Metroid

>Oct 8
>it's been a year since Metroid Dread released
It's still so surreal that this is a real video game that actually exists. Moreso that it's really damn good.

I hope that Nintendo got the hint that people actually like Metroid and we get a Switch port for Prime Trilogy as well as a great Prime 4 game.

All initial, non-remake releases of mainline Metroid games as well as the Prime games have sold at least a million units apiece. The games sell respectably well and consistently.

          Anonymous

The problem though is that most of them never outsold the first game or MP1. Zero Mission sold a depressing amount for how godlike that game was. People have no taste.

            Anonymous

That isn't a problem because Metroid and Metroid Prime sold extremely well, not just serviceably or as a benchmark for the baseline of the Series' expectations. No surpassing those numbers isn't a big issue if the games are doing well and hitting projected milestones. Dread simply hasn't hit the market because Sakamoto felt the concept couldn't be executed the way he wanted it to on the two prior attempts.

This is always the frustrating thing with smaller franchises. Corpos gonna corp, so anything that doesn't make Mario or Zelda money is seen as barely worth bothering with in the eyes of Nintendo's execs. It's such a stupid, honestly kind of entitled attitude.
              >"We made a thing, and it didn't make GORILLIONS OF DOLLARS? Throw it in the fucking trash!"
              Pathetic.

              >Play game
              >It's good
              Thanks game!

Right? It's always really nice for a game to just be really good.

                Anonymous

Lets be honest tho. Nintendo doesn't even have *that* high of a sales bar for their other franchises compared to most big companies in the industry. They got blown away when Fire Emblem started selling above 2M units per game, and have gone all in with it since. And they have consistently supported series like Xenoblade that doesn't even sell that much on average. Kirby also averages at 2-3M sales per game and its got a consistent output.

Metroid not managing to even reach 2M sales on average was just bad in relation to the quality of the games and the effort they take. Thank god Metroid Dread did so well tho, I hope they get the memo with that

Nintendo strategy is a bit different
They know they will only survive long term with exclusives so even if said exclusives dont sell that much they are still worth having because the moment you have 6-7 IPs that sell a million or two every time you have a lot of people that are "forced" into buying your console

That's what makes it especially annoying though. Nintendo doesn't have anything that makes, say, Call of Duty money, so they don't eve have an excuse for this flavor of brain rot. Any profit should be acceptable.

                >Thank god Metroid Dread did so well tho, I hope they get the memo with that

                >Nintendo doesn't have anything that makes, say, Call of Duty money
They do tho. Mario Kart, most Mario platformers really, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Smash Bros. All of those sell just as much if not more at times that Call of Dutty.
                >Any profit should be acceptable.
Nah man, there's always a bare minimum in expectations. I know as a fan it's hard to recognize this things some times. But Metroid just didn't have good sales most of the time.

                >All of those sell just as much if not more at times that Call of Dutty.
Maaybe Pokemon, but not even that honestly. Most cod games sell like 25 million yearly. Pokemon games, except swsh are like 15-17 million(with constant regression until swsh). Mk8D released like 5 years ago, same with smash and ac released 3 years ago. Compared to yearly iterations and making 25 million on each of them + mtx money from warzone this is nothing

                >Most cod games sell like 25 million yearly
That's... just false man. Where did you even take that from? Only the 6 most sold CoD games are around those numbers, and none of them are the recent ones to boot.

And what does the game's release date have to do with what I said? All those Nintendo series I mentioned sell CoD numbers, that's just fact. I never talked about yearly releases

Metroid sells pretty well. The issue is that the series was neglected between 2007 and 2021. There are zoomers who are 19 right now who never got to experience a Metroid game since they were too young to play the Prime trilogy.

And Dread was the only non-remake entry in the mainline 19 years when it released. Maybe Nintendo will try to cash in on it now, but Metroid as a franchise had been almost barren since Other M. And by Other M's release, it was only really coasting off of Prime's success. Metroid wasn't a cash cow for over a decade before Dread's release, if you could have considered it one at all.

            Anonymous

And why are the Prime games and the remakes supposed to not count exactly? They are important releases. Arguably, the Prime games were more important as they were more mainstream games and the best selling in the Metroid series was Prime 1 before Dread, for almost 20 years

              Anonymous

              >They are important releases
Exactly. They're not indicative of actual Metroid sales as they're artificially boosted by being labeled important, tricking mindless consumers into buying them.

              Anonymous

The point is that 2d Metroid hadn'f really brought over 1 mil sales for 19 years before Dread's release. Even counting Prime, the Metroid franchise hadn't brought in that many sales for a release since 2007. On top of this, it outright didn't release anything from 2010 (Other M) to 2016 (Federation Force). And Federation Force sold only 150,000, while Samus Returns only sold 560,000. The franchise was practically barren for the entirety of the 2010s.

I finished Metroid Prime on the gamecube. I didn't enjoy it at all. I was just too poor to have any choice so I finished it anyway.

That's the problem with Metroid. It's just not fun. Yeah you can tell it's competently designed but is it actually fun to play?

I liked Super Metroid though but that's more because it was so ahead of its time when it came out. I would never play it in 2022 now that there are much better games out there.

Same, but I'm not holding my breath. People have been yelling at them to make a Trilogy Switch port or years, and they still haven't done it. Presumably because they took the "port machine" jokes way too seriously.

On the upside though, 3 million copies is nothing to sneeze at. Even they can't ignore that yes, people do indeed like Metroid games.

That doesn't magically absolve it of problems. If you loved Metroid, you'd be willing to look into ways that Dread could be improved, instead of mindlessly praising it as a flawless masterpiece.

