCK
IT'S ONLY BEEN A YEAR AND YOU UPGRADE THE INTERNALS AND THE SCREEN
Yeah bro, we got fucked by gabe
What is the origin of this video?
I want to know what's going on in it, but searching for "virgin drama lib tranny goes emo in public" yields unrelated results.
reaction to Orangemanbad getting elected
>it was a girl the whole time
Holy shit. I honestly thought it was some tranny dude. Well now this is all coming into focus. She's having a hard time scoring and just needs a good dicking.
2016 inauguration day IIRC
>Zero difference
>Not even a color change
Nice.
There are pictures in this very thread you're ignoring.
holy shit that's fucking horrendous.
I don't understand why they chose a matte glass cover for OLED. Did they just not research why people don't fucking use them?
Good fucking god.
REMINDER YOU DONT NEED AN OLED DECK
YOU DONT NEED TO UPGRADE
OLED LOOKS LIKE SHIT LCD IS FINE
DO NOT LOG ON STEAM ON THE 16TH AND ORDER ONE
I REPEAT
DO NOT TRY TO ORDER ONE ON NOVEMBER 16 2023
>t. fox
You're saying this to yourself in the mirror aren't you?
i WILL order one on november 16
Fuck man, i really want the oled but i just bought my deck like a year ago. I dont use it much anymore since i upgraded my pc soon after but the OLED screen and HDR is such a fucking temp. The clear case edition is really sexy and i want it, i hate that no one has reviewed this one yet
Only like 4 or 5 of those were sent out to reviewers, most got the 1tb oled.
Yeah ive been looking for reviewers who had the chance to get one, not even linus received it.
I mean the innards are the same, it's just the plastic gate on the sticks, the shell, and the screws, all of that shit you can buy third party on etsy for the same $30 extra it costs lmao
>linus
I hope you're not referring to that LTT homosexual.
If you're still taking advice from him today then you're a retard of the highest caliber and should wash your mouth out with buckshot.
What's wrong with Langdon Tactical?
>you're a retard of the highest caliber
ironic when you cant even contextualize a sentence.
>ive been looking for reviewers
and it just so happens that linus is also a reviewer with one of the larger follower counts on the platform, and even he wasnt able to get one showing how scarce they are currently. retard
NTA, dipshit. You're responding to a whole different guy now.
Try not being such a newfag, please.
Btw, you're still a retard if you're taking advice from linus.
sure man
Argue the point.
You literally can't.
Btw, your LTT leader is a filthy israelite. It's on you if you believe his lies.
haha
>redditspacing nagger calling anyone a newfag
Trying too hard to fit in
>redditspacing
Forced meme was always forced. You're an actual fucking retard if you fell for that psyops shit.
I don't know who's responsible for it but they must be very proud of themselves for convincing an entire generation of zoomers that proper formatting is 'le redditspacing'.
Imagine opening a book just once.
>He still hasn't realized "redditspacing" was just a way to tell on yourself as a newfag
Only thing I don't like about it is the etched glass.
One looks smaller than the other.
>steamies getting Nintendo's leftovers
lol
lmao
Cool. Not going to upgrade for it but its neat its an option now. Its sad they got rid of the 64gb one.
>Its sad they got rid of the 64gb one.
Why? The new base model costs the same as the 64gb when it came out.
Oh shit you are right. Never mind thats pretty nice.
>Slay the Spire without mouse
That feels like it would be arse to play
Its got controller support and it actually works really well and I thought it would have been horrible too. Obviously im gonna use mouse 100% of the time on desktop but its actually very comfortable.
Ew zoomer spongebob
LCD looks better
LCD looks 10x better
OLED looks like a washed out piece of shit
imagine living in 2033-10 and STILL buying oled
anyone know if a steam deck can play monster hunter world iceborne with hd textures dlc installed at 1080p 60fps docked?
