Once someone is labeled as "cancelled", it doesn't matter what the actual, literal law says. "Cancelling" someone on the internet matters more, especially for companies. They'd rather fire someone even if they were found completely innocent in a court of law because they don't wanna be perceived as bad guys.

This is why I doubt the leaks as badly even as much as I want MGR2. Even if you’re proven innocent it’s hard to get unblacklisted or to get back. Even more so for VAs I imagine.

I think Flynn is a different case than Vic, as he had a lot more support in the industry.
Kris Zimmerman (the voice acting director of EVERY english MG games) did had him absent from No More Heroes 3. But this was during the controversy and not after. and Zimmerman even followsh im back on social medias.
Flynn had a bit of a hiatus but he is back in the industry now, being in the new Bleach show https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0283594/

They should've added him back in as bait for double dippers when they ported NMH3 to new platforms last year.
Henry having a different voice wasn't an absolute deal breaker for me, but I lost a lot of respect for Suda.
Almost as much as when I actually played 3 and saw there were no real levels before boss fights. You just fight in the same 3 arenas over and over.

            Anonymous

I never double dipped and waited for the PS4 port because I hate Nintendo and I liked the prospect of paying less for NMH3 without Flynn. He really should've been in there though.

            >Almost as much as when I actually played 3 and saw there were no real levels before boss fights. You just fight in the same 3 arenas over and over.
Frick I hated this. I get that the open world maps were meant to accomodate for that but they really didn't. NMH1 is still the only game in the series with an open world, full levels and their boss battles which is insane to me. I still loved NMH3 though but it's definitely the weakest in the series. 1 and TSA are my favorites.

              Anonymous

              >1 and TSA are my favorites.
Based. TSA doesn't get enough love.
If Suda had just tried to make one game and fused 3's combat with TSA's structure and story, you could've had a game that might've surpassed 1.

                Anonymous

For sure! TSA felt like the Ground Zeroes to NMH3's Phantom Pain. An incredible prologue to an underwhelming sequel.

You think we'll get an NMH4 anytime soon? I'm hoping for Hunter to take on the protagonist handle. Then again Travis achieved immortality thanks to the silver eye so he'll probably look exactly the same even at 42.

                >You think we'll get an NMH4 anytime soon?
I severely doubt it. The IP is co-owned by Marvelous. Suda had to license it just so he could self-publish TSA and 3. That alone was probably a huge headache. Now you have to also factor in that Grasshopper got bought out by the Chinese bugmen ironic and will have to dance to their whims, which likely means leveraging IP they actually have free access to. Expect either something new or a Silver Case thing.

a MGR2 directly by PG + Konami is more likely, even if i'd kill for a MGSR revival.
Kenji Saito, director of MGRR, said he want to make a MGR2 (after directing the abomination of Babylon Fall, I swear, what the hell happened)
and the writer, Etsu Tamari, is still at Konami and thanked fans for making MGRR popular again last year.

But I would not be surprised if Konami does another Silent Hill situation with many project announced. We know from a guy at Konami and exKojipro staff that they worked in the last few years on many project (in general, not just MG) that were never announced due to being canceled, they confirmed just yesterday this happened with the Silent Hill franchise post PT.

This concept art of Survive is rad and really shows they wanted to do more before being restricted by the budget, metal gear acid 1 got a similar situation too. The guy at the bottom reminds me of the Chico concept art of MGSV.

        I blame square enix.

Even if it's actually happening i doubt it'll be as great as the first one without Kojambo's batshit writing

Kojima didn't wrote shit in MGRR. A MGRR staff last year even complained about people crediting the game to Kojima, even the main producer wasn't Kojima, it was Yuji Korekado. (who people shat on for producing Survive, if they knew how much he did for the franchise...)
MGRR writer is Etsu Tamari (still at Konami too)
But I would be more interested to other kind of spin offs, more wacky shit exploring different genre, Korekado was interested in seeing this too. Hell, playing a metal gear hunting other metal gear, that would be rad.

Tamari wrote MGRR. Not platinum games. Cutscenes were by Kobayashi at Konami too. Both still are at Konami.
PG really only handled the gameplay of MGRR and a few design.

