      >GW makes Kasrkin BS4+ in Kill Team
      >community trolls say Kasrkin are worse than Scions when the fluff says Kasrkin are slightly better
      >GW makes Scions BS4+ in the latest Kill Team box
      >Kill Team community trolls now saying Scions and Kasrkin will get BS4+ in 40k
If GW actually goes through and nerfs Stormtroopers to BS4+ in 40k the Guard community is going to throw the biggest shitfit ever seen. The only reason anyone liked Stormtroopers and their variants was because of their cool BS3+.

Here's hoping the Crud doesn't frick this one up like Kill Team did.

Caparace armour, a hot-shot lasgun, and a bit of extra training still doesn't compare with a 1 ton ceramite armoured psycho-indoctrinated acid-spitting mutant cyborg killer with 2 hearts, 3 lungs, and decades or centuries of combat experience, sorry

yeah they don't compare at all

The Emperor was moronic to make Astartes immortal, especially when he knew he had to cull them after the crusade anyway.

I understand super strong, super armor, super training and super conditioning, but immortality seems like a good way of turning an expendable asset into a problem.

Are they even immortal? He needed them to live longer than Thunder Warriors, but even in the HH novels there was a Lunar Wolf who was a broken down old man.

The oldest one there is hasn't died yet, so maybe maybe not

They aren't fully immortal it's just that they age incredibly slowly it it takes around 1,000 years for a space marine to begin reaching "Middle Age" I believe the oldest space marine not in a dreadnought is a Salamander that has been in and out of stasis for 10,000 years but physically is about 3,000. Said Marine is actually significantly weakened by age. Still heads and shoulders above a human but nowhere near the strength of a full Marine. The problem with Marine aging is that they almost never live more than 300-400 years due to simply being killed in battle.

They're not immortal, they just get the longevity treatments which bump elite life expectancies up to ~400 years for free. Calling non-astartes 'mortals' is a quirk of the new heresy fluff.
I suppose you could say new spess marines age and the originals aged less.

They aren’t immortal. They get old by about 500-600, and truly ancient by 1000, but only a few are actually that long lived. Mainly Blood Angels. And they rarely get to that point because they always die in battle before reaching old age. They were created for a crusade across the galaxy that could take centuries, it would make no sense for them to have a normal human lifespan.

If you look at the early Great Crusade equipment (larger caliber bolter rounds, heavier armor like MkIII and Cataphractii) the Emperor didn't know what they would find in the wider Galaxy. The Great Crusade could have lasted for a thousand years (and it would make more sense to be honest, instead of some Primarchs only being part of the Imperium for few decades at best before the Heresy).

except big E had no intention of culling them

But it does offer an inherently less 'mythical' level of storytelling. Highly trained meatsacks can't get away with the same kind a nonsense a mutant mini-tank can.

The true imperial white pill is than the Empire has acess to as many Imperial Knights than Space Marines.

That's because making a mech is easier than making a genetically engineered human

Why don't they just give Cermite armor to a guard squadron, at least one of the right fancy ones? Works for SOB, and certain inquisitors.

Talking about how Space marines are obsolete

Spess marines are expensive, rare, politically sensitive and spiritually awkward with an infamous history of rebellion.
The mundane realities of subsector realpolitik demand a more practical supersoldier.

wait you're saying the the imperium is a rickety archaic mess that is in many ways self-defeating?

Yeah. Many characters and social classes in-setting know and can't do much about it except spawn underground movements or set up their own private armies.
          Hence Scions.