>monster hunter world
sure
>modded
sure
>1080p 60fps
probably not
what is the average frame rate?
at 800p I'm getting a pretty solid 45fps, the update to make it verified seems to have tweaked some graphics settings to make them more preferable for handhelds, you can tweak some upscaling settings to get effective 1080p, you can set settings to low and hit a relatively secure 60 (Excluding some spectacle fights of course), it's a solid title on the deck. ICE works with it too which is basically a whole bunch of fixes for iceborne.
and thats with the official hd textures dlc? i read the hd pack requires 8 gb of vram. i thought maybe that would be a bit much for the steam deck
no, what's the point of using the hd textures DLC when you're not at an HD resolution.
well i figured it would look better if i docked it and played it on my television
Then you're accepting the tradeoff of a way lower res.
This isn't a switch, docking gives you 0 benefit.
i guess. i feel like its way overpriced then considering i can build a budget 1080p 60fps pc for cheaper. i thought id consider the steam deck though because the mobility was tempting
It's not a powerful device, it's very much designed for 2015 and earlier games. It CAN play newer stuff but not well, and without VRR it's fucking painful.
the hardware isn't strong enough to do that for world
you could probably do 1080p for rise with little issue
probably gonna be best at 40hz, you are not going to be pushing 1080p though
>60fps
Absolutely not.
Also why not just google "monster hunter world steam deck performance"?
No. Get a PC handheld instead.
>monster hunter world iceborne
This isn't mid 2010s anymore, bro.
MT Frameworks blood sacrifice has ran out like 5 years ago
Are you fucking retarded?
hoping for new windows drivers, honestly. I hope there's an inclination to do it because of the new wifi chip and some other stuff, but dual boot is basically the one thing this device needs to truly be excellent, and the improved performance and better RAM will both contribute greatly to making windows just a little less shit on the deck.
LCD is just better, homosexuals. Enjoy your burn in- OLED cucks
Old gold, new bad?
I wouldn't even know what games to play on a deck. everything I like usually requires some level of fine mouse control. I can't imagine factorio, noita, RoR2, or TF2 being a great experience
They're not. People cope about the touchpads being good and they're serviceable, but only because the touchscreen on the deck was fucking abhorrent. Most things with fine mouse control necessary are unplayable. It's also why things like a usb-dock are basically a required purchase, along with a larger ssd.
Absolutely would not recommend Factorio, but touch pads with gyro is great for FPS.
flickstick + gyro is unironically great in shooters. not a fan of using the trackpads for any kind of fine control beyond general mouse input to navigate UI and mouse regions though
I play Noita on my deck quite regularly and it works pretty well, analog stick for twin stick shooter kinda controls and then the touch pad for fine aiming
Can you even do the higher orb runs on that without it completely dying?
Not on one battery charge if you mean a full orb run, but it doesnt have any performance hitches
Factorio actually works pretty well.
>Factorio actually works pretty well
Nobody is saying you can't play Factorio. They're saying you shouldn't. Not when there's much better choices hanging around.

>b-b-but I really like drawing lines in 2d!

REMINDER
All the preview units sent to reviewers were the 1tb model with etched glass. We have yet to see the superior glossy OLED deck in action.
whats wrong with etched glass exactly? is this a subjective complaint or an actual downside of the anti glare screen
Washes out color a little bit by diffusing light. Whole point of OLED is color vibrancy.
There's a video in this very thread comparing the deck OLED to the Switch OLED and it looks exactly the same.
>Steam Deck OLED looks like garbage?
You are seeing one picture with reflection at a viewing angle you would never use. This is what it looks like compared to the switch OLED:
?t=669
They are basically indistinguishable even with the etched glass.
DELET DIS. YOU LIAR!
rumor is they're using the same manufacturer bro
It's literally using the same screen as Switch OLED and has HDR on top of that.
>same screen as Switch OLED
Not really. it is 7.4 inches. Steamdeck OLED would be the first handheld featuring HDR.
It is the same screen, just cut to a different shape. It does have HDR, look it up
Nope. Look again.
Per Lenovo official website, it doesn't say HDR.
>Muh 500 nits brightness
Fake HDR then
Wrong again
The Switch looks a thousand times better
ya sure tendie
The Switch has a way better image, not sure what you're trying to achieve.