It does have problems. But it is also a masterpiece. No game in this industry is actually flawless. Plenty of people have pointed out the ost, or the game being a little too railroaded for some people's taste.

It's far from a masterpiece. Mechanically it has way more problems than it should, some of which actively soil future replays.

I really like what they did with Samus' designs in this game. The techno-organic look of the suit is great. The animations are also great at conveying her power level. They even did QTEs well because they use the same controls as the rest of the game, so they can put stuff like this in there and it's seamless. Hopefully this sets the bar for future games.

                >they even did QTEs well
I would say this, only if you didn't get to do damage during them, and infact took damage. A QTE should punish the player for wanting the lazy way out.

You can take damage if you fuck up the counters. Not using the opportunity to do damage to the bosses is also a form of punishment since it makes the fight take longer.

                Anonymous

It's extremely easy to activate the counter though. And even if you don't touch the button at all during the 30 second cinematic animation, most bosses cannot hurt you in the slightest during it. When a video game removes the need to move and dodge enemy attacks, it stops being a video games. It becomes dangerously close to a visual novel.

It also sullies Z-57 as a whole. As an example, look at this webm and tell me when Samus can actually be harmed during it. Like, show me a moment where the boss can successfully hit her and break the whole QTE.

A split second parry where you counter an attack, and then IMMEDIATELY gain control of Samus again is fine. A parry that leads to a 16 second cutscene where you're invincible and can't be killed, that's not fun.

Metroid has always been better off without QTEs. That's why AM2R is slightly better than Samus Returns, even if both are decent games. One just wants to be more of a video game, while the other feels like it wants to be a spectacle wacky marvel shooter. You can also see this in the needless fanservice by lazily bringing Ridley back, whereas AM2R made several unique and original bosses, like Genesis or The Tester. Or Metroid Ridley, thanks to 1.5

The problem is that Samus Returns breaks the pacing too often due to counter, not the QTE. Dread fixed that problem already. I also don't mind the inclusion of Ridley in Samus Returns since it sets a precedent to both Neo Ridley and the kidnapping of the Metroid in Super.

Not them, but I don't really. The sequence has the function of acting as a crutch/breather for mediocore players. But it's gated in a way that them (and especially first timers) still have to actually be good at reacting to the boss' attacks if they are reach said point alive. Attacks also only do half damage in this sequence, so it doesn't really win the fight for you.

Metroid shouldn't be about having crutches or breather moments. Takes away from the entire atmosphere of the game. It'd be like having NPCS constantly giving you dialogue and exposition, telling you where to go next. Kinda why Fusion was a horrible game, now that I think about it.

This is also helped by the fact that you can just ignore them. And I don't mean that in a the same way someone could technically just use charge beam to beat ever boss; possible in theory but highly impractical. To deal damage as quickly as possible, it is optimal to ignore them.

The “hard” part is supposed to be actually parrying in the first place which filters 85% of players at the least. I wish there multiple parries for big bosses like this. As in you had to do successive parries to break them. At least RB should’ve had that.

I'm not saying that it isn't enjoyable, it's just that fans are glossing over its problems too much, even citing them as positives. No joke, half the fandom defends the 20 second load times between areas, citing them as an "artistic choice" instead of the Switch just being terrible at optimization.

Metroid Dread was so fucking good. I've replayed it 5 times through the year, including the last one in Dread Mode. That shit was tough. I've never replayed a game so many times in so little time before, not even the other Metroid games. This game is masterful.

Because he's an effective and memorable antagonist. He introduces an interesting new angle on the chozo and fleshing out of their civilization. He's a solid thematic evil counterpart to Samus. And, he's just a damn good final boss who's fun to fight and offers a strong challenge. Also, cool design. Plus, there's honestly just the novelty of a chozo villain, crazy bird magic tech and everything. Quotable, too. Hadar sen olmen.

I'm kinda the same way. I have a really bad habit of starting games, enjoying them, but just dropping them after a while. Doesn't matter if I play 5, 10, 20, or even longer (in the case of games like minecraft); I'll just end up dropping them long before I'm actually finished. Part of the reason I like the 2d Metroids so much is that I can complete them relatively fast. And even then, for the most part, I've only have one playthrough of each game. Only started a second playthrough for 2 of them (Metroid 1 and Dread), and I've only actually completed 1 of them twice (Dread).

I think the implication is that Quiet Robe managed to overpower the X and control his actions. It is said in the game that the Thoha had a natural resistance to Metroids that the Mawkin didn't have. So by absorving QR's X Samus gets a Thoha dna infusion of sorts that counters/subsides her Metroid dna.

I mean, didn't the SA-X convert to an X core to let Samus fight the Omega Metroid at the end of Fusion?

I think the X may recognize Samus as at least partially X now, and the sacrifice was done to continue the X species.

      Anonymous

It's deliberately ambiguous as to if a Chozo scientist mind managed to overpower the X or if X-insincts said (DESTROY METROID) before any consideration that Samus would die soon anyway.

        Anonymous

I don't know that it's all that ambiguous. Like, if it was actually the X in control and he had just wanted to destroy Samus as a Metroid. Why the little respectful bow he does beforehand, and the tender look he gives at the end. Because those actions are very much there. I'm pretty sure that was Quiet Robe.

      Anonymous

Thematically speaking it's the final nail in the coffin for Raven Beak's "Power is everything mantra"

Samus basically just raged and destroyed an entire planet through overwhelming power thanks to her Metroid DNA... But she would have died with it because it would drain her ship.

