Metal Gear Solid contains 3 games that were made specifically to insult the fans:
>Twin Snakes was made as ridiculous as possible so that fans would never choose it as a replacement for the PS1 original
>MGS2 was made to trick and mock the people who wanted to play another adventure as their hero, Solid Snake
>MGS4 is centered around dragging Snake through the mud as much as possible before killing him off

Why did fans allow Kojima to get away with it?

If you were "tricked and mocked" by a video game, you deserved it for taking them too seriously.

MGS2 works because its tricking and mocking fans but has an actual fricking point to make at the end and is told in an extremely compelling and entertaining way.

Twin Snakes is hated no matter how hard contrarians try to change history. MGS4 is garbage but by that point the majority of the fanbase is made up of morons who didn't get the earlier games who just wanted to see a soap opera ending.

What about MGS3. It was marketed as something else, not a prequel. you didnt even know it was a prequel until you land on the ground in virtuous mission.
Kojima has always trolled the players since MGS1

MGS3 is also full of references to Raiden being hated and being a gay. It's a continuation of the theme from MGS2 where anyone can be "Snake" in the meta-context of the series, so long as they don't look too radically different like Raiden.

I played it two years ago, its fine for a mindless distraction and the novelty but it completely fails as a game because the MGS2 engine/gameplay/controls breaks it.

This, most people haven't played the twin snakes and just parrot what homosexuals on here say. It was a great game.

        >It was a great game.
But it wasn't. They implemented MGS2 gameplay without doing anything to the challenges, so the game is a complete joke. But I doubt you have any actual defense beyond "hurrdurr haters didn't play it"

Almost every single room in MGS1 was designed to be viewed quickly in 1st-person, which means most times you can see all enemies from where you enter. Instead of sneaking past the enemy or sneaking up to them to take them out, you are encouraged to snipe everyone with the tranq gun and then have Liquid tell you that you are a murderer despite 0 kills.

that anon probably views this as a positive as they clearly don't want to play a game and just want to tick this off their backlog to then go discuss on twitter or whatever like other contrarian zoomers.

It's not my job to work out how to make the game fun, it's the professional game developer's. How am I meant to know that they half assed a game and need to apply a bunch of self-enforced restrictions when I've never played it before?

I was given an M9 tranquilizer with a silencer and laser sight in the first area of the game, the Dock. I'm supposed to just ignore I have this for sport or something?

It's literally thematically relevant that Snake in MGS1 has no weapon until getting a SOCOM pistol without a suppressor. It teaches you that the enemies can hear gunfire (most games had no stealth mechanics at the time) and it forces you to always have to kill enemies in order to remove them. It makes sense then when Liquid calls you out for killing, because the player most likely was shooting everyone they saw when they got the suppressor for the SOCOM.

                >'okay bro but nobody forced you to use it just play it like the original game and it's fun'
Thanks for conceding that there's absolutely no reason to play TTS over the original game

I try not to be surprised when twin snakes historical revisionists turn out to be moronic but this is the most blatant yet. Most of you at least try to explain why its actually better that it has become a walking simulator.

I played MGS1 a ton when it was new and preordered Twin Snakes too in order to see the jump in graphical quality.
The worst thing about Twin Snakes is the voice acting, because everyone sounds monotone and bored.

Kojima's vision for MGS4 was that Snake and Otacon turned themselves in and were executed by firing squad after being blamed for the whole Guns of the Patriots incident.

        Anonymous

That's not really his original vision. MGS4 is a heavily cut down reinterpretation of his global warfare concept, where there'd.be a ton of battles going on between different countries and snake would waltz in, assist a side, and change the side of the conflict. Snake was also more muscular at this point in development.

What you're describing is what Kojima wanted during release MGS4's development, but was shit down early by his staff.

          Anonymous

He was talked out of the ending but it got far enough into the development process with that ending that Kojima had a cover of "Here's To You" recorded for the credits. Snake and Otacon were meant to be the modern Sacco and Vanzetti.

That's like saying MGS2 was really going to have Snake fighting up to 100 soldiers at once because of the design document.

I can't even imagine a scenario where that would be doable and/or fun.

Then there's MGS5, people complained about the notorious length of the cutscenes in MS4, so in response the cutscene length is so short in 5 that the story feels rushed, incomplete, it doesn't feel like an Metal Gear game.

why are you drooling morons STILL complaining about the M9 having made TTS "too easy" when MGS2 and 3 suffer from the exact same fricking problem

      Anonymous

The levels and enemy AI are balanced for first-person aiming in those games. TTS uses the same exact boss fights, enemy layout, and map layout as the PS1 game that had no aiming like that except in specific scenarios.

Most rooms can be cleared of enemies before you take another step, and most bosses are legitimately broken due to not being designed for first-person aiming.
Most hilariously, you can snipe every guard with the weapon of your choice from just outside the room where you are forced to not be able to use any weapons. The entire room's purpose is destroyed along with the believability of the in-game logic because they didn't change any of the scripting or layouts to stop players from unloading bullets into that room from just outside the door.

It's fricking atrocious how low-effort it was.
