I have only played 1 and got filtered by that awful level but I've watched everything there is to watch about the 3 games and I've read through the forums a lot. I don't pretend to be an enormous fan but it's still sad to see something old with this strange niche appeal get recycled into a FotM PvP shooter.
I played Marathon with groups on B.Net before and made many a schizopost tying it and Halo together when I was a kid
You're outraged about the wrong thing if posers are pissing you off more than Bungie pissing on the IP. Unless you're a shill, then that would make a lot of sense
>Monday night >talking about Humble Bundle with my bro >gonna buy the Capcom bundle for Dragon's Dogma >look at the Bungie slot in the spring sale and mention how pathetic it is, they only have Destiny for their 30 anniversary, can't sell Halo and haven't touched Marathon since 360 >reveals today >the monkey paw curls
Not like this...
I can still name one of the guys I played on dial up with and I have a Marathon poster on my wall.
has any other gaming franchise had such an abhorrent revival? 27 years since the last game, and they turn it into an entirely different MTX-driven genre
It's fine to enjoy it for what it is, but when you're clinging on to the bitter hope that Legacy of Kain might one day be completed, Nosgoth was an absolute slap in the face.
>be completed
Not him but I don't know why anyone who understands storytelling would need this. Legacy of Kain's story is kind of done. There's no story left, the characters and events and mysteries all came full circle. We know the history, the twists, the journeys are complete. All that is left is for Kain to slash some tentacles and for the Vorador plothole to be filled in. I really don't think that's enough meat for a new Legacy of Kain entry.

Yeah, it ended in a fairly good place and, given the current state of the industry, I think I'd much rather prefer it to remain unfinished altogether. Nonetheless, that doesn't detract from the immeasurable disappointment I felt when the series gets some attention and it's to cater to a completely different crowd.
>let's bring back an IP that the a grand majority of the kids these days have never heard of then alienate the original audience
This only works if you know how to hit a specific niche
Everyone else is just going to play the game this revival is aping off of
same happened to beyond good and evil >have a cult classic action adventure game that ends on a cliff hanger >make a gaas coop prequel >series creator ragequits the industry midway through
until ancel left i still had a shred of hope because the man has never really missed, but after his departure the game is 100% gonna be shit
Tarkovlike. It's Battle Royale except instead of killing everyone else the goal is to get to an escape point, you keep the gear you find in the game for use in the next game, and can buy stuff inbetween matches.
It's a reboot, plain and simple. I just hate they had to reuse the name without anything, a simple subtitle would do like Marathon:Reincarnated. We had Marathon infinity for Marathon3 but that was because it was the final installment and it had a map editor so it was "infinite" and not like Halo Infinite which was a live service.
tarkov etc.
you run around for 20 minutes then get shot in the back of the head, not knowing where the shot came from
you lose your current equipment upon death etc.
>You have a stash of loot >equip your character with loot and go into a PVP/PVE zone >You complete objectives and search the area for more loot to add to your stash >you leave through designated exists(yes camping and exit is a legit strat players use) >if you die you lose everything you came in with >if you escape through one of those exits you keep the gear you found and add it to your stash
Its a high risk high reward gameplay style that in basically long stretch's of nothing and then short spans of extremely intense combat as hours of progression can be wiped if you are killed. Its basically PVP survival games were distilled into a match format.
this isn't surprising. bungie has been run by out of touch literal retards for ages. the only reason people cling onto destiny is addiction so this will die instantly. pvp was always the worst part of destiny.
Not him but for me it's because of legacy reasons. People always say that you can't be doing the same thing over and over again for the same game, which while true, doesn't warrant everything to be changed about it.
But it does warrant change. If bungie wants to use their IP to explore it in a new way, I don't see how that's anyone's prerogative but their own. Marathon was fucking super far future science fiction and this looks to be in a similar vein, just with much better technology and a "plasti-future" aesthetic. They're even playing into the legacy rather than clearly just using it.
It's coasting on its legacy as a skin. Like I said, this should've been some Destiny spin-off title. I'M OK with Marathon being laid to rest and so were other Marathonfags in the 2000s.
MARATHON sounds cool though, its a name that they are clearly fond of. Destiny was originally going to be called Beyond which is gay, lol. Either way, Marathon is getting the Titanfall/Apex Legends treatment and I'm all for it.
I'm chilling, CIA. I don't feign internet hipster points by crying about how close this is to my heart. I love the franchise, and I appreciate the story for what it is. I can always play the originals.
I'm excited to see what they do with the Marathon universe here.
Based, I played the original games back in the day and a bunch of the fan stuff about a year ago, can't wait to see how this turns out
Alarmists like to panic about vaccines, which ironically is a psy-op too, much like flat Earth and other dribble. Those ones who think vaccines control minds also fail to consider the basic implication that were such tech to be in the presumed enemy's hands, the planet while isn't necessarily fucked, they certainly wouldn't need to use a virus to propagate such means.
But I digress.
It'll be F2P, these live service MP-only games need to get as many people in the doors as possible. Not sure when this releases though, I imagine no date means 12 months minimum
Never played marathon and have no idea what the expanded universe in it is, but on behalf of those screwed over by companies before, I welcome you to the club.
That was them with microsoft.
Ever since bungie went solo it's been pretty clear that they don't know how to handle themselves. Microsoft was unironically tardwrangling them like a motherfucker.
I thought Ganker was all over that Tarkov shit? I think this could possibly still be a fun game, just a shame that they’re using an IP that’s been dead for 2 decades in this way.
bro Doom and Marathon are not comparable, Doom was extremely popular and retained that popularity since 1993, 75% of the fanbase for the latter are from a Mandalore video uploaded like a year ago
>75% of the fanbase for the latter are from a Mandalore video uploaded like a year ago
That's so fucking bullshit. Marathonfags have always been there, they just got drowned out because of Halo. Also >Mandalore

The thing that made OG marathon fun was the multi-player and the schizo lore, which this reboot is obviously leaning into. The single player mode was always a middling at best experience and even normies like Mandalore didn't pretend otherwise

There are flashes of brilliance in the M1 singleplayer but they really figured it out in 2.
Never managed to play the multiplayer myself.

It wasn't really uncommon for FPS games to include dev tools on the CD. It was more or less a farewell gift on Bungie's/Double Aught part, though.

Also one thing that stood out is that it came with a bunch of video tutorials. They're interesting to watch:
Jason checked out after Alex he has been letting Pete Parsons run the show for a while now as he sits back and collects checks. Destiny 1 was the last time he really invested himself in anything and according to all accounts he lost interest in it very quickly.
>Revive the IP that had an intirguing narrative premise and has a fan forum where the trilogy's story is still being debated 29 years on >The said revival is in name only and it's now a Tarkov live service game
If this cannot convince people how morally bankrupt western AAA industry is then nothing ever will.
Same shit with a different smell happened with the 2012 Syndicate reboot EA did where they just made it an FPS with an optional co-op mode and a dubstep soundtrack. Western AAA has been morally bankrupt for a long ass time.
Most of those are reboots, though. I can kind of see the logic in doing that, since they're telling potential buyers that they don't need to worry about the existing continuity.
The industry has been in a holding pattern since the pandemic, which dont think is the primary reason it just slowed things down. The real cause is simply industry consolidation in 2018 and 2019 necessitating new blood getting proven through big projects, but not enough faith in said new blood to give them their own IP or creative freedom.
nobody but 5 posters on this board (including me) knew this series existed 2 years ago, and suddenly after some random eceleb video the entire internet knows and a shitty cashgrab sequel is made
I fucking hate normalfags so much
a lot of oldfags know about marathon
it just looked like bungie was never gonna do something with it so people just moved on
mandalore doing a video merely rekindled some of the interest, not introduced all these people to it

the videos you're talking about are less than a year old. the project is more than likely in the work since longer than that. Now reviving a decades old IP that was mainly solo campaigns with cryptic storytelling by making a multiplayer-only extraction shooter is weird bordering on the inexplicable but it's not like the entire life-cycles of massive projects from triple As studios revolves around the niche interests of an anonymous game reviewer.
You really need to be completely Ganker poisoned to believe that Mando has this kind of pull on the decision making process of studio that was bought for more than 3 fucking billions dollars by Sony
>nobody but 5 posters on this board (including me) knew this series existed 2 years ago, and suddenly after some random eceleb video the entire internet knows and a shitty cashgrab sequel is made
bro the Durandal was in the top 5 most played on Xbox live arcade during the Halo 3 days. Literally anyone who knew what Bungie.net was knows about Marathon.
Anyone over the age of 30 who gamed in the 90s knew about Marathon, anon. It's not some sekrit niche game that only the hardcore gamers knew about, what are you even talking about?
I just knew about it from the armour symbol you could use in Halo. Knew it was a precursor to Halo, and that there were nods to Marathon within Halo, but that's about it.
What's so bad about "extraction" pvp games? I played the division 1&2 and the dark zones + that snow storm mode were both pretty fun. expanding on that into a whole game could work quite well I feel
Tarkov is fun though, but the idea is beyond what BSG is capable of. Lighting, balance, recoil, servers etc is all fucked. Bungie can start from a clean slate and design things with a blueprint of what to do/not to do.
They have been shoveling people who were in charge of the destiny pvp, among other things, over to presumably this game.
It was over before it even began
Nah the map design is awful and the decisions they make or the dedicated pvp changes are all out of whack. The issues run deeper than the awful weapons balance and their hubris in not listening to the community screaming at them to balance both separately
Nevermind that they create the problem half the time, see the immortal for the most recent example. They know what they are doing, and what they are doing is wrong.
