Listen here, Hunters from all around the world!
The FULL english translation for the japanese only release of Monster Hunter 2 DOS is finally done!
It is 100% complete!
>W-what? That is so cool!
Yes, it is indeed fellow hunters.
How do I use it?
>get a clean MH2 .iso
>get Delta Patcher
>get the translation patch here: https://break-arts.com/projects/mh2dos/
>get the control scheme overhaul here: https://github.com/GReinoso96/MH2Plus (optional)
AND START HUNTING!
MH DOS is unlike every other game of the series with many unique features exclusive to this game
I'm a FU CHAD, I will try it out. Thanks friend
doesn't it fuck up Dundorma access? I don't consider that "complete"
This is a simple translation. It can not prevent you from accessing inline features by design
Literally no point in playing without full online capability
You're making the same shill thread every day. Why?
Because he's clearly making tons of money telling people about a translation patch.
I'm sorry anon, but if you've become so jaded that you can't understand why someone would legitimately be interested in a video game when there's clearly nothing to personally gain from it, you've become too jaded and you need to leave this site for your own good.
Playing through it right now, I have it running at 120% speed for now (>inb4 zoomer) but it's peak comfy
One thing I'm struggling with is figuring out the optimal controller grip for both movement and camera on the DualShock
>just use the control overhaul
no
??? You need to use left hand claw, retard. Please remember DS2 controller was smaller than the new ones.
I'm well aware, but do you expect me to play it on a real DS2? I suppose the DS3 is sufficiently smaller
Yeah it'll be very uncomfortable I suggest you use the control patch.
Clawing even on PSP was pretty uncomfortable. I can do claw with both hands and use it when playing FPS with a controller for example but it's pretty fucking obvious our fingers were not made to function like that. It's not healthy in the long run.
Keepin' it real!
Good luck my fren
>will run the game at 120%
>won't use a control overhaul
???
I don't want to use the control overhaul because it makes the game more generic, plus I found it works better for the triangle + circle combo
I'm probably fucking myself over one way or another as
says but whatever
maybe I'll finally get some use out of the Move controller kek
Just use PCSX2 mate
NO ONE GIVES A SHIT
That's fucking great, finally!
Would anyone care to spoonfeed me an iso?
There you go anon
UNTOUCHED JP MH2 ISO to apply xdeltas yourself
https://pixeldrain%2Ecom/u/gFAHiNSN
PATCHED MH2 ISO with BreakArts + MH2Plus 1.3 (GS Draw fix)
https://pixeldrain%2Ecom/u/d6BHrBGP
The latter ISO comes with the control overhaul, so the right stick controls the camera and you attack with triangle and circle
Much obliged, fren
No problem, I pulled it from the previous thread, hopefully emulator anon shows up again
Thanks, this GS is literally just a fuckhuge bone with zero sharpness, bounces a lot but kill stuff dead
How the fuck do I beat cephadrome? I've timed out on this fucker three times. I have the pig hammer and iron gunlance.
hit him more
sonic bombs or small barrel bombs help, also if you're struggling due to time, bombs help
Hammer and gunlance should both be OK at killing him, Bow is probably the easiest against him, try that, even just for fun. In old games you are much more incentivized to try out multiple weapon types instead of sticking to your "main"
Please don't time out on Cephadrome Anon. He is one of the easiest monsters in existence
I just chased him all over the map. Maybe had a window to attack him every 7 minutes or so.
That's your problem then. Use sonic bombs when he is in the sand to get him out. Also use shock traps.
Is this your first MH?
Not my first mh but I have barely come across the standard usable items, even making poison bombs to farm vespoids for their set wasn't viable.
whats different about dos?
Finally. Get rekt Burango, you can keep your precious shitty fanfic to yourself now. Thanks for nothing.
>Finally. Get rekt Burango, you can keep your precious shitty fanfic to yourself now. Thanks for nothing.
What did Burango do?
I don't know actually I just hated the stupid smileys in the quest descriptions.
What emulator do I run this on? It's been a while since I've emulated anything ps2
If you need to ask you don't need to know.
>being an ass for no reason
Nice. Keep it up.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Animal Crossing Dos
Fuck off trying to shill this soulless bugmen grind simulator, even world and rise are better games than this shit you pretend to like because youtubers made videos about it. I hate this board and braindead millenials
This never made it to the west did it? I recall playing the absolute fuck out of 1 on the PS2. I literally had pages from a magazine cut out and saved for the year it was being advertised because it looked like the coolest game I'd ever seen, and it was. But I remember going from 1 to PSP with nothing in between. Holy fuck I played MH on PSP from like 6th grade to 12th grade I could be a master at anything and instead I have 6,000 hours just in digital hunts my parents was fucking worthless.