Steamdeck OLED doesn't use the same inferior OLED Switch using. It is bigger and has HDR.
The image is out of focus on the deck part of the image making it look worse.
>not sure what you're trying to achieve.
He's correcting that anon saying its the same screen. Can you read?
Legion Go also has HDR
So first handheld actually in volume production handheld with HDR.
None of the other handhelds have sold in enough numbers to get counted in the Steam survey.
Deck sells in a month more than what most of these systems will sell total.
Deckfags are so delusional
It;s the etched glass that make it looks worse than LCD, all of the reviewer only got the 1tb version that got the matte screen OLED instead that washed out the color and diminished the pure blacks that oled got
So do go for the glossy 512 model or the matte 1tb model?
Consensus seems to be get the glossy 512 and buy a 2tb ssd at some point in the future.
I heard the fan noise was improved, is there any truth to this? One of the reasons I love my Ally is the quiet fans. I'd be willing to give this new Deck a chance.
Yes. Device is generally cooler and theyre using a bigger fan with a non whiney fan profile
I've decided to give up on gaming laptops due to their problems and just get something like that on top of a decent rig in the future
Currently I'm torn between deck and legion go
I love go bigger screen and better hardware but at the same time deck software and build quality is superior
any opinions about legion go guys?
Just get a laptop if you're getting a legion go
No, I'm not looking for a hardware that will melt after no longer than 3 years because temperatures
the rig is for that
All I want is to play my favourite old games and some Indies while being in bed and also consume movies from time to time
The reason why I'm considering go is the fact that the bigger screen will allow me do some laptop activities like editing documents and email very occasionally
I'm also not sure about oled since I could play a game like underrail or fallout 1 for 6 hours non stop
Get the Legion Go. Deck chip is too outdated.
>Linux device just werks
>Windows devicve makes you jump through hoops
We live in the strangest times
Ah yeah, and I fucking love it for that
Literally a huge selling point to me. Its the first handheld I didn't have to jailbreak so I can use it like I want. Because Valve arent homosexuals.
>Valve arent homosexuals
>flatpak only
Pick one.
>Because Valve arent homosexuals.
hahahahahaha
If this is my first one though, OLED's the way to go, right?
oled looks better with the smaller bezels
OLED is the biggest meme since 3D displays
All LCDs and oleds monitor are indeed trash compared to plasma and CRT, yes.
The only good displays you can buy are OLED tvs because they can strobe, reproduction the CRT and PLasma motion clarity.
>3D displays
we NEED those back
imagine a steamdeck with a 3D screen and face tracking
>Rebuying a Steam Deck
>When Valve have all but confirmed Steam Deck 2 is coming in 2025
How do you know you won't be dead or eating out of trash bins in 2025?
Because I'll have $600 I didn't waste on a Steam Deck OLED, and instead food.
Almost no one bought the original steam deck anon. It only sold 3 million units
It's unix, so it depends, it's either completely solved, smooth and easy as fuck, or it requires a shitton of tweaking and never works properly.
If you are emulating for example you can even underclock it for extra life (easy to set with a plugin dont worry).
>oled
lul, have fun with the screen burn in
You running your OLED shit 24/7 for a year or more, anon?
So.. if you run the oled deck 6 hours a day it only will last 4 years? Impressive.
Not how it works. If you turn off the screen, the pixels can cool down, it's only a problem with uninterrupted on time.
That makes no physical sense.
In actuality oled displays have a pixel refresh cycles that run when the display is turned off but still has power.
Heat also impacts how quickly oled pixels degrade which is why theres generally a heatsink in new oled tvs and monitors
It still degrades over time only slower.
you'd have to be on the same static screen for all of that time
No you don't, that's not how OLED panels degrade.
You wouldn't likely notice the burn in if the burn in was consistent across the display and you had no brand new screen to compare to.
cool, thanks
>You wouldn't likely notice the burn in if the burn in was consistent across the display and you had no brand new screen to compare to.
so you're saying i am right
>Retards cannot comprehend turning off their monitor
My 6yo son knows how to do it. Why can't you?