Both Kobayashi and Tamari did say they modified their style a bit for MGRR to fit more the style of PG. Both usually do more serious stuff. (the canceled MGSR was extremely dark, enough to be almost unreleaseable in some countries according to staff, and Kobayashi was also directing the cutscenes of Survive which were less wacky.)

fun thing: Survive had design reused from the canceled MGSR game.
But in a big case of irony, most of them got cut AGAIN in Survive. They were finished but for some reasons never were added in the game beside a few dummy files. This includes multiple cyborg bodies.
The only one that managed to make the cut is Miami PMC armor, slightly redesigned by one of the MGRR artist.

a new MG game, MGRR or else, could likely reuse those again. Korekado and Tamari themselves really wanted to revive the old MGSR project as the project was canceled against their wish by Kojima (who wasn't handling the project but he was vice director of Konami at the time + didn't wanted to see them struggle + I suspect he wanted more staff available for MGSV)

      Anonymous

I'm starting to believe that new Rising might really be a thing.
I can only imagine it would be closer to the original concept, and thus people would complain that it's not real Rising because of no wacky Polish prime minister man or memey lines.

        Anonymous

if MGSR is revived, it would be a MGR2. Tamari and Korekado said so in the past, saying "if they try it again, it be by themselves"
PG even really wanted to reuse the MGSR story for MGRR, but Tamari was apparently extremely sensitive about that, telling Platinum Games that their gameplay style do not fit at all for the theme of MGSR. so he made an entirely new story.
A guy who worked on both MGSR and MGRR said "MGRR was fun, but it was shit compared to MGSR, which was a masterpiece.", Korekado also said "MGSR had some of the best boss of the franchise" and even post MGRR, he still was mad about the OG project being canceled.

One of tapes from Survive seems to be meta.

Survive has interesting possible meta messages.
        >Game starts with a team that lost their boss in complete chaos.
        >Some people are brought in another project, having to make a team a bit in chaos
        >this tape
        >the end of the game is the player character accepting he can't go back to the past, and instead need to work better with the new home he got. the final message of the game is a character saying "we will build a better future" after literally retconning out of existence all the events of Survive

I think the staff wanted to play a bit with how Survive was hated by fans, but most people ignored this.

A metal gear VR project also is pretty likely, both Noriaki Okamura (more known for directing/writing ZoE but he also had roles in many MG games) and Yuji Korekado said they had big interest in VR. Okamura even saying he want VR to becomes bigger in the industry and 2023 to be "the year of VR gaming)

it would be really great to get a second game. or even a beefed up remaster (japs are kinda crazy when it comes to re-releases). 5th, 6th and even the 7th gen were such great times and MGR had a big part on why i think about it so positiviely. i'm so fricking sick of this shitty western-dominant era of vidya. about time we're having a paradigm shift.
With Konami back the big five are all back up again (Konami, Sqaure, Capcom, Namco, Sega). As far as i'm concerned they are the definition of vidya. always have been, always will be. i hope for the best

Konami still works very much in studio culture, the guy who makes Bomberman beside a few shared staff are not the one on YuGiOh.
Metal Gear studio is production studio 8, which is in truth, the old Kojima Production. It never was disbanded, they just lost their names and a few staff.
Beside Survive, they mostly worked on the the collection projects, the PCengine mini, and Castlevania Grimoire of Souls (with a few CV veteran to help them) + Support on ZoE2MARS with Cygames (who also used old kojipro guys who left to work at Cygames)

Kojima himself never wanted MG to end without him. It's fans who keep thinking this.

Similarly, Kojima likely would prefer a MG game that dares new things even if extremely different, while many fans only call for remakes. it's interesting how the will of the fans and the will of the staff can clash.

        >And frick, Survive was fine.

Survive was fine and had some neat ideas but I'm glad it flopped because Konami's shitty fingerprints were still all over that thing, so much of the game just felt like a fricking slog designed to pad out playtime in the hope that you'd buy some of their microtransactions. Very "cynical" design choices imo. I just hope its failure means that the devs have more creative freedom for the next Metal Gear, and hopefully some of the cool fan-service makes it over as well.

the main situation with Survive is that the game was designed as a multiplayer only game at first, the single player wasn't planned. it was done in the 2017-2018 delay.
It explains why most of the core gameplay is found in salvage missions, why some of the AI feels weird in the open world (they were not made to be used in the open world), why almost all characters are reused models from MGSV...
Even Korekado said the game was developed like a metal gear online, almost all the MTXs are stuff from MGO2. A pvp mode was planned but also cut (with a few other things like weapons, gears and a 3rd boss creature)

Well if it's any better you also have a literal MGS producer teasing that 2023 will be a year of many long-awaited announcements in Famitsu.

Okamura also was the creator of ZoE. As much I love MG , i'd love it to be a new ZoE project as many staff including him said even back in 2018 they REALLY want to do more with the franchise and wanted so for years.

I'd love a third ZOE game the concept art they showed for the one that was cancelled looked amazing, but I don't think the 2nd Runner remaster sold well enough for Konami to consider it.