QR-X self sacrificing so she can escape shows that power is not everything and echoes the thoha philosophy on which she was raised.

No you’re not, you’re seething about the same pointless garbage for a year. You do the same shit in BotW threads. You copy-paste the same talking points, criticism and “demands” pertaining to a 5 year old Zelda game. None of what you say will have any impact and repeating it over and over for year will not change anything. We already heard this shit from you multiple times in the past. What will you achieve by sounding like a broken record on Ganker? Nothing other than being a nuisance.
Let’s assume 100% of Ganker posters agree with everything you’ve said so far. What will that achieve? Absolutely nothing. So wht do you keep repeating the same talking points non-stop for so long?

          Anonymous

Why make a Metroid thread a year after Dread came out? Why make a BOTW thread 6 years after it came out? Because you want to talk about it, don't you? Why is it wrong when I also wish to talk about it? Is it because my posts contain criticism, and aren't just flauntings of blind praise? Isn't the best part of Ganker that this isn't a hugbox? Shouldn't you welcome critique, since it means you can enjoy discussion of the game far more than if you were just jerking the game off?

Nobody likes a masturbatory session where people are afraid to mention negative aspects, due to being labeled as a "hater".

Don’t deflect with your usual “it’s just criticism”, we’ve heard that before a million times. You don’t bring any valid criticism and you simply parrot the same shit over and over. Calling Metroid Dread a Marvel movie like you always end up doing is not valid criticism. It’s low effort shitposting.

If I was to call the game chud shit, or call people tendies, then yeah I wouldn't have an argument. However, don't my arguments always have backup with explanations as to how you can come to them?

              >Calling Metroid Dread a Marvel movie like you always end up doing is not valid criticism
Why not? Doesn't the game revel a bit too much in spectacle and trying to look fancy, even if it conflicts with the gameplay itself? Why would I wan to fight a fun boss like Raven Beak, only for the game to spit in my face and put me into a 10 minute long cutscene?

              >w-well Samus needs to show emotion so she can be a deeper character
I don't want a deeper character, and I sure as shit don't want disgusting emotions in my video game. Can't we just have a bing bing wahoo adventure, but with lasers and space aliens instead of goombas and pipes? Why does everything need to have deep lore and cinematic aspirations?

                Anonymous

Samus doesn’t show any emotion in the game. She displays stoic resolve. You’re again bitching about one phrase she says in the entire game ONCE AGAIN. We heard this shit already. Shut the fuck up.

No ACfag. Complaining that cutscenes exist is not talking about problems. You have to have enough mental capacity to realize what actual problems in games are, before you can consider yourself a critic

All those threads complaining about western movie games would beg to differ, and I'd say they have a right to complain.

Because the boss had to be finished off. That's all the purpose the scene served, to which you apparently cannot comprehend for some reason what a victory lap is.

          >Because the boss had to be finished off.
And as it turns out, that can be accomplished without a cinematic victory lap.

Ridley was basically the final boss proper. It didn't end on Samus crying and talking about her feelings, unlike Mother Brain and everything else that happened in Tourian.

because not that many people actually had played Metroid 2 prior to Super. And you keep moving goalposts and this cutscene has nothing to do with the post-game cutscene of Samus crying over the Metroid. Nor is it prove that Ridley is the true final boss, that is complete cope.

                >because not that many people actually had played Metroid 2 prior to Super.
And why does that matter? Couldn't we just have Samus shoot the thing and be done with it? This whole "muh baby" bond was nothing but a detriment to both Metroid 2 and Super, trying to make an emotional attachment to a thing we were just gonna shoot anyway.

                >And you keep moving goalposts and this cutscene has nothing to do with the post-game cutscene of Samus crying over the Metroid
I'm referring to the cutscene itself, trying to make me like this thing that only shows up at the very end, and then dies. Like why should I care? Why ruin the entire end of the game just so you can make some kind of dramatic moment? I will say this again: Ridley is the "final boss" of the trek through Zebes, since he's the last boss that actually requires thought to fight, after already getting through a gauntlet of difficult enemies and hazardous terrain, and there not being a savepoint nearby for about 5-6 rooms. It was the showdown Samus deserved, and if the game ended there it would've been perfect.

It did. And it's one of the big narrative threads in Metroid long past the Larva dying.

                >It did. And it's one of the big narrative threads in Metroid long past the Larva dying.
And narrative never helped the series. It dragged down Fusion, made Prime 3 much worse, and helped bring us Other M aka the worst metroid ever made. Frankly my dear, narrative can suck a fat one for the damage it's done to the series.

                >Not really that farfetched for Samus to lose to Mother Brain considering how formidable of a threat Chozo creations are in general.
Funny, she didn't need magic cutscene powers to kill Mother Brain the first time, or the Queen Metroid (who was one of the most dangerous of the chozo's creations). Yet everything past that, she needs to job hard so the game can have a cinematic moment. Look at Fusion, the game right after. Samus instantly jobs to an Omega Metroid despite having killed 5 of them in a row back on Sr388, and this at the end of the game when she should be at her strongest. But no, the game needs her to be weak so she can have a heartfelt moment about the X saving her.

nta, but I think that the AI running inside the EMMIs were actually Ridley AI. Since Kraid came back and there were that Mother Braind clones everywhere and also we know that the Chozo were behind these things, I think there'll be more about the Chozo in the series and we'll se more about Ridley too.

That would also explain why Ridley is always different and stuff.

