they were cheap, affordable, and looked nice on the shelves so mummy always bought them when we needed a player two 🙂

Because they were the most prominent third-party accessory manufacturer of the 5th and 6th gens (at least in America), and their quality was always fricking horrible. Their construction was inconsistent and cheap, and quality control for functionality was a joke. 9/10 times, their shit would either come out of the box with something not working, or would invariably get that way within a matter of weeks. But guess what? If you ever got a Gamestop branded controller in the 2000s, it was almost certainly just a rebadged Mat Catz, because MC licensed some of their accessories out to store chains for rebadging.

Except most game stores fricking hated them too, and many even got to the point of outright refusing to stock the brand, because they were getting sick of inevitably refunding the fricking things and seeing them take up so much room for used accessories.

Their controllers were notoriously shitty and often stopped working properly after a few weeks of use, or just be shit right out of the package. As kids, whenever you went over to a friend's house and you were player two, you were almost invariably going to get some monstrosity of a controller that didn't work for shit, compared to player one's good controller that came with the console that still worked great.
I couldn't tell you about their other accessories, besides that their memory cards were fine to my knowledge.

They were sold everywhere but every store hated and refused them.
        >As kids, whenever you went over to a friend's house

Wow it's like all Ganker can do is repeat word for word what the latest influencer is saying.

At least give your own story about them being shit rather than just blindly regurgitating your masters exact talking points.

What story can you tell about a shitty game controller? I played vidya with my best friend Joey. He had a Playstation 2. He had a Madcatz controller for the second port. It was shit. There's nothing worth greentexting about here.

Didn't watch the video, but the part about it being the player 2 controller, and them being shit quality was entirely true. I got several over the years and never had one come broken but they all would break eventually.

I saw that youtube gays video.
    >I ordered 50 madcats controllers and all but 5 were broken.
Bullshit, i have stacks of these things that still work fine. Maybe like 10% have broken in some way over the years. Yeah the build quality is shittier than a real one but that's why they were a third of the price.
That guy was definitely a disingenuous shill. Buy from muh heckin sponsors who charge $60 for a controller!
Also never had problems with their x4 memory cards and their multi system RF adapters were great.

I know the old company did good on fighting game controllers. Does the new one keep that up or did they let the quality slip?

Try playing Halo with an OG X-box controller, then use a knockoff controller. The analog sticks were always really bad. The buttons didn't feel as responsive.

Madcats gets most of the blame for all the crappy controllers but the were the biggest brand. I never had one not work but at least during the PS1 or PS2, they never felt right.

  9. 3 weeks ago

    cause their merchandise sucked
    all there shit would break
and back in the day they were often the only extra controller you could get for your console cause online shopping wasn't a thing, so you were at the mercy of what the local stores had in stock
so you would be stuck with this shitty generic with no real alternative that would stick and malfunction and make you crazy

My friend was just like you, really bad at games and he'd always blame the controller when I beat him. Many such cases.

Telling me to trade controllers is like telling me to trade pokemon. I've already spent massive amounts of time bonding with it so I can't simply switch. I'd have to start all over from scratch.
But from his perspective he hasn't used either before so it shouldn't matter which he uses, he simply needs to practice to git gud.

I've busted two of their microcons, the GC one I had used to shock me anytime I picked it up but the 360 one was solid for a couple years.
Performance was my ultimate controller bane because of those shitty clear N64 controllers

I played Starfox 64 with a turbo controller for years. It blew my mind when I had to play it with a regular controller, and I could both shoot faster, but I could finally use the lock-on. Never looked back.

i was going to say pic related but i guess i was wrong and this wasn't a madcatz memory card. i remember having multiple cards worth of saves imported on to it and then it just randomly erased everything on it and would continually do so every month or so when i tried it again. piece of fricking SHIT

Yes and no. The build quality was similarly shittier and the price was cheaper, but unlike Chinese ripoff stuff it was never sold with the intention of duping you into believing it was the real thing. Usually they'd add in extra features or gimmicks, like this piece of shit I had when I was younger and poor that was real excited about being smaller than your average Gamecube controller.

the controllers were always different sizes than the proper controllers my og xbox one was bigger than pizza dish sized 1st gen xbox controller while the gamecube ones were smaller than a regular gamecube controller. The N64 was just more awkwardly shaped, thing was a shovel rather than a trident.
They also had these awful rubber grip things on the controllers that were impossible to clean and were always fuzzy from setting the controller down on the carpet or couch.
    3/10 company, consistently infuriating.

  25. 3 weeks ago

sticks were bad, the buttons wore out and would stay pressed within a few months of ownership, the plastic quality was thin, bendy, and prone to shatter

Apparently they went bankrupt in 2017 and a Chinese company acquired the trademarks in 2018 and revived the brand for some reason.
