Some days ago i made a thread about picrel asking if someone had a dump of it, but a lot of you didn't even know about the existence of this game.
Finally someone dumped it and it's quite good.
Here the link for the anons who want to try it: https://mega.nz/file/kUFG1AbB#QXzsrguaJmOvTvkd81vsbd0UJ7TWmjY3kIOyKySiK1I
Redpill me on life on Mars
Is it another kickstarter scam a la paprium?
It is a remake of the same game made like 7 year ago on the MSX. It was ported on on pc and now on the Megadrive.
It's focused on exploration, but don't expect the quality of Super Metroid.
Interesting
>but don't expect the quality of Super Metroid
This yeah, its not a bad game. but it could have used some more graphical effects and different ways of showing the progressing of the story other than just some text underneath the screen.
tl;dr its good but a bit bland
Thanks.
Any more rom dumps that's worth testing before I buy
#
Is this the demo or the full game? Don't waste my time
Why would I create a thread for the demo moron.
It's the full game rom, it was dumped this week.
Jesus frick what is wrong with you.
That's a basement dwelling moron level response
Thank you anon, looks cool.
>and it's quite good.
No it's not. The map design is bland as frick, movement is very stilted, and the game forces you to grind for upgrades because the enemies are damage sponges. It is a step up from Metal Dragon though which could've been an okay game if it weren't for the horrendous humor.
Did they ever dump this one?
It's not even about dumping. Just like some SNES games, it has its own special chip that would need to be emulated just for this game. Even if it was perfectly dumped, it wouldn't work in any current emulator, unless some dev reverse engineered the said chip.
Honestly a port to the 32X would be a better option
does it work on the mega everdrive?
As I said, no. The special chip lies inside the Paprium cartridge and does its own computations, in addition to the Mega Drive's. When you dump the game, you're dumping its data, not its components. Let's use a crude example, think about a book. The game would be the pages full of letters, while the chip would be the typewriter (ancient, I know). You don't transcribe a typewriter, but create a simulacrum which does the same job. There's no special chip (Datameister is the one Paprium uses) inside any Mega Drive, Everdrive or emulator, because it wasn't replicated yet. When (and if) it does, an updated version of the emulator or flashcart will be needed, bringing along the changes pertinent to the replication.
No. The game relies way too much on special chips it's barely even an actual Genesis game. There is a reverse engineering project and I hope it's successful purely to spite Fonzie.
Isn't the chip just a goddamn ARM cpu?
It's a STM32 and all it does is handle the sound
The game can be played without sound in some Genesis emulators if you can make the necessary modifications
Some autist named dotslash dumped the romz but he couldn't dump the stm because it has rdp2, it's on internet archive
Okay but can you emulate the untapped potential of the Megawire?! Checkmate.
>Be Fonzie
>The game can be updated!
>But I wont cuz its perfect
>Point out problems
>ITS PERFECT!
>With le megawire you can do le online thingies with paprium!
>I'm also never releasing it lol
-_-
It's working, anon. Thanks! Gonna try it soon.
Being a total schizo here, but how the padronized name of the file should be? "Life On Mars (World) (Aftermarket).md"?
I converted it to bin and fixed the checksum and named it "Life on Mars (W) (Unl).bin
What's the difference about being a .bin file and having the right (how to know?) checksum? I'm new to this.
Also, what's even the difference (or need) between (Unl) and (Homebrew)? I mean, all aftermarket games are unlicensed, and without a license and current and maintained market, aren't all further developments just homebrews by enthusiasts?
>Also, what's even the difference (or need) between (Unl) and (Homebrew)
(Unl) keeps it more consistent with romdumps using three letter abbreviations for regions. Guessing it's also because you did have unlicensed games that weren't homebrew most notably Atari when they'd release unlicensed games on the NES under the Tengen name.
Oh, thanks! So (Homebrew) is more of a clarification than a category. I'm not making the conventions, but I think (Aftermarket), logically speaking, already denotes (Unl), whereas the latter should be used to unlicensed games released *during* the platform's shelf life.
>but I think (Aftermarket), logically speaking, already denotes (Unl)
There have been cases of officially licensed games that never came out for whatever reason during the console's lifespan eventually getting a release. About a year or two ago that happened with the Genesis port of Jim Power.
Living and learning. How should I name a complete game that's a romhack of another one? I'm thinking of "A Plumber for All Seasons", romhack of "Super Mario World". Normally, I add that info between brackets, like this: "Game A (Region) [H+Uncensored v1.0]", the "H" standing for "hack". But I think it's a little bit weird for games that aren't just a modification, but a full-blown title based on another one, kind of like a spin-off using the same game engine.
The short answer is that No-Intro is becoming a serious headache with these tags.

That's about it.
I am old enough to remember when No-Intro was created to provide a curated and verified database of cartridge ROM dumps, as an alternative to Cowering's GoodTools which was listing every single existing ROM variants to please ROM hoarders. Looks the initial goals have long been forgotten and no-intro just became yet another goodxxx
It happens. Goes like this, in many things in life: problem exists > first solution arrives > seems good > time passes, and people mess around too much with the solution, until issues arise > second solution arrives > ok, now everything's alright > time passes, and people forget the problems of the past > with their memories wiped clean, they repeat the same mistakes, needing a third solution and things will go like this in a seemingly-endless cycle.
booba
Finished it. Found it too easy and sadly, it feel more like a exploration run and gun game than a metroidvania. Still, it was a fun game.
I hope the dev decides to do more with the Genesis engine, because would be neat to see a new game with a bit more of a Super Metroid/Aliens Infestation kinda exploration feel to it.