A-at least y-you're a master hunter r-right?
Yeah I'm pretty good I guess. Fwiw (it isn't worth much) I played over 1,000 hours in World and haven't carted. Lots of the animations are legacy or close enough. In fact I can notice that many legacy monsters are deliberately designed to punish veterans who expect a certain movement. I did not care for Rise, it was way too easy. I'm like the Western version of those Japanese players who, when they entered your lobby, you knew everything would be ok.
>This never made it to the west did it?
No, it wasn't. And that is specifically the reason for this translation. Dos only ever released in japan
I almost failed my first, mushroom collecting quest because of the hermitaurs. The old games are janky garbage but I can see the appeal, I hope the series will go back to its roots one day with the current level of polish
Newfag here, does anyone know how to make the camera bind to mouse movements? I remember making it work with MGS3, but it was fucking terrible because it just recognized "moving mouse to right" as "button held down" which really didn't mesh well with the joystick's acceleration, basically either the camera barely moved or was spining uncontrollably.
that was half a decade ago and the UI is completely different now, I'm lost pls haelp
I don't have a controller, but I do have a PSP, I don't reckon you can use that on account of only one joystick, right?
I dunno mate, but real Yakuza use a gamepad
reWASD or similar but it's not going to be very fun experience.
If you want to play with a mouse just play World
I dont wanna play with mouse but I also dont want to buy a controller
I think someone has played MHFU with keyboard only (and don't remember where did I know this from is it from here or from gamefaqs..) so you could just use keyboard altogether.
You see, the camera control is not that important and it mostly goes sideways anyway. Then there's the camera reset button which resets it to look along your character.
Some sort of wacky wasd+numpad setup might work. Mouse won't be useful as it can't be properly mapped.
Holy
OP showing us that we are not in the worse timeline and that there is yet hope for this world.
Appreciate it mate.
I didn't work on the tranlation though. These people are the real kings.
The messenger should be rewarded still.
Does this allow access to Dundorma as well? I made the mistake of playing MH1 on my PS2, and apparently you can only access Minegarde via emulation or having the Japanese disc on hand which I ain't got. On that note is at all possible to transfer PS2 saves from card to PC because I seriously do not want to restart MH1 again.
It is possible to transfer saves, you just need a FreeMcBoot and/or homebrewed PS2 which is pretty easy to come by.
It is not possible to transfer saves from the US version to the Japanese version though. I played through the whole game on PCSX2 before I found that out. Means I can't play on the private server unless I replay the Jap version.
>It is not possible to transfer saves from the US version to the Japanese version though.
There is no US version
Holy shit, you absolute moron. I was answering that Anon's (
) question regarding MONSTER HUNTER 1. If you had any reading comprehension above a third grade level maybe you could understand that. Learn how to follow a reply chain before posting. I'll spell it out for you. It is not possible to transfer saves from NTSC-U Monster Hunter 1 to NTSC-JP Monster Hunter 1. The Monster Hunter 1 private servers require you to have a NTSC-JP save file on the NTSC-JP version of the game, so that Anon will have to play through the entire game again even if he backs up his Monster Hunter 1 NTSC-U save to the PC (if he wants to access the multiplayer servers).
>It is not possible to transfer saves from NTSC-U Monster Hunter 1 to NTSC-JP Monster Hunter 1. Yea, absolutely.
Could you not just edit the save?
According to the developers of the server, the saves of MH1 US and MH1 JP are too different. It's not just a region flag or something, they're two pretty different games. For example, there are no Dual Blades in MH1 JP.
I'm sure someone could develop a tool to convert it, but they'd be digging through with a hex editor which would take ages. There isn't anything like that at the moment. If someone doesn't want to replay the game again, the best option is probably looking for a JP save with the village quests completed.
Is it safe to patch the already patched iso with the new control patch update? I just did it (after turning off checksum check from xdelta) but not sure if it did something unwanted too.
I'd hate to download a new iso etc.
just make a copy of the file to patch?
why would you need to re-download?
I don't think you understood my question.
If you're patching the original+translation ISO, should work.
If you're patching original+translation+control overhaul with another version of the overhaul, I'm not too sure, best make a backup.
I ended up downloading the latest patched iso... Such is life.
its only liek 2gb
Yeah but every gb is precious. Every gb is like my own child.
I suppose I have thousands of children
Why would you ever play Dos when FU exist? What kind of mental illness do you need to have in order to play Dos?
it's harder and has more interesting mechanics
>more interesting mechanics
Such as?
