>wonder "What is there? What is on that mountain? What is beyond it? Is there anything underneath it? What land lies on the other end of this ocean? What kind of characters and creatures and places and secrets is this world hiding? How did this world come to be? What is its history? Where is this world heading? How will the developments in this world affect my character and the characters I know? How deep does it go?"

Elden Ring has huge adventure vibes.

Elden Ring feels AI-generated, the only thing I'd expect to find beyond its horizons are more AI-generated things. The gameplay is good, but creatively it's a very uninspired game universe that fails at creating an immersive feeling, From should just stick to gameplay.

i've noticed this with all japanese open worlds. like they try to pull off skyrim, and they're amazing at creating the physical world itself, but they're just awful at the dungeon and loot etc aspects which makes the game feel shallow. Breath of the Wild was the same way, which honestly doesn't make sense since traditional zelda dungeons and loot and such used to be the gold standard by which everything else tried to measure up to.

too true. it's not that hard to make exploration meaningful. in some ways it's harder to make it not meaningful. you have to put so much slop in a game that nothing matters. less is more with open world games.

I don't know how people find this feeling in mainstream AAA normalgay games, you know for a fact the production is too big and the target audience too ambitious for anything interesting to actually end up in the games themselves and especially in their hypothetical distant horizons, and they also have a perfect track record of not having anything interesting in them ever so it's not like you're chasing a high you already had.

Unless these are the first games you ever played or you're a normalgay yourself I guess, wonder for me comes exclusively from weird and offbeat sources. Maybe I played too many games to be impressed by these prefab worlds.

official End of Dyeus shill anon here to shill again. this game made me feel this way for the first time since playing Morrowind for the first time 9 years ago. The entire game is entirely devoted to making you explore and even has tons of puzzles that require it to be night time. other puzzles involve getting lost in a misty woods that get you easily turned around but if you complete it you get a bad ass sword.

the whole game is peak exploration. just make sure you get the starting bow that's a 1 min walk away from starting spawn in a white chest guarded by a single purple elite cultist. you need a range weapon for the game to be balanced but it's not hard if you get the early one.

oh and I pirated this game and recommend you do too so you can try before you buy.

one more quick game "Fates of Ort" that's similar but won't appeal in the same way as elder scrolls because it's isometric. it has "you move they move" combat and has a great spell system with interesting elements that all combine together in different ways for many combinations. the world and it's quests always reminded me of old school RuneScape. like actually old school not the new meme shit they put in OSRS

I own it but I haven't tried it yet. I hear it's a really good indie Metal Gear styled game though