Post proof. The manga was even integrated into Zero Mission. As well as some of the ending illustrations in Fusion. It also introduced the canon designs of Grey Voice and Old Bird

Because it quite literally contradicts Zero Mission itself. In numerous places. The manga was commissioned to promote Zero Mission.
And who says that it introduced the canon design of Old Bird? It's far more likely that the author was privy to development materials for Zero Mission and used that design. Also note that Grey Voice has literally never appeared in any Metroid game. Not a single one.

That's just lazy writing at work. Somehow her chozo DNA lets her control metroids, but it doesn't work on ANY other metroid in the entire universe, except for this one. How convenient.

                >w-well it was just a hatchling
Yeah, and yet the hundred+ hatchlings aboard the BSL didn't do the same. Not even one single one followed her out of the ship. But an Omega found its way out, how convenient.

In Prime they were mutating the Metroids with Gamma radiation, Phazon and other stuff. The same goes for the Metroids controlled by MB. They weren't the original Metroids. The last original one that wasn't contaminated was that one that hatched in front of Samus. I liked it more before though, since it was an imprinting, instead of DNA thing.

there was really no threat here, the Metroid were not gonna leave the planet because they cannot survive cold temperatures (outer space), they would live out hunting down the X-specimen, which is a far more dangerous species to everyone else on the universe.

                >Except for the fact that any species that met with the metroids would die instantly, because none of them could fend them off?
very unlikely for the Metroids to attack any species not infected with the X. they only attacked the Chozo because the Chozo were a threat to them, just like they did for Samus.
                >And since SR388 wasn't known for cold environments, the metroids could spread everywhere? And as you went deeper into the planet, it was completely void of life?
maybe, just maybe, because the Chozo submerged most of the planet on that purple liquid? dumbass?
                >If the chozo make a weapon, they should at least program an off switch. Every precaution they took was half-assed.
explain how you program an off-switch on a living organism dumbass. they did not foresee the possibility of Metroid mutating and evolving, and they likely only did so because the X Virus was there to begin with.
                >So why didn't they blow up the planet if they knew that the metroids could be wiped out?
because they intended to get their hands on the Aeion energy as I explained. when the Metroid went out of control they asked the Chozo warrior tribe to help them destroy the planet to avoid more problems, but Raven Beak had other plans.

he quite literally didnt do that, you fucking idiot. that was the whole point of him trying to Awaken Samus' Metroid DNA within her, and make an army of Samus Aran. you did NOT play the game and it shows.

you are fucking stupid. you see several species, clean of X's infection on SR388, just living their lives on the planet even with the Metroids around. the Metroids themselves have their own territory that they dont overstep from and continue living on.
they say Metroids can absorb energy from mechanical creatures too and yet the Diggernaut, Autoads and Autracks are all still there intact.

you didnt play this series and it shows in every word you type. this is my last reply to you, and ive accomplished enough to show you arent worth interacting with, you cant even keep track of the story of the series you rant about and claim to play. what a fucking joke.

Could the shorter silhouette be Old Bird? Perhaps. He's en established character in the Metroid franchise of video games, after all.
Could the taller silhouette be Grey Voice? Not likely. He's an OC character made up for a non-canon manga created to promote one of the video games and has never actually appeared in any of them alongside all the other non-game characters in the same manga.
Lack of things like being able to see facial features really gets in the way of identifying characters, you see.

The notion of Ridley being intelligent or possessing any form of intelligence is noncanon. Ridley is strictly a savage mindless beast and nothing more.
                >inb4 manga
                The manga is explicitly noncanon.

Yeah, it may not be canon in the sense that Sakamoto would write like that. But the events did happen.

                Anonymous

                The narrative means nothing though.

                >kill space pirates, including Ridley
                >they all come back
                >kill them again
                >they come back
                >kill them AGAIN, this time blow up the ship, and kill their leader, and dismember him, and leave the remains on the planet to get atomized
                >he comes back again
                >kill his frozen x-infused remains, blow up the planet AND the space station in a nuclear detonation
                >this doesn't even ensure that he's dead for good

Basically, the "narrative" has no stakes. Nothing is ever permanent or at risk. They can handwaive anything they want if it's convenient. Ridley can always magically come back, hell they can magic up some more Metroids if the plot demands it. It's not really an issue for me, because I never play the games for the narrative, but let's not pretend that Metroid is some kind of deep cinematic universe. It's just bing bing wahoo, but in space and with lasers and aliens and robots.

I think they are clones of some AI created by the Chozo. That's why they keep coming back. Crocomire did nothing wrong though.

                >The narrative means nothing though.
again, you can just say you dont care but the narrative is important and matters to Metroid. Like I mentioned with the Larva Metroid
                >gets attached to Samus due to being the first person it sees when it hatches
                >obeys Samus due to Chozo DNA
                >Mother Brain and the Space Pirates kidnap the Metroid in an attempt to control the species to their favor
                >they fail, the baby Metroid saves Samus and Mother Brain kills the last Metroid
                >fastforward to Fusion Samus gets infected with the X-Virus
                >is only saved due to the Metroid Vaccine made from the DNA of said Larva Metroid, yet again saving Samus
                >on the brink of Death to Raven Beak Samus' Metroid DNA awakens and she defeats Raven Beak, yet again her Larva Metroid being the crux of what saved her skin
this is an ongoing narrative, established as far back as Metroid 2.

something you narratively missed (assuming you even played these games) is that Mother Brain is an AI created by the Chozo, an AI that can be transfered to another host. recreating the Space Pirates should be no problem to it, she made a body for herself using Chozo technology. Virus X is capable of recreating capabilities of other creatures through their DNA too, something even Raven Beak was able to exploit to empower the Chozo warriors. Everything that happens in Metroid has a narrative attached to it that helps the game, setting and narrative grow. things like Raven Beak would not be achieved as easily with just gameplay to back it up, things like Super Metroid would not be achieved without the narrative precedent to back it up.

to say that narrative does not belong in videogames is pretty fucking stupid.