>has more interesting mechanics
name 5 (five)
>it's harder
c'mon now
NTA and I havent played with it yet but just the season system is enough of a reason for me to give it a whirl
On a related topic, I am playing with a keyboard and every time I press a button it opens up a window to type into, how the fuck do I disable that?
because everyone and their uncles have been playing FU for ages.
Why play dos when you can play frontier
Here comes the frontier chud, Jesus man, shut the fuck up already, no one will play your shovelware.
FU is casual babyshit for wagies on a 15 minute train ride. Dos actually attempts to do its own genre, and that's worth experiencing.
Fuck off, larper. Not a single FU CHAD would ever shit on DOS. We've been over this already.
Dos is a shittier FU ain't it? Is like saying that you will play Tri instead of 3U, absolutely idiotic.
They're basically entirely different games using the same assets.
why are pirates doing us robobros dirty?
>Online doesn't exist yet
Sad. I thought the Old School devs had already crossed that mountain. I wish them luck.
That's a TRANSLATION, not an online mod. Can you read?
Can you read? I never said anything complaining about the translation, moron. They're doing God's work, I very much appreciate the effort and the ability to play a fully translated version of Dos. I just want to play Dos online. Hopefully this translation will push development interest a bit further.
If you don't understand the words I've written please reply again and I can spell it out for you, you brain dead retard.
See, that sounds a lot better. Should have said it like this from the start so there'd be no missunderstanding. Sorry!
The Dos online server is in beta testing phase. They have some kind of discord server. Just like every other game chud these days.
This guy has closed beta access to the server. Looks buggy as fuck still, but the closed beta test videos only go back 4 months or so, so it's pretty early in development.
How are these absolute chads doing that without having access to the server code?
the MH1J private servers only got started because they used similar code to the RE : outbreak servers, and dos is somewhat similar to MH1J so its the next jump. still taking a while longer but having the real dundorma again over the scaled down 4U version will be neat
Reverse-Engineering-Black-Magic
Monster Hunter threads have improved tenfold ever since the Dos patch dropped.
Coincidence?
It's mostly because /mhg/ is not involved.
the dos threads are great until the tendies show up and falseflag as FU fans and just start shit for no reason
If this was about my question as to the differences between this and freedom 2, I'm not a troll. I'm just curious because I've never played a MH game and have been looking at the games and variants. I still don't know much.
not you but the last dos thread was overrun with tendie secondaries shitflinging. as for your question, most of dos's more unique mechanics were either stripped down, scaled back or removed for F2/FU, in the sense these games arent really "dos + more", but rather smaller different games that just use some of the same maps and monsters. stuff like farming for meal items, season rotations, hub minigames, great hunting party/arena monster pvp, being able to visit MH1's village, elder dragon town invasion events, upgrading low rank armor into high rank armor with different stats, upgrading armor with monster parts, house and village visual upgrades, and the bounty board are all missing from the psp games. they arent bad but it miffs me when people just say "oh FU is better just play that its the same" when they clearly arent beyond having the same monsters and locations
Thanks for the qrd. the wikia page showing all the games is massive.
think of it like this. MH1, dos and tri are the bigger more online focused games, like a console MMO. then the psp counterparts are the scaled down offshoots made for solo and local play. kind of like phantasy star vs phantasy tar portable, which MH was originally inspired by
quality post
Did you beat DOS?
i've actually only played a little bit in preparation for the online launch, and while it feels very similar coming from FU its progression is slower paced and less rushed. overall i like it so far and the mainline consoles games slower pace and bigger online focus are a main draw for me, just like with MH1 and minegard
I think I am in a similar boat. Bit through with FU yet though, I still need to do Fatal is. But I am thinking about playing Dos now or just wait for the proper online severs. But maybe I am expecting too much too soon
dos actually has a fleshed out offline village unlike MH1, sure its still mostly an online focused game but its not gonna have ultra slow progression if you just do the offline story. you'd need to do it anyway for the village and food upgrades anyway
The community is healing from zoomershit.
Tendies are sleeping. Post MH
So what's the current progress on classic MH?
MH1
>Official western release. Unofficial Online Server available
MH1G
>Translation (?). Unofficial Online Server available
MH2 DOS
>Translation available. Unofficial Online Server in early beta.
MH Freedom
>Official western release. Unofficial Online Server available
MH Freedom 2
>Official western release. Unofficial Online Server available
MH Freedom 2G
>Official western release. Unofficial Online Server available
all except dos and tri can be played online, and even dos and tri servers are making fast progress for a release soon
>all except dos and tri can be played online, and even dos and tri servers are making fast progress for a release soon
Let's fucking go
>MH DOS is unlike every other game of the series with many unique features exclusive to this game
It's really not that different from Freedom and F2. People overstate the impact of seasons because of that one YT essay. I guess if you've only played MH games that have palicos, then it is pretty different.
