it may well be a bait thread but the premise is correct
that's more about how good the game is though and not how bad the ps1 ones are, although x5/6 are pretty bad

Mega Man and Bass isn't even as good as the game it stole its sprites from.

Sometimes I wonder why Megaman & Bass was originally on the SNES when it was on its last legs, rather than the PS1 and Sega Saturn in 1998/1999, respectively?
For that matter, why wasn't there a version of Megaman 7 for the Sega Genesis along with what the SFC/SNES got?

Lot of kids in Japan had an SNES as a hand-me-down, so there were still games made for it for them (from digital download stands and some physical releases), just like how it also was for American kids pre-Gen 5. At least that's the official story from Capcom for this game (who, notably, were used to making 2D games, contrary to Sony's insistence on 3D games at the time). Some games were already in development by several companies for SNES before and after PlayStation launched, as well, so, many games deemed to be successful sellers were still released for it even after PS/Saturn were released.

As for the Genesis thing, Wily Wars was developed for it probably as an easy game to develop to test the waters for the Mega Man series on Genesis. Mega Man 7, a brand-new entry, was developed only for SNES likely because Genesis was a more niche console in Japan.

The mega drive was a flop in japan and the original wily wars was not that good in gameplay and NO, aint talking about the PAL version.

Inafune and others have explained multiple times through the years that it was a consolation prize for kids who had hand me down SNES, and the holdouts who weren't ready to move on to the new generation yet. It wasn't exactly an expensive project either, it reuses quite a bit of assets from 8 for a reason.

Megaman fans are too autistic to make a thread about their favorite game, they just shitpost about every other being inferior instead.

    Frick Legends, 8 and X4.

the gba version is why this game has such a bad rep imo. mostly just screen crunch. the original version is actually of the best 2d mega man games

      Anonymous

GBA version's lack of a dash button for Bass is really annoying but it's a completely workable version otherwise, I never really got the hate on it. The soundtrack is miles better and the screen crunch doesn't make it unplayable by any means. Back when I didn't know any better I didn't notice it and the game was perfectly beatable without me ever noticing anything particularly unfair.

        >GBA version's lack of a dash button for Bass is really annoying
Would be great for a hack to be made enabling this. It's the reason I didn't buy it back in the day.

the music is godawful what are you on about
it's like a frankenstein 8bit/16bit combined with the gba's shitty sound quality

Who gives a shit? It's fricking Game Boy, what did you expect? The issue is the fricking bad controls (and no extras).

It sounds way, way better than whatever the frick the Super Famicom soundtrack is meant to be.

A handful of tracks are about the same level of quality but then there's absolute trash fires like the King/Wily boss battle theme that were rescued by the GBA version. Granted I don't think MM7 has a very good soundtrack either, which is strange because MMX's is utterly phenomenal and kicks the shit out of what they whipped up for MHX.

        >I never really got the hate on it
Lots of leaps of faith, lots of pauses because of the auto save feature, only thing going for it was the official translation and even that was atrocious

          Anonymous

          >Lots of leaps of faith
I will say that King Plane as Megaman is even more brutal on GBA due to the limited screen space since you have nearly no time to recover if one of the flashbangs goes off. I guess I'd have to revisit the game and see if there's bullshit I'm just not remembering other than that. A lot of the stage design seemed to work well within the limited space given.

          >lots of pauses because of the auto save feature
It takes a split second. If it wasn't for text standing out so much it'd almost be unnoticeable. Weird complaint.

will we get a spin-off collection with Mega Man games that weren't included in the other collections? I mostly just want MM & Bass, still baffles me it wasn't included in neither of the 2 volumes of the legacy collection, counting it already had a SNES emulator and a translation because of the GBA port

      Anonymous

This. They should make a Legacy Collection 3 with this, the GB games (preferably colorized), and as many spinoff games and extra features as possible in it (including a translated version of the Japanese version of Battle & Chase and all the extras from the PlayStation releases of the first 6 games).

The X series got really dicey with its more experimental entries but other than that you're spot on. And I don't think anyone reasonable would be willing to die on a hill for X7. I don't get the competitiveness between subseries myself, almost all of the games are a lot of fun and have their own ups and downs.

Good as frick taste, man. Just so you know, you will probably like the GBC Xtreme games. X6 is way better than X5 and yet more broken than it, hilariously. X7 is way worse than X5, somehow. X8 is good, I thought. Command Mission is kind of cool yet slightly mediocre.

Also MM10 is better than MM9.

I remember finding this as Rockman & Forte on a ROM site (circa 2001-2002) wondering what the frick it was. I knew about the Rockman/Megaman thing so I checked it out, some other sites listed it as Mega Man 9 which is funny in hindsight.

Really fricking difficult, it's pretty fun though and the visuals are some of the best on the console
