>SW Legion player >Interested in MCP >AMG announces Shatterpoint, "updated" MCP starter, and plans to "update" Legion minis
Double-dip BS irritates me and AMG is in full "buy it twice" mode right now.
I kinda agree but I think the new core set was warranted, they've changed a ton both game design wise and in miniature quality. The difference between OG Spider-Man and the new Spectacular Spider-Man is night and day, same with Ultron.
I played Shatterpoint, it's little brother.
Like Crisis prototcol I'm not fan enought to collect minies of those IP, but I have to Admit: Shatterpoint is one of, if not , the best skirmish game I played up to date.
It's relatively easy to pick up, deep to play. Very generous space to mix forces. You got high mobility, low lethality, medium to quick game duration.
The active use of terrain height, zone control and random activation give a good replayability. Build diversity and tree structure damage effect let you bite deeper in the game if you want to.
I wish I was more into capestuff or Star wars. At least we have a blast playing with my friend's collection. We used it to introduced some of our friend to miniature and it was a hit.
It actually is fun yeah. The mini prices are extortionate though. I do like you can make themed teams and they have rules to work together and are usually decent.
the only thing that matters is the mini's base, not the mini, your mini being taller than a car means nothing
fall damage doesn't exist
everything is meassured in horizontal axis, you could be in a 100cm tall building and attack on melee against someone on the street no problem
I've been looking into this for a while, Will P is the man who unfucked Skorne so I trust his game design. If any locals were interested I'd already be playing but it's hard to build a player base from scratch and I'm already trying with Battletech and Gaslands. There's the usual pushes (there's 3 Steves, 3 Tonys, 2 carols, 2 stranges, 3 peters) but then they have characters like Omega Red or Beta Ray Bill or Dr Voodoo or Hood or Mr.Sinister who aren't exactly mainstream darlings. There's an acre of XMen and there's about to be more. I haven't played it yet, but it looks good at a glance. At least Red Skull/Magneto isn't meta anymore because that made no sense, those two should hate each other.
Hey! I wanted some advice for this game in regards of itself. I want to get into it but ive read and watched some YT videos about it and it says that its shit and bad balanced boxes or something.
Anyone can give me any advice witht this game? I want to try it out with my friends but the competitive or the game itself in nonexisting in my LGS.
Is it worth to play casually with my friend group (2 - 4 individuals) ?? And if so, how is the best way to get into it ?
I suggest a core, either the new one or the old one, since that gets you the dice and templates and terrain and 10-11 minis. If you're going with a group thing I'd try to get both cores, old and new, for two sets of everything and your choice of the included characters. For example; I prefer old Zemo and most of the old avengers, but I prefer new Ultron and most of the newer versions of the Cabal characters. Old Spidey is kind of bad, doc Ock serves well in either form.
From there find out what your friends want to collect and see if there's an affiliation box for them, XMen, Brotherhood, Asgard, Criminal Syndicate, Hydra, Guardians of the Galaxy, whatever. I'm sure everyone has a favorite. If they don't have a pack (and many don't) you'll have to just buy the character packs and preferably split them.
I use a app called Cerebro to build lists and look at character/crisis/tactics cards so I suggest looking for yourself before you start dropping dosh. There should be an affiliation list on the AMG site.