Retarded dopamine engine for subhumans and zoomers
OHHH BRO I'M SO CLOSE TO EXTRACTING WITH THIS GOOD SHIT OH BRO BRO BROOOO FUCK I DIED I WAS SO CLOSE >hops into another game >repeat
It's worse than gambling because it's subhuman dopamine junkies competing to fuck each other over
that level of reductionism is criminal, all games are based around satisfaction
are you sure you aren't mentally retarded and using the word "zoomer" to cope with such a fact?
I'm going to do the thing where you think of making a serious reply to a post only to delete it and think that you'll just be arguing with someone who won't read your post and delete your big post but I'm going to do it anyways
Zoomers and streamers can play any type of game, that doesn't necessarily mean the entire genre is "tainted" by them. The main issue with the "extraction" genre is that it's dominated by a single game, and that's Escape from Tarkov. Not even IW could dethrone Tarkov from that spot with DMZ, even though they're pumping more content into it than Warzone, which is funny.
Extraction shooters have the potential to be a very fun type of game, but they're all basing their gameplay off of a SINGULAR fucking game which is balanced like complete and total shit, and led by people who don't know how to manage a game to save their life. Tarkov should not be the shining pinnacle of the genre, even DMZ is better than Tarkov when it comes to game balance and having an actual anti-cheat.
The last extraction shooter I played that didn't feel like a lesson in masochism and ball torture was Marauders, but that game is on it's last legs because it has a total player count of a few rodents and romanians.
Tarkov has diseased the entire genre with it's bullshit.
I think Cycle Frontier's idea of having persistent servers last 6 hours, people filter in and out, is where the genre needs to go. Similar to Dark Zone in Division. The session based like 30-45 minute shit Tarkov and DMZ do is trash, you never have time to really do what you came in for if you also seek out PVP.
Also no flea/economy shit, you find stuff its for you.
To add onto this, the main guy I'm replying to isn't even that wrong when talking about extraction shooters, (he's thinking of tarkov) Battlestate actively encourages a streamer-heavy game where your average player who sits down to play the game for a couple hours instead of doing ~10 hour long streams gets destroyed, which in turn drives up game purchases because people want to experience what the streamer's doing.
Not only that, but certain streamers have straight up connections to moderators in Tarkov whom they cry to when you kill them on their stream.
https://www.altchar.com/game-news/escape-from-tarkov-player-banned-for-killing-streamer-in-game-aT6Ln8D2WsFd
Tarkov harbors an incredibly fucking shitty experience for anyone trying out the extraction shooter genre, and is full of gay streamers who cry to their moderators quickly after you kill any of them, meaning you could be playing the game, get yourself a quick kill on someone with good gear, only to find out you killed a streamer and you've just had $60 stolen from you with no hope of getting your account banned.
Add that on top of having a non-existant anticheat, and you have a game full of streamers, and chinese hackers.

I tried looking into Marathon last year because it sounds cool, but apparently there's a lot of hoops you need to jump through to get it up and running.
Is there a guide, or something?
Shan't be playing this new reboot, in any case.
Yeah, it's missing some new shit. I don't think it ships with the XBLA HUD anymore which is pretty much mandatory if you want it to look good on a widescreen monitor. Enabling 3D Perspective turns off Y-shearing too and makes the game look better.
I dunno, Mythbros, I feel pretty comfortable here in my tomb burried 6ft underground. Hopefully PitDbros are comfortable too.
I just hope they will make some Siege of Madrigal easter egg in the new Marathon. That is all.
After 11 years break I decided to finish TFL and SB campaigns on Legendary with my friend. Right now we're on Ambush at the Devil's Overlook. It is still a great game.
What a huge what-if would be if Myth II's launch was never a fuckup. Bungie would've remained an independent studio and Halo would've been far more of a Marathon spiritual successor with gameplay meant for PC.
Also pic is from a replay file from 5th of March, 2010 when we attempted The Forge on normal one last time. Almost finished it, but a Fetch killed our last troops, so Alric could not kill Soulblighter as it is a scripted sequence. It was our last and final attempt, after that we never tried to finish that mission ever again.

Just give me proper Myth 3 instead of that Mumbo Jumbo bullshit.
I wish the trans genocide they keep bitching about all the time were actually real so we could be spared the constant raping of our childhood memories. I'd expect nothing less given the current state of high-profile western devs, but why even use the Marathon brand if you're going to be making some hyper-neon fagfest out of it? Even the biggest Marathon fan in the world has moved on from these fucking games to such a degree that they wouldn't be attracted to this pile of shit based on name alone. I hope Bungie gets bullied into either dropping this or reworking it completely and also hiring only men to do it.
I have terrible news to say to you, Anon. What those games are to you, is what those trannies are to their own humanity.
They themselves, as a phenomenon, are a project of breaking spirits of other humans. It's easy to hate them and condemn them, but the reality is much worse. They're being stripped of themselves, and they're not the only ones.
I already check their artstation and they were already hired since they worked on Destiny 2 stuff. Still absolutely no way no one else applied except them.
God damn. Are literal porn whores really allowed to be senior artists on big budget projects like this?
I'm not complaing here, mind you.

Why the fuck do they get a job at Bungie? How many dick sucking or connections they have to get those jobs.
The affable nerds that worked at Bungie in the early 00s would not believe you if you told them.
>did anyone at all recognize this was Marathon
I wasn't sure until I saw the S'pht. Something about the art style is so off putting its almost like they went for the globo homo color palette.
The S'pht(How the fuck are they going to do a story for this) was a dead give away and the Bungie Logo basically confirmed it was gonna be that I feel sorry for the fools that think that this new one is somehow gonna be a good thing
Its lame to use the name but its obviously just a reference, why all the seethe? Basically the way that the studio is called bungie but is not the same one that made the original marathon
>survivors stranded >use artificial bodies to compete >Pfhor who are everywhere show up
It makes a kind of sense but I doubt it will be as good as I envision in my head in terms of tone
My friend pointed out that the symbol looks like a fucking dyson fan and now I cannot unsee it
20 fucking years I've seen that symbol, and now my brain just sees a stick and a circle
If it is so egregious that even normalfags also not interact with it, which is not looking good. Despite the years of Destiny being shit normalfags still defend that series.
It would if people actually did it. The truth is you've been conditioned into addiction to consuming short-term daily content and publishers like Sony and Microsoft have you by the balls.
lootboxes got sued out of the industry... mostly.
i still won't buy, so if one of these shit games get popular i will rest easy that i didn't contribute to them.
Sadly outside of not buying all you can do is talk about it negatively
Voting with your wallet doesn't work. For every person smart enough not to buy trash, there's a hundred dumbass whales and normalfag consumers who will buy it simply because it's marketed to them.
Entertainment media only fails these days if it isn't marketed enough, the actual quality of the product doesn't matter.
>Who the fuck asked for this? Marathon ended pretty conclusively.
Things ending is not considered normal nowadays. The current generation grew up in a world of never-ending subscription based media that always needs to keep going to eternally make more money. Something ending may be the right thing from a creative or narrative perspective, but from the financial (aka the main one) it's a bad idea.
Ummmm ackshually, there was actually some plans into making Marathon 3 and it was going to be a 3D FPS set in a medieval fantasy world like Quake but Bungie didn't like it and kept doing inside jokes about big as fuck battles happening and that's how Myth was born. There is only one surviving asset of Marathon 3 and it's a 3D render of Durandal.
I only played 1 and its expansion game, whatever it's called, but sure. Crysis games are all around solid games. Unsure about multiplayer, though. It's fun, to me at least, but I'm not sure if it's still alive. There should be some people at least, even after these many years, Crysis isn't exactly Empires mod.
Marathon was never that good. Its gunplay was never as fun as Doom's. Its level design was obnoxiously cramped and labyrinthine. Its story kind of devolved into pretentious cosmic horror nonsense.
Destiny just makes me sad. The pre-release art work gave this sort of "whole universe" feeling but the games do not reflect that. From the disastrous vanilla Destiny 1 which had nothing to the bloated Destiny 2, why any one trust modern bungie I have no clue.
Agreed. Pic related still gets me excited for a second before I remember this game doesn't actually exist.
That was old Bungie who were planning in making Destiny a sci-fi fantasy military story instead of Star Wars melodramatic shit before Activision raped them.
This was Bungie making a decision based on greed, Activision at worst enabled them.
>before Activision raped them.
Activision is fucking gay yeah but the Bungie staff raped each other because activision asked. Literally all they had to do was be assertive and they could have retained their souls and dignity. Bungie is not the victim. Time and time again they sell their bodies to the highest bidder and cry boo hoo small indie studio subjugated to corporate greed. Also buy the skins goy.
Destiny 1 was definitely compromised by Activision, it does feel like it was supposed to be something very good. Destiny 2 is complete slop made for non-humans completely willingly made by nuBungie though.
Destiny 1 was compromised by Bungie fucking it's own staff. Activision said jump and Bungie jumped. Then Bungie bent over and pulled up their skirts and said yes sir give me more.
Nah we know that the original plans were nuked and the game basically taped together because Jason Jones didn't like it. That's not Activision.
The entire dogshit lore being shat out in a hurry is also not an Activision thing. It's a matter of greed.
Now Destiny 2 is a just more proof of it.

>all these threads and crying dumbasses crying about nuMarathon >when if you ctrl+f "marathon" on a Ganker thread, you might get 10 results on a good day
Besides, you already had your Marathon reboot. Its called Halo.