NEW SIGHTING OF ICK ON ECK POSTER
I REPEAT, NEW SIGHTING OF /OURKING/
Thoughts on the panel loto?
>h-hey guys could you please reply to my thread? thx
But what are your thoughts on the panel loto?
I already posted in your thread. Like I said, be sure to snag that limited edition, bud.
Also for end users its always better if the parts are dual sourced for prices and shit
>changshit
Pass
This might be the most hideous device to hit the market
>no vrr, no 120hz, no bfi
oled or not, it's still bad
OG deck is just fine
dry ass hands
get some cream on them nigga
give it back, tyrone
I expect to see an oled from you or I will be disappoint
>Plenty of games started aiming for 60, 40 or 30 FPS on the original deck as a solid standard milestone of performance
>upgrades increase average FPS by 2-3 frames all across the board
>All software will readjust for oled's new performance
>All games on the LCDeck will drop down to around 28, 38, 58 frames
Oof. It's not looking good LCD friends.... Heh, thanks for beta testing kek!
I am saving up my credit card's cash rewards to get the upgrade sometime next year. I'm still perfectly happy with the original Deck for now.
the OLED version is still the better version due to internals
might actually buy one instead of a laptop since I will begin traveling soon
>no one ITT realizing that the image in OP is misleading because it’s comparing the glossy lcd to matte oled, not glossy to glossy or matte to matte
this board is full of simpletons
/thread
how are so many people falling for this shitty bait?
>want to order the limited edition this week
>matte screen only ruins the oled
I hate this so much, how retarded would it be to just swap it with a normal oled screen later?

What's the iPhone tech like, is it Oled? Before I replaced the screen of my iPhone, it looked so vivid and colorful, does Oled look like that?
>CPU on new node
>better memory
>better memory tracers
>better power delivery
>better heat distribution on the board
>decluttered board
>improved airflow
>better networking
>better cooler

thanks for beta-testing early adopters
the OLED will be GOATED
everyone is always beta testing, something better is always around the corner.
>everyone is always beta testing
not true is you buy the later revisions of a product
Not worth it if you own the og. Who the fuck even plays majority of their game in broad daylight?
>Overpriced switch on left
>Subjectively slightly better screen overpriced switch on right
OHNONONONO, HOW WILL LCD CHUDS EVER RECOVER?
I just fucking HATE the design of it. It's really the only reason why I'm sticking to the superior version of the Switch, the Lite.
ick on eck
nice lie
I can only show you the truth, I can't make you accept it.
Now dim the lights and take the same picture.
>The basic properties of directional light are too complex for many anons to understand
I fucking hate you all and hope you all die.
Glossy or etched?
>Stuff like a mode where it can come on and update games at a time when the system is idle and the screen is off
this is software
>or improvements to the haptics for the dual touchpads, and making the battery and ssd easily replaceable.
unsure about the battery, but improved haptics and easier ssd replacement are part of the oled model
>this is software
It might be doable through software, by having the system wake on a timer or from some signal from Steam on the same network, but it also might require an ARM companion processor that can mount the storage and run updates in the sleep mode without waking.
>improved haptics and easier ssd replacement are part of the oled model
Still not really where I'd like them to be, and the battery is still glued in with the OLED model, though supposedly easier to remove and re-do.
I believe framework laptops are supposed to be like that
wtf is hdr anyway?
its impossible to tell from its description or pictures
Screen can go giga bright so you get big contrast. It's a meme on OLED since it makes burn-in more likely and it's generally way too bright.
>wtf is hdr
the dark colors are very dark and the light colors are very light. It's a tacky gimmick because it's like applying the same filter to every movie/game. Not to mention that it's nothing like our eyesight because eyes are meant to adjust to light or dark, not see both at the same time
Should I get the limited edition? How big a deal is the antiglare coating?
Probably significant benefit if you play outside, probably a slight drawback if you play in dim lighting or darkness. FWIW I'm going gloss I think after first considering the etched.
you wont get the pure black color even with the glossy screen protector
What should I do?
buy the limited and later buy the 512 new/used then swap the display since Valve make the OLED ver screen easier to dismantle this time. Voila you got the perfect SD oled then sell the other SD.
