its a kids game
Zero 1 sucks donkey dick, people pretend it's good because they played it as kids.
The bosses (not the designs) suck ass, the levels suck ass, the music is repetitive and ass, everything sucks.
The jump in quality from Zero 2 onwards is insane though, Zero 2 is currently one of my favorite GBA games and I played them all recently in a row like 2 years ago because a friend who grew up with them recommended them.
I was about to skip Zero 1 but he told me suffer through it because Zero 2 would hit different after it and it sure fucking did.
There is also this whole thing with some franchises making me feel nostalgia towards them without having played them as a kid, dead space does it to me, mmz does as well.
Not really liking zero 2, guess it's because I'm trying my hardest to get everything on my first run.
They tried to do a Metroidvania which is very bold for a first game but I think they should’ve played it safe. The most annoying thing is lives, they are hard to come across and they aren’t as frequent as you think.
I think Zero 1 is good and I just played it recently. The sequels are way better, but Zero himself feels good to control in any game, and the stages and bosses are just unremarkable in my opinion, for the most part. The whole thing of it being possible to permanently fail a mission and the Elf system, which they unfortunately kept until 3, are the only things about it I particularly don't like. Other than that, it's okay, which still puts it well below its fantastic sequels, but it's still okay.
That game's pretty good, but MMZ2-4 are incredible.
Fuck no. It's trash. 2-3 are a big improvement tho. Haven't finished 4 yet
4 isn't that good outside of the ending which was fucking Kino
I like 4 a lot, the crafting system is ass, but I like pretty much everything else.
4 has a lot of good ideas like the weather system and having the final game being set in the area where Eurasia crashed is fitting. but then there's shit like the Z-Knuckle that's fucking worthless and some of the level designs bring the game down over all.
its edgekino
I thought certain bosses were too hard. I save scummed the shit out if it.

Me
was megaman zero the only one that restricted what abilities you got based on what rank you had?
I just remember hating the desert stage
Pretty sure Zero 2 was the only one that did that. I don't remember what the system was in Zero 3 but I don't think it was tied solely to your rank. It's been a long time since I ran a fresh save, though. In Zero 4, you got EX skills from beating bosses during disadvantageous weather.
2/3's EX skills are only given out from A/S ranking stages. Though A ranking tends to be a freebe if you can beat a stage w/o dying regardless of how beat up you gotten doing such. 4 introduced the crafting system, and while you don't -need- A/S ranks to make them, without a guide you only learn the recipes to make such + the better armor bits via such.
Mega Man Zero has the usual first game growing pains that most Mega Man and Inti Creates series do.
>Megaman 1 was meh, great sequels
>Zero 1 was meh, great sequels
>X1 is one of the best games ever made, 2 great sequels (X2 and X4) with the rest ranging from meh to bad
Why does it have to be one or the other with this fucking franchise?
Consequence of shitting out games every few months. Say what you want about Inti-Creates but I actually do appreciate that they mix things up instead of pouring it all into the Gunvolt basket.
And they actually you know develop games
megaman is fucking dead
MM11 is the best-selling Mega Man game ever made, they'll return to the IP. They just aren't going to milk it to hell and back like MH/RE/SF; the leader of MM11's development is working on SF6 currently so once that releases it's probably more likely that they'll put something together. Mega Man next to DMC in terms of relevancy, probably more since they at least bother to put effort into the recent Legacy Collections while DMC is basically just going to sit around until what staff isn't currently working on Dragon's Dogma 2 scrounge together a pitch for DMC6. XDiVE's success is a curse though, they probably think it's a stopgap between actual platformers.
After taisen turned out to be nothing I have no hope left. I guess its going to be one game every 7 years if we are lucky from now on.
Taisen was probably Battle Network Legacy Collection's codename since they added online multiplayer to it.
I seriously doubt they'd give a fucking glorified rom collection a secretive code name, even if they're adding some work to it.
>After taisen turned out to be nothing
We don't know that yet as the plandemic has delayed a lot of shit, which Capcom themselves admitted it and Street Fighter 6 is more proof that shit got delayed than originally planned.
