Magery

Working on a homebrew – what's a good word for magical aptitude stat? GURPS uses magery, and I've seen spellcraft, etc. All these words feel a little wonky. Do you have any better suggestions?

        He is.
You, however, aren't a man, nor you are working on anything at all, except maybe shitting up /tg/'s catalog with useless threads

Spellcraft is a good word, but if it "feels wonky" to you, then I have no idea what the frick you actually want.

It's fine for stereotypical fantasy, but I'm trying to decide on a word that conveys "magical power that isn't necessarily connected to casting spells."

A similar idea would be divine ranks in D&D.

Would "attunement" work for you? That's a personal favorite of mine.

Strength as might, int as mind and magic potential as matter.

Who says it has to be one? The way I did it is that your casting ability depends on your chosen style of casting. Talent-based casting uses Charisma, and is based on your natural ability. Learned uses intellect, and focuses on using study and practice to build up magical prowess and formulas in your magic. Primal relies on drawing on the mana within the world around you or from the gods to channel your magical power and uses Wisdom. Anyone can use any of these, and the secondary stat in calculating your attack pools is Luck.

GURPS also has Quintessence from a later supplement that acts as a catch-all trait for supernatural might, resistance, and endurance.

A less stuffy version would be simply "essence," which IMO still sounds good, better even.

"Power" is what SotDL uses and that works well enough.

Arcana. “Roll plus arcana.” “Make an arcana save”.

There”s already a naming thread, btw. Captcha: mmajv

    Pull? Influence? Drive? Linkage? Deluge?

I'll toss these out for you.
