>No usable WMs that aren't Sway
If it wasn't my only path forward to making my Oculus Rift even vaguely usable without relying on Metashit I probably would not be using Wayland.
I would try it more if I could get QT apps to scale in Walyand like they do in X11
Wayland QT seems to ignore my .profile env vars that work just fine on X11 🙁
Not endless legend.
Shit just refuses to start no matter what. If i run it via pure wine it starts but crashes at the loading screen unable to find steam api. If i run it through steam proton it won't start at all, not even a record in the log.
Tried 32 bit, no difference. Tried all the various keys, different proton versions.
Bg trilogy won't even start too.
And this game ran well on the exact same pc when it was windows 7.
In getting more and more tired of this. Not a single game just works, there are no built in workarounds for each game, you have to dedicate at least half an hour beforehand to find out why game won't start in your particular case and what you should do if you even can.
Mint latest, i already played through planescape, new vegas and age of wonders 3 on it, currently treating through early stages of morrowind. There's really no way to tell if a game will work or not, what a shame.
Are you checking out protondb or winehq for workarounds?
Also why are you using Mint, most necessary important updates are like years behind compared to a rolling release distro, which can affect compatibility with games.
>have you checked out
Yes. >why are you using mint
It works, im not Ganker tard to distrohop in pursuit of whatever. It runs well even on my not so modern pc. I don't care if it's not latest software.
Did you start it with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% or what log are you talking about? Steam itself sometimes shits out some info if you start it from the console.
I don't use controllers very often so I haven't had that issue, but there's this small Python script which should help you.

Anon please, I'm mostly a windows user but this is just not true. Unless your definition of computing is consuming fotm triple aids games and using platform locked solutions like adobe, there's not much that windows does better. If anything, systems offer more or less the same experience.
Don't run random shit from the internet and you should be fine. If you want to mod games or use tenscent spyware games from the epigstore try running everything through bottles or firejail.
I'm not moronic anon, I know about OBS' replay buffer and use it all the time. That doesn't change the fact every team green user on Linux has switched to gpu-screen-recorder because it's just fricking better.
i heard amd was better on linux and was thinking of upgrading to a 7900XTX but saw there were issues. so i just went with nvidia again, works great ootb
But I am the Linux user base, and I was born male and identify as male. Your straw man doesn't matter to me. Cope however you'd like but I'm not using Windows.
>pride flag on the start menu every pride month
what
What the frick is a pride month, some american thing? And you are joking with whatever flag, right? I heard about some israeli symbols in the windows start bar or whatever, but I thought this was /misc/ trolling. Now I'm not so sure anymore.
So do I.
I remember when I tried Linux for the first time in 2010 I found KDE 4 to be the most unusable piece of shit ever and refused to even consider it for years.
Then I tried KDE5 like four years ago and been a happy camper since then. The jump they've made with that is insane.
I tried to play Melty Blood AACC, but the launcher doesn't want to recognize all the buttons on my stick. Can't get the dpad to work on my controller either, so I just said frick it. Although maybe I should try launching it through steam.
NOTHING!!!!
>Linux
>Gaming
Dying Light on my main PC and pic related in bed on my Deck
Yes
>no game title, just "pic related"
>no pic
You done goofed.
What game?
Star Ocean 6 at 30fps max settings
When I run out of RAM the oom-killer takes Xorg down with it.
>When I run out of RAM the oom-killer takes Xorg down with it.
specs?
R5 3600 / 5500XT 16GB RAM Arch
It doesn't run smoothly at 60fps even on lowest settings, but max settings 30fps is smooth.
There's probably a Proton bug that causes excessive CPU load, it pegs one thread at 100% at all times.
>arch/amd gpu
>uses xorg
take the waylandpill anon, it just works
kys waytroony
>yea haha don't use wayland it justs works haha *wink* *wink*
since the latests amd drivers on windows, well linux is once again behind the others
amdgpu gets pretty frequent updates if you follow along the latest kernel
>No usable WMs that aren't Sway
If it wasn't my only path forward to making my Oculus Rift even vaguely usable without relying on Metashit I probably would not be using Wayland.
sway is literally perect though
I would try it more if I could get QT apps to scale in Walyand like they do in X11

I was playing Plutonium T6 zombies with my friends and we spent AGES on the george romero map trying to get a fricking easter egg.
Super Mario 64
Just been playing RE2 Remake and Rocksmith lately.
>they fell for the linux meme
I mean, Linux is indeed a piece of shit but I don't see myself going back to Windows and Apple is for literal homosexuals.
I miss Windows XP.
I liked windows 7 more but xp was also really good.
Nah 7 was already bloated. XP was the peak, but the hardware advanced too fast for it still being reliable.
You don't look like that and you never will.
No one asked.
Shakedown: Hawaii
It wasn't all that good honestly.