It's clear COVID fucked over that leak list since it's from before lockdown, but SF6 was delayed more for the early drafts of the gameplay being dogshit under Ono (like the first two years of V and his original builds of 4 before Seth Killian risked his job to say it sucked), so they refreshed the devteam and delayed it while using an extra season of SFV to experiment.
It's weird because Mega Man seems like a series that lends itself better to milking than RE, but that's the one they milk. I know it's because it's a bigger, more popular series, but it's still a bit weird.
they already milked mm to near death in the early 00s
I will kindly remind you all that there are over 130 Mega Man games. They ran that shit into the fucking ground and burned out nearly all goodwill and interest towards it. Mega Man 11 is the best selling Mega Man game since 2. TWO. MM2 came out 30 years ago and it took them this long to make another game that topped it in sales.
There should be 130 more.
I just don't get it man, maybe I'm just old but fuck Mega Man was EVERYWHERE in the 90s and 00s. Capcom and Inafune specifically ran that IP into the fucking ground, there's dozens of games and only maybe a third of them are any good in the first place on top of the constant anime merch and other multimedia. Couple that with Inti Creates moving on and Inafune's departure and the general lackluster performance of the IP and it's no wonder Capcom isn't really trying to rush headlong into it.
I grew up with SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT, MEGAMAN cartoon so I know I was there I just never had enough of the blue bastard
>over 130 Mega Man games
Of those how many are actual mainline games though and how much is shit like Soccer or B&C? Like I'm actually curious, MM definitely doesn't have as many spin offs as some franchises but I can't imagine the main releases for each series add up to more than a few dozen.
idk about other anons I'm an older zoomer so I got into Mega as a secondary through Bob & George and flash games and shit. It was very much a big part of my childhood but I missed out on Mega Man's real heyday, so I've always experienced Mega Man as a franchise kind of neglected by its creators - though I do remember MM9 feeling like a fucking massive deal.
>13 (unique) Classic games
>8 X games
>4 Zero games
>2 ZX games
NON-PLATFORMER SPIN-OFF POWER GAP
>2 Legends games
>6 Battle Network games
>3 Starforce games
Way fucking less than a hundred and fucking thirty.
A fucking ton of them are Japan only trash spinoffs and old mobile games.
>6 Battle Network games
Just off the top of my head you're forgetting 2 of them
We're talking mainline only, I'm aware of the two BN platformers.
And BTCC and 4.5
you forgot the game boy games but yeah I dont know where the 130 comes from
Phone games, ports, maybe some pachinko machines.
I think the amount of actual Mega Man games released by Capcom that can be considered canon comes out to forty-something, but when that's divided between several spin-offs it isn't as bad as it sounds.
Probably has something to do with the mindset behind the game. X1 at the time was considered an experiment and they hit a home run. Meanwhile MM1 and MMZ were taken more seriously and as a result didnt do as well
I like all of them
People like the sequels not that one
It only sucks if you trying to s rank it, use those cyber elves
Weapon upgrade system and ludicrous e-crystal inflation aside, i quite enjoy Z1 for being the first game. The plot was a pretty good way to get me hooked to the Zero series
Have you given thought to obtaining proficiency?
The only hard part is the first boss but once you get past him it's actually pretty easy if you use cyber elves. Unless you're trying to do a cyber elf-less run which...yeah no shit it's going to be harder.
All mega man games fucking suck, not being able to shoot up is plain dogshit.
Metal Slug was fucking bodies Megaman
Mega Man is a platformer and enemy and stage design are made with you not being able to shoot upwards in mind. Plus with Zero you have angled coverage with the Z-Saber so aerial enemies are actually less of a threat. Not to mention the various weapons Mega Man gets that can cover different angles. Metal Slug on the other hand is purely running and gunning so platformer is, for the most part, ancillary to the experience. The nature of Metal Slug's challenge is different is all.
>COME ON, BOY!
Z2 > Z4 > Z3 > Z
Z3 is just Z2 but worse by almost every metric, Z2's handful of faults in level design don't ruin it. Z4 on the other hand overhauled a lot of the systems for the better; yes Knuckle and the Weather system are good. Zero 1 took a lot of risks that mostly flopped but I respect it for that, the mission-based structure just didn't work.