O-okay. Can I just buy the limited and keep it?
no
sell the 512 since you swap the limited matte display with 512 glossy oled?? Keep the limited with the glossy display
O-okay I will. I'm sorry for the questions...
but try to get the limited edition first since it's very limited, dont get both at launch
I will. It looks so clean <3
and make an 'ick on 'eck post when you get it
O-okay. I'm a little intimidated because the usual poster is so big compared to me...
Technically it would be an 'ick on 'led 'eck post
Valve indicated that they'll be doing more transparent/colored cases in the future in their tested interview
I never liked the transparent case ever since the GBA era
Seconded. Those metallic red extremerate shells have my attention however.
if you are excited by the prospect of oled contrast you should absolutely not get the anti-glare coated one, the matte coating is going to neuter the hell out of it no way around it. if oled is a secondary concern to you and you see slightly better contrast as good enough then sure get the anti-glare coating.
>256 GB
What kind of games can you even fit on this thing? Most games are 100gb+ minimum now
I keep retro games and a few games I want available all the time on the internal storage of my 512GB Deck.
Everything else goes on a big SD Card. Only real issue with the 256 or the old 64GB is there is more need to buy bigger SD cards.
Or you could just swap the SSD, it's really easy.
>Most games are 100gb+ minimum now
If you play aaa slop
After 'ick on 'eck guy's dedication, I would never ever buy a second hand 'eck. Ewww.
What will the battery difference be?
I thought the biggest hangup was the fact Linux does battery life like shit
oled is 30-50% improved battery life depending on the scenario
What's the point of gaming outside even?
just screen swap if you want oled it's not hard... learn to plug out a small ribbon or maybe your fingers are too fat
The only screen replacement I'm aware of also increases the resolution, unless someone is selling an OLED 1280x800 screen for the OG model. The new model's screen can't be used on the old model because of changes to the interface.
fingers are too fat people i quoted
Seriously anon, look it up. Deck OLED and the Deck LCD have different internals. You can't order a replacement screen for the OLED and put it in the original system. It isn't compatible.
Maybe somebody can make a shim that includes an adapter to make it work but then you'll have an unusual configuration which would be unsupported by Valve and might cause issues.
Can I still use my SSD from the LCD deck on the OLED?
Yes, as far as I know the SSD form factor is the same. If you make sure you update SteamOS to the latest version with support for the OLED model it should even just let you transfer it over cleanly.
yes you can, ETA PRIME already tested it with 64gb emmc
Thanks friends.
you cant swap it with the lcd SD this time
Valve is selling 3 models: LCD, baseline OLED and matted screen OLED.
Which one should I get for Christmas? I am a PC boomer who mostly pirates.
matted oled is already confirmed to suffer from grey blacks
can you link a video please
here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsJTZ_K2BIQ
fuck man, why did valve opt for the etched glass on the limited edition one too, surely they must fucking know it looks terrible
because matte=le premium
Presumably they expect people to be playing outside mostly? Dumb guess idk.
Purely my experience, but under airport lighting, my 512GB deck with the matte screen was a lot more usable than my buddy's 64GB one. If you're just staying home (why buy the deck at that point anyway?) then it's probably better to get the cheap one.
In that very same video as soon as he puts it down rather than lifting it in direct studio lighting the screen becomes completely uniform, blacks and all. The anti-glare haters are a meme.
because people would complain that the most expensive top tier limited model doesn't have the "premium" anti glare
just put a glass screen protector on it innit
>pay 20% more for the fancy anti-glare screen
>put a layer of plastic on it, negating the anti-glare effect
Why would you do this?
To have the best premium product and laugh at everyone beneath me
linus penis tips brought up the fact glossy screens on normal panels is fucking retarded, and it is
the problem is it fucks over oleds and the shift started to happen when oleds started to become more easily accessible to consumers
hilarious too because it's a cost saving measure
>linus penis tips brought up the fact glossy screens on normal panels is fucking retarded, and it is
>the problem is it fucks over oleds
Why is it a problem? What does it fuck up, exactly?