Ganker has a hate boner for Marathon because that whole board is Doom territory. Ironically, you can sometimes find some discussion of Marathon within the Doom general but that's it.
just wait when people get nostalgic with fornite.
that already happens with minecraft and roblox, and people complain about the changes they made years later
the same as when they use the same ip for something that people dislike.
also happened with crash and that new pve game
NTA but he's right. I don't believe there are that many marathonfags on Ganker or anywhere really. I played the whole Marathon trilogy on xbox 360 ten years ago for one playthrough and I thought it was good not great. It does a lot of creative stuff but it's inferior to just about any other shooter in that era. I think the real reason it had the niche it did was because of the mac userbase not having many other options. Yes I know it was on other platforms. >you'll feel it too
I've felt the burn many times. It hurt at first. Then I became numb to it. Rebooting is easy to cope with when you realize it's just reusing a name and/or fanfiction and not actually a sequel. Just about every IP I love that turned into more than one game did this.
Oh shit looking it up and looks like you are right. I guess it was only Durandal then. Here I thought I played all 3 games. Guess I'm full blown retarded.
We get it zoomer, you can't comprehend the idea of anybody ever having liked something that isn't the latest popular trash. You don't need to start spamming.
>somebody watched that trailer and thought it would sell >somebody at Nu Bungie thought Marathon needed a reboot
Gamin is truly as dead as hollywood if not more, AI needs to take over soon
>most non-generic trailer music >great and unique artstyle
Are you sure you are not an npc? The only problem right now is that it's most likely going to be a Tarkov like.
The trailer otherwise looks and sounds like Marathon.
I think the point is that the trailer has the feeling of Marathon. It has the same mysterious and out of place look to it.
I know that artstyle is a hard thing here and most people are too stupid to even understand the basics of it.
>Not copying Doom Eternal when they lost Bethesda
How bloated is the budget if they can't make singleplayer games that they have to resort to GaaS shit?
Unfortunately GaaS is incredibly profitable. Destiny 2 is in the top 10 most played list for each platform, it's making a lot of money. Also Doom has name recognition, which can sell a singleplayer game. Marathon doesn't have that going for it at all so Bungie was never going to give it a proper reboot like Doom had.
It's not about making games, it's about making the the most well-tuned money milkers possible to pay off the debt and give executives big portfolios. Destiny apparently made bank because it's a normie-friendly money-stealer. That's what they're going for.
I playtested this game for Bungie about a year ago, took em long enough to finally announce it I guess. Didn't know it'd cause this much of a shithshow, i didn't know this game was a reboot until halfway through my session. Don't want to give any deets but I will say that me and the other playtesters were pretty critical of it. It wasn't very fun, but to be fair i never played an extraction shooter until then. Got a $300 visa for playin video games so that was cool I guess. Hopefully they've fixed all the problems we pointed out since then.
Yeah, fuck it. It was just kind of shallow. Some of the things I remember of note were just me and the other playtesters being kind of confused and not having that much fun. I feel like a lot of it was down to there being no stakes since we were being dropped in with pre-configured inventories and we didn't care what loot we found. Enemies were bullet sponges, combat was kind of boring. Half the time we were fighting robots and drones, with the occasional threat of the Bungie devs who fought our team (that was pretty cool). The map we were on was hard to navigate and the visual style was particularly grating to one of my fellow playtesters after we had played for some time. I remember it being not too bad but i did get a bit of a headache from it. Me personally, I was going through the motions after only an hour or so. I had no idea what any of the stuff we were running on even was, since the map design was so colorful and abstract. Guns were just basic halo type guns, DMR, battle rifle, etc. I do remember there being a lot of cool perks you could buy with the cash you get. The devs definitely stressed how this game is supposed to be something you can jump into really quickly with your buddies, and they plan on supporting it long-term with lots of updates. We had a big discussion with some of the devs after the play sessions and one thing we kept coming back to was how this game didn't really feel all that distinct, especially the playtesters who had actually played extraction type shooters. Best wishes to bingie, and i bet a lot of these things were probably ironed out.
Unfortunately I am a Marathon autist. I see something vaguely resembling the original trilogy and I'll onions out and play it. I am upset this exists, I hate extraction shooters, but I know I'm a slave to this franchise. I replay Marathon: Durandal once a month.
I'm deeply dissapointed in you anon, and you know made me remember you are not just one but hundred of marathon old fans will do the same thing as you, thus enabling this circus
Anon, literally NO ONE from the original team remains in Bungie. You are not going to play Marathon, just some skinwalking shit product made by redditors for redditors
Technically not true, Jason Jones is still there, but everyone else is gone. Greg Kirpatrick is probably somewhere crying.
Anon, literally NO ONE from the original team remains in Bungie. You are not going to play Marathon, just some skinwalking shit product made by redditors for redditors
>Anon, literally NO ONE from the original team remains in Bungie.
you realise Marathon is almost 30 years old right?
would you really expect someone to stay at the same company for 30 years?
I know for a fact that 90% of the retards here never even played the Marathon series and this is just regurgitated hate towards modern gaming and the state of the game industry today.
I'm not saying it isn't warranted, but this board really is just the 4chan of video games.
Give this fucking this a chance. Give everything a fucking chance. If it's shit, it's shit. Bitch about it then. You were never going to get the Marathon you wanted again anyway. That was never the plan. If Bungie wanted to make a Marathon game but more polished and more modern, they would have done it already. Oh wait, they already did. That's what Halo was. Halo brought them more success than Marathon ever did, and far more fans than Marathon ever would. This is them using a title they still own to make something new out of to catch that lightning in the bottle that Halo was again. This might just be the Halo of extraction shooters. Not everything is and will be like Tarkov, you know.
Anyway, grow up. You were never a Marathon fan. If you were, you would know that your franchise died way back then and that this isn't for you anymore.
>If you were, you would know that your franchise died way back then and that this isn't for you anymore.
This is true, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna bitch about it. If you're going to turn a dead series into something it isn't, then why not just invent a new IP or use Destiny for it?
Maybe they wanted to put a Marathon spin on this new game? This is just a teaser, dammit. This is a chance for them to create a world like the one that Marathon envisioned with all that crazy cool concept art that was drawn all those years back. I know that Marathon didn't really do any of that and it was just a corridor shooter like DOOM. Not much in terms of beautiful, imaginative skyboxes or locations.
Marathon, to me, is about exploring cool alien/sci-fi environments, discovering weird lore, and killing aliens. You can technically do all of that in an extraction shooter, but the format isn't really made for that.
I am fundamentally opposed to idiots looking at bungie making this and thinking it's going to be good because of that
It has nothing to do with marathon
There is a pretty good game that has taken a lot of inspiration from Marathon and it's made by a single guy who posts guro on twitter.
Check The Citadel. He is working on the sequel right now
>Give this fucking this a chance.
But I don't like tarkov gameplay? >If it's shit, it's shit. Bitch about it then.
and in the process you already enabled a bad game by saying "yes, I will play your game" which is something corpos care about, they don't care if people like their games and keep playing them, they care about how many people they will hook
how old are you? because it looks like you were born after 2000 and never played them.
I played it on a mac, I have the cd somewhere, and the shit they did now was bad, if you like it fine, but don't say that "you are not a fan of a franchise" just because they dislike the new game, and don't justify how they treated the ip, being that they could have done something much better
NTA but the gist of what he said was that people here should quit crying over a game that most of them never played and those that did haven't touched in over 2 decades. The IP is something else now. Move on. He didn't say you weren't a true fan if you liked or disliked it.
Marathon didn't have those colors because of the time that it was made in. Hard to make colors like that appealable in those days especially with the hardware and art style.
Now we hardware that makes colors rich and vibrant, and an art style that matches that.
No faith in the project so may as well use a well-established name everyone knows to get people to play this slop, otherwise everyone wouldn't even give this game the time of day
Now I haven't played any extraction shooters, not playing this one either but... do they even have NPC enemies to fight? Marathon without Pfhor just sounds wrong.
You can see enemies in the trailer. There's a clear shot of a compiler. It's the only reason I'm considering playing this game, I just hope you can avoid all players if you want to. I wanna kill pfhor, not xXSGTxPSYCH0Xx
They are PvEPvP games hard to explain. There are NPC enemies and player enemies. Idea is to complete missions during a round, loot stuff and get out alive with your stuff. Normally if you die you lose everything unless you buy some sort of insurance with ingame money.
Tarkov is pretty good when it's functioning like it should function but most of the time you are going to be killed by cheaters or people with much better gear than what you have.
The idea is pretty good but it's really hard to make right.
There were only ever 10 battleroids on Tau Ceti. That being said, battleroids were such a cool concept and it's a shame they're not in the game and we're basically playing as fucking BOBs
Well talking about how a team could find a key to unlock a zone, and then they could unlock it for everyone is probably the next evolution of Destiny raids. Multi-stage puzzles in the world you can complete, and also kinda leans into the AQ stuff WoW did back in the day.
If we get to explore Lhowon (I don't care if it doesn't make sense to go there) I will buy 7 marathon shirts from the Bungie store. I've wanted a proper 3D exploration of Lhowon for so long.
These new guys look like fucking pussies. The Officer would rip them to pieces
You have basically zero chance of that when every streamer under the sun is going to set their army of sycophants onto the game to do the job for them
And it's smoke and mirrors regardless
I don't think its entirely smoke and mirrors, they don't do PTRs for Destiny unlike WoW so the raids/puzzles come out fresh for everyone. I think they would have to do some clever shit to make data-mining not be a massive problem in that type of open-world puzzle solving though.
The massive leak that shows they announced the current season about a year in advance tells me it's probably not as fresh for everyone as it may appear
I wish I had died before I could've seen any of this shit, I would have died happy. Now I'll die after having seen too many of the shit I like get ruined.
It does appear to draw a lot from what they have been doing in destiny for a while.