                >Samus doesn't care, sends it off to be dissected by Ceres scientists

                >Baby metroid only has a use because they had to shove in a contrivance about how Mother Brain can tank a billion super missiles and is unkillable because the game needs to be more cinematic

                >Fusion has the baby save samus again, but she's now completely useless since an Omega can kill her in one shot even at full strength

                >Samus once again jobs to Raven Break, but then gets magic cutscene powers to beat him effortlessly

Like I said, the narrative did nothing to help the series. It's just endless poorly written schlock that often contradicted itself or just lead to the games being worse off. Metroid is at its best when it just outright ignores the plot and does whatever, and why I like metroid romhacks so much.

I'm not shitting on Super Metroid, I just think people glorify alot of the bad parts, just because it's old and nostalgic. Why do you think I got into the romhacking scene? Infact, one of the latest romhacks (Super Metroid subversion) literally fixes the issue I had with Mother Brain, and makes it an interesting fight. Spoilers: Basically, if you didn't find the charge beam, you have to pummel it with every single missile and bomb you've collected, and you might even have to screw attack into it a bit, sustaining damage. The whole "hyper beam" phase is skipped entirely, as a verdite beam explodes into the room, and you have to use that to do damage to MB. And mind you, this is happening DURING the escape sequence, so your'e on a timer while the fight's going on.

It's amazing, because the fight is built up suspense throughout the entire game, since you fight phase one in its Aurora Unit form at the beginning, and then you never see it again until the ending.

It's something I think everyone here should give a try.

        sounds interesting, I'll try that

The log about the aurora unit says that it hasn't been outfitted in a robot chassis yet, yet it's still visible in its room and can still hurt you via contact damage, so in the back of your mind you're always wondering when it's gonna spring up and attack you. Only when you initiate the escape sequence does it spring the surprise.

I'm pretty sure he comes to Xenoblade threads, too. Constantly complaining about our QTEs, cutscenes, and any second you don't have 100% control of your character. He goes on to say if your game has even 1 of these things it's shit, regardless of the length, complexity, or skippability.

It's weird, because ALL games have at least 1 of those things. But he'll give others a pass because whatever. He's clearly just shitposting.

Clarification: if your game has these things, and they wouldn't survive without them, then yes they're shit. It's why I like Metroid in spite of the cringeworthy story. I rip it out and ignore it in every single playthrough, and the game is still fun at least. It's still detrimented by the mere existence of it, but it's playable regardless. The same can't be said of glorified visual novels like Persona or SMT or Final Fantasy. Take the story out, and nobody cares about it anymore.

      >Though never explicitly revealed, it is heavily implied that the squadron was killed by a Metroid larva: their bodies are covered in a cohesive substance commonly found near Metroids, and their remains are located on the path leading to the first Metroid encountered by Samus. One body can be found near the first Door Samus encounters, and three more corpses can be found in a camp near where the Scan Pulse is obtained. Two additional bodies are found near the dried out husk of a Hornoad, attacked and drained by the first Metroid larva that Samus encounters, which molts and becomes an Alpha Metroid before her eyes.

I guess the research team, and the rescue team, AND that random hornoad just so happened to be infected by the X. What a coincidence.

we dont know the details, and like I said they were armed with guns. if they were hostile to the Metroids then it was only natural they got attacked.

      >wow it didnt even come across to you the possibility that it mutated after eating up the X Virus in the Hornoad? wild I know.
The hornoad did not have the X-virus in it. As the post-credits indicate (and as fusion shows), their body mutates IMMEDIATELY after infection. And that don't look like an infected hornoad.

I concede I was talking out of my ass on that one. the Metroid did attack the Hornoad and mutated for another reason. they possess Aeion on their bodies which is the energy the Chozo were researching. the Metroid can absorb energy, as seen with them feeding off Samus' suit. to attack a Hornog to get their Aeion energy seems more reasonable than pretending it was possessed by the X Virus when that situation was pretty much controlled at that point.

Different anon but also one subjected to your shit posting for over a decade. People do complain about those. And if they don't it's because lewd posting on Gankerhas absolutely no bearing on the series or people who actually care about it. Some people only care about the games. Some people only care about porn. Some people care about both. But they exist completely independently. The Metroid series does not belong to you. You don't get to decide how it moves forward nor do you have any right to be butt hurt when other people want to rub one out to an objectively designed-to-be-attractive female character. Meanwhile, you only argue with strawmen and intentionally misconstrued or sidestep to incite hostility.

I don't think you understand. Under normal circumstances I don't care if people jerk off to Samus. Do it all you want on your free time, it's no concern of mine. It's when it dominates entire discussion threads, and we can't even talk about the games without someone spamming JUMANJI every 5 seconds. And no, I've never seen anyone complain about that.

                >you only argue with strawmen and intentionally misconstrued or sidestep to incite hostility.
When have I ever done this? Do I not do my best to maintain a level of standards when it comes to discourse? am I spamming wojaks, or calling people tendies? Do I call people gays and tell them to kill themselves? I just feel very passionately about this series that I've grown up with for 30 years, so I don't take kindly to people trying to turn it into glorified wank fuel and marvel shit. Even then I'll make the effort to look past the flaws and see a good game regardless, but don't ask me to praise the weakest elements of the game.

the Federation force claimed the Metroid were a threat and needed to be extinguished, despite capturing one with no issues at the start of Metroid 1, despite knowing the Metroids are weak to cold and cannot leave the planet. Their reasoning to extinguish the Metroids was not because they were a threat on their own, it was because they COULD be used by third parties to become a threat.

