    Why does he pretend like SotN wasn't clearly inspired by Metroid? Sure you can bring up Zelda since everyone and their mother played it, but SotN doesn't have Zelda's overworld-dungeon structure, it has a Metroid-style interconnected world.
    It's kinda like how the Hollow Knight devs act like they weren't inspired by Dark Souls. Come on now.

            i owned Deadly Silence, and i've seen that RE2 first-person recreation.

      I've always heard it was Zelda 2 that was the influence, same for how Metroid just took the 2D aspect of the game and expanded on it.

      Probably some form of nip pride. There's a lot of games out there that companies/devs like to make it seem like it was some imacculate conception which is why they'll mention how it was inspired by some real life experiences rather than some older game.

    Zelda and Metroid are fundamentally the same, I don't know why people think they're a different genre.

    That's stupid. Every game calling itself a "Metroidvania" is just ripping off Metroid. Barely any games actually have any of the elements that Castlevania brought to the table.
    Seriously SotN's only contribution to the formula was JRPG elements, which most Metroidvanias don't even have.