The OLEDS

>just roll the gacha buying goydecks until you get the good screen bro
BOE and Samsung are the 2 manufacturers for the iPhone 15 Max and that has impeccable quality levels so I think we'll be ok.
nah, I will get the limited edition that will have the best everything.
Why do people even buy gaymen laptops with RGBT lights when the cost of mobile workstations depreciates at the speed of light?
You'll only be like one or two GPU gens behind for a fraction of the price with better build quality upgradeability and support. Any game it can't run now will also be cheaper and usually in a better state once you swap out in a couple too.
they don't make mobile workstations with high framerate displays
Accidentally replied to myself instead, guess I should sleep then
>chinkshit
You can just hook them up to a monitor and if you really need better graphics right away there's always E-GPUs.
Anon, workstations are probably the least chinkish laptops you can buy.
thanks for beta testing retards
Keep seething lcd tranny
Imagine buying a "portable" system this fucking huge.
1-2 hour battery life too.
Holy shit.

charges the deck to full with 50% to spare
it is a bit hefty if u strap it to your deck (killswitch case) but if u have it in ur lap or on a desk it's not much of an issue
after some digging around i went with the Anker 737
>Anker 737
good choice, i was going to go with that one but it was outta my budget at the time (150 bux)
went through all his power bank videos and was satisfied with this one, seems like its the general consensus too since its his most popular video. its on sale currently for 100 and same day prime delivery
MENTAL HEALTH IS NOT A JOKE!
kek trannyjanny worked fast
I guess truth really hurts
my steam deck started to create clicking sounds on the plastic case and touchpad
You got YOUR refurbished Deck on discount while you could, right?
These LCDecks are going to go lower and lower. Waste of money buying one now.
How cheap are used LCD Decks gonna go once the OLED version drops?
It took Valve about 4 months to get the original Deck production line up to the 50k a week pace they've been maintaining ever since. So maybe they'll discontinue the LCD once the new line is up to speed.
However, at the same time the LCD and the OLED use different chips, different board, different screens, so there is little reason for them to not run both lines.
So they may just keep both lines running, and produce 5.2 million units a year instead of 2.6 million.
I sold my 512gb for like 300 bucks.
It will go lower than that. I would not be surprised if the 64gb ones fetch for as low as 200.
Yeah, I sold my 512 gb for $385 on CL.
You might think to yourself
>how did Steamies ever put up with the crap LCD on that thing?
But you've got to remember that according to Steam hardware surveys over 100% of PC players use 1366x768, TN monitors.
>mfw 2 32 inch 1440p IPS monitors
Top = DeckHD
Bottom = Steam Deck OLED
NOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T PLAY THAT IT'S NOT ON ORIGINAL HARDWARE YOU ARE STEALING

We're at the point that the silver bullet shills use to justify overpriced underperforming hardware is calling you poor. Must've taken a page from Nvidia
Surely Gaben wouldn't fuck me if I order this right?
Valve wouldn't be dumb enough to not stock their warehouses enough? I heard about the Q1 Q2 Q3 horror stories.
Seriously? People on this site will make fun of people for anything. I'll be getting my second deck oled no problem
I know right... those poorfags are so jelly. I sold my 512GB for $385 last night. I will use this money to get the limited edition. Life is good.
>cuck that needs to resell hardware to afford shit calling other people poor
lmfao
At least, I can enjoy something while you bitter poorfag has nothing to do. What a sad life.
I don't need two decks, so I had to rid of this old deck for the OLED one. Cope harder, poorfag
>limited edition
Once again I fucking hate Americans
Sorry about it. My friend, who lives in tijuana mexico would use the VPN to order the limited edition and ship it to the digital PO Box, so he can cross over to pick up the package from the digital PO Box. I have to say this is very genius method. lol
Were I not Europoor I'd do that myself, but customs would most likely rape my ass or seize the package
Once again, I love being American.
