The inexpensive budgets and hardware has already been stated enough.
But another thing is that when people buy a Switch, they buy it for the first-party Nintendo exclusives made by the same company instead of using it as a CoD or FIFA machine. This gives Nintendo all the reason to never put those fricking games on sale because people are always willing to slam down $60 for the newest Pikmin, Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, etc.

It's much more significant when something like Smash sells 30 million copies compared to when Horizon hits that 30 million mark. The latter reaches that number because it constantly goes on sale for like $5 and is packed in with consoles. Combining that with the overinflated budgets is how you end up with all these studios that get shut down after creating a game that sells multimillions.

3rd parties abandoning the Switch was almost a blessing in disguise since it was around the time when 3rd parties started to go all-in on live service shit.

There are tons of non-Nintendo games on the Switch, they are just super expansive, even Battle Brothers is on the Switch, or niche games like Dragon Ball the Breakers. What the Switch doesn't have are those buck breaking homosexual movie game Sony experience, those are not even games they are not missed.

None of those hardware releases are equivalent. The Xbox One S is a refresh with the same processing hardware. The organic success of your company is inversely proportional to the amount of stock that subversive israeli asset managers own in your company. Blackrock and Vanguard alone own about 20%+ of pretty much every western company. They own less than 5% of Nintendo.

I don't think you fully grasp how large the big players are. Nintendo has a ~$65 billion market cap. Microsoft recently purchased actiblizz for $75 billion. Nintendo and all of their subsidiaries and all of their franchises still don't even make as much money as fricking World of Warcraft and CoD. It's not a matter of other companies not having the money to buy Nintendo. It's probably mostly monopoly concerns that prevent Nintendo's acquisition by globalists, and even that won't last forever as globohomosexual continues to rewrite and erode the law to its own ends over time.

          >Nintendo has a ~$65 billion market cap.
To fully buy a company, multiply the market cap by 2X at the MINIMUM. That's assuming nintendo won't make it so the buyout has to be at least a hundred times more than what they're worth, maybe even tiger than that.

            Anonymous

            >To fully buy a company, multiply the market cap by 2X at the MINIMUM.
activision blizzard's market cap was exactly what microsoft paid for it. you don't multiply it by some magic number for no reason. that's literally the value of buying all the existing shares of the company.

              Anonymous

You multiply it because you're trying to buy them out moron. You have to convince the existing shareholders to part with a growing asset so you have to pay more for it.

Also good luck trying to buy out a bunch of Japanese banks and holding companies. They'll bury you in so much bureaucracy your children will have children before you're done with it.

Nintendo doesn't need Square Enix. This isn't the 90s or early 2000s where giant swords, beautiful CGI cutscenes and Gackt were popular.

And honestly, if a company buys Square-Enix, it should be Sony, since they made a point on giving all their content that had potential on flourish on multiple systems exclusively to Sony in almost twenty-five years, with some few and sporadic excessions.

Which more than anything shows the player journalist divide as well as the basis the latter has for sony given it ended up being the best selling title in the series until 11 and even then it's still the best selling game on a single platform and it sold that much because it had a string focus on gameplay and replay ability being one of the more meaty DQ games given the legacy boss content, the amount of side quests and full party customization, not to mention the multiplayer.

If anything, it just showed how focusing on graphics held games back since it probably wouldn't have been as good a game as it was had it been on playstation and it definitely wouldn't have local multi.

Correction: shareholders want to make LINE GO UP, but the TOP investors are still people like Blackrock and Vanguard who want the changes that make LINE GO DOWN for their own agendas. The rest of the shareholders can’t do shit about it unless they are the majority holders (which they aren’t) or unless they sue the companies for blatantly making choices that aren’t profit-driven.

Yeah, reminds me of the MediEvil remake like 5 years ago. Faithful, what a remake should be, but it absolutely flopped and had middling reviews from everyone. It wasn't because the remaster was bad, but because the game itself was MediOcre.

