There will never be a "year of the linux" till the fricking dev communities work together to make things easier for the everyday person. But extensive enough for advance users who don't need to sit in a terminal all day.
And making it easier to install & migrate off windows.

Do you seriously think loonix cucks know anything about computers? They are probably part of a massive botnet already and they don't even know, and actually that would explain the bot replies.
At least Windows eventually patches things out with an update for Defender, but on Linux you don't get that because they don't run any antivirus.

he's right, majority of games have a bad support of linux systems and you need to wait for the community to find a fix for it, arma 3 for exemple can "run" on linux but you get crashes, constant low fps, memory leak issues (as if the game engine having one wasn't enough) and other troubles that simply don't exist on windows.
if gamedevs actually bothered with linux you would never have this kind of problem and everyone would have already switched to it

I find funny that gaming in linux improved thanks to big players like Valve, while normal linux devs with their giant egos feels too comfortable being stagnant for years based on "why would you want that?".
I swear every open-source project is like this. I remember a gnome dev being a b***h about some accessibility changes, and the lead dev of Godot not wanting to implement a better renderer because he's happy with linked lists and jittery pixels.

It's subjective. Even the definition of the "best" is subjective, for some people the "just werks" distro is the best, for others the customization is important.

Debian. But do not download it on a Macbook since the trackpad will not work, and compared to ubuntu/mint it will not be able to find your wifi card. Ubuntu, Mint and Fedora is best on Macbook (Fedora is kind of weird because you have to download rpmfree and nonrpmfree repos to get internet). On a desktop, I would 100% use Linux Mint, but Gnome trackpad gestures are a must for laptop usage.

Arch+KDE Plasma is the one Valve themselves chose for the Steam Deck. Arch gives you up-to-date software, easy to install gayming utilities and KDE is the most mature Windows interface clone (that is until win11 became a KDE ripoff). Only disadvantage is that initial installation requires the terminal and to setup all the various essential utilities, for that reason a lot of people recommend EndeavourOS for newbies which is pretty much a pre-configured Arch installation with graphical installation and other goodies. Manjaro is another newbie-friendly Arch distro that's been quite popular but due to the devs' moronation it has gotten quite a bad rep among devs and users alike.

The webm demonstrates how the average user would install firefox on their respective operating system. Tell me how many people you saw use wget or ftp to download firefox.
Also, the linux system has chromium already installed so your windows has a pre-installed browser excuse doesn't count.

              Disingenuous bullshit.
Knowing how to install from terminal implies knowing all needed commands, which are arbitrary, you can't just guess them from intuition.
Meanwhile a fricking caveman could understand clicking on pictures (icons) almost entirely intuitively.
Terminal gays need to give up, GUI icon based systems have won for a reason.

Again, the mouse is very intuitively designed, anyone can pick it up and understand all its basic functions within minutes.
You rest you hand on it and you immediately notice it controls the cursor.
There are two buttons on it and anyone can understand, then, the idea of clicking on things.

Terminal is simply too powerful instrument to give up on it. Powershell exists for a reason.

Linux distros are not end customer commercial product. You CAN run games on it, it wont guarantee you it WILL run games. In fact, it won't guarantee you anything. If gaming is your primary hobby, or god forbid career and you are sensitive to release timelines and/or multiplayer availability do not use linux for it. Simple as.

There are end customer commercial distros, it's just that wintoddlers always steal their windows, so they don't consider paying for actual quality support.

        >There are end customer commercial distros
And they are focused on providing consistent documented environments for development and server deployments. SteamOS could be considered gaming focused commercial distro but its infancy tier product at the moment.

      Anonymous

SteamOS is a commercial product focused on game compatibility and performance. All improvements made to SteamOS eventually become available downstream.

        Anonymous

Theres too much commercial interest in kernel level anticheats to make everything downstream compatible. SteamOS may have to introduce some kind of proprietary tech, that linux as a whole will reject.

I would agree with Loonix gays if using Loonix had any benefits.
Performance vs unbloated Windows is worse, compatibility is not perfect, HDR is broken, nvidia was broken until a literal week ago, no RTX HDR for upconverting SDR, no DLSS framegen for a free 2x fps boost.
All Loonix really gives you is better CPU bound performance vs bloated default Win11.
If you use it for ideological reasons it's fine but from usability perspective it's inferior for desktop use. When they fix issues and get feature parity a lot more people would switch. They can't even bring Wayland to work as well as X11 and Windows DWM after ten years.

For me personally dynamic tiling is a superior desktop experience than windows. Also setting up development environments in linux is much nicer. I do recognize thats not why majority will switch though and im fine with it.

Driver 555 added explicit sync which fixed a lot of issues so there's hope it'll become better sooner rather than later.

