tango devs even said they were just starting pre-production of Hi-Fi Rush 2 and had an in-office celebration party for their 14th anniversary last month

do u think these people practice how to cut cakes the "proper" way. im just thinking if i had to cut a cake i wouldnt think to do it in a photogenic way like that

        Anonymous

no. in my experience company events like this usually have some employee tasked with taking photos. the photo person would've told cake cutting dude to go to that side for a better shot. same with how people are arranged around the table, anyone in the way would've been asked to scoot over for the shot.

    It's simple.
They needed to cut studios to meet their bottom line.
They cut the studios that currently weren't working on a game and were in the pitching stages - aka studios that are 3-5 years, if not longer, out from lauching their games.

Their end game is to consolidate completely on a few massive franchises like fallout, call of duty, world of warcraft, and cut basically everything else.

      Anonymous

It's really the fault of g*mers who continue to lap up whatever complete slop these companies put out. None of those franchises have been good for over a decade.

      Anonymous

So why are the people who make these decisions say "we need small award winning games" after culling their small, award winning studio

        Anonymous

        Because they mean
        >we need small award winning games now
        not
        >we need the team of a small award winning game to spend the next 3-5 years on the gamble that the game is a hit
but they can't outright say that because PR.

I personally think it's a stupid move, but I can understand why they're doing it and what logic goes into a decision like that.

They could have just ignored all those other studios in the first place and saved some money.

    >what's Xbox's endgame here
Now that ABK makes up the vast majority of Xbox's revenue and profit, and Xbox has basically taken out an $82 billion loan from Microsoft, their only hope to survive and pay back that loan is to maximize profit from ABK since the rest of Xbox's costs/revenue are basically rounding errors in comparison.
In a weird way, it's more like ABK replaced Xbox, and Xbox is basically a redundant division now

At this point the mere existence of ABK has done more damage than anything else to game industry.

I think we are beyond the argument that Sony needs Microsoft / a competitor to keep them in check and not turn into a complete monopoly. The existence of Microsoft has been a continuous disaster to gaming. The industry would be healthier without them. From now on I'll hope that the pajeet will just close the entire division down and go back to milking world governments with Windows and Azure licenses. At least that's less harmful.

It took a tremendous amount of grinding for Fromsoft and DMA Design to get where they are today (and I'd argue that wienerstar is a soulless husk, infinitely divorced from its roots); how are developers expected to improve if they're getting shut down for only being modestly successful?

        Anonymous

Listen, if you want to be only modestly succesful, then go be a caretaker at an old folks home or learn how to install solar panels on roofs. 100% guaranteed jobsecurity. No shareholders or improvement to worry about.

          Anonymous

Being a PSW or caretaker in my country pays fricking shit for what you have to deal with on a daily basis. No idea about solar panels though, as my general location is anti-sun with how frequently it is overcast here.

Fromsoft is an example of this, DMA coasted on Lemmings money until GTA and they would have probably shut down just the same if they were just going to make unirally clones forever instead.

It took From Soft 30+ years to get to Demon's souls and another 10 years to where they are today. Do you think Elden Ring is the kind of game that happens over night? Or maybe it takes years of perfecting your development pipelines and craft before you can make something on that scale?