Or perhaps I should say destiny was and is the testbed for functionalities meant for this game
yeah, its going to be the destiny 2 raids but with some pvp sprinkled in and extraction points like tarkov
it will provably sell well if it isn't completely broken at launch, then they will maintain it for a few years until it burns out
Seriously. 90% of this board played the game on Xbox 360 or whatever zoomer console it came out on, and even back when it came out the game was just ok and coasted on the gimmick of being Apple exclusive.
Marathon was actually pretty vibrant at times. Durandal in particular. But that was relegated to the Pfhor segments which really gave them an otherworldly feeling.
I'm guessing this is just going to have a unified art style though.
And out of all the Destiny players, how many do you think even know what Marathon is. The MIDA guns as a reference fell on deaf ears foe the most part.
Anon they had an entire dlc with Marathon crossover reference weapons and armor to prep for this announcement, that's when the leak happened. The two things Bungie still does well are art direction and hype generation
>armor for hunter was the Security Officer set >titan got pfhor set >warlock got a s'pht compiler set >shotgun and grenade launcher from marathon, and a ton of direct references to marathon oni and halo in the added game mode
They clearly been prepping the fan base for this I don't know what to tell you anon
1 week ago
Anonymous
Yeah it's the 30th anniversary package for their entire output not just marathon
Also that security set belonged to titans
That we knew it was coming has nothing to do with that
1 week ago
Anonymous
No, Hunters got the Deimosborn (Security Officer) set, Titans got the Pfhor warrior set.
The majority of the items and references in 30th anniversary were to Marathon, and even before 30th there were other references like MIDA and even the lab on Venus back in D1. Again this is clearly an idea that's been on the back burner for a while
1 week ago
Anonymous
I know who got what I'm saying titans should have gotten it
1 week ago
Anonymous
Nah Titans make more sense as the behemoths the Pfhor were supposed to be
I kinda wish the hunter set was a little better though, every piece but the helmet and arms is kinda lame
I think Destiny actually fits a modern reimagining of Marathon's art in some ways. Destiny is very colorful and the aliens all have distinctive aesthetics. The Fallen basically look like upgraded Pfhor
Its going to be an Extract Shooter, what else is there to wait for? even if it has gimmicks its still a piece of dying shit. Extract shooters aren't popular and this game will stand on its own two legs since destiny and halo wont carry it.
And what is this supposed to imply? a series that concluded in 1996 is not as popular as entire genre of games that were barely introduced into the market 5 years ago? jeez nice insight you got there.
Chris Ray Gun is a genuine brainlet. Listening to him speak makes me want to punch a hole through my computer, which is a shame because I enjoy the other two guys on the podcast he does with Moriarty. I think I've just had it with zoomers who know nothing about video games and aren't afraid to out themselves.
Because the original games also had wacky color design, see
Marathon was actually pretty vibrant at times. Durandal in particular. But that was relegated to the Pfhor segments which really gave them an otherworldly feeling.
I'm guessing this is just going to have a unified art style though.
and because this has been leaked for like a year after the 30th anniversary dlc came out in Destiny 2
>most of the actual game stuff shown was just fucking concept art >more discussion about the seasons and pvp than what the actual game is like >No seriously, what is the lore? what is going on on fucking tau ceti?
I've never seen more red flags in a single video than I've seen with both bungie and 343 in the past ten years; dear lord
>Why is the SO drawn so inconsistently? I actually like the trenchcoat design.
The real world reason is that Craig Mullins drew the concepts back during the infant stage of digital painting, before concept art in gaming was a properly standardized profession.
In-universe the explanation is that the security officer is a reality hopping supersoldier, he works with whatever is on hand wherever he ends up
Most of anons here would dare you to actually play Marathon trilogy and imagine for yourself what it would look like if a fourth installment would come out today. I guarantee you, it would not be like this.
I think people are missing the bigger picture by saying "Well you didn't play on release so you are not a fan of the series" when Marathon became a cult game that was shared around in various FPS related forums around the mid 2000's. I think that if you interacted with the classic FPS community, you have heard of Marathon at some point.
These marketers don't seem to realize "hey this old FPS game is completely free and open source and on every operating system" means more people got to play it.
It stems from a modern sociological phenomena where women are extremely overrepresented in behavioral departments so female competitive strategies are more rewarded in a corporate space rather than the male counterpart.
I have this weird feeling like they renamed Matter to Marathon last minute when they realized how uninspired the original name sounded. Bungie are definitely not stupid when it comes to promoting their stuff but I cant help but feel cynical about the way they're going to grab the name of a beloved trilogy and just slap it onto their latest project. Battle Royale still mog Extract Shooters and that'll never change since BRs offer much better replayability and generally more fun and exciting. This game just feels wrong, I think its in everyone's best interest that it does not take off or even come close to being popular because I feel like Bungie are jumping the shark and letting their confidence from turning Destiny around get to them
I'm going to be the devil's advocate and say that Extraction shooter offers a little bit more flexibility for the game. We can get PvE and possible story missions while still being able to get killed by other players. Will it play out like this? Probably not, but I'm SOMEWHAT hopeful this is a good game.
It was a cult classic anon, by definition most people knew nothing about it. The name fits for a game where you run around collecting scraps of ancient godlike technology and obviously by the teaser including MIDA, UESC, and a fucking Worldship that this either Matter was a code name or its something else entirely
I dont know this isnt typical behavior for them. This might just be the first time they've ever grabbed an old IP and tried to reboot it. Seem unordinary for them.
Enjoy your LGBT BLM SAH slop, bro
>Marathon bros
All dead
this. stop pretending you all actually care about fucking marathon. you're just addicted to being outraged
I played Marathon with groups on B.Net before and made many a schizopost tying it and Halo together when I was a kid
You're outraged about the wrong thing if posers are pissing you off more than Bungie pissing on the IP. Unless you're a shill, then that would make a lot of sense
>Monday night
>talking about Humble Bundle with my bro
>gonna buy the Capcom bundle for Dragon's Dogma
>look at the Bungie slot in the spring sale and mention how pathetic it is, they only have Destiny for their 30 anniversary, can't sell Halo and haven't touched Marathon since 360
>reveals today
>the monkey paw curls
Not like this...
I can still name one of the guys I played on dial up with and I have a Marathon poster on my wall.
Well you're in the very small minority. If I were even more of an ass I'd demand proof with timestamp of the poster
It's a cool poster, I took some closer shots and rambled a bit on Ganker awhile ago
https://desuarchive.org/vr/thread/7612736/
ahh the androidarts guy, i always wondered why he went with two enforcers
Probably just easiest to slot in/most notable change in look between entries.
it's over
ES IST VORBEI
marathonbros are you okay?
lol ouch, kinda glad they didn't bring back oni then.
You will give Bungie your money and you will be happy
This is the future you choose
IM SO FUCKING DONE WITH ALL OF IT WHAT THE FUCK MAN
>MetaDoom
>No MetaMarathon
Fuck, just keep it dead
You're fucking joking
Thank you Sony for buying them. It was worth it.
In all fairness did you seriously expect the bozos behind fucking DESTINY to make a single player shooter?
NOOOOOOOO
Jesus. Hype killed in record time.
FUCK YOU JASON JONES
has any other gaming franchise had such an abhorrent revival? 27 years since the last game, and they turn it into an entirely different MTX-driven genre
Legacy of Kain was revived through an arena shooter that was utter garbage. That was pretty shitty.
I actually liked Nosgoth
Nonetheless, that doesn't detract from the immeasurable disappointment I felt when the series gets some attention and it's to cater to a completely different crowd.
god don't remind me
it's looking to get a remake/reboot in a few years and i've already braced myself for it being terrible
You deserve it for trusting modern Bungie.
Who the fuck here said they trusted modern Bungie?
All those franchises that went to mobile hell and never returned
Command and Conquer, Dungeon Keeper, Commander Keen, probably more but that's just from the top of my head.
have you forgotten about Duke Nukem Forever? i wish i could
Haunted House (Atari)
bungie today has absolutely nothing to do with the bungie that made the first destiny game, let alone any of the marathon games. They own the IP.
Never play Marathon before but F. You Marathon bros got it rough.
HA
>let's bring back an IP that the a grand majority of the kids these days have never heard of then alienate the original audience
This only works if you know how to hit a specific niche
Everyone else is just going to play the game this revival is aping off of
same happened to beyond good and evil
>have a cult classic action adventure game that ends on a cliff hanger
>make a gaas coop prequel
>series creator ragequits the industry midway through
until ancel left i still had a shred of hope because the man has never really missed, but after his departure the game is 100% gonna be shit
If that's the case then destiny would have never taken off.
i'm so sick of extraction shooters beings the new battle royle fad.
What is an extraction shooter? I don't play modern shooters.
Tarkovlike. It's Battle Royale except instead of killing everyone else the goal is to get to an escape point, you keep the gear you find in the game for use in the next game, and can buy stuff inbetween matches.
Ah, okay. So it's the old identity theft using the corpse of an old IP trick.
Like in the trailer . Ppl like this. Bungie always encouraged rough ass online. Now it's just secret
>You have a stash of loot
>equip your character with loot and go into a PVP/PVE zone
>You complete objectives and search the area for more loot to add to your stash
>you leave through designated exists(yes camping and exit is a legit strat players use)
>if you die you lose everything you came in with
>if you escape through one of those exits you keep the gear you found and add it to your stash
Its a high risk high reward gameplay style that in basically long stretch's of nothing and then short spans of extremely intense combat as hours of progression can be wiped if you are killed. Its basically PVP survival games were distilled into a match format.