I don't know which "YT essay" you are talking about, but your post reeks of envy and resentment. Also a lot of projection when you are the only one knowing about some gay youtube video but accusing others of having seen it.
Who hurt you, anon?
What is the final guild monster hunt in Dos?
Works on ps2, right? disc and hdd?
the translations for 1J, G and dos all work on real hardware, as does the private server. all can be done on a real ps2 just as if the official servers were still running
Time to play some motherfucking ps2 then, thanks lad.
>used up all 3 first aid meds
>next hit is a cart
>gendrom get's sniped by wannabe bowgunner
Thanks cephalos
>funlance
How good is it in Dos? I wanted to use it as it was introduced here, but trying Lance beforehand was really awkward
Wyvernfire feels like it's on a one minute cooldown. Other than that, doesn't feel like much change from mhfu
So it's very lame then?
Blowing up monsters is fun.
Yes, just like in every other MH.
It's so sad... Every game is the same, also lance is so and so.
Lance was very good in MH1 and Tri
GL is great in World and I think in Rise too. I didn't play much of the latter.
AFAIK it was always kinda meh in the earlier games. World opened up the moveset a bit to make it less rigid.
wyvernfire actually has a shorter cooldown in dos and gunlance has i-frames on a few moves like reloading and shooting. other then that though its pretty underpowered along with the other new weapons
What's the weapon meta like in Dos? What's good and what's bad? The first game I played was FU and that was so long ago I don't really remember anything of it.
I'm guessing Quad doesn't quite work the same in Japanese. Since they were Dosu and Torai.
>MH2 was called Dos
>MH3 was called Tri
>MH4 was just MH4
Why did they stop doing that?
but im trying to learn 日本語
>online for this entered closed beta a few months ago
>online for tri has been in closed beta for whats felt like a year
i know its completely different people working on tris online but god damn i hope dos doesnt suffer the same fate
No matter what happens it's going to be very small scale.
How the fuck do I deal with the small monsters? I can kill Bulldrome with a hammer very easily but not when it's surrounded by THREE smaller ones.
This is just so fucking annoying. The monster patterns itself are pretty clunky and easy to predict but the small monster aggression is way too high for this game to be enjoyable solo. At least I don't know.
Kill the small monsters first?
They aren't invincible you know
In many places the small monsters will spawn infinitely. You kill all of them there's already couple new behind your back. In some scenarios it is impossible to even kill them because you get nailed from 4 different directions at once if the big monster is in the same room.
I don't remember if MHFU had infinitely spawning small monsters. I would say no but can't be sure.
>I don't remember if MHFU had infinitely spawning small monsters. I would say no but can't be sure.
My memories are vague but I do remember it being an issue in FU. Might've been that I was just bad at the game.
they didn't respawn infinitely but they did respawn at least twice per area
i remember farming velocipreys until they stopped spawning, exiting and reentering
I guess I just remember it being a fucking pain in the ass to clear them to be able to fight the monster properly.
I can only speak for FU, but most small monsters in FU do NOT spawn infinitely. They have a set amount of spawns.
Why randomly bring up MHFU? It came out 2 years after DOS and is a portable game instead of a home console game. Better comparison would be does MH1 have infinite respawning small monsters.
Please have a nice day.
Using adds is one of the ways early MH tried to make things difficult, otherwise monsters health pools are way smaller then later games.
>people getting angry that Anons want to go back and play older MH games
People calling themselves gamers are cucked beyond belief. Nothing new here.
I've literally never played a MH game in my life and I never will. I'm 36 and owned every Nintendo console and handhold and also always had a gaming pc
Anon it's okay if you have shit taste.
Ok
What's the point of playing this over FU again? More Mexican?
Getting a more immersive role as a hunter-gatherer with a focus on resource management and risk management, since nothing is free and easy.
Oh sweet so you get less monsters/ content and more tedium when gathering and trying to access higher end quests. Seems totally worth it.
Less is more.
>MH DOS is unlike every other game of the series with many unique features exclusive to this game
Such as...?
Played it with the "Team Burango" patch ages ago...
Well, how was it? Share the experience anon
flavor text not translated, that included whatever tips the villagers gave you, so I went mostly blind. the game's nowhere as grindy as MH1 and you can fight Lao Shen and Kirin offline (I think you only miss Fatalis and Rajang). Never played the portable games, so I'm not sure if they are easier or not.
But was it fun
Yeah, way more than 1.
Btw, FU fags were still obnoxious back in the early 10s.
