>Literally no achievements, easter eggs, or bonus for doing it
>Countless boomers attempt it anyway even reverting back to checkpoint if one dies

Why? Why did so many people try to save the marines when playing Halo?

    Achievements are gay.

this. I almost think achievements were a cost-effective way of tracking what players do or do not do. This is public information that gamedev companies use to make more money in the future by focusing on what most players are interested in and cutting what they are not.

I don't think so, because the achievements created artificial interest by offering badges they could show off on their profile. It doesn't measure interest well because it's the same reward regardless of what the goal was, so people could suddenly be interested in a variety of goals because they all offered a similar badge.

          Just make the cheevos invisible.
Of course the smart thing to do would be to just silently track it without awarding anything.

I'm sure some devs claimed that was their intention with achievements but achievement prostitutes ruined that.

Never even heard of this. I just play and try to keep them around but if they die, oh well. No idea how annoying this level is trying to do it on foot.

I don't care. Didn't even bother trying the achievement to keep all the ones alive in halo CEA

I like to keep the grunts alive.

They're the only likable friendly npc in any fps game ever. Outside of CE they're not half bad at fighting and can do some serious work if you keep the enemy distracted. It also helps to give them better weapons. I only play on legendary and this stills remains true.

I liked hearing them cheer and would try to preserve them, run in front of them, redirect Covie fire at me instead, etc. Technically no big deal if they died and I wouldn’t go out of my way to restart, but it was a cool feeling to get a headcount and see that you’re either alone with one or two marines left to back you up or see that you have two whole squads steamrolling with you
The moments I did restart were out of curiosity to see how many I can walk away with in what’s supposed to be a path accounting only for the player

Not everyone did this, also it's called having fun and role-playing.

It's fun to try to keep them alive, pretty obsessive to reload checkpoints if one dies though. It's fun to have a secondary objective of protecting the average joe soldiers, like how people would always try to save that one NPC that gets killed in close quarters in every COD campaign. Makes you feel like you're real master chief instead of a dorito eating moron who can operate a controller (i.e. me, you)

Halo made me super immerse myself in the world so i felt for the soldiers in some way. Funny you mention it because i never heard others doing this prior to your thread.

Nothing felt sweeter. Loved giving a rocket launcher or fuel rod to the passenger marine in a warthog and watching them go apeshit with it.

The quintessential Halo experience is driving a warthog loaded up with marine bros, especially if the dude in the side has a SPNKR or fuel rod gun
