It took them many months to figure out how to transfer between an app they developed and a game they developed and they still fricked up Spinda and Shedinja
But how long has said file remained the same? No earlier than gen 3 I'd imagine, as that's when DVs and Stat XP became IVs and EVs.
Sure, DVs are simple enough to double/halve (that's why Leon's Charizard has 30 IVs instead of 31) but good luck with properly converting Stat XP to EVs again let alone the other way around.
EVs have a global cap while Stat Exp didn't. So for most mons that'd you want to send over, you'll have two full stats and four at ~rental if you go raw. This leaves one of two scenarios: >No way to have a fully ground mon (65535 Stat Exp = 252 EV) >A lot of excess EVs to manage before transfer (65535 Stat Exp = 510/6 or 85 EV)
You can do it in 5 seconds with PKHex
I've done it many times, gamefreak is just lazy as frick
Can't wait for the inevitable "we are shutting down pokémon home because reasons" moment
Well you can easily and directly use a VC RBY/GSC save file from a 3DS with an N64 emulator and load it up in the Stadium games without a single issue. HOME supports those games and takes Pokemon from them, so...
That doesn't even sound that bad considering gen 1 movesets.
Kabutops didn't learn rock slide in gen 1 for some god awful reason.
Take down and submission are still two 80BP moves going off kabutop's 115 attack. And looking it up, the last move is hydro pump, which isn't the worst either.
Better then fricking omastar who's got withdraw and leer.
They really are just releasing Nintendo 64 games with no regard for larger features of them, just like how you can't save ghost data for Mario Kart 64.
hahahahaha I've been telling you frickers since people the fricking Wii eShop that Stadium without the ability to plug in the games is fricking worthless.
You guys seriously expect the Stadium games, games that only connected to the first two gens, to connect to Pokemon Home, a piece of software that stores Pokemon from gens 8 and above?
What they should've done is announced they're also bringing Gameboy games to Nintendo Switch Online including the first two gens of Pokemon, and say your saved progress will connect to the Stadium games.
There's a difference, they permanently change to a gen 7 format, (hell, their entire stat spread changes because gens 1 and 2 calculated IVs and EVs completely different than gens 3 and above,) and all of the things like Pokemon species and moves that existed in gens 1 and 2 still existed in the games after that so they were able to just leave it the same.
If they made Home connect to Stadium, they would have to recode the entire game to recognize something besides the different games that were in the first two gens, implement a system like the Time Capsule in gen 2 where it blocks any Pokemon or moves that were created afterwards, and have to do a reverse of the kinda math that Poke Transporter does to convert the stats of each Pokemon to a valid gen 1 and 2 spread.
It's different cuz Poke Transporter is taking something out from something old and putting it in something new. In this case you'd have to recode the entirety of something old to take something new. Why the hell would they do that?
Doing it backwards is not the same as doing it forwards. There's a reason backwards compatibility is so fluctuant on say the PlayStation series of consoles.
You are aware that the gen 8+ data structure contains significantly more information than the gen 2 data structure, yes?
That data would be erased. There is no way around this. It would cease to exist.
>there is no way around this
Because it’s not like you could just make a copy of data instead of using it directly, right? Or just not edit the data at all since the main modes only use the Pokemon in battles and don’t edit them at all, right?
Who the frick asked for a port anyways? Who's gonna play it when you can emulate it for free and transfer your mons, not to mention play it with a better framerate.
>waah why would anyone buy things when they could just steal them for free???
The vast majority of players don’t have this mindset, especially kids. >b-but its not ackshually stealing/its just old games/im entitled to free shit-
Doesn’t matter. Most people either don’t know about emulation, don’t care about emulation, or simply don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up emulators on a PC or Raspberry Pi when they could just press a button on their existing console to play the game like everything else without any hassle. Sure, everyone on this board could emulate Stadium just fine, but the importance of ease of use can’t be understated when it comes to the average consumer.

Kids absolutely do have this mindset, emulating on their phones is all the rage. And adults already own the games so nobody cares about them on Switch.

I don't think most people own these games anon.