Play as Bass then. MM&B and MM10 are underrated.
>Metal Slug
Can't be mad at somebody who appreciates MS so carry on.
>Z3 is just Z2 but worse by almost every metric,
Objectively wrong.
Outside of lightening up some on the ranking system, everything it changes in terms of mechanics and level design from 2 is just a little bit worse (underwater library is the worst level in the Zero series easily), and I find the story really unsatisfying despite the big climax since Omega not looking like MMX-era Zero confirming that the MMZ design is a retcon and not a new body was stupid, and the Guardians just being said to have died in the explosion with basically a handwave while Weil lived is a bummer too. Z2 & Z4 have the best plot beats, particularly 2's intro and 4's ending.
Also Z2 easily has the best OST, Z2 is one of the best OSTs Capcom has ever put out in their history and one of the best of all time. Classic after classic that made you forget the limitations of the GBA soundchip.
Honestly out of all Inti Creates games I personally only find Mega Man 9 and ZX 1's OSTs and some of the vocal tracks from Gunvolt to be memorable, not that the rest are bad or anything they're just not that catchy or memorable to me.
MM9 is actually very close, I just think that like much of MM9, sticking to that NES aesthetic too closely held Inti back somewhat. I don't really have an attachment to ZX and Gunvolt as a whole passed me by although I think I'll try a select few at some point. Tracks like Departure, Ice Brain, Sand Triangle, etc. are just top shelf shit personally.
>and Gunvolt as a whole passed me by although I think I'll try a select few at some point.
If you do then make sure to avoid the lesser versions, which are highlighted in the important notes sections.
That's the image that had me thinking about it. To me it sounds like I'd like 2, 3, iX, & Burst. It's weird that Inti's top IP is probably actually GalGun more than Gunvolt given that it's bled into their sidescroller work multiple times now.
How do I see this on my phone? Shows up blurry.
You stop being a phoneposter
Z2 fucks up by having a completely forgettable final boss track. Z3 and Z4 completely fix that, and Z3 has a snow theme just as a good as ice brain
I think GV3 has a great soundtrack personally
I agree about the plot and the stages, Z3 has really weak stages, but I wouldn't call it Z2 but worse. Z3's mechanics are better with the Satellite Elves and a better combo system than Z2 where you'll largely just do charged slash>charged rod. The Recoil Rod is cool too.
All metal slug games fucking suck, not being able to shoot diagonally and in locked directions is plain dogshit. Contra Shattered Solder fucking bodies Metal Slug.
Just go up and down with the heavy machine gun
different genre, you might as well compare it to a basketball game, metal slug is a run and gun with barely any platforming which is good because it has atrocious jumping for it to be a platformer
MMZ is only good once you get the charge shot and sword attacks. The games push you to speedrun stages but you only get the tools later on in MMZ 1. There can be a very frustrating loop in MMZ1 where you just run forward in stages, facetanking enemies coming into the screen too quickly to react but then always getting health pickups since they become more common the lower your health. I think 2-4 improved on these things, as well as making it easier to get special abilities. Also, play with save states or the collection's special checkpoints. Don't bother doing it the hard way unless you specifically want the frustration.
It's cool and looks good. I like how it's less kiddy than the X games
They have better taste than you.
First Game Syndrome
Do yourself a favor and just start with 2 and 3 and maybe 4 those don’t that “first game syndrome” it’s a shame too because X got it right on his first game.
Or you can just watch this guy suffer and play it for you so you don’t have to.
>X got it right on his first game.
And then immediately nosedived after to be the worst Mega Man series. I don't know how X even has fans when only 3 of the damn games are good. And no, 3 is not one of them.
I like when the funny sword go swoosh and cut sigma's health bar into pieces
Understandable
Probably because those 3 good ones are really good. I think half of the X fans out there are only really fans of the first game anyway.
fuck that ninja guy from the first one
>shows up once
>has no weakness
>tries to kill you upon death
>fucking dies and never comes back
>has the shittiest model in ZX
>never comes back
you never played these games then?
Filtered, but the first game is definitely not the best from the whole series so it's fine
2 and 3 were peak tho
Playing them in order, taking a break from Z2 to play other games.