Wait im moronic. I'm gonna pirate it just then. Frick in getting too used to gabe services
What distro are you using?

Rain World Downpour.
It's amazing.
Anyone by chance know how to make controllers inhibit xscreensaver? Do I have to frick around with some esoteric udev stuff? Happens on any DE.
I don't use controllers very often so I haven't had that issue, but there's this small Python script which should help you.
https://github.com/foresto/joystickwake
nice, that's exactly what I need, thank you
the poo[rly] coded windows emulator
Linux is an OS made mostly for servers and embedded systems, it is inferior to Windows in everything related to desktop computing.
Ironically, Linux have a good bunch of DE which are better than window's desktops.
ok rajesh
Anon please, I'm mostly a windows user but this is just not true. Unless your definition of computing is consuming fotm triple aids games and using platform locked solutions like adobe, there's not much that windows does better. If anything, systems offer more or less the same experience.
>linux is a not OS
The only time I ever used Linux in a server role was a samba server
>I grew up using windows and I don't want to learn anything else
doki doki literature club
Should I install some kind of antivirus? I've using this shit for two years with just a firewall and nothing happened, I'm asling just in case.
If you have to ask then probably. I don't remember when was the last time i caught anything in the web. Maybe it was late 00s
Don't run random shit from the internet and you should be fine. If you want to mod games or use tenscent spyware games from the epigstore try running everything through bottles or firejail.
wtf amdbros I thought we had the best driver experience on linux...
Hardware encoding with VAAPI has just werked for me for years in OBS so I have idea what he's talking about.
What application is that even?
gpu-screen-recorder.
Only the best just werks shadowplay equivalent on linux right now.
the frick is shadowplay?
nvidia's thing where you can save the last 60 seconds or w/e as a video file
OBS can do that just fine
Shadowplay is more efficient, since it does less frame transfers between CPU<->GPU.
Open OBS and press this button
I'm not moronic anon, I know about OBS' replay buffer and use it all the time. That doesn't change the fact every team green user on Linux has switched to gpu-screen-recorder because it's just fricking better.
Well damn I guess I am the moron.
i heard amd was better on linux and was thinking of upgrading to a 7900XTX but saw there were issues. so i just went with nvidia again, works great ootb
Doom Eternal
The Division 2
and Deep Rock Galactic to relax.
>Linux Gaming Thread
i'm not trans
No one asked, but neither am I.
If I were trans then I'd probably use Windows for the pride flag on the start menu every pride month.
That's not real.
Is it?
Probably depends on the Windows version, but the point is Windows supports trans rights. Use Windows to show your support you bigot.
you can turn off any start menu popup
but you can't turn off the linux userbase
But I am the Linux user base, and I was born male and identify as male. Your straw man doesn't matter to me. Cope however you'd like but I'm not using Windows.

You know how all the corporations change their logos to rainbow colors in their social media profile pictures every June? No? Well they do.
Rapelay, I played it in a VM tho
>Getting a new computer.
>Have to take a pre-built for accounting/tax write-off reasons
>The one I chose has a 3070 Ti
>Will be a Linux gaming machine
Yay or nay?
I would say yay, nvidia's drivers are not that bad anymore and they're SLOWLY opening them up.
i had a good experience on my 3090 except when nvidia broke specific games with bad drivers
i freaking love kde
So do I.
I remember when I tried Linux for the first time in 2010 I found KDE 4 to be the most unusable piece of shit ever and refused to even consider it for years.

4 felt like a prototype for 5. it was 5's longhorn pretty much.
it's funny that it manages to be more consistent than win10/11
I tried to play Melty Blood AACC, but the launcher doesn't want to recognize all the buttons on my stick. Can't get the dpad to work on my controller either, so I just said frick it. Although maybe I should try launching it through steam.