Some do, but the ones who do are so far ahead of he curve with regards to what they do on their phones (a mate's daughter jailbroke, re-wrote her phone's OS, personalised the encryptions and generally fricked about with it to the point that only she can wake the phone up to screensaver, much less open the phone to access it) that hearing /vp/ drones claim they just emulate pokémon's fricking moronic. They're streaming current content and robbing modern games to play, if they're at it.

Dude, emulation is no rocket science. You just have to get the rom, get Dolphin and open the rom with Dolphin. No need to set up anything else (maybe just the controls but that's it) unless you want things like higher resolution or faster framerate.
>change Stadium’s “read transfer pak” button to “read Home account” button >create fake RBY save data based on compatible Home mons >convert gen 8 stats to gen 1 equivalents >done
But that would require time and effort, so it won’t happen.
would be pretty easy honestly.
just set stat exp to max because there's no reason not to max your stats, and only accept mons with moves that exist in gen 1.
if you need mons like that you can just play virtual console rby and transfer them up.
Its as simple as having a system in Home that allows you to make teams for Stadium and having Home manually edit the save data of Stadium so that the teams you put together are in the saved team section. They don't even have to program it so that Stadium reads Home as RBYGSC, just have Home edit the save data of Stadium.
Hold up. You can still plug the transfer pak into the USB N64 controllers they made, right? So unless they actually recoded the game to remove communication functionality, which seems like something Nintendo wouldn't bother doing, doesn't that mean that you could still connect with a real cartridge provided you have the equipment?
>Tfw still have my N64 >Tfw still have both games >Tfw still have on copy of every mainline Gen I/II game excluding Green for obvious reasons
Looks like another day of not paying for the absolute joke that is Nintendo Switch Online for me.
Who the frick asked for a port anyways? Who's gonna play it when you can emulate it for free and transfer your mons, not to mention play it with a better framerate.
Nintendo Switch/3DS dongle, plug in a cart-sized proprietary accessory to your 3DS to boot it into read mode and plug the USB into the dock to allow the Switch to scan your VC Pokémon games to select your pokémon (only those already placed in boxes, naturally)
>Allow gameboy tower to load up roms of the gameboy games shared between stadium 1 and 2 >Release the gameboy emulator we know they have complete with transfer pack data >Add Diddy Kong Racing and DK64 instead of the stadium games if they can’t be bothered to find a way to make the game playable in a meaningful way
Honestly I wouldn't even mind if they removed Game Boy tower, or removed the Doduo/Dodrio modes, because running a Gameboy emulator in an N64 emulator is kind of goofy in the first place. The actual Transfer compatibility is fricking required, though. Releasing Stadium without transfer pak compatibility is like selling a new camper with no wheels, and the tire rod is tied into a bow and welded to the frame. You can still use it, but at that point why bother?
Dude, emulation is no rocket science. You just have to get the rom, get Dolphin and open the rom with Dolphin. No need to set up anything else (maybe just the controls but that's it) unless you want things like higher resolution or faster framerate.
>dolphin
You basically proved his point, that's the wrong emulator for N64.
Real men set up a dedicated PC with Batocera with autistically configured CRT shaders and do all their emulation through there. Using USB converters with the original controllers of each system, obviously.
Sell transfer pack to attach to Switch N64 controller.
People connect the original games to said pack and play with their original mons.
Move Poké Transporter code to Switch.
Finally connect the original games to current generation via one way transport.
Great point! And guess what also can't be connected to the switch? We are more likely to eventually get a game boy expansion pass then what you were proposing, brainlet. You really think Nintendo is going to make it possible for your VC Pokemon game to transfer data to your switch? Dream on.