Battle Royale but it has a built in expiration date because new players are at a huge disadvantage
The monkey's paw never fails.
its over
Man, can't even leave long dormant, super obscure, old ass games alone huh.
but why
this isn't surprising. bungie has been run by out of touch literal retards for ages. the only reason people cling onto destiny is addiction so this will die instantly. pvp was always the worst part of destiny.
its so fucking over, bros
L MAO
BUNGHOLE, YOU FUCKUPS
wtf
>Use an old IP nobody under 30 has ever heard of.
>Make it a completely different type of game
What's the fucking point? Why call it Marathon if it's not going to be anything like Marathon?
Why does it matter? Genuinely.
Based, I played the original games back in the day and a bunch of the fan stuff about a year ago, can't wait to see how this turns out
I was rageposting earlier but I'm warming up to it. It's not what I wanted from a reboot, but it could still be fun.
I hate how companies destroy our favorite games with stupid ideas
It's fucking over
Tell me this is a shitpost right now
I know Tarkov has its fans but you know this is just gonna be sweaty pay2win CoD DMZ with a sci-fi aesthetic to appeal to Destiny fags.
This is the last thing I wanted to hear from a Marathon revival.
Never have I seen such an absolute heart crushing revival of an IP, not even for Command&Conquer since everyone rightfully knew 4 killed it.
>Just finished infinity on the Steam Deck
>now this
>They didn't even play A Power of Seven remix
holy fucking shit it's even worse than I thought
At least the trailer was cool.
They announced this a long ass time ago. How are you fags so clueless. Also extraction shooters can be kino, stop basing it all on Tarkov.
name one extraction shooter thats "kino"
im waiting
still waiting
>Also extraction shooters can be kino
What flavor of eastern european are you?
>Sony so desperate for a Halo and soon CoD competitor when microsoft buys them out, they buy Bungie to turn Marathon into a pvp game.
Lmao
That's 100% a bungie idea
I doubt a new sp Marathon game would be good from current day Bungle but holy fuck why would they do this?
I dunno, Mythbros, I feel pretty comfortable here in my tomb burried 6ft underground. Hopefully PitDbros are comfortable too.
PitD is basically a prequel to Marathon. It's a shared universe anyway.
>Destiny 2.5
what the fuck
Tell them I died well.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
It's OVER.
You're shitting me. I never played the original in mac but I did sink hours into the XBLA versions and the Kill Them All mode.
I'm going to be honest, not even Xbox would make a retarded decision like this. Playstation bought bungie just to rape Marathon
lol
lmao even
Bungie is solely responsible for that one
noooo
what are you gonna do, after the sun is gone...
>get told to put on a mask
>equate it to some dystopian future with hit squads and everything
jesus why are people so melodramatic
i didnt put much thought into it bud. it was just in my folder.
but i'll give you a bit of a jab, because if a virus 10x the shit of covid comes out, you want to bet on this shit that might go down?
Alarmists like to panic about vaccines, which ironically is a psy-op too, much like flat Earth and other dribble. Those ones who think vaccines control minds also fail to consider the basic implication that were such tech to be in the presumed enemy's hands, the planet while isn't necessarily fucked, they certainly wouldn't need to use a virus to propagate such means.
But I digress.
Why hasn't someone made a game with that concept yet
Not even the Division with it's extremely dystopian setting did that
Because you need the perfect team with the right talent, mindset, and passion to create a game like that.
Protecton team someone coughed in sector 7g.
>combine radio noises
*grrrgh-blgrblgr*
*HREEEEEE*
not like this
They're better making this trash free to play cause I'm not paying for a Tarkov clone Jesus Christ
Quake turning into a pseudo hero shooter looks so tame by comparison now...
C'est fini
i wonder if the initial intention was for those extracted items to be nft's lmao
there will probably be a few games like this announced this year kek
>bungie
>balancing ANY type of pvp
I miss old bottom tree striker, nowadays people shit their pants because of knockout
Halo 3 was pretty balanced.
That was them with microsoft.
Ever since bungie went solo it's been pretty clear that they don't know how to handle themselves. Microsoft was unironically tardwrangling them like a motherfucker.
>pvp extraction
>survival
so no singleplayer/coop or any campaign
>homos pretending to be sad
kek
you're really obsessed with posting this kid huh
>Nu'Bungie
>PVP
This is a recipe for disaster just by game balance alone
Hahahah holy shit
I thought Ganker was all over that Tarkov shit? I think this could possibly still be a fun game, just a shame that they’re using an IP that’s been dead for 2 decades in this way.
Ganker is not good enough at games for Tarkov
bro I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT. I LOVED MARATHO-
>PVP extraction shooter meme
oh FUCK off
I'm genuinely disturbed
I'm not even a marathon old fag, I feel genuinely bad for everyone who liked Marathon
why revive a franchise in name only? it's not like the marathon is big enough to justify using its name to boost sales over just creating a new IP
Game sounds like a real banger.
An extraction shooter! This is what we've been waiting for? What a waste of everyone's time.
This is double retarded considering Doom's recent major success.
This feels more like Quake Champions, honestly. But even worse.
CALL THIS SOMETHING ELSE PLEASE.
At least Quake Champions tried to keep the atmosphere and aesthetics similar to Quake. This LITERALLY does not look like Marathon in the slightest.
bro Doom and Marathon are not comparable, Doom was extremely popular and retained that popularity since 1993, 75% of the fanbase for the latter are from a Mandalore video uploaded like a year ago
>75% of the fanbase for the latter are from a Mandalore video uploaded like a year ago
That's so fucking bullshit. Marathonfags have always been there, they just got drowned out because of Halo. Also
>Mandalore
that Mandalore video unironically has more view than Marathon has sales kek
lol show me your power macintosh then gay, no real human being who sees the outside world knows wtf marathon is
not him but i played the series for the first time in 2014 in aleph one
I'm so sorry.
marathonbros, i never played the game but im so sorry
this must be extremely painful
I'm chilling, CIA. I don't feign internet hipster points by crying about how close this is to my heart. I love the franchise, and I appreciate the story for what it is. I can always play the originals.
I'm excited to see what they do with the Marathon universe here.
shills on day 1? damn
Worse, they read like bots.
It's probably trolls but I wouldnt be surprised if they were actually bots
Real marathon heads have been starving for this forever, it was always gonna be shilling from day one
>for this
>a multiplayer shooter
>with none of the asthetics nor the design as the original
The thing that made OG marathon fun was the multi-player and the schizo lore, which this reboot is obviously leaning into. The single player mode was always a middling at best experience and even normies like Mandalore didn't pretend otherwise
There are flashes of brilliance in the M1 singleplayer but they really figured it out in 2.
Never managed to play the multiplayer myself.
Infinity including a prototype Forge mode was genius, shame the only game that ever reall tried to do that on console with any success was Halo
It wasn't really uncommon for FPS games to include dev tools on the CD. It was more or less a farewell gift on Bungie's/Double Aught part, though.
Also one thing that stood out is that it came with a bunch of video tutorials. They're interesting to watch:
You only got the second part right
>no true scotsman
Begone dredgen
literally who asked for this
Bungie apparently.
marathon is now a gayass fortnite clone, holy shit
Sorry bro. It's gonna be shit
My brother loved Marathon, I hope he didn't watch this today. He'd seethe and seethe for days.
I saw your post in the sticky
I'm your bro but not your brother. I cannot even begin to tell you how angry I am
I assume your brother doesn't game anymore
it's a tarkov clone
Article from october 2022, it was known it was going to be shit
the industry is so doomed
when will the crash finally happen?
BRUH
losing my fucking mind right now
I also love extraction shooters And it looks so much better than that shitty old doom ripoff it looks original.
erm
>not even exclusive
Why did playstation buy bungie again?
>wanted Bobs and Pfhor
>got Destiny Tarkov
What the fuck does this even have to do with the original games?
they both have guns and movement
Bungie were very good at creating very simple but kino symbols
replaying Halo and finding Marathon symbols showed you how much they used to care
Jason Jones is a garden gnome who enjoys destroying things that people love.
Jason checked out after Alex he has been letting Pete Parsons run the show for a while now as he sits back and collects checks. Destiny 1 was the last time he really invested himself in anything and according to all accounts he lost interest in it very quickly.
So NUUM is going to go completely uncontested as the only big budget boomer shooter out there?
>NUUM
?
NuDOOM
Isn't Marathon a prequel to the Halo games?
no but there are constant call backs up to Halo Reach, people have gone schizo trying to catalog them all.
It's basically System Shock but changed enough to be legally distinct.
they were literally released the same year less than 3 months apart.
Nah, there's some references to it in the Halo games but otherwise its main similarities are being devved by the same studio
>Revive the IP that had an intirguing narrative premise and has a fan forum where the trilogy's story is still being debated 29 years on
>The said revival is in name only and it's now a Tarkov live service game
If this cannot convince people how morally bankrupt western AAA industry is then nothing ever will.
Same shit with a different smell happened with the 2012 Syndicate reboot EA did where they just made it an FPS with an optional co-op mode and a dubstep soundtrack. Western AAA has been morally bankrupt for a long ass time.
That game was good tho
Did the forum nuke itself after this or they don't care and keep playing the old one
>Doom
>Prey
>Tomb Raider
>God of War
This is the new trend. No numbers, no semicolons -that's too confusing! just use old name!
Most of those are reboots, though. I can kind of see the logic in doing that, since they're telling potential buyers that they don't need to worry about the existing continuity.
Funnily enough GoW and DOOM do continue off of the old continuity
This is a reboot. Its set in Tau Ceti in an alternate timeline of the events of like in Infinite.
I'm gonna fucking vomit
Have you people learned your lesson yet?