Can you replay levels in these? I know the ones after 1 have better powers tied to rank and I wanna know if I can go back and try them over and over to get them.
You can replay levels but bosses stay dead, meaning you can only get an EX Skill or Form on your first clear.
Zero for Smash 6 anyone?
I don't get it
Get good
my favorite mega man games are 5 and x3
am I retarded?
I really really like 5 because it was the first one I beat as a kid so it has a special place in my heart.
I really like the robot master selection too.
It's the only game in the NES hexology with a good charge shot
Fuck 4 and its garbage shot. Fuck 4 in general.
People who are really bad at mega man games praise it for the "lore".
I liked this series, especially the sequel though the third game was the first i fully completed
i loved it even despite all its flaws. maybe its just not for you, especially if you dont like any of the more polished entries in the zero series.
game was actually pretty tough but i beat it
never played the other games in the series, does the cyber elf cringe go away ever/what are the best games in the series
>does the cyber elf cringe
No and frankly thats what holds the game back
Because using cyber elves will literally give you a big fat F on the score screen.
>what are the best games in the series
3 > 4 > 2 >>>1
in my opinion
>Because using cyber elves will literally give you a big fat F on the score screen.
Exactly what you deserve for using handicaps, but Z3 and 4 had a good system even for shitters like you anyway.
NTA but I don't like the idea of systems that punish the player for using them. I'd rather it not be included at all.
I got A's and S' doesnt mean i dont like getting stronger as i play instead of being stuck in an unchanging game mode.
I want to be able to do a spinning saber slash(which they gave you for free in ZX) or a extra attack on the Z saber.
>I want to be able to do a spinning saber slash(which they gave you for free in ZX) or a extra attack on the Z saber.
Then earn it, God fucking forbid a game rewards skills.
the GBA's screen real estate is just too small for what Zero wans to be and locking abilities behind the autistic scorefagging shit is annoying, especially since the game score is acumulative so if you really blow it in one level you're fucked the entire game.
Not really, considering there's several cyber elfs that put you back on A rank in case you fuck yourself THAT badly.
Doesn't that just put you on A for the stage? I thought it was only really good for getting an EX skill for a specific stage rather than bumping you up to A so you can stay there.
It does the latter if I remember right, you just need to git gud from then on, or use the other ones the game gives you if you continue eating shit.
1 is unnecessarily tedious. 2 dumbs it down a bit by making the Level up shit a lot smoother at the start of the intro stage.
3 and 4 are just great, the problem with 4 though is how the Cyber Elf can dumb down gameplay.
>those remastered tracks they put out for every game
MMZ4 may not be the best in the series but god damn they knocked it out of the park with these arranged tracks
Z4 sucks
>X isn't present and kills off most of the main cast offscreen before the start of the game because ????
>kills off most of the main cast offscreen before the start of the game
What? Who the fuck do you mean, The Guardians? They die at the end of Z3, their deaths aren't randomly established in the opening of Z4.
Why does the chain feel so fucking bad in Z2, am I missing something? Using it for combat is not fun and having to platform with it feels random as to whether or not your jumps will keep any momentum
In combat you mainly just use it for combos, though it has some other uses because of how it stunlocks enemies so it's good against the ball and chain guys or other mid-range enemies. The platforming with it is kind of janky but you typically make your jumps so long as you extend the chain to its fullest, which it isn't always at when you attach.
I see, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks
What made Megaman and Bass so hard?
no etanks
>but 8
8 was a joke and red cross (censored now) rush was a thing
Bass fucking sucks and the level design is kinda bipolar because it has to be made with both of the characters in mind. Also some of the bosses are kind of shit to fight (looking at you Burner Man).
Tons are weird spinoffs definitely, but it's more to say that the people going on about Capcom milking SF, RE, and MH instead of Mega Man are crazy because Mega Man was milked harder than all of those combined while bringing in less revenue in turn.
no e tanks which makes first playthroughs more unforgiving
also the fortress stages suck donkey
All your weapon ammo got refreshed after death in 8 too, including rush's item drops
its good but it definitely isn't perfect