Hey moron, look at the post I was originally responding to. I wasn't suggesting that they'd ever do that, I was saying exactly the opposite, that even [this realistic thing that still isn't going to happen] is more likely to happen than Nintendo releasing a fricking Transfer Pak that hooks to the Switch N64 controller (that doesn't even have an expansion port on the back) that you can plug 25 year old, +$50 Game Boy games (that they also don't sell anymore) into.
>sell a connection device for a modern piece of hardware that is only used to make it compatible with an almost 30 year old video game that hasn’t been produced in decades, the majority of copies of which won’t work anymore without third party modifications if at all and retail for hundreds of dollars
Anon are you fricking stupid
It's actually unbelievable, I feel sorry for them and wish I could fly to their house and force them to have a proper setup to enjoy these games. They miss out on proper emulation, pay actual money to a lazy company to deliver them shitty scraps with inaccurate emulation and removed features, then go online and defend that company for free.
Their only response to this? "Emulation is illegal". Fricking A.
I’m glad they’re not allowing transfers. The game would just be filled with Zacians, Kyogres, Groundons and Spectriers. It’s a classic game coming back for fun, people just need to let it be.
So how the frick are we supposed to play
Rentals only, please understand.
Rentals duh
What, you want to play with the pokemon you OWN? That's not a sign of happiness.
Bold of you to assume you can own pokémon anyway.
In the era of dexcut and paid home subcsriptions, you cannot say you own your collection.
As cryptobros say: Not your keys, not your coins.
You can beat the game with rentals
Unlike the wii game, you can beat it at the beginning but you won't get very far
>dump save
>load up pkhex
>transfer mon to any game I want
hacked switch bros we always winning
Why do you want to take the shitty rentals?
morons
Do you even know how Stadium works ?
What are you talking about? What does this have to do with stadium?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The Pokemon Home developers deadass said "we can't figure this one out"
It took them many months to figure out how to transfer between an app they developed and a game they developed and they still fricked up Spinda and Shedinja
>And Shedinja
I know how they fricked up Spinda, but what happened with Shedinja?
https://nintendosoup.com/newly-discovered-pokemon-home-bug-may-erase-players-ninjask-shedinja/
The anti-cloning marks Shedinja as a clone.
Sorry, I mean Nincada. Nincada can't be put into BDSP from Home presumably due to conflicting ID values due to the dupe checker in bdsp
>they still fricked up Spinda and Shedinja
Spinda is at least not on them. That's on ICLA.
Shedinja though is 100% on GameFreak.
This didn't happen because Stadium 1 is already perfectly compatible with Home.
oh shit
Emulators can do this, wtf Nintendo
>Emulators can do this
Not with HOME
Retrofitting can be really asinine for stuff like this, especially for a pre-Fairy game
>especially for a pre-Fairy game
Types aren't stored in the Pokemon data file.

No they're not.
They are, that's why missingno retained it's typing.
Types aren't stored with the Pokemon itself, only its species.

Don't the rental Pokemon in the Stadium games have shitty stats?
Yes.
You can beat Round 1 with them, but 2 it's almost impossible.
Round 2 is hard, but doable. Stadium 2 (Round 1) is harder with rentals than Stadium 1 (Round 2).
It was my first pokémon game. I always played rentals only.
It was extremely hard but you can beat it.
Actually great if you want a challenge.
Shitty stats, not really.
Now movesets on the other hand...
How does a Kabutops with Swords Dance, Submission, and Take Down sound?
That doesn't even sound that bad considering gen 1 movesets.

They're billing Goldeneye as "with online," but it's 100% going to just be 10fps splitscreen.
soon nintendo will add a gameboy collection for an extra $50 a year and you'll be able transfer pokemon from red and blue to stadium.
You will probably need an extra 10$ to play Red and Blue alone
How the frick are you supposed to even complete the game with just rentals? You can’t even do that in Battle Revolution
>How the frick are you supposed to even complete the game with just rentals?
It's absolutely possible. I've seen a streamer do it before.
It's not fun, but it's doable.

No
In theory yes, but it'll never happen.
No, there's no port for it.
Anyone cucked enough to actually subscribe to Nintendo's awful online deserves what they get.
But I like playing smash
I don't have a choice
imagine paying 60 dollars a year to play free games lol
No refunds

pokemon fans don't complain about getting games challenge
NSO is dogshit anyway, you'd have to be fricking moronic to pay for it just to be able to play this decades old game.
>Zoomers have to actually think
Good, frick you all
how would you dinguses have expected to transfer pokemon exactly?
Nintendo Switch/3DS dongle, plug in a cart-sized proprietary accessory to your 3DS to boot it into read mode and plug the USB into the dock to allow the Switch to scan your VC Pokémon games to select your pokémon (only those already placed in boxes, naturally)
Home data duplication
The online subscription service that allows us to transfer Pokemon from our collection, perhaps