              Anonymous

Enders project was another thing, but the original ZoE creator wasn't on it. According to the few info we got, it wasn't even a mecha game because Kojima told the director (I forgot his name, he worked on a konami franchise with anime girls in mechanical armors) "mecha don't sell", it was in a fantasy setting while reusing the gameplay of ZoE.

the guy who directed ZOE2MARS was the director of the cut ZoE3.

management got better according to official staff reviews + some good member getting higher ranks like Okamura, who was literally 2nd in command of the Kojima team in the early days.
New Blood to be trained by veterans probably helps too. The old guard won't be there forever

I don't think Konami will ever get another golden age but i'm expecting better things.
Survive was a sad case of a game being announced at the absolute worst time possible. The devs made the game to have fun and instead they got people shitting on them + Kojima backstabbing them for cheap promotion when he was the guy who wanted a zombie metal gear game back in 2013.

I always felt this was the case since he even went on record saying he wanted MGR2 to be about Gray Fox fighting nanomachine zombies, not to mention MGSV kind of had zombies to begin with.

I also feel like he had a bunch of ideas for Metal Gear Survive that he then reused for Death Stranding. Like Kuban energy = chiral nergy, and how the fog in Survive and rain in DS serve very similar mechanical functions.

The industry in general is too different now, no studios could do what could be done in the past. but good things can still be done now.

I'm almost 100% sure both Survive and Death Stranding shares one shared inspiration, perhaps not even on purpose because the Survive team is ExKojipro.
I played a lot of both games and it's interesting how they both reflect and contrast each others, even if Kojima likely never played Survive once since he's not much a gamer.
I could see a new metal gear to actually be inspired by death stranding though, because the old team never stopped playing.

According to Bloober, Konami massively changed in recent years and brought back a lot of experienced teams and experts.
They proposed new Silent Hill to Konami back in 2015, but only in 2018-2019 they actually took it seriously.

They also said that Konami doesn't want to show anything, unless they know they're ready to shock the public. Bloober wasn't aware of what other new Silent Hill projects were exactly.
So I guess new Metal Gear announcement will include multiple different projects. MGS3 remake and MGS re-release rumors were confirmed by actual journalist sites, not some literally who snoy fan sites.

the movie likely won't be in it if they do one, because Konami don't own the right of the MGmovie. it's owned by Sony as Kojima wanted so back in 2006.
For SH, the right were owned by 3 french filmmaker who also directly wanted to work with Konami. So Konami got an hand in the movie.

Basically, it's owned by Sony who is known for being b***h with script + since it's Hollywood, every military equipment being used mean the movie need to be confirmed by the american DOD. Which clash a bit with the theme of metal gear.
Gans new Silent Hill meanwhile started in 2020 but since it's a french movie + no big producer + Konami directly working with gans (and giving him a LOT of freedom, enough for him to sneak PT stuff in the movie according to him)

I want a game that takes place between TPP and MG1 where you play as Gray Fox.

Kojima really wanted a game about Gray Fox to be done by the non kojima team. He also wanted one where Gray Fox fought nanomachine zombies.
Survive used nanomachine zombies, so perhaps Gray Fox being used is possible too.

But the staff has expressed more interest in using either Raiden or a brand new protagonist. Similarly, Kojima wanted them to work on a MGS5 without him about The Boss, but they apparently refused to do so back then. (even if some really love the character like Tamaro)

Korekado is a great guy and it's a shame people forgot all his involment with metal gear the moment he worked on Survive. He was one of the main programmer of most big games of the franchise, including the AI programmer of MGS2, main programmer of MGS4, policenauts veteran, director of MGO2...

he didn't self-promote so he just got lost in the auteur mystique kojima cultivated.

ironically he was the one guy to gets against Kojima in the MGS4 documentary.
In it, Korekado gets a bit apeshit at Kojima because Kojima keep asking to change and add shit when the game is in the gold period and already got delayed once. Saying that for each changes he has to fix all the bugs (he was main programmer on the game)
People says "Korekado is wrong" online for that but no, he was 100% right. Even Kojima says he was technically right but he wanted the team to "surpass themselves".

Both him and Kojima probably had good enough relations though, as Kojima was the first person to get him as producer on MGSR and even on MGSV. and he also was willing to help Korekado reviving MGSR when Kojima originally wanted to cancel everything (so no MGRR)

It would be a bit disappointing that we wouldn’t get a direct follow up to what happened after the first one, but it can still be good. Problem is that since it’s apparently going to be based off of what MGR was originally supposed to be, it’ll become much darker and not have the same charm the first one had. Though I’d like to think there is a decent middle ground. They could do some flashback mission type while taking place in the present.

