Yeah it's inconsistent. That's the problem with these types of games where they try to have a bunch of different mini stories instead of just focusing on good core gameplay.
That's something I really enjoy about it, personally. Yeah, it has a chapter or two I'm not crazy about but at the same time it has several that I love. And I've been in the threads, the opinions on the chapters vary wildly, so it does genuinely have something for everybody.
Great game, still one of my favorites all these years later. Thought I'd hate it, but the remake reawakened my love for it via damn good VA work (in both languages, surprisingly) and looking pretty nice overall.
>the opinions on the chapters vary wildly
I feel like China and Feudal Japan are generally well received while Near Future is probably the most contentious of the eras. I don't care for how convoluted the Japan chapter is myself, especially since the most fun way to play is to ignore both extreme challenges the game pushes you towards and to just kill whoever gets in your way while making sure to spare the women. Pacifist is absolutely not worth the effort and Genocide is a chore.
It's much more common on the extremes, for sure. Distant Future and Present Day are almost entirely opposed to each other in design philosophy so those get the brunt of it. Plus the random encounters in Medieval/Final can get pretty annoying if you aren't sure where to go, so that's pretty common. 100% Agreed on that chapter. I'll get Orobo because he's an absolute bro and I love him but outside of that the swords just aren't worth it, even if I hate doing the Key dungeon for the equivalent sword. I probably wanted the levels anyway. Medicine Box is way too good to pass up on the other hand.
Let me guess, you rescued the Prisoner?
Rookie mistake. The fact you got the rest (especially everything involving Orobo) is impressive, though. That's where I can guarantee 80% of blind pacifist runs end since there's just a raw failstate that you'd never know in not killing all of Gennai's toys.
how do you get the coins to learn the secret moves anyway?
is there a way to farm them?

They're in specific chests throughout the castle, so what you gotta do is go around and collect them all, and then release that one guy from the prison who refreshes all chests that you have already opened, and that's I believe all you'll get. I think you MIGHT get some for killing merchants which isn't even available in the pacifist route, but I'm not quite sure.
The Key Dungeon sword is even better if I'm not mistaken, so I felt kind of cheated by the time I got it when the pacifist sword is such a meager upgrade over the other "ultimate" sword of that that chapter.
The only real reason I could see for doing pacifist is if you really want to skip the key dungeon, which to be fair it's easily the worst dungeon in the final chapter.
Distant Past is fine, it's just that the period between Beru being kidnapped and the final boss feels too padded out with random encounters. The rest of it is great though, just wish you got more time with Beru on the team.
Near Future is just padded out in general and feels like the most grindy era. Also the item crafting mechanic sucks.

Not sure how it is in the remake but in the original if you actually do level up Bel she learns maybe the most broken skill in the game beside hurricane shot.
Did SE lifted their draconian streaming guidelines for this game? Just a few days ago Subaru streamed Oersted 's chapter finale, something every single previous streamer was forced to censor.

Logically Sundown is the best choice since having him join your party the normal way is more annoying then any other party member but I like Lei, she's really well rounded which allows her to deal with stuff on her own until you form a full party and it lets you begin to work earlier toward getting her ultimate move.
I played the SNES version for a couple hours, it was the ninja chapter and it sucked pretty bad, felt like an indie game before indie games even existed. Is the rest of the game any better? Thinking about getting the remake.
play the demo if you got a legit switch
pirate it if you got a hacked one or a decent pc
I found it to be pretty good, but some chapters do leave a bad first impression
Only kino part was the cube's segment; everything else sucks. The "remake" also sucked ass. Fucking scam that butchered many music tracks and added that godawful voice acting.
>kino
It's a fucking movie term retard. Use proper language.
Yep, it's ludokino
gothic atmosphere?
Kino is made up bullshit from Ganker, actually.
The distant past and near future parts weren't very good. Basically the game gets worse whenever it leans more into being a more traditional jrpg.
>getting filtered by /m/kino
Near future is one of the best just for the battle theme alone.

I thought I would fucking loathe the china chapter
ended up being my second favorite
couldn't care less for modern day tho

You mean far future, that's the one that fucking sucks

>tfw I spent the most time on the shinobi era, and fucked up my blind pacifist run on literally the last step without knowing it

Yep, probably the only thing i'd say is bullshit
the rest is easily avoidable if you use the save slots sparingly
Not sure how it is in the remake but in the original if you actually do level up Bel she learns maybe the most broken skill in the game beside hurricane shot.
It's been toned down a bit but yeah it's still a very good skill in the remake.

Yeah they lifted it some weeks ago
near future was fine for me
caveman was fun mostly because of the dumbass retarded voice acting
but was weaker in combat
Is this a sequel to Kill A Kill?
anyone got the ost for this on youtube?
nice
Look for the channel "Lei Kugo"
