I'm thinking of writing a 'how to use the modern internet guide' that includes basic shit like pirating, adblock, useful add-ons etc.
But I don't know how to safely monetize it and I'm pretty sure promoting piracy infringes on copyright law in my country.

tech companies streamlining everything to make the user experience more accessible of whatever they say, even a toddler can use a smartphone well enough to download apps and watch youtube videos, you don't have to understand technology in the slightest to use it anymore. look at windows with each version being a dumbed down version of the last with basic features from previous versions made inaccessible by default.

But it's the same thing, let them pay the bills for everyone else.

I can see how one would call NewPipe worse, but it's great for no account yt and downloading
I can see how you'd download some shitty cloned newpipe with malware from first page of google or the play store and consider it horrible as a result
But in 2023 we have Youtube ReVanced
And unlike Vanced they made a one button patcher app so they don't actualy distribute any google IP and are safe probably for decades
the step to set it up are as follows:
            >download revanced patcher from github
            >download microg from that same github
            >download latest recommended version of youtube apk from apkmirror
            >install patcher and microg
            >use patcher to patch youtube apk
            >install revanced apk
            >login

            done, you get:
            no ads anywhere
            background play
            sponsor block
            return youtube dislike
            slide controls
            shorts removed
            and other QoL improvements

you can tinker in the setting of the app for hours to get it personalized, but Im good with stock settings

I have not encountered that. Clicking links works fine for me, the only thing that has stopped working with OG vanced is that I now occasionally get an ad on the home screen, which is annoying but not a deal breaker.

replicate: search for something like a recipe on google, and click any video results at the top. this is the only context where it opens the play store instead of vanced for me. if i text someone a youtube link it will also warn me that youtube is not installed any time the link comes into the viewport. i actually don't have youtube app installed i just assumed vanced is set up to handle all youtube links.

i had to think it was programmed this way on purpose to be viciously anti-competitive. if revanced fixes this i'll install it.

i know there is probably a setting that fixes this natively i just don't frickin care enough to bother.

God I miss those early years of Netflix. Absolutely everything was tossed on there. I don't even care about price I care about availability. I would pay fricking cable TV prices for a very high quality, all encompassing service that just has *everything*. Piracy doesn't even cut it, so few people torrent anymore that it's next to impossible to find good rips of many less popular things, and absolutely impossible to find seeders.
Sometimes you get lucky with those "watch online free" sites but even then, it's a gamble whether you can find less popular stuff that way. Fricking hell.

How about just buying a DVD?

Many less popular shows and movies literally never got dvd releases. And if they did sometimes you just can't find them listed on ebay, and I hate spending money on something physical that I likely will just use once.
I completely agree that dvds at this point are back in style and for great reasons but I wish it wasn't this way.

game piracy has shit the bed pretty hard for old stuff if it's not on gog, like you said there's frick all seeders anymore because all the core people who still give a shit are on private trackers and the poverty stricken Russian/South American/SEA types that made up the bulk of the seeders on public trackers back in the day are now content with playing mindless F2P shite

There are some games that I keep ISOs stored away in an external drive because you can't fricking find any seeded torrents for them anymore. Like AvP 2, I remember I wanted to play that game again some years ago and the only working download I found was some russian torrent with 3 seeds, plus that game isn't sold anywhere because of some copyright bullshit. I don't know if there are other places to download it from now but since it's a game I often replay I'm not gonna risk it, that ISO is staying with me forever.

Most zoomers aren't using that shit any more and have everything uploaded and set up on google drive. Just download a pre-configured game in under 3 seconds and go. The problem is shit like this is often gated behind a discord or some troony has to hamfist their unnecessary mods into it.

I can torrent. Problem is that I'm not taking any safe measures to avoid possible C&D's for doing so, but I have torrented and seeded
The frick is the second thing though
And who doesnt have ad-block? My older sister is a millenial who streams and doesnt have ad-block, fricking told her to do so when she was watching a movie from an online stream site, to which the same excuse was given "if something happens, it happens". People who live under such a dismissive philosophy (and yes, she'd travel to the dirtiest, scummiest country with absolutely little precaution) only face a sense of regret and self preservation until the "bad end" actually happens

It's literally just talking about finding the crack, maybe a cracked exe or whatever, copying it, and pasting it over the original uncracked exe. It kind of blows my mind that you could know about torrents but not know how to apply cracks, but I suppose a lot of torrents nowadays are pre-cracked, so I guess it makes some sense.
Some torrents or downloads come with the game files and the crack seperate, or sometimes you download/otherwise obtain the clean game files and get a crack from somewhere else, then copy/paste it in yourself. That's all it means, there's no secret tech.

The only reason why, is youtube and google blocking content that shows you how to get torrents. If you search for something like that now, you get F2P games and links to forums and videos talking about how you'll get a virus and the FBI knocking on your door if you illegally download anything.