Aeion has nothing to do with X parasites. Otherwise Samus couldn't gather it without being infected.

      >this literally doesnt happen in any other game.
Except in Super, and Metroid 1, and all of the Prime games. Did you miss that whole room of dead animals in Tourian?

Actually, they were a threat on their own since exposure to even a tiny bit of radiation would make them horrific monsters and genocidal superintelligent creatures. How many times have they been exposed to random radiation and turned into final bosses?

    >Actually, they were a threat on their own since exposure to even a tiny bit of radiation would make them horrific monsters and genocidal superintelligent creatures.
this is canon from Prime that is not present in the mainline games.

      >I dont know how you related Aeion to X Parasite I thought it was clear that Metroid feed on energy.
Let's refer to an older post of yours.

      >very unlikely for the Metroids to attack any species not infected with the X. they only attacked the Chozo because the Chozo were a threat to them, just like they did for Samus.
What did you mean by this?

      >good on you for not reading the story and not knowing what the fuck youre talking about.
Oh, how convenient that Mother Brain can magically control them all due to a retcon that they didn't bring out until 20 years later. And you have to make Prime non-canon because they don't fit into the narrative. By the way, if Mother Brain could control them, why are metroids seen killing pirate researchers? Unless we're just adding another retcon to the pile.

      >this is canon from Prime that is not present in the mainline games.
Except for the whole "gamma radiation making the baby a mutant immune to ice" deal. And allowing them to clone the metroids infinitely. I guess Super Metroid is non-canon now!

      >never happened in the Metroid mainline games.
Oh right, on Sr388 they didn't even need to do this, because the queen becomes a final boss naturally. But now you're gonna move the goalposts and say "um, but she couldn't leave the planet so it doesn't count".

      >you teach them right and they become your protector too.
Just like how she almost murdered Samus on their second meeting. Not that I'd blame it, the bitch left the hatchling to be dissected.

        >What did you mean by this?
simple. the Chozo were the ones issuing orders, when the Metroid mutated they became more animalistic and turned against them because they were a threat. not to mention they possess the same technology Samus uses, why wouldnt the Metroids not feed on that?
        >Oh, how convenient that Mother Brain can magically control them all due to a retcon that they didn't bring out until 20 years later.
huh? retcon? are you fucking serious? Mother Brain being a chozo creation is not a retcon, it has been canon since Metroid 1.
        >And you have to make Prime non-canon because they don't fit into the narrative.
because it fucking isnt. pic related from the Japanese website for Metroid Samus Returns.
        >By the way, if Mother Brain could control them, why are metroids seen killing pirate researchers?
much like the Chozo couldnt fully control the Metroid and they ended up revolting against them, the same is true here.
        >Except for the whole "gamma radiation making the baby a mutant immune to ice" deal. And allowing them to clone the metroids infinitely.
gamma radiation is canon for the cloning argument, it does not make the Metroid mutate into ugly creatures.
        >h right, on Sr388 they didn't even need to do this, because the queen becomes a final boss naturally.
high consume of Aeion. whether that energy is radioactive or not is not relevant to the argument since they did not mutate in any other planet other than SR388 which is the only place where this energy was found on.
        >But now you're gonna move the goalposts and say "um, but she couldn't leave the planet so it doesn't count".
that creature was not gonna leave the planet.
        >Just like how she almost murdered Samus on their second meeting. Not that I'd blame it, the bitch left the hatchling to be dissected.

          >when the Metroid mutated they became more animalistic and turned against them because they were a threat. not to mention they possess the same technology Samus uses, why wouldnt the Metroids not feed on that?
This contradicts what you said earlier. "they would never act hostile to any native life forms unless infected by the X". What did you mean by this?

          >Mother Brain being a chozo creation is not a retcon, it has been canon since Metroid 1.
That's not the retcon, I'm talking about her magically being able to control metroids. Is this said anywhere prior to Dread or Samus Returns? I'm pretty sure she's a modified aurora unit, did they have the ability to control metroids too?

          >because it fucking isnt.
Then adding Proteus Ridley to Samus Returns made the game worse, because why add a reference to a non-canon game? See how it's confusing?

          >much like the Chozo couldnt fully control the Metroid and they ended up revolting against them, the same is true here.
So again, the metroids can and will attack anything in reach just because of it. Which is what I said earlier. YOU were the one that said that MB had full control over them, right in this post

I dont know how you related Aeion to X Parasite I thought it was clear that Metroid feed on energy.
          >Except in Super (under control of Mother Brain), and Metroid 1 (under control of Mother Brain), and all of the Prime games which are all unrelated to the mainline story.

you teach them right and they become your protector too.

          >gamma radiation is canon for the cloning argument, it does not make the Metroid mutate into ugly creatures.
Ugly is subjective in this case. I'm pretty sure the mochtroids were also made as a result of this, and they were severely failed recreations using radiation.

          >they did not mutate in any other planet other than SR388
Except for the baby on Tourian? You should word your posts better.

          >doesnt happen.
So you've never even played Super Metroid. Tell you what, go back and play it before you talk about it here.