When you buy a Nintendo game you know at worst it's just going to be okay. The worst switch games released were probably Yoshi's crafted world, Pokemon Sword and Princess Peach Showtime. None of these games are bad. In all cases you'll get something satisfying out of it, even if some other areas are poorly made.

When you buy a Square game, or a Capcom game it might be good, or it might suck ass. If you buy a western game it's definitely dogshit. And even when these games are good they're often filled with microtransactions.

One thing that I've noticed is that unless you're Mario or Zelda, Nintendo has absolutely no problem making the fanbase go through a drought before they make another game. There are properly abandoned franchises, but usually Nintendo does enough shit to remind people that they haven't forgotten about an IP which keeps people coming back in the hopes that this direct/year will be the one where they announce a new [insert franchise].
Then when they do pull the trigger the fanbase goes mental and violently throws money at the company depending on how long they've been waiting. If F-Zero got an announcement at this upcoming direct, every F-Zerogay would probably have a seizure and instantly pre-order the $120 special edition.

Meanwhile when Sony had a hit with TLoU it got a same gen sequel, spinoffs, dlc and remastered editions on top of the non-vidya media. They tend to heavily ride that trend until everyone gets burned out on it, then they just bin the franchise forever or pass it off to some other studio that proceeds to then frick up that IP.

      Anonymous

That's been Sony's thing since the PS1: ride a franchise to exhaustion until the end of the gen and then start anew. They only stopped doing that recently.

        Anonymous

It's a shame they do that because they have a lot of IPs that could've been massive long-term money makers if they didn't keep banging the table for sequels like
        >MORE CRASH SEQUELS, WE NEED THEM NOW
to the point that the creators ended up fatigued with their own creation. Then you end up with a studio like Naughty Dog that feels like they're too "mature" to make another Crash or Jak & Daxter because of the turnover and how hard they had to ride platformers in the past.

Fire Emblem is another franchise I forgot to mention getting lots of games, but that's because IS is on the other side of that coin where they're absolutely autistic about their franchise and will happily make another Paper Mario/Warioware if that means Nintendo will give them more money for another round of anime chess.

          Anonymous

I think that Sony is kind of forced to do this because they don't have that many IPs. Nintendo can wait 10 years to make a sequel to a game because they have so many other games to release.

            Anonymous

They used to have plenty and they squandered a lot of them. Now their current active IPs are MUCH smaller than what they used to have back in the PS3 era, it's amazing.

Nintendo is also weirdly creator-driven. Their various internal developers and external partners usually have to come to them and express an idea to the executives first. I'm pretty sure the only things they mandate from on high are
          >New 3D Mario
          >New 2D Mario
          >New 3D Zelda
          >New Smash

Nintendo, by design, makes engaging with them an emotional roller coaster. Even big franchises like Mario have created distinct gameplay styles that, combined with Nintendo's desire to experiment, make it so individual fans get maybe one game that truly taps into their preferences once every 15 years. Even a game as strictly iterative as TotK has people who declare BotW the better game.

At least I know you didn't read the article. It was actually a survey for total brand loyalty. 1008 were surveyed of multiple generations, likely from america. Around 33% of the us had a console at the time so make that like 330 people. If you genuinely think this is a number that can even remotely represent the gaming industry you are moronic

      >Market research? What's the point of doing that?

Sure, there is the issue of time lag between market research results and actual user demand when a game is released. But Nintendo creates the market. There's no need to conduct research anywhere.

There are many companies with the technology to create game software. However, truly talented and experienced individuals are extremely rare. The fact that there are few people who can create excellent games means that there are many who can create subpar games. If we leave the market to such people, anything with potential will be destroyed. The more companies compete, the more they will inevitably produce a large number of games, trying to win with the variety of software. This leads to a flood of similar, subpar game software in the market. When there are many subpar games (also known as 駄作), consumers become uncomfortable. Once that happens, the entertainment market will collapse in the blink of an eye. In order to prevent the market from collapsing due to subpar games, we had no choice but to "monopolize."