The industry has been in a holding pattern since the pandemic, which dont think is the primary reason it just slowed things down. The real cause is simply industry consolidation in 2018 and 2019 necessitating new blood getting proven through big projects, but not enough faith in said new blood to give them their own IP or creative freedom.
I have known this lesson for a long time. It should feel good to be proven right over and over again, but it still feels shit.
I'm so tired of waiting for people to catch up, it really is exhausting
It's so fucking over
What happened?
Former cult classic single player shooter series gets "rebooted" as a multiplayer live service shooter.
Today, I will remind them.
Wasn't it at least 12? Though I think 2 of them just got canned.
I mean it might be fun
nobody but 5 posters on this board (including me) knew this series existed 2 years ago, and suddenly after some random eceleb video the entire internet knows and a shitty cashgrab sequel is made
I fucking hate normalfags so much
a lot of oldfags know about marathon
it just looked like bungie was never gonna do something with it so people just moved on
mandalore doing a video merely rekindled some of the interest, not introduced all these people to it
I have only played 1 and got filtered by that awful level but I've watched everything there is to watch about the 3 games and I've read through the forums a lot. I don't pretend to be an enormous fan but it's still sad to see something old with this strange niche appeal get recycled into a FotM PvP shooter.
the videos you're talking about are less than a year old. the project is more than likely in the work since longer than that.
I played the division 1&2 and the dark zones + that snow storm mode were both pretty fun. expanding on that into a whole game could work quite well I feel
play tarkov and youll figure it out soon enough
Tarkov is fun though, but the idea is beyond what BSG is capable of. Lighting, balance, recoil, servers etc is all fucked. Bungie can start from a clean slate and design things with a blueprint of what to do/not to do.
They have been shoveling people who were in charge of the destiny pvp, among other things, over to presumably this game.
It was over before it even began
Destiny PVP is fucked because of the PVE. Its why no one should take WoW PVP seriously, anything that COULD work is fucked because of PVE balance.
OHHH BRO I'M SO CLOSE TO EXTRACTING WITH THIS GOOD SHIT OH BRO BRO BROOOO FUCK I DIED I WAS SO CLOSE
>hops into another game
>repeat
It's worse than gambling because it's subhuman dopamine junkies competing to fuck each other over
OHHH BRO I'M SO CLOSE TO PUSHING THE PAYLOAD IN OH BRO BRO BROOOO FUCK WE LOST WE WERE SO CLOSE
>hops into another game
>repeat
that level of reductionism is criminal, all games are based around satisfaction
are you sure you aren't mentally retarded and using the word "zoomer" to cope with such a fact?
Sounds like video games to me, son.
Also, extraction shooters are just a shit genre.
>I'm
Stopped reading right there
>Tarkov has diseased the entire genre with it's bullshit.
this is true
I think Cycle Frontier's idea of having persistent servers last 6 hours, people filter in and out, is where the genre needs to go. Similar to Dark Zone in Division. The session based like 30-45 minute shit Tarkov and DMZ do is trash, you never have time to really do what you came in for if you also seek out PVP.
Also no flea/economy shit, you find stuff its for you.
>Similar to the Dark Zone in the Division.
It's weird how Ubisoft comes often close to a good concept then does absolutely nothing with it.
I've never tried that game before, is it fun to you?
i remember that fucking bullshit
their customer support is shit and basically ghosts you if you aren't russian so am*ricans never get their account back if they get banned
>link
What in the fuck is that shit? Do people seriously just get banned for killing streamers?
Yup, and you don't get you account back unless you cry on their subreddit, instead of using their actual support form on their site.
Cope moron, You've never had any actual discussion on this godforsaken site before
ask me how i know you're from reddit
imagine defending a genre full of trannies
no one gives a shit gay chud
Holy shit what a fucking dogshit system, imagine playing and getting banned because you KILLED A STREAMER
Ganker has rotted your brain, you can make absolutely anything sound like shit with what you're doing
>OHHH BRO I'M SOCIAL NETWORKING AT THE WORKPLACE OH BRO I'M SO CLOSE TO LANDING A GREAT JOB WITH HUGE BENEFITS FUCKKK I DIDN'T GET IT I WAS SO CLOSE
>wakes up tomorrow
>repeat
https://alephone.lhowon.org/
Here you go, download all three before it's too late.
Cool to see my image posted outside of Ganker. It hasn't been updated since...ever actually. It really needs Spatial Outpouring, Megiddo Game, and some other stuff added. Tempus Irae also recently received an update, I think
Yeah, it's missing some new shit. I don't think it ships with the XBLA HUD anymore which is pretty much mandatory if you want it to look good on a widescreen monitor. Enabling 3D Perspective turns off Y-shearing too and makes the game look better.
>three threads for a dead IP
Man people really do wish to fit in when they get mad when old IPs no one cares about get turned into something else
Is this all bungie is gonna make? Just shooters for all eternity?
Mythbros all died so yeah
I just hope they will make some Siege of Madrigal easter egg in the new Marathon. That is all.
After 11 years break I decided to finish TFL and SB campaigns on Legendary with my friend. Right now we're on Ambush at the Devil's Overlook. It is still a great game.
>Siege of Madrigal
Marty and Microsoft would both sue them out the ass.
Microsoft is about to buy them
What a huge what-if would be if Myth II's launch was never a fuckup.
They have one or two more projects they have yet to reveal but rumors talked about some kind of hero shooter.
ykes
God damn. Are literal porn whores really allowed to be senior artists on big budget projects like this?
I'm not complaing here, mind you.
trans people are kind of just expected to be as repulsive as possible
Why the fuck do they get a job at Bungie? How many dick sucking or connections they have to get those jobs.
Well basically they apply and since nobody else does they're hired
I already check their artstation and they were already hired since they worked on Destiny 2 stuff. Still absolutely no way no one else applied except them.
The affable nerds that worked at Bungie in the early 00s would not believe you if you told them.
slight upgrade if I'm being honest, but both look equally insufferable to be around
wait this meme is real what the fuck I thought it was just Ganker shitposting
And this why drugs like weed should be outlawed because it fuck with your brain
Everyone at bungie is a chud.
How and when did these mentally illl, fatherless retards invade this industry
long, long time ago i can still remember.
Failed men, no other way to say it.
Besides the Tarkov horseshit, did anyone at all recognize this was Marathon before the title?
>did anyone at all recognize this was Marathon
I wasn't sure until I saw the S'pht. Something about the art style is so off putting its almost like they went for the globo homo color palette.
I saw the S'pht and I started puking because I knew what was going to happen. I wish Bungie stopped existing after 2012 Destiny's build got killed.
Calm down joe
Pretty much immediately. Helmet design. S'pht. A terminal with "they are waiting"
The S'pht(How the fuck are they going to do a story for this) was a dead give away and the Bungie Logo basically confirmed it was gonna be that I feel sorry for the fools that think that this new one is somehow gonna be a good thing
Its going to be as ugly as the last destiny dlc isn't it
Its lame to use the name but its obviously just a reference, why all the seethe? Basically the way that the studio is called bungie but is not the same one that made the original marathon
>you know realize Marathon was always shit aside from the lore
why did they even use the name
I'm legitimately offended by this
>survivors stranded
>use artificial bodies to compete
>Pfhor who are everywhere show up
It makes a kind of sense but I doubt it will be as good as I envision in my head in terms of tone
>Modern games all suck, I wish developers would just make more of the games I was playing back when games were GOOD
Granted
Uh no I wished for new games not remakes and member berries
My friend pointed out that the symbol looks like a fucking dyson fan and now I cannot unsee it
20 fucking years I've seen that symbol, and now my brain just sees a stick and a circle
This sounds perfectly appropriate for this situation
This has got to be the biggest hardest monkey paw curl I have ever seen holy mother of Christ
at home playing the original games and not even looking into this junktrashgarbage
What's the next old franchise that will be brought back just to be desecrated?
Jak
F-Zero
Jade Empire
hopefully
Im starting to have a bad feeling about Homeworld 3...
Remind me who is the publisher
Gex, which will be the absolute worst revival of them all because the originals were designed under a very different culture from today
Just don't purchase it, or interact with it in any way. These trends will only continue if you make them economically viable.
Did this tactic ever work at all?
If it is so egregious that even normalfags also not interact with it, which is not looking good. Despite the years of Destiny being shit normalfags still defend that series.
It would if people actually did it. The truth is you've been conditioned into addiction to consuming short-term daily content and publishers like Sony and Microsoft have you by the balls.
Flops are flops but it only works when the overall reaction is already negative
no
people will never stand up to anything these days, it's hopeless
It's not about if it works or it doesnt, it's a principle thing
Stand on your own ground
lootboxes got sued out of the industry... mostly.
i still won't buy, so if one of these shit games get popular i will rest easy that i didn't contribute to them.
Sadly outside of not buying all you can do is talk about it negatively
it worked with BF5 and i think BF2045 games.
>Marathon
>In 2023
Oh no
>By modern Bungie
Oh no
>PVP
Oh no
>Extraction shooter
FUCK
Who the fuck asked for this? Marathon ended pretty conclusively .
Found it. Pic related.
I spent a ton of time in the marathon website back in the day due to autism.
>Who the fuck asked for this?
I asked. I WILL PREORDER. I WILL BUY THE SKINS. I AM BUYING THE T-SHIRTS
we are so fucking back macbros
What's Durandal's reaction to this bullshit?
Minor disgust with contemptuous amusement, followed by leaving.
He'd probably open and close some doors really hard, he's quite the expert at that.
If I'm looking for a decent sci-fi FPS, would Crysis 3 be worth trying nowadays?
Absolutely not.
