Because he's clearly making tons of money telling people about a translation patch.
I'm sorry anon, but if you've become so jaded that you can't understand why someone would legitimately be interested in a video game when there's clearly nothing to personally gain from it, you've become too jaded and you need to leave this site for your own good.

Playing through it right now, I have it running at 120% speed for now (>inb4 zoomer) but it's peak comfy

Yeah it'll be very uncomfortable I suggest you use the control patch.
Clawing even on PSP was pretty uncomfortable. I can do claw with both hands and use it when playing FPS with a controller for example but it's pretty fricking obvious our fingers were not made to function like that. It's not healthy in the long run.

How the frick do I beat cephadrome? I've timed out on this fricker three times. I have the pig hammer and iron gunlance.

      Anonymous

      hit him more

sonic bombs or small barrel bombs help, also if you're struggling due to time, bombs help

Hammer and gunlance should both be OK at killing him, Bow is probably the easiest against him, try that, even just for fun. In old games you are much more incentivized to try out multiple weapon types instead of sticking to your "main"

This never made it to the west did it? I recall playing the absolute frick out of 1 on the PS2. I literally had pages from a magazine cut out and saved for the year it was being advertised because it looked like the coolest game I'd ever seen, and it was. But I remember going from 1 to PSP with nothing in between. Holy frick I played MH on PSP from like 6th grade to 12th grade I could be a master at anything and instead I have 6,000 hours just in digital hunts my parents was fricking worthless.

Yeah I'm pretty good I guess. Fwiw (it isn't worth much) I played over 1,000 hours in World and haven't carted. Lots of the animations are legacy or close enough. In fact I can notice that many legacy monsters are deliberately designed to punish veterans who expect a certain movement. I did not care for Rise, it was way too easy. I'm like the Western version of those Japanese players who, when they entered your lobby, you knew everything would be ok.

newbie here, does anyone know how to make the camera bind to mouse movements? I remember making it work with MGS3, but it was fricking terrible because it just recognized "moving mouse to right" as "button held down" which really didn't mesh well with the joystick's acceleration, basically either the camera barely moved or was spining uncontrollably.

that was half a decade ago and the UI is completely different now, I'm lost pls haelp

I don't have a controller, but I do have a PSP, I don't reckon you can use that on account of only one joystick, right?

I think someone has played MHFU with keyboard only (and don't remember where did I know this from is it from here or from gamefaqs..) so you could just use keyboard altogether.
You see, the camera control is not that important and it mostly goes sideways anyway. Then there's the camera reset button which resets it to look along your character.

Some sort of wacky wasd+numpad setup might work. Mouse won't be useful as it can't be properly mapped.

Does this allow access to Dundorma as well? I made the mistake of playing MH1 on my PS2, and apparently you can only access Minegarde via emulation or having the Japanese disc on hand which I ain't got. On that note is at all possible to transfer PS2 saves from card to PC because I seriously do not want to restart MH1 again.

      Anonymous

It is possible to transfer saves, you just need a FreeMcBoot and/or homebrewed PS2 which is pretty easy to come by.
It is not possible to transfer saves from the US version to the Japanese version though. I played through the whole game on PCSX2 before I found that out. Means I can't play on the private server unless I replay the Jap version.

) question regarding MONSTER HUNTER 1. If you had any reading comprehension above a third grade level maybe you could understand that. Learn how to follow a reply chain before posting. I'll spell it out for you. It is not possible to transfer saves from NTSC-U Monster Hunter 1 to NTSC-JP Monster Hunter 1. The Monster Hunter 1 private servers require you to have a NTSC-JP save file on the NTSC-JP version of the game, so that Anon will have to play through the entire game again even if he backs up his Monster Hunter 1 NTSC-U save to the PC (if he wants to access the multiplayer servers).