Yeah there’s all the old famicom and sufami JRPGs that jap boomers would buy buy that’s not worth taking on a ton of debt to buy square just to onboard 20% of the company and fire the rest lol. Nintendo is struggling off the most. Sony too but they're in California and New York, and they're the first to get dibs on the money printing machine.
If Nintendo falls, Sony plays, "Do I fall too?" Like a moron. It's an extreme clown show from Sony. Still. No heavy investments coming to its VR headsets. It's extremely fabricated. I don't know what Sony has planned for its studios, and if they're dependent on anybody else getting out of the business. Like a moron.

Nintendo hasn't been that sort of arrogant "try to swing your dick around" company since the N64. Their mistakes since then have been genuine mistakes and failed gimmicks. They're not like Sony where they get a "we're too big to fail" mentality the second they achieve any sort of success.

They really think that Nintendo will go into "arrogant" mode again, where they think that they don't have to advertise the system properly or think they will try to use the Switch branding to sell the next console, as they tried to do between the Wii and Wii U, only for them to realize that the normie is a fricking moron that thought it was an addon.
They seem to think that Nintendo doesn't learn and evolve from their previous mistakes and will continue to flounder as soon as they hit a good patch and that their declines couldn't have been caused by anything else going on at the time.

    Japan has better employee protection

Despite shareholders still being cancer over there, they're a little less willing to forego honor and pride completely. Especially with this particular company, which is possibly the pride of Japan in terms of media.

The video games segment isn't all of their eggs in this basket. If they had a loss, the merchandise would make up for it.

They have a very convenient fan base full of zealots who shill and AstroTurf for free.

The people who would be in the same boat as Japan studios (Sony) and tango (Ms) are just contractors instead of employees in Nintendo's case.

They're nowadays very risk-averse in terms of both software design, budgets, and product pricing.

    Etc.

The Switch 2 will be the most "current" in power since the Gamecube. Nintendo has made games around those power limitations for over 15 years. TOTK was probably the only game that could be considered "AAA budget" from Nintendo.

  94. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

I typed this up before realizing this was another bait repost, so might as well post it anyway.

Other publishers hemorrhage money by financing AAA slop which occasionally flop hard. It's a risk Nintendo doesn't have simply because it just makes fricking remakes nowadays and instead relies on digital-only indies to fuel their underpowered (and thus cheap to manufacture) console.

First, why even bring up another DRM machine? They all suck. Second, I can count on my fingers the amount of AAA titles Nintendo has put out in years. Other than Mario, it has been just Bayonetta 3, a new Fire Emblem, TotK (which is just a BotW expandalone), and the latest Pokemon gen, which is an utter shitshow (like the gen before it). I can't fault them for moving away from the money pit which AAA has become, but this is undeniable.

Nintendo's entire structure is internal, they aren't shipping out to external companies for MOST content. They make exclusives, and market their devices as the only way to play stuff and incentivize sales. And it works. Brand recognition for mario and zelda is enormous and carries the system on it's own, and it has other benefits too.

    >Nintendo games don't cost more than Hollywood films to make
Maybe if other devs stopped with the 200+ million budgets on shit games nobody wants they wouldn't have to fire half their staff every few years.

    >every other developer: we’re going to make ADULT games for ADULTS! NO KIDS!
    >soft times end and the adults have to actually work and shit, no time for games
    >children still play games because they are kids duh, child labor is illegal
    >parents won’t buy weird zoophile pedo games for their kids
    >WTF WHY IS NO ONE BUYING MY COOL ADULT GAMER GAMEZ???

It sure was nice of Sony and Microsoft to clear out of 2024 and have absolutely nothing to release so Nintendo can have the spotlight to themselves to announce and showcase their new console, I'm sure they appreciate that.

Maybe because Nintendo makes games and not movies where you click a button sometimes.

Nintendo is always a generation late. I expect them to start laying off people in 5-8 years

Blackrock is federal by function. The whole "they're private" schtick means nothing in the investment market.

No I will not take meds that will make me ignore the reality of how the bloated finance world works. Go read The Fiat Standard and get back to me.