            >they would never act hostile to any native life forms unless infected by the X
this is a completely pointless argument youre trying to drag here. the Metroid are not a threat to the Federation Force which was my initial point and that remains a fact. Convenient of someone trying so hard to move goalposts to try and make a point.
            >That's not the retcon, I'm talking about her magically being able to control metroids. Is this said anywhere prior to Dread or Samus Returns? I'm pretty sure she's a modified aurora unit, did they have the ability to control metroids too?

she literally sends the Metroids to attack you, all the while shes attacking you herself. this is CANON from Metroid 1.
Mother Brain has NOTHING TO DO WITH AURORA UNITS you fucking idiot.
            >Then adding Proteus Ridley to Samus Returns made the game worse, because why add a reference to a non-canon game? See how it's confusing?
its them reusing an existent design for a new boss in the remake of an old game, its not that deep. they did that many times with the manga already.
            >So again, the metroids can and will attack anything in reach just because of it. Which is what I said earlier. YOU were the one that said that MB had full control over them, right in this post
they will attack if they have energy to feed on. its not like they were attacking Mother Brain or the Space Pirate leader. I also want you to quot the "MB had full control over them" in my comment.
            >Except for the baby on Tourian?
what do you mean? the baby simply grew in size. no real noticeable changes to its physique compared to the Metroids on SR388.
            >So you've never even played Super Metroid.
the baby drains Samus dry of her energy but doesnt kill her, he mistook her for an enemy and flees after his mistake.

              >the Metroid are not a threat to the Federation Force which was my initial point and that remains a fact.
And yet they all died, curiously next to areas where the metroids were located. And the games never state that the local wildlife killed them. Curious.

              >she literally sends the Metroids to attack you, all the while shes attacking you herself.
But you said she couldn't control them, remember? That's why they attack the pirate researchers in Zero Mission.

              >its them reusing an existent design for a new boss in the remake of an old game, its not that deep. they did that many times with the manga already.
The manga is even less canon, why are you bringing that up?

              >they will attack if they have energy to feed on
So Mother Brain doesn't have control over them.

              >what do you mean? the baby simply grew in size. no real noticeable changes to its physique compared to the Metroids on SR388.

I want you to quote that for me.
                >The manga is even less canon, why are you bringing that up?
the games consistently keep using designs present first in the manga. the point is they reuse designs as they see fit.
                >So Mother Brain doesn't have control over them.
they never attack Mother Brain despite her having entire tubes of energy just nearby to feed on.
                >Besides it being immune to the ice beam, one of their biggest weaknesses?

                >the games consistently keep using designs present first in the manga
Designs =/ canon. Especially if they keep contradicting it.

                >they never attack Mother Brain despite her having entire tubes of energy just nearby to feed on
Did you ever consider that this is because she's deep in tourian, surrounded by defense lasers and walls and barriers? The one metroid that got through all of this IMMEDIATELY attacked her. And since Mother Brain is stronger than Samus, she should be able to control the baby.

                >that is not something it developped on its own.
That's not the point? The mutation makes it different.

                >Explain this inconsistency.

                >they were designed to attack any host with the X Virus
                >they start mutating and attack the Chozo, becoming a threat to them
its not that complicated. not to mention the sample that the Recon team captured was a non-mutated specimen.

                >>when the Metroid mutated they became more animalistic and turned against them because they were a threat
this is in relation to the Chozo, not the space pirates. youre not keeping up with the conversation anymore.
                >Designs =/ canon. Especially if they keep contradicting it.
I didnt claim the manga was canon. I simply claimed they reuse the designs as they see fit. Dumbass.
                >Did you ever consider that this is because she's deep in tourian, surrounded by defense lasers and walls and barriers? The one metroid that got through all of this IMMEDIATELY attacked her.
youre talking about the Baby from Super Metroid who already recognized Samus as their mother. im talking about the Metroids from Metroid 1 who were under the control of Mother Brain and attacking you at her orders.
These are very different situations. you dont have the excuse of the Metroids from Metroid 1 being far away when they were underground with her.
                >That's not the point? The mutation makes it different.
not physically like the ones in SR388.

                >this is in relation to the Chozo, not the space pirates.
Wrong, as seen when they attack the space pirates after mutating.

                >I didnt claim the manga was canon. I simply claimed they reuse the designs as they see fit
Is that why you used it as a reason to declare the prime series to be non-canon?

                >youre talking about the Baby from Super Metroid who already recognized Samus as their mother.
Doesn't matter, Mother Brain is a chozo creation and is much stronger, she should have complete control over the metroids. That's what you stated earlier.

                >not physically like the ones in SR388.
It's still a mutation, and it removes their ice vulnerability, so it's pretty damn similar to regular metroid evolution.

                >Then why did you lie and say that they would never attack any of the local wildlife?
they did for the Aeion energy. Metroid feed on energy. its not that complicated that a lifeform needs sustenance to survive with the X-Virus being nearly extinct now.
                >And didn't you claim that they don't attack humans, when their suits had energy in them?
they feed on their suit energy yeah, just like they do Samus. My claim is that they are not a threat to humans if they dont go there, its not complicated. They could have just kept surveilance of the planet and make sure Space Pirates wouldnt come to get some Metroids (like Ridley did in Samus Returns)

                >Wrong, as seen when they attack the space pirates after mutating.
the Space Pirates are not their owners, Mother Brain is. the Space Pirates dont have control over the Metroid. if one feeds on it thats their problem not Mother Brain's.
                >Is that why you used it as a reason to declare the prime series to be non-canon?
thats not at all what I did, as usual ACfag putting words in the mouth of others. so please go ahead and quote where I said the manga was canon.
                >Doesn't matter, Mother Brain is a chozo creation and is much stronger, she should have complete control over the metroids. That's what you stated earlier.
Samus is also a Chozo creation and I am yet to see "complete control over the metroids" quoted from my posts.
                >It's still a mutation, and it removes their ice vulnerability, so it's pretty damn similar to regular metroid evolution.
you said it yourself, its an evolution, not a mutation.