100% of hardcore overclockers are on Windows. Tuning memory and hardware mods filter Linux gays hard. Linux is favored in some circles where it makes deployment and setting up a work environment easier. Choosing either OS is based on preferences and use case, it has nothing to do with how smart you are. The smartest people in academia and rich businessman use iPhones with all default settings and apps because they don't care.

Linux just assumes you want to deal with optimization of the OS. Normies are probably better off not messing with it due to how easy it is to mess your installation up. It's much much easier now to maintain, but still you gotta be comfortable messing with things to get everything running in a state that's def superior to windows operation. More accountability but better performance and usability.

Do Linuxgays realize that power users on Windows use Powershell? Almost all Linux users are power users because a normie doesn't know how to install an aftermarket OS to get Linux on their computer in the first place.

I'll let you in on a little secret.
Most linux distros are extremely vulnerable to botnets and spyware but they are so dumb they don't even know.
Modern viruses don't bother making the desktop look weird or move your stuff around, they care more about sending DDOS attacks, spam or data harvesting, and the funny thing is that probably 80% of linux users ITT have some sort of malware already, it's sad but just thinking about it is too funny.

isn't linux "safer" because it's a case of less people using it?

              Anonymous

it depends which Linux we're talking about. i would conjecture that both the most secure os and the most vulnerable os are probably linux distros

              Anonymous

it's not safer, it's just not reported as much because people either will not notice they have been infected or will refuse to tell because their narrative is Linux=Best.
That's also why most linux viruses don't bother with ransomware or other things like that since linux users are either poor as frick or are just playing around with it, but they do exist.
The most popular viruses on linux are botnets that go undetected forever.

                >I doubt any big corporations use linux anyway.
There are a lot of linux distros that are corporate owned and cost money and/or a subscription, like RedHat Linux for example. Most virtualization environments run some flavor of proprietary linux software and that's where the most hardcore viruses are.

its funny because most of linux's recent advancements in game compatibility are solely because of valve trying to support the OS.

Linux gaming is a huge uphill battle, but gay ben also realizes that it's the only option they have if Valve wants to stay independent. Their whole push for Linux gaming started when MS was testing the waters with Windows versions that would only run Windows Store apps, and although they had to back down it's obvious that MS would love nothing more than to make it reality.

Yes. If you use any OS in China other than their approved Windows you get your social credit score reduced, and possibly much worse.

Every time there is a spike in Chinese users in the Steam Survey it is a spike in Windows use.

Ever noticed how the Linux share in the Steam survey gets smaller when the chink numbers increase and vice versa? All of them are on Windows.

              >isn't linux "safer" because it's a case of less people using it?
No, the majority of end-user OSes on the planet are Linux based today.
Linux has also entirely taken over the high-value target segments.

Linux and other free UNIX-like systems are simply more secure.
Which is why they are now over 70% of the entire market.

it depends which Linux we're talking about. i would conjecture that both the most secure os and the most vulnerable os are probably linux distros

              >the most secure os and the most vulnerable os are probably linux distros
Almost certainly true, but only because there are some Linux distros which are intentionally insecure for security testing purposes.

This might be correct but is also wrong. The majority of servers that are facing the outside internet are usually Linux because they are lighter to run and usually just need to do a couple of tasks, so closing them down is much easier.
But once inside the enterprise, the majority of servers are Windows because they have to run email clients, exchange , sharepoint, authentication, active directory, group policy, etc. All of those are on the Windows side of things, also the machines that are given to employees and CEOs, etc are Windows. The ones used for coding and development are a mix between Macs, Linux and Windows.

                >once inside the enterprise, the majority of servers are Windows
LOL, is it 1998? That hasn't been true for most enterprises in decades.
Even Microsoft's own infrastructure now runs on their Linux cloud servers.

                >also the machines that are given to employees and CEOs,
Not sure about what company you work for, but C-suite people all get Macs.
They might issue bargain basement Windows systems to employees, bolstering Windows user figures up to 28%, but increasingly people work on their own systems because Windows is so ass-backwards for getting anything done.

Not everything works perfectly on Linux, not everything works perfectly on Windows either. Frick ups appears in both operating systems for an absolutely multitude of reasons

The above is not the same as nothing working on Linux or on Windows.

You don't need programming knowledge to use Linux.

Depending on which distro you pick you will rarely touch the terminal

MS has done really well with their staggered updates approach. Since they only draft a tiny amount of users to test their new patches before rolling them out to everyone, the amount of victims when something goes horribly wrong is also small, and most people will even believe it's user error because they didn't encounter the same problem.

      Absolutely wrong

Linux being popular helps everyone using Linux.
      Native softwares
Software companies no longer treating the userbase as we have leprosy