              Anonymous

According to the developers of the server, the saves of MH1 US and MH1 JP are too different. It's not just a region flag or something, they're two pretty different games. For example, there are no Dual Blades in MH1 JP.
I'm sure someone could develop a tool to convert it, but they'd be digging through with a hex editor which would take ages. There isn't anything like that at the moment. If someone doesn't want to replay the game again, the best option is probably looking for a JP save with the village quests completed.

not you but the last dos thread was overrun with tendie secondaries shitflinging. as for your question, most of dos's more unique mechanics were either stripped down, scaled back or removed for F2/FU, in the sense these games arent really "dos + more", but rather smaller different games that just use some of the same maps and monsters. stuff like farming for meal items, season rotations, hub minigames, great hunting party/arena monster pvp, being able to visit MH1's village, elder dragon town invasion events, upgrading low rank armor into high rank armor with different stats, upgrading armor with monster parts, house and village visual upgrades, and the bounty board are all missing from the psp games. they arent bad but it miffs me when people just say "oh FU is better just play that its the same" when they clearly arent beyond having the same monsters and locations

think of it like this. MH1, dos and tri are the bigger more online focused games, like a console MMO. then the psp counterparts are the scaled down offshoots made for solo and local play. kind of like phantasy star vs phantasy tar portable, which MH was originally inspired by

i've actually only played a little bit in preparation for the online launch, and while it feels very similar coming from FU its progression is slower paced and less rushed. overall i like it so far and the mainline consoles games slower pace and bigger online focus are a main draw for me, just like with MH1 and minegard

dos actually has a fleshed out offline village unlike MH1, sure its still mostly an online focused game but its not gonna have ultra slow progression if you just do the offline story. you'd need to do it anyway for the village and food upgrades anyway

It's really not that different from Freedom and F2. People overstate the impact of seasons because of that one YT essay. I guess if you've only played MH games that have palicos, then it is pretty different.

I don't know which "YT essay" you are talking about, but your post reeks of envy and resentment. Also a lot of projection when you are the only one knowing about some gay youtube video but accusing others of having seen it.

the translations for 1J, G and dos all work on real hardware, as does the private server. all can be done on a real PS2 just as if the official servers were still running

How good is it in Dos? I wanted to use it as it was introduced here, but trying Lance beforehand was really awkward

Wyvernfire feels like it's on a one minute cooldown. Other than that, doesn't feel like much change from mhfu

GL is great in World and I think in Rise too. I didn't play much of the latter.

AFAIK it was always kinda meh in the earlier games. World opened up the moveset a bit to make it less rigid.

wyvernfire actually has a shorter cooldown in dos and gunlance has i-frames on a few moves like reloading and shooting. other then that though its pretty underpowered along with the other new weapons

What's the weapon meta like in Dos? What's good and what's bad? The first game I played was FU and that was so long ago I don't really remember anything of it.

            >MH2 was called Dos
            >MH3 was called Tri
            >MH4 was just MH4
Why did they stop doing that?

I'm guessing Quad doesn't quite work the same in Japanese. Since they were Dosu and Torai.

How the frick do I deal with the small monsters? I can kill Bulldrome with a hammer very easily but not when it's surrounded by THREE smaller ones.
This is just so fricking annoying. The monster patterns itself are pretty clunky and easy to predict but the small monster aggression is way too high for this game to be enjoyable solo. At least I don't know.

      Kill the small monsters first?
      They aren't invincible you know

In many places the small monsters will spawn infinitely. You kill all of them there's already couple new behind your back. In some scenarios it is impossible to even kill them because you get nailed from 4 different directions at once if the big monster is in the same room.

Using adds is one of the ways early MH tried to make things difficult, otherwise monsters health pools are way smaller then later games.

I don't remember if MHFU had infinitely spawning small monsters. I would say no but can't be sure.

My memories are vague but I do remember it being an issue in FU. Might've been that I was just bad at the game.

they didn't respawn infinitely but they did respawn at least twice per area

I can only speak for FU, but most small monsters in FU do NOT spawn infinitely. They have a set amount of spawns.

I guess I just remember it being a fricking pain in the ass to clear them to be able to fight the monster properly.

Why randomly bring up MHFU? It came out 2 years after DOS and is a portable game instead of a home console game. Better comparison would be does MH1 have infinite respawning small monsters.

flavor text not translated, that included whatever tips the villagers gave you, so I went mostly blind. the game's nowhere as grindy as MH1 and you can fight Lao Shen and Kirin offline (I think you only miss Fatalis and Rajang). Never played the portable games, so I'm not sure if they are easier or not.