                >they did for the Aeion energy.
Then maybe you shouldn't have been "talking out of your ass" as you admitted earlier. You also shouldn't have said that they never attack wildlife. Your arguments in bad faith only sullied the discussion.

                >they feed on their suit energy yeah, just like they do Samus. My claim is that they are not a threat to humans if they dont go there,
And yet they still found ways off planet. It doesn't matter if someone helped them, they became a threat once space travel became trivial. Maybe the chozo should've foreseen someone weaponizing them. Some spiritually adept race you got there.

                >the Space Pirates are not their owners, Mother Brain is. the Space Pirates dont have control over the Metroid. if one feeds on it thats their problem not Mother Brain's.
They attacked EVERY pirate next to her. It wasn't one or two, the entire damn facility was cleaned out after a certain point. you'd think mother Brain would tell them to stop killing the pirates, since that just makes Samus' job easier.

                >thats not at all what I did,
You declared the Prime series non-canon, I can point you to the post.

                >Samus is also a Chozo creation
Not on par with Mother Brain.

                >you said it yourself, its an evolution, not a mutation.

I know you didnt play the games but the minimum you could have done is read the discussion, I already backed up with images that the Chozo did decide to destroy the planet when the Metroid became a threat they couldnt handle, but Raven Beak wanted to use the Metroids. the Space Federation Force should have guarded the planet but instead they just decided to exterminate an entire species with no research nor thought for the consequences of it, and when they found out about the X? just blow up the planet because they fucked up. Fantastic work on Federation Force's part right there. surely the Metroid are to blame for their stupidity.
                >They attacked EVERY pirate next to her. It wasn't one or two, the entire damn facility was cleaned out after a certain point. you'd think mother Brain would tell them to stop killing the pirates, since that just makes Samus' job easier.
why? the Metroids would be more competent into killing Samus so having them grab energy from the fodder is a much smarter course of action than just letting Samus kill the fodder anyway.
                >You declared the Prime series non-canon, I can point you to the post.
Its their own continuity as stated by the Japanese website. I didnt state anything, its the reality. you then asked why they reused the Ridley design from Prime, to which I replied that they also reused designs from the manga, meaning they dont give a fuck.
                >Not on par with Mother Brain.
Samus is the mother of the Metroid and the Metroids that Mother Brain controlled in 1 were clones from the Metroid sample the Space Federation captured.

Yeah, it is. And any fan will tell you that the series got worse over time, because From decided that they needed to be more cinematic and indepth. Instead of just being a merc who makes money, now you had to be a chosen one following a prophecy, like this was Kingdom Hearts. Also, way too much focus on graphics and voice acting and other clutter that did no favors for the game's performance. As you can tell, this is why I want Metroid to go back to a minimalist approach, unless you want to enjoy Metroid Prime 4 at a crisp 20 FPS.

Samus has to explore an abandoned Exelion Star Corporation research facility. She fights a variety of dangerous malfunctioning machines, alien wildlife that crawled their way inside the facility, and a prototype EMMI that lacks armor plating and the instant kill needle but makes up for it with an extensive arsenal of weapons.

That's the thing: the game contains everything they like. They don't like gameplay, because it gets in the way of the porn, so they applaud the theatre mode that lets them skip all of it. They don't like Samus unless she's showing skin, so the game retcons her suit to fall off every 5 seconds so she can be in ZSS. Heck, most people ITT don't even like the games being challenging, which is why they applaud the auto aim and regenerating health.

Samus is the mother of the Metroid and the Metroids that Mother Brain controlled in 1 were clones from the Metroid sample the Space Federation captured.

                >fantastic discussion were having gay.
You even admitted to it. Would you like me to link to your post where you say that you were arguing in bad faith?

                >I know you didnt play the games but the minimum you could have done is read the discussion, I already backed up with images that the Chozo did decide to destroy the planet when the Metroid became a threat they couldnt handle, but Raven Beak wanted to use the Metroids.
So they dragged their talons and did nothing, while things got worse and worse. Not really making their case better.

                >the Space Federation Force should have guarded the planet
They couldn't even guard a single metroid hatchling, and now you want them to protect a whole planet?

                >why? the Metroids would be more competent into killing Samus
So there are personnel to keep cloning the metroids, so there's more violent energy jellyfish to hunt Samus? I'm pretty sure Mother Brain isn't running this whole operation by herself, unless she has a pair of hands that can type on a computer screen, that don't look like a shriveled t-rex .

                >you then asked why they reused the Ridley design from Prime, to which I replied that they also reused designs from the manga, meaning they dont give a fuck.
So they just rehash designs for no reason, even if it clashes with the lore and story, something you said was perfect and without a single flaw.

                >Samus is the mother of the Metroid and the Metroids that Mother Brain controlled in 1 were clones from the Metroid sample the Space Federation captured.
She was also in charge of mutating the baby metroid. Not only does she have the chozo gene to control all metroids, she personally guided its evolution/mutation. By all logic she should have complete control over it.

                >noooo you can only like one thing at a time/you have to like one thing so much more than all other things that you may as well not like more than one thing at a time
                >if you like something that means you want MORE of it and the only reason you could possibly want MORE of something easy is if you're BAD
this is objectively wrong. could someone not be satisfied with exactly how a game is right at the moment, and simply arguing in its favor?

He thinks liking oorn is liking Other M. He thinks he actually steers the discussion in Metroid threads. Holy shit. He has a messiah complex or something.
