W-wait... it isn't Fox Engine? But don't they already have a good framework with MGSV?

      Ruh roh

Fox Engine was okay for the time but even then I noted how it only looked good when it was dark and rainy or in the desert. I remember that day time mission in GZ looked terrible and in TPP when you get to Africa and it's raining in the day time I seriously thought I was playing a PS2 game.
Of course if the engine could continue to be supported, it would probably look amazing today. Look at GTA4 vs RDR2 for example. GTA4 was already not the best looking game when it released but on the same engine, RDR2 is still one of the best looking games five years later.
I do wish Fox engine kept being developed but if Konami just slapped MGS3 into what KojiPro already made, it would look like shit.

W-wait... it isn't Fox Engine? But don't they already have a good framework with MGSV?

      Ruh roh

The Fox Engine is a more than a decade old engine, it literally started being developed in 2008.
I'll never understand this place's obsession with that engine.

shit ran like butter and looked alright

          Anonymous

No shit it ran like butter, it had a poly-count you could count in one hand, an absolutely empty open world and at no part of the game did you have more than 20 npcs around you.
Not to mention the non-existant physics.

Sunk cost and cope. MGSV turned out as half baked garbo because of all the dev time spent on the engine which is being left behind so MGSV sucked for nothing.

          Anonymous

moronic take. It's not like the game was gonna run on UE3 or that the groundwork wasn't already laid out with MGS4, the Fox Engine shilling was just part of Kojima bending the knee to Konami and the actual result was worthless since it's clear everything from the tooling was built exclusively for MGS. It was also done by the time GZ came out.
MGSV didn't "suck" btw. You're just too stupid to understand everything from engine and game development to quality games.

            Anonymous

nta but cmon it sucked as a mgs game. i have over 200 hours and i liked it but i dont begrudge people for hating it. it's a numbered entry marketed as a prequel that will tie everything together and we essentially got a spin off with half its story cut.

            Anonymous

Also reminder that MGS Rising was supposed to be the first released Fox Engine game, expected to be released in 2012.
The first actual Fox Engine game was PES 2014, which released in 2013.

Zone of the Enders 3 was also in development on Fox.

'>muh engine' cope is always used when overhyped directors release underbaked games, like Dragon's Dogma 1 and now 2.

      Ruh roh

Fox Engine was literally being developed alongside MGSV. The people who made the engine left the company which made the engine trash because its nothing without the devs who knew how to develop and operate it

The exact same thing happened with DICE and Frostbite. Mass Effect Andromeda was a shitshow because Bioware was working on an engine made for Battlefield by Battlefield devs

        Anonymous

Difference being Frostbite was made for Battlefield, but FOX Engine was made to be Konami's engine for the entirety of the 8th gen.
Kojima and some of the devs mentioned how it was made not just for third person games, but also first person shooters, racing games or football games.

On one hand, David Hayter is back
On the other, it's a souless remake because konami is creatively bankrupt and they're making "free" money off kojima's work
Also, the PS5 still doesn't have any games collectively worth buying the system for, including this

It looks like it’s just going to be MGSV modded to have recreated MGS3 maps. I’ll buy it but I’m not really sure how it’s going to work with the new movement since MGS3 really is a small game when you take out the purposefully obtuse controls and slow movement

      Anonymous

It doesn't look like it has sprinting, I think as long as Snake can't move faster than he can in MGS3 it'll be fine.
Being able to walk in first person didn't really break the game in MGS3D either.

Yeah he is. It's all those quirky little things he adds to his games that make MGS stand out. That's the important bit. Plus Shinkawa is with him so that's another part of core MGS identity gone.

MGSV gameplay without adjusting level design for it

It's just a remake of the latest version of the game, which Kojima made. MGS3 is also the fan favorite. The only thing you said that was a sensible opinion is that it looks soulless.

Pachinko never made a lot of money and their pachinko branch was merged with arcades, since it was doing very poorly, and the Japanese government started regulating pachinkos