Sorry buddy but I smartly waited for LCDcucks to betatest for me.
OLED is just a beta test for deck 2. Just keep waiting.
Yeah, just wait till the end of 2025. Meanwhile I will enjoy my OLED deck till Deck 2.
Whatever you say beta testing cuck.
How does the screen compare to Ayaneo 2?
remember switch oled had shitty green tint, the screen lottery could be some bullshit
>Already obsolete
>steam deck 2 right around the corner
Steamies get what they deserve
valve knows they can fully get away with milking the goys for all their worth and they will happily allow it
It looks like Valve is just copying the page of Nintendo Switch OLED.
Pretty much. They should have learned a thing or two from nintendo's button layout.
IT IS OK WHEN NINTENDO DOES IT!
>valve releases consoles revision literallyntwo years after their release and just one year after nintendo
Deck will never reach vita sales or wii u
valve outright lied about "no goydeck upgrades in at least a few years" and released this right after a big sale to get rid of old stock
at this point i wouldn't be surprised if the goydeck 2 comes out right as the stock for the goydeck 1.5 runs out and just in time for christmas
>goydeck 2
It's definitely coming out next year as switch 2 will be out. By that time valve would have been able to get some new ideas
I read that APU from AMD is not ready for next year. Probably end of 2025.
Sounds perfect, ship the goydeck 2 early 2024 and the 2.5 early 2025, just in time for the 3 to use the new APU.
nah, it'll be a few years before they do a full deck 2.
Otherwise they could have bought a MGX or Backbone for their cellphone, used moonlight + sunshine with any laptop or desktop and accomplished the same thing at home for $100 or less with a 10 hour battery life.
>streaming
lol trash
If you're still using a WRT54G, maybe. Wifi 6E with ethernet backhaul works just fine in 4000 sqft
>he thinks people that buy this actually go outside
it's for fatsos that finally became too fat to fit in their gayming chairs and have to game from bed
whenever i go to a microcenter, all the customers look really cool and even stylish. their console section is a really small little corner that goes ignored. you would feel intimidated about how well-kept these computerboys (and girls) are. remember, this is real life.
True. I see more zoomers appearing normies lurking around the PC gaming with their parents. I also see some thugs searching for the best microphone. I assume they are the streamers.
There was no new deck last Christmas, schizo
wait, which one is mine? i have the earlier one
WAITFAGS BTFO
Almost certainly a two year cadence to their contracts with AMD. If they wait 3 years for the Deck 2, it will probably be because they'll be giving it a wide console-style release instead of releasing every batch as it gets produced.
Yeah, I do think we will see the steam deck 2 in 2026.
I'm most likely going to sell my 512gb and get the 1tb oled tbh
the one with a matte finish? don't.
nice meme
Pray tell, why not?
Why not?
see the videos ITT
As a C2 owner, I would love a matte oled
lol LCD beta tester cope
>63%
>117%
I never understood how that works. How can you have more than 100% colors? Why doesn't every display show the same color amount?
>How can you have more than 100% colors?
It just means it can reproduce more colours than SRBG shows
>Why doesn't every display show the same color amount?
Just variations in quality. Better screens show more colour and are more accurate
forgot pic
I'm guessing the colored portion is the spectrum of actually visible colors? And if so, how is it possible for photopro to display more than that?
SOUL
Was going to post
but someone beat me to it.
So from what im reading I don't need to be there on the dot to order this thing right?
They'll have enough stock that I can just order later that day?
You can order, but you'll be put on a reservation system. You're almost certainly going to miss the first wave.
If you don't have them side by side like that you literally can't tell the difference dude
Your eyes and your occipital lobe evolved to understand what color stuff is "supposed" to be regardless of the real color entering your eyeballs
>unironically justifying valve literally scamming people
>just roll the gacha buying goydecks until you get the good screen bro
My 64gb LCD arrives tomorrow. I am pretty hyped.
Enjoy anon.
be sure to upgrade the m.2 2230 ssd when you are able. Games love to eat memory with shader cache
the steam deck's d-pad sucks so bad, playing fighting games on it is a struggle
