Metagross

Was this the last "ambiguous monster" that Game Freak ever made?

It's an old man construction worker. The Japanese give drunk people red noses when they're drunk. Also I'm pretty sure it has some pop eye influence. Yes it does look like a horrible abomination I couldn't imagine that thing in a world filled with pokemon it looks like an escaped rapist.

    >ambiguous
It's literally multiple of the previous stage combined.

Metagross is far from ambiguous. Guessing you've never seen Wild Wild West.

Depends what else you count as ambiguous monsters
In my mind nidoran counts because I could never see them as rabbits, and it's not like they're actual rabbits like lopunny and others

My definition of "ambiguous" is that I can't really define it as anything else than what it is.
If I showed Charizard or Dragonite to someone in 1980 and asked them what it was, they'd say "oh, that's a dragon." But if I showed them a picture of a Slowpoke, on the other hand, they wouldn't really know how to describe it. It's a totally unique creature.

      >nidoran
It goes from a monster rabbit to Kaiju style dinosaur

      >What is Slowpoke
It’s like a dinosaur but with Down’s syndrome

Slow Slowpokes line is based off a yokai or something
        Also
        >It’s like a dinosaur
Keyword LIKE, I think that's what OP means. It's not an actual dinosaur, it's not as recognizable as some of the dog mons, it's some abstract approximation of a dinosaur.
If that's not good enough, I think OPs answers are are the DP and BW box legendaries. You can't tell me those resemble any real animals, no matter how much you say llama

Garganacl, Glimmora, and Tinkaton all are contenders from the current generation, maybe Scovillain too depending on how picky you are.

I never ever saw the bulbasaur line as "frogs"

I always saw them as monster pigs for some reason

For me bulbasaur just looked like another turtle

I can kind of see that myself too, especially the plant replacing the shell. For me there was just something piggish about it

I always assumed it was an ambiguous "dinosaur" monster, considering the cat-ear like protrusions on the head.

I tend to favour these types of designs over the more conventional "cartoon animals" motif that a surprising amount of Pokémon fall under. A lot of monster designs are simply creatures lifted from real life with little to no distinct qualities added to them.