If it really is the in-house Metal Gear team making a new Raiden game I am interested as frick in what the game will be like from a mechanical standpoint, I really wonder what ideas they'll take from MGSV, MGRR and the scrapped MGSR.

Will in be building on the MGSV Fox Engine but with expanded melee combat? Will it be linear or more open? Will it bring back the PMC base elements? I would love a game that blended the stealth of MGSV with melee character action game combat, I don't even know if that is possible, just think it would be cool if you suddenly went from sneaking into doing some sick ass combos. (I just hope they don't reuse Survive's melee combat because I thought it was kind of ass)

FOX likely is a never returning due to now being almost 13 years old. UE is easier to use, can be used by newcomers without special training, has more options and works on more machine. FOX was a bit hellish to development with unless you became specialized in it.

      Survive did show they wanted to be a bit less "open" than MGSV, having smaller zones in a more linear way, though it could also be because the survive director was level design of ground zeroes;

MGSR was an open world, with a structure inspired by the assaassin's creed franchise. stealth was still there and so was non lethal, theme were really dark. it had a system where enemies would be horrified by Raiden if you killed too much, like what TLOU2 did but less scripted. The game really was too ambitious for 2010. the team tried to do too much.

If they're scrapping the Fox Engine for Unreal I at least hope they're able to carry over the controls and movement in MGSV over to it. With the animation work being done and all.

Also first time I've ever heard about MGSR being Open World, where did you learn that? I did know they wanted stealth to be more "predator" like however.

Looking at the new Yakuza Ishin, it looks and feels very faithful to other RGG Studio games. When they showed it for the first time, people were convinced it was a Dragon Engine remake, on the gameplay side, it looks exactly like original game.
Japs are the only ones that can make use of UE.

Fox was already dropped two years ago. The only game that was still using it was PES and that dropped it (and fricked itself over).

Shame, because the engine is still black magic. Whoever at Kojima Productions at the time moved with Kojimbo because DECIMA was a good engine pick for DS PC as well.

Horizon runs way worse on PC than DS, I think its less about the engine and more just KojimaPro giving a shit about optimization.

The only part of the leak that sounds vaguely credible is the fact a new Metal Gear Ac!d game would be a mobile only game called "Ac!d:Base"

Old french interviews and magazine only interviews.
A LOT of metal gear information is restricted in japanese magazines, even for Survive, there was a lot of stuff only in those like CG renders of the characters, interviews post release with the staff talking about the game and the story, or the concept art of The Lord of Dust by Masahiro Ito.

fun fact : Kojima wasn't director of Boktai,
He did the game design but had to leave early on the project, so the director was Ikuya Nakamura, also main artist and sprite artist of the game. he then did game design and direction of all the later Boktai game without Kojima real involment. Nakamura is still at Konami and had interest in more Boktai, but the franchise is likely too niche now .

Kojima also has almost nothing to do with ZoE beside giving his staff to Okamura, he even was against some of Okamura's choice for ZoE1 but let him do it. ZoE started without Kojima as Atlantis, but when Kojima helped Okamura as both were bros, he brought Shinkawa for the designs. (PROTO-ZoE had Gundam X looking designs based on the sole concept art that was released of it), Kojima himself even said he was tired of people crediting him ZoE but people kept doing it anyway.

Legitimately how the hell is that MGS3 remake gonna pan out? Assuming it plays similarly to MGSV the PS2 level design is gonna be dated as hell and gonna need a complete overhaul to not feel like Twin Snakes 2.0, it's practically gonna have to be a totally different game.

I saw Quinton Flynn at a grocery store in Los Angeles the other day. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any nanomachine infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I don't give one flying frick about Metal Gear 1 and I've beaten it multiple times. It and MG2's events are already recreated in Metal Gear Solid and its sequels (Black Ninja/Gray Fox, Korean Tap Code/Game Case Codec Number, Kyle Schneider basically being prototype Frank Jaeger etc). You could make the case for MG2's story being interesting to see recreated thanks to the OILIX plot point and Dr. Madnar (who appeared only off-screen to fix Raiden in MGS4) but I don't care at all to see your wet dream of a face off between Venom and Solid redone in modern graphics. I would rather see a new Solid Snake and Otacon game just like old times, traveling the world again and infiltrating desert, urban bases or even traveling Asia. They really ought to do either an interquel between MGS2 and 4 or an MGS6 that takes place after MGR with Snake overcoming the aging with molecular NMN therapy or some other pseudo scientific bullshit. I don't care how they do it, Kojima is a moron who should be ignored and the series should continue beyond 4 properly.
