If i wanted to get into the series what is the best way to start? this shit seems more crazy than kingdom hearts story wise is it worrth the full dive? ive played MGRR and i thought that was great
oh my fricking god
In release order. I don't see what's the issue.
Nah, they shouldn't be skipped. MG2 is also the foundation of MGS1 and does some things better - and it is THE entry that is ripped off the most across the series. Telling people to skip MG2 is like Toonami tards who say Wing is the best place to start in Gundam.
Metal Gear Ghost Babel should be moved into the VR category or be placed right before MGS2. The ending directly states that Raiden was in control of Snake in ghost babel as a vr mission right before MGS2 begins.
Twin Snakes should probably be placed in the VR category too.
It's really quite simple, play them in release order starting with MGS1, you can skip MG1 and MG2.
i have the HD collection on rpcs3 are those the right intro games
No, the HD collection doesn't have MGS1.
>you can skip MG1 and MG2
Why would you want to skip them. You do like video games, don't you?
I wouldn't recommend that to someone getting into the series, it's already likely that the 3D games will filter them.
old ass jap pc games from the 80s. why should i play them?
>why should i play them?
Because they are canonical to the series storyline, the starting point of the entire stealth genre, and especially MG2:SS is a damn good game. Legit proto-MGS... or rather, MGS1 was like a 3D remake of the MG2:SS.
Release order.
MGS1 and MGS2 have PC ports, but otherwise you'd need to get the HD collection.
Here's how you play the games anon!
>Metal Gear
>Metal Gear 2
>Metal Gear Solid
>Metal Gear Solid 2
>Metal Gear Solid 3
>Metal Gear Solid 4

People saying KH is complex to get into are also fricking morons. The new collection have the most braindead, simple to follow order, it's just they use moronic numbers

>People saying KH is complex to get into are also fricking morons. The new collection have the most braindead, simple to follow order, it's just they use moronic numbers

The side titles are fricking packed in
>inb4 muh phone games

Oh no, Melody of Memory is new, you HAVE to have it in the list.
Listen homie. They're just gonna make another fricking collection, that recaps all the gay phone game shit. As usual.
im just saying you cant really say that games that have major plot points are skippable. if you dont play BBS you dont know who TAV are and all the phone game stories are actually pretty good it just sucks that its tied to phone games
>im just saying you cant really say that games that have major plot points are skippable. if you dont play BBS you dont know who TAV are
BBS is in 2.5. It's there. When you buy the most easily available version of KH1 and 2, it comes with CoM, 358, BBS, and Coded.
>and all the phone game stories are actually pretty good it just sucks that its tied to phone games
Yeah and guess fricking what
You'll get a recap movie in the inevitable 3.5 collection
>moving the goalposts
The original point wasn't whether it's included in a collection.
Gear
Gear 2
PSX emulatior
Gear Solid
Gear Solid 2
Gear Solid 3
Gear Solid 4
RPCS3
Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Gear Solid V
PC
is this the correct format for each game?
>PSX emulator
Metal Gear 1 and 2 aren't on PC. MG1 was released for the MSX2, GCN, and PS3/360/Vita. MG2 was the same, minus the GCN.
>RPCS3
MGS1 wasn't on the PS3.
>PC
Peace Walker was PSP/PS3/360 only.
Release order, and be sure to stop with MGS3.
holy shit MGS3 is 54 years old
damn.
Where's the schizo guy?
maybe try at the FRICKING BEGINNING YOU BRAINDEAD FRICK
>If i wanted to get into the series what is the best way to start?
Release order.
Literally no other options.
PS1 and MGS1 is the easy starting point. HC retro-enthusiasts may start with MSX's MG1 and 2.
The easiest way to play ALL of them is to get a PS3 + Legacy Collection. Hacked or in a legit manner.
Pic very related.
if i get the legacy collection for ps3 thats every game?
Yup, from the 1987 Metal Gear 1, to the 2010 Peace Walker HD. Seven games in total.
It's only "missing" MGS5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, but even those are available on PS3. Obviously PC port is the way to go with those, but I'd honestly just stop after GZ if you appreciate the lore and cast of the saga.
MGRR is canon? does it tie into anything
Not yet. It's the most recent game in the timeline, so there's nothing to tie it into.
>MGRR is canon?
It's a direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4.
It has characters from past games and references tons of things.
Twin snakes>2>3>portable ops>4>5
>Twin snakes
Way to frick up right off the bat.
>load up the MSX games
>immediately get filtered
its because im 27 but still kinda surprised ill just go the casual route instead
don't forget to watch the live action movies
Just play them in order of release.
read the novelization
is kojima on crack? how do you think of something like this?
As far as timelines go it's pretty basic.
>learn japanese
>play in release order
Quite simple.
how much a difference is there? isnt snake's eng voice more iconic?
The Eng dub is in many ways better, since duh - it's all set in the West and has American characters. Hell, the MGS1's original localization is much better than the Kojima's enforced Jap-2-Eng one in Twin Snakes.
I think most people, including Kojima prefer Eng voices.
