>MGS2 leaves you to question where liquid went off to and what his whole plan is
>Game simply drops the revelation that the patriots died like a 100 years ago
>Even after dropping this tantalizing revelation that feels like it's building towards a sequel Kojima still insists that MGS2 was supposed to be the end of the series
I still can't wrap my head around the idea that Kojima actually wanted to end things with MGS2. It genuinely felt like it was trying to build up some sort of sequel towards the end like the first game but instead we got the meme that is 4 that might as well be fanfiction. Did Kojima really think that no sane person would ever ask for an actual sequel after baiting them that hard?

Because all you can see is a surface level. It's a video game and your experience is what it matters. Kojima literally told you: "don't be a moronic gamer and find a reason to live. And if your reason to live is to play video games you should have a nice day. "
>And if your reason to live is to play video games you should have a nice day.
The only reason Japs can say that shit with a straight face is because they unironically believe in reincarnation. In reality, nobody really knows what happens when you die, and it could very well be better to live your entire life a NEET if it means you get to experience life for longer.
Kojima basically monologues through Snake at the end of the and tells Raiden (the player) to go find and/or create your own meaning in the world. It's subtle, cryptic and very convoluted but that's what that ending scene boils down to.
>tfw Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday
Dunno. I remember finishing MGS2 and immediately thinking that this is where the series should end as any follow-up would suck. I didn't yet know Kojima's or anyone else's opinion on the matter so it came to me instinctually
Kojima is a hack, don't take him or his work too seriously.
Kojima's biggest low IQ move was to make MGS3 after 2 instead of concluding Snake's story first. MGS4 should've been MGS3.
But we all hated MGS4 amirite?
>Kojima still insists that MGS2 was supposed to be the end of the series
It wasn't. It was supposed to be HIS last MG game, other devs were supposed to take over which is why the game is all about passing on shit to the next gen.
I don't consider the last phone calls canon.
Snake and Liquid not knowing the president looks like Big Boss, the patriots being already dead, ocelot working for the Cia when he's trying to kill you so many times... the story is better if you ignore those.
I prefer my own headcanon.
I'm pretty sure Kojima has acted like literally every Metal Gear game was going to be the last one, including the first one.
It WAS supposed to be the last one. Remember that in MGS, Snake returns from retirement for one last mission. He's supposed to be too traumatized to continue being a proper agent.
A big part of MG2 is game being shitpost against the very idea of having to make a sequel. He was already bored of Snake and wanted Big Boss
It literally being the same character is more of an argument for Kojima being a sperg than an argument against sequels.
No, I mean LITERALLY the first one. Apparently he only even made Metal Gear 2 because someone working on Snake's Revenge suggested he make a real sequel.
Also the whole thing with MGS2 being a criticism of sequel rehashing falls flat when he already did the same goddamn thing multiple times in MG2 and MGS2 (character from a prior game returning as a cyborg ninja, using remote control missiles to disable an electrified walkway, etc).
He drops a massive post credits plot twist at the end of every MGS game because he's a homosexual and his audience won't think too much about it.
This tbh. Every other game Kojima has made has been a standalone title (besides now, Death Stranding). He lost his soul somewhere along the way. The exact point is debatable.
>Did Kojima really think that no sane person would ever ask for an actual sequel after baiting them that hard?
yes. on his podcast he complained about people constantly thinking he's making a new Metal Gear or Silent Hill after he's spent an entire career messing with people like this.
>There is a universe where we didn't get this subversive meta-commentary about memes and determinism and instead got Snake and Otacon dabbing on all the regional knock off metalgears that sprung up after shadow moses.
I mean I just want to experience that universe you know?
It's funny how pulling quotes across time utterly annihilates any of the modern poseur-auteurs, yet the grift never ends. You could put any given >120 IQ gamer in Kojima's shoes tomorrow and the next title his studio released wouldn't suffer at all for it. His entire schtick is just being a typical MFA student who plays video games, except he has money behind him due to a biography whose luck defies description. The dude literally fell into his throne.
Kojima is particularly funny because his persona depends entirely on his wacky asian-ness. His AR games and marketing stunts are Peter Molyneux cringe on steroids, and they're excused entirely because XD da japs so weeeeird
Hopefully now that weebs are mainstream af in the new generation, the pendulum swings on this and Kojima becomes dadcringe.
Speak English.
Hey now, be nice to Kojima. He's trying his best.