Try Mace Griffin: Bounty hunter.
It's like half of a great game which would be saying something if the game wasn't half the length of Crysis 1 and 2
No. Play Bulletstorm
Marathon was never that good. Its gunplay was never as fun as Doom's. Its level design was obnoxiously cramped and labyrinthine. Its story kind of devolved into pretentious cosmic horror nonsense.
Bungie can rot in hell. They literally stole an entire game I paid for from me because "WE DON'T WANT THE GAME FILESIZE TO GET TOO BIG :^)"
FUCK EM
FUCK THEM
Destiny just makes me sad.
Maybe, but we can say for certain that Destiny 2 was entirely Bungie's wrong doing.
Retard
Jason Jones really was a fucking hack and Alex Seropian carried Bungie to success.
Where's he now? On some podcast with the rest of Bungie founders?
>before Activision raped them.
Also buy the skins goy.
and as far as destiny goes, the scenes in the red war is what i had any memory of as being good, in the entire game. especially as a first impression.
I wish I could execute anyone legit excited for this. It would be a boon for the gaming industry and humanity as a whole.
I'm excited because I like Tarkov
what are you gonna do about it you old gay
Watch the sky, moron.
I tried looking into Marathon last year because it sounds cool, but apparently there's a lot of hoops you need to jump through to get it up and running.
Is there a guide, or something?
Shan't be playing this new reboot, in any case.
Sick, thanks lads.
Just download the latest aleph one build and it just works.
>Could've had a schizocore narrative shooter
>Do a dead genre instead
Sony are really firing on all cylinders these days.
how the fuck a dinky old mac has better marathon games than 5 generations of gaming consoles?
I've had no fucking clue what Marathon is before this, but I now am mad for your sake marathin bros.
>that dogshit artsyle that just looks like modern Bungie Concept art
I miss old Alpha D1 art so fucking much and Halo in general
>all these threads and crying dumbasses crying about nuMarathon
>when if you ctrl+f "marathon" on a Ganker thread, you might get 10 results on a good day
Besides, you already had your Marathon reboot. Its called Halo.
Retards...
Ganker jannies are unironically deleting posts discussing this
Ganker has a hate boner for Marathon because that whole board is Doom territory. Ironically, you can sometimes find some discussion of Marathon within the Doom general but that's it.
Ganker is a doommoron board
>Gankerdoomfags when they see a doom wad with text
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GAME NO ONE HAS PLAYED I MUST PRETEND TO BE MAD
You'll eventually feel it too when that one dead series you loved has its corpse dug up and molested by a necrophile
if I'm getting mad about a game that released 30 years ago I'd want someone to shoot me in the head
just wait when people get nostalgic with fornite.
that already happens with minecraft and roblox, and people complain about the changes they made years later
the same as when they use the same ip for something that people dislike.
also happened with crash and that new pve game
Just about every IP I love that turned into more than one game did this.
the trilogy wasn't on XBLA. also
>he didn't play the trilogy on PC on Total Carnage with an uncapped framerate
fucking apply yourself
Oh shit looking it up and looks like you are right. I guess it was only Durandal then. Here I thought I played all 3 games. Guess I'm full blown retarded.
We get it zoomer, you can't comprehend the idea of anybody ever having liked something that isn't the latest popular trash. You don't need to start spamming.
yes anon, I know that you also play absolutely a lot of "popular" games and that when future people trash some of those games you will say nothing
pretty excited about this if it ends up being good, love hunt showdown

Need 7777 viewers to unlock the next piece
>somebody watched that trailer and thought it would sell
>somebody at Nu Bungie thought Marathon needed a reboot
Gamin is truly as dead as hollywood if not more, AI needs to take over soon
you are so out of touch it's funny
>out of touch cause I dont like pozzed game from Pozzed company
the trailer is having a positive reception and no one cares about Marathon
yes you are out of touch
>the trailer is having a positive reception and no one cares about Marathon
sure thing hook nose
ah yes because AI certainly will give us true originality and quality instead of just regurgitated popular shit over and over again
>most non-generic trailer music
>great and unique artstyle
Are you sure you are not an npc? The only problem right now is that it's most likely going to be a Tarkov like.
The trailer otherwise looks and sounds like Marathon.
>The trailer otherwise looks and sounds like Marathon.
the shilling begins
Outside of the S'pht, that is not fucking true at all. have a nice day.
You haven't played the games have you? The trailer looks and sounds like a Marathon game retard.
Hard to shill a Tarkov-like honestly.
i'd post craig mullins but there's a good chance another anon did
I think the point is that the trailer has the feeling of Marathon. It has the same mysterious and out of place look to it.
I know that artstyle is a hard thing here and most people are too stupid to even understand the basics of it.
dumb fucking marketer
Disingenuous fucking marketermoron
Looks like I got you there. You haven't played the games moron.
the trailer looked cool visually but it had absolutely no resemblance to the earlier games
GaaS is Bungie's bread and butter these days as well as the reason Snoy threw money at them
>copying zoom eternal
Fuck off
It's not about making games, it's about making the the most well-tuned money milkers possible to pay off the debt and give executives big portfolios. Destiny apparently made bank because it's a normie-friendly money-stealer. That's what they're going for.
7777 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFcXob5iu-0
I playtested this game for Bungie about a year ago, took em long enough to finally announce it I guess. Didn't know it'd cause this much of a shithshow, i didn't know this game was a reboot until halfway through my session. Don't want to give any deets but I will say that me and the other playtesters were pretty critical of it. It wasn't very fun, but to be fair i never played an extraction shooter until then. Got a $300 visa for playin video games so that was cool I guess. Hopefully they've fixed all the problems we pointed out since then.
Danke für deine Service
can you tell us what kind of flaws it had?
I hope none of you fall for this right? you wouldn't play this game you claim to hate right??
Unfortunately I am a Marathon autist. I see something vaguely resembling the original trilogy and I'll onions out and play it. I am upset this exists, I hate extraction shooters, but I know I'm a slave to this franchise. I replay Marathon: Durandal once a month.
I'm deeply dissapointed in you anon, and you know made me remember you are not just one but hundred of marathon old fans will do the same thing as you, thus enabling this circus
I'm disappointed in myself.
Technically not true, Jason Jones is still there, but everyone else is gone. Greg Kirpatrick is probably somewhere crying.
>Jason Jones
he's not the same kid that worked on Marathon
Anon, literally NO ONE from the original team remains in Bungie. You are not going to play Marathon, just some skinwalking shit product made by redditors for redditors
>Anon, literally NO ONE from the original team remains in Bungie.
you realise Marathon is almost 30 years old right?
would you really expect someone to stay at the same company for 30 years?
A good amount of them would've been willing to if Jason Jones hadn't been a fucking gay and sabotaged his own company in 2012
Lost in one of the awful maze maps
It's an extraction shooter there's nothing to expect from it
i remember Curiouser and Curiouser... from 2 pretty well due to its sky
Marathon, to me, is about exploring cool alien/sci-fi environments, discovering weird lore, and killing aliens. You can technically do all of that in an extraction shooter, but the format isn't really made for that.
>Give nuBungie a chance
Not even if I was held at gun point
>give this a chance
I will never give any modern live service multiplayer game a chance, and anyone with any standards at all should do the same.
Bitch about it then.
and in the process you already enabled a bad game by saying "yes, I will play your game" which is something corpos care about, they don't care if people like their games and keep playing them, they care about how many people they will hook
what if I do like Tarkov gameplay
I don't care
you're seething a lot for someone that doesn't care
Good bait, made me reply. I hope you get raped.
how old are you? because it looks like you were born after 2000 and never played them.
The art direction of the trailer is fucking amazing but a Tarkov clone is fucking sad. Maybe Bungie could do something interesting with the genre
this shit being viewgated
This whole game better be a bad matrix simulation.
10 MINUTES
>this game looks great!
>it's just a CG trailer
why are people retarded
Should have been 7 minutes
looks like shit so far
>look these people up
>they're 99% new people
>ex blizzard staff
lmao holy shit.
Looks more System Shock than Marathon in terms of raw aesthetics.
It borrows heavily from this game.
The aesthetics are most likely actually borrowing from Homeworld which that game most likely does too.
Homeworld didn't have an excess of neon colors splashing all over the environment. Marathon didn't either.
Marathon didn't have those colors because of the time that it was made in. Hard to make colors like that appealable in those days especially with the hardware and art style.
Now we hardware that makes colors rich and vibrant, and an art style that matches that.
>PVP only
>no story
>no campaign
>""""extraction"""" shooter
What the fuck is the point of calling this MARATHON then??
The L O R E
recycling name
Money
No faith in the project so may as well use a well-established name everyone knows to get people to play this slop, otherwise everyone wouldn't even give this game the time of day
cashing in on nostalgia, while seemingly appear as a totally new game franchise for history-less zoomzooms
Now I haven't played any extraction shooters, not playing this one either but... do they even have NPC enemies to fight? Marathon without Pfhor just sounds wrong.
yes PvE is a huge part of all extraction shooters
Hunt Showdown has them.
You can see enemies in the trailer. There's a clear shot of a compiler. It's the only reason I'm considering playing this game, I just hope you can avoid all players if you want to. I wanna kill pfhor, not xXSGTxPSYCH0Xx
Too bad, xXX_Devil_Sauske_xXx bought some cheats and he's going to use them
They are PvEPvP games hard to explain.
I wouldn't say the formula is hard to get right, Tarkov has it down perfectly it's just held back by technical issues (anti cheat being one of them)
>revive beloved franchise
>make it wholly an entire thing based on current fad
REPEAT AD NAUSEAM
WELCOME TO VIDEO GAMES
I FUCKING HATE IT
Just make something that not based on current fad
Try telling the execs that when they spend thousands of dollars in hiring statisticians to seek out rising trends.