I'm not overly fond of the current state of marvel and haven't been for over a decade myself. What ended up getting me into this game was how fun it is mechanically. AMG also seems to give more of a shit about the ip (and starwars) than disney and the ones helming those departments do. There's a good mix of A and B listers as well as some literal who's.
Balance is surprisingly solid outside a few outlyers, but they do have a ban and restricted list for tactic cards (not for characters) and have now done two balance passes where they buff and nerf certain characters. There's still outliers on both ends though as you would expect.
[...]
I'm honestly very impressed with AMG at this point. I played a few games of Shatterpoint too to test it out and that was another IP I didn't give much of a shit about that roped me in with how fun the system is.
[...]
The balance of the game as mentioned above is pretty decent, but there are a few outliers if you get competitive with it. The best way to get into it is to try and find a local shop and see if they do any demo games you guys can test at. Failing that, there's a good TTS mod for it and AMG has all the base sizes and rules on their website for free and you can use sites like mcpdb or cerebromcp to look at the characters and cards while cerebro has a roster builder too.
[...]
The latest core box (OP) is actually pretty good. The last one is still fine, but the new one gives you a lot more build out options as well as everything you need to play yourself or do a pick up game with someone who doesn't have anything by splitting the box in half basically. As much as I like to say support local, never buy MSRP if you don't have to since the prices are nuts. Luckily they've started doing more 4-character boxes which are much better values.
[...]
The old core set still has some good stuff and the characters are being splintered out into 4-pack kits some point in 2024.
This here is generally the recommendation:
[...]
Starting with the core is a good idea, though I'd recommend getting a trial game or two in. Check with your lgs to see if they have anyone that can teach or run you through a game. Failing that, if you have TTS there's a mod for it and AMG has the rules for the game right on their website. They even have base sizes too so you can do with that what you will.
The new core set would be my recommendation as well simply due to the fact you get 5 different leader characters to mess around with over the old core sets 2. Right out of the box you can play Avengers, Shield, Hydra, or Cabal, with a bonus Spider-Foes leader you would have to buy additional models to use. Quite a few affiliations now have 4-character "value" boxes as well.
[...]
The new core set is all new models, tactic cards, and character cards. Totally different from the last one otuside a few reused staple tactic cards. You can really tell the lessons learned in making molds between core 1 and 2 too. I have both, and core 2 is a pretty solid starting point as well as a good add-on for older players too. Your character threat curve is fucked, but the characters are a lot more splashable with more directions to springboard off core 2 than the first one had.
Original core spider-man and crossbones are pretty shit though and original core ultron while a good quality sculpt and card, quickly gets outshined once you start growing your collection with more focused role characters.
Thank you for all the advice! I've just check with most of my LGS's that run minis games and non have or pretend to do in the future MCP for a variety of reason (different reason per store) and probly gotta have to buy anything MCP related in the Capital City or gtfo.
My friends don't like the aidea that nobody else plays the game therefore they dont want to spend the money in the Corebox becasue they wont have anyone to playwith when they want to play with strangers in the LGS.
Could always do tts then I guess. Save a boat load that way. We had a local player who just printed tactic and character cards on his own and 3d printed proxy models too so there's that route as well.

Not sure where you heard that, unless they meant the old core box. Just recently a new core box came out with all the old characters getting new models and rules, kinda negating the old one? The new box is super sweet though, if I didn't already have all the old core stuff I would definitely grab it. The new Ultron, Spidey, and Doc Ock have me tempted to grab it lol.

Been playing for around 3 years now I think. Can't check the thread in detail right now, but feel free to ask any questions you may have and I'll try and answer as many as I can after work.
Note that I mostly play casually in person, though I do have some experience with the competitive side and have placed top 3 in the three (small) tournaments I've done.
Hey, any tips for startring a casual entering to the hobbie? I do play 40K and KT but this i like but find it kinda weird (mostly becuase new thing for me)
I've seen the Core + 3 boxes thingy, is it any ok that or just go witht he Corebox?
The core box is pretty awesome and comes with some great "filler" characters, terrain, dice and measurement tools. You can't go wrong with 3 of your favorite heroes affiliation boxes and the core box, but if you enjoy the characters in the core box then just that is a great place to start.
Very Nice! Wonder what was thta about the core box being shit?
I belive is something about the nerfs or modificacion of the game that makes the Box pretty bad in some way.

Yeah the old core box isnt great anymore, though you can probably pick it up at a HUGE discount now that the new box is out. Old box has two really good characters as well, in Black Widow and Baron Zemo. They do good in every list.
I'd love to get into it but I don't like marvel. I hear the game plays really fucking well though and it's remarkably balanced

I've never played MCP but I like MOBA's and the two seem to share some aspects. Problem is I cannot get invested in Marvel (or SW at this point) so collecting and painting the models would feel... odd
>another skirmish miniature game
>BUT IT HAS NAME BRAND IP
it's all so tiresome
Yeah, slurp that corporate cock!
No, it's calling exchanging currency for goods or services.
I'd love to get into it but I don't like marvel. I hear the game plays really fucking well though and it's remarkably balanced
As long as you don’t want anything to actually happen.
Played it a couple times with my boyfriend, seems pretty good. Decent break from all the middle earth, and historicals we usually do.