START
>Buzzwords buzzwords
Nice start
>They have pronouns on the title cards
lol
>persistent zones
So its like Division/Cycle Froniter instead of Tarkov/DMZ. Good start, should keep queues low.
>that vidoc where they pretend to play their game
Hilarious
>pronouns
>pronouns
Its fucking dead
>this is cyberpunk and so cool!!!!
MARATHON WAS NEVER FUCKING CYBERPUNK
>you're a runner, because marathon! Get it?
Drop a nuke on California now.
>runners
whatever happened to battleroids?
There were only ever 10 battleroids on Tau Ceti. That being said, battleroids were such a cool concept and it's a shame they're not in the game and we're basically playing as fucking BOBs
>over the course of a season
HAHAHAHAHA
Seasons/wipes is the lifeblood of this shit. No one wants to come into a game like this where people with 3000 hours just stockpile shit endlessly
It is so fucking over the aesthetic isn't even bad but it has nothing to do with Marathon
>players get to be part of the narrative
I'm really curious what they mean by this considering all the schizo conspiracy AI lore and ARG stuff.
Well talking about how a team could find a key to unlock a zone, and then they could unlock it for everyone is probably the next evolution of Destiny raids. Multi-stage puzzles in the world you can complete, and also kinda leans into the AQ stuff WoW did back in the day.
the idea of finding some ruins and being the first person in the world to uncover some fucked up neon dungeon is kind of cool. I'm warming up to this
Don't get your hopes up. There's likely a single environment (What remains of UESC Marathon) and that's it.
They've confirmed multiple maps and the first one will be on Tau Ceti itself
If we get to explore Lhowon (I don't care if it doesn't make sense to go there) I will buy 7 marathon shirts from the Bungie store. I've wanted a proper 3D exploration of Lhowon for so long.
You basically play as a BOB in the reboot
You have basically zero chance of that when every streamer under the sun is going to set their army of sycophants onto the game to do the job for them
And it's smoke and mirrors regardless
I don't think its entirely smoke and mirrors, they don't do PTRs for Destiny unlike WoW so the raids/puzzles come out fresh for everyone. I think they would have to do some clever shit to make data-mining not be a massive problem in that type of open-world puzzle solving though.
The massive leak that shows they announced the current season about a year in advance tells me it's probably not as fresh for everyone as it may appear
>marathon is a chudcore game now
make it stop
>seasons
>basically nfts
Whoa I'm pogging already
Cheap tarkov ripoff covered in modern Bungie slop. Great.
Have any of these devs even fucking played Marathon kek
I wish I had died before I could've seen any of this shit, I would have died happy. Now I'll die after having seen too many of the shit I like get ruined.
destiny 3 basically
those who like destiny will like it, not my thing, and not a marathon game
It does appear to draw a lot from what they have been doing in destiny for a while.
Or perhaps I should say destiny was and is the testbed for functionalities meant for this game
yeah, its going to be the destiny 2 raids but with some pvp sprinkled in and extraction points like tarkov
it will provably sell well if it isn't completely broken at launch, then they will maintain it for a few years until it burns out
>dedicated servers
lmao can't do that in destiny those fucks are so incompetent I can't wait for creatively named error codes
>that's it
Nah, go fuck yourself Bungie. Literally desecrating a beloved name just to push your shitty extraction shooter that has NOTHING to do with Marathon
The chud working there care nothing about the past of Bungie because they will die before even getting to the same age as Bungie
>beloved name
>Marathon
I mean, marathon was good but lets not get ahead of ourselves by saying it was "beloved"
Seriously. 90% of this board played the game on Xbox 360 or whatever zoomer console it came out on, and even back when it came out the game was just ok and coasted on the gimmick of being Apple exclusive.
99% of this board hasn't played any of the games
I'm actually really excited for it
#BoycottBungie
Looking back now, I think Halo would've been so much worse if Bungie was still doing them as baffling as that would sound.
You could tell by Reach they were running out of steam for the franchise, but I don't think it's possible for them to fuck up as badly as 343 did.
Marathon was actually pretty vibrant at times. Durandal in particular. But that was relegated to the Pfhor segments which really gave them an otherworldly feeling.
I'm guessing this is just going to have a unified art style though.
One thing I always disliked about Infinity is that that they retconned this look for the Pfhor ships.
Are the Pfhor even in nu-Marathon?
Only Compilers have been confirmed so far.
If you scrapped out the names from the setting, this wouldn't look out of place if it was instead a spinoff of Destiny. Nobody would even question it,
Destiny is literally an alt universe of Marathon, as was heavily implied since before D1 even launched
Lolwat the 30th anniversary pack was a set of armor, 2 not halo guns and gjallarhorn in a shitty dungeon
It's not an entire set of marathon reference
>armor for hunter was the Security Officer set
>titan got pfhor set
>warlock got a s'pht compiler set
>shotgun and grenade launcher from marathon, and a ton of direct references to marathon oni and halo in the added game mode
They clearly been prepping the fan base for this I don't know what to tell you anon
Yeah it's the 30th anniversary package for their entire output not just marathon
Also that security set belonged to titans
That we knew it was coming has nothing to do with that
No, Hunters got the Deimosborn (Security Officer) set, Titans got the Pfhor warrior set.
The majority of the items and references in 30th anniversary were to Marathon, and even before 30th there were other references like MIDA and even the lab on Venus back in D1. Again this is clearly an idea that's been on the back burner for a while
I know who got what I'm saying titans should have gotten it
Nah Titans make more sense as the behemoths the Pfhor were supposed to be
I kinda wish the hunter set was a little better though, every piece but the helmet and arms is kinda lame
I think Destiny actually fits a modern reimagining of Marathon's art in some ways. Destiny is very colorful and the aliens all have distinctive aesthetics. The Fallen basically look like upgraded Pfhor
I wish the arcology on titan looked like that
But the dungeon is underwater and therefore lame
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Please wait for gameplay footage.
Its going to be an Extract Shooter, what else is there to wait for? even if it has gimmicks its still a piece of dying shit. Extract shooters aren't popular and this game will stand on its own two legs since destiny and halo wont carry it.
Please wait.
Extraction shooters are far more popular than Marathon lmao
And what is this supposed to imply? a series that concluded in 1996 is not as popular as entire genre of games that were barely introduced into the market 5 years ago? jeez nice insight you got there.
>Its marathon
How did he come to the conclusion in a game that looks nothing like marathon
Chris Ray Gun is a genuine brainlet. Listening to him speak makes me want to punch a hole through my computer, which is a shame because I enjoy the other two guys on the podcast he does with Moriarty. I think I've just had it with zoomers who know nothing about video games and aren't afraid to out themselves.
Chris is 31, he is a millennial
Christ, then his milquetoast and uninformed opinions on video games are even worse.
Because the original games also had wacky color design, see
and because this has been leaked for like a year after the 30th anniversary dlc came out in Destiny 2
>most of the actual game stuff shown was just fucking concept art
>more discussion about the seasons and pvp than what the actual game is like
>No seriously, what is the lore? what is going on on fucking tau ceti?
I've never seen more red flags in a single video than I've seen with both bungie and 343 in the past ten years; dear lord
These new guys look like fucking pussies. The Officer would rip them to pieces
Why is the SO drawn so inconsistently? I actually like the trenchcoat design.
>Why is the SO drawn so inconsistently? I actually like the trenchcoat design.
The real world reason is that Craig Mullins drew the concepts back during the infant stage of digital painting, before concept art in gaming was a properly standardized profession.
In-universe the explanation is that the security officer is a reality hopping supersoldier, he works with whatever is on hand wherever he ends up
Somebody check on Hop and make sure he's OK 🙁
>Not one anon has mentioned that this looks like that Hyena game from Sega.
we live in a society where the biggest multiplayer shooters are overwatch and fucking valorant, i don't mind having something new to play
Most of anons here would dare you to actually play Marathon trilogy and imagine for yourself what it would look like if a fourth installment would come out today. I guarantee you, it would not be like this.
>i don't mind having something new to play
there are hundred of multiplayer shooters out there you fucking cocksucking coomsumist piece of shit
>Twitter hates it
Yeah they're ready
OG Marathon had a gritty, surreal atmosphere. This is just fucking stupid. I hate it beyond any measurement of rage
I think people are missing the bigger picture by saying "Well you didn't play on release so you are not a fan of the series" when Marathon became a cult game that was shared around in various FPS related forums around the mid 2000's. I think that if you interacted with the classic FPS community, you have heard of Marathon at some point.
These marketers don't seem to realize "hey this old FPS game is completely free and open source and on every operating system" means more people got to play it.
so runners are def repurposed battleroids right
>female devs
>Pronouns everywhere
I miss the old halo 3 bungie working hard frat bros team we didn't know how good we had it in 2007
It stems from a modern sociological phenomena where women are extremely overrepresented in behavioral departments so female competitive strategies are more rewarded in a corporate space rather than the male counterpart.
This game just feels wrong, I think its in everyone's best interest that it does not take off or even come close to being popular because I feel like Bungie are jumping the shark and letting their confidence from turning Destiny around get to them
>beloved trilogy
this is just an insane claim to make
Matter only ever was a codename
I'm going to be the devil's advocate and say that Extraction shooter offers a little bit more flexibility for the game. We can get PvE and possible story missions while still being able to get killed by other players. Will it play out like this? Probably not, but I'm SOMEWHAT hopeful this is a good game.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/slrecap
Doesn't look like it
It was a cult classic anon, by definition most people knew nothing about it.
