i don't think death stranding is remotely abstract. however, a lot of autists didn't get the emotional side of the story, you'll see them complaining about lore inconsistenties instead of criticizing the emotions

I felt like on my first playthrough the overall weirdness of the setting made me unable to establish stakes and empathy for the characters. By the time I could feel that they were real people and not just weird abstractions the game was almost over and people were already dead.
The second time I played the story was a lot more emotionally impactful. Although full disclosure I didn't guess the BB twist until it happened so i might be moronic.

The reason we play video games is to experience what we can't in real life.
The core gameplay of Death Stranding is walking from point A to point B.
You do this every day of your life.
Don't walk blindly into bumpy and jagged rocks. Steep hills are tiring. You knew this as a child.
Why is a walking simulator acceptable for a AAA game?

There is a planning phase which is made redundant due to the strand system. Why would I bother bringing a ladder and rope if it's already out there?
The traversal is brain-dead easy. If you can hike in real life, you can hike in Death Stranding.
The combat is dull, boring, and frustrating.
Being stuck in the mud is the opposite of fun.
The boss fight/flight is annoying and tedious.
It's just there to inconvenience you.
The building mechanic is simply placing down a foundation, and then engaging in the mind-numbingly tedious job of dragging the materials to the foundation.
When you've placed your road, bridge, or zipline - you can then skip the walking and boss fights.
Have you heard of a game where its main objective was for the game itself to be skipped?
The end game then becomes: waiting for Sam to arrive at your new destination, drop your cargo, then get a thank you from the world's most boring NPCs.

    Art criticism is subjective.
But if someone splashes some paint on a blank canvas and calls it art - I'm gonna have to call him out on his bullshit.
No, it's not some form of high art that only the most enlightened of individuals can understand.
The world of Death Stranding is empty, save for a number of distribution centers that look identical, and private rooms that also look identical.
Instead of giving us more cutscenes (the only thing good about this "game"), we are given exposition dumps upon exposition dumps in the form of journal entries.
The story is unique. The cutscenes look great.
But that alone is not what makes a game, a game.

    Death Stranding sucks.
Kojima is a hack and a fraud.

I can go to war irl does that make an FPS obsolete?
I mean death stranding is pretty much a stealth horror game centered around traversing terrain while avoiding invisible enemies.
The ziplines are moronic though and I’m so glad I finished the game before building my 1st one.

Well the demons bit already is unrealistic.
80% of Death Stranding is walking, just walking. And you can do that in real life easily.
Sure, I can also pick up some heavy objects - but I don't want to.
                >But I want to pick up heavy objects in a video game even though I don't feel it at all besides some rudimentary balancing trigger buttons.

Do you hate movies that are grounded in reality and portray real drama? Death Stranding tells the story of a man deeply wonded by losing his family to Nature and things he cant control. Sam is so scared of loving people that he gets an allergic reaction to human touch. Everything on the gameplay serves the purpose of portraying overcoming loneliness and accepting people into his life again. Not only him, all of the world is deprived of love and connections with other people, and you as the player go in a quest to reconnect people and free them from loneliness.

Never said that. You are saying that X media HAS to deal with escapism and do shit you cant do in real life, so I ask if you apply the same to media Y. Try to keep up moron

            Anonymous

Never said "escapism" either. Video games are interesting when they allow us to do things that are difficult/impossible/illegal in real life. It actually has nothing to do with escapism. Escapism is only when you "live" in the virtual world. I can play games to have fun and still have a life.

Now, Death Stranding, you're mostly walking. So a walking video game is redundant because I can do that in real life. No self-respecting, rational person is going to buy a game which is 80% just walking.
            Watch this:

Does this look like a game that is 80% walking?
            Kojima is a fraud.

Now books/movies can do whatever the hell they want. Because they are not interactive. They can be fully realistic and replicable in real life and I'd have no problems with it.
Death Stranding should be a movie/book.

By this logic Death Stranding gets a pass because It’s hard for me to access exoskeleton legs irl

Poor argument because walking with th exo-skeleton in the game is indistinguishable with just walking in real life. Yes there are 300kg of stuff on your back, but it's a video game, you don't feel it anyway.

                and super cool electric vehicles
my normal gas powered truck just doesn't compare to something like what sam drives in the game
the car market is pretty terrible right now for buyers with wait lists over a year long for new EVs

Looking at the human-machine interaction, driving irl is much more interesting compared with driving in death stranding, no matter how interesting the lore behind the vehicle is. That's just pretending.

IRL is too restricting compared to what sam's allowed to do, where he can go and the type of vehicle he can operate
i have restrictions placed upon me that prevent me from likely ever obtaining a cdl yet sam can drive a commercial truck no problem
there's also no fees for playing the game beyond the initial purchase while a vehicle needs a lot of upkeep and care irl
the game offers an experience i can't get

    Common responses:
    >You didn't play the game.
    Yes I did.
    >Filtered.
I'd hope so. Death Stranding is for morons.
    >Walking simulators are a valid game genre. There are others like it.
Death Stranding is a AAA game with massive hype and marketting surrounding it. But it was never marketted as a walking simulator. Because then interest in the game would vanish.
I have played smaller, indie walking simulators - and have enjoyed them because they were marketted exactly as a walking simulator. My expectations were appropriately managed. The indie walking simulators were well paced, just long enough for a player to enjoy without getting bored, often they had interesting and engaging mechanics to go with it - such as puzzles.
Death Stranding fails both as a relaxing walking simulator, and as a puzzle walking simulator.
There's just enough time fall and BTs so you can't relax all the time.
But neither are the difficulties actually challenging. The BTs ultimately just separate you from your cargo - forcing you to waste time walking back to collect it.
    >It's relaxing!
Time fall and BTs are literally there to ruin your scenic walk.
    >It's not just walking! Look there's combat!
Didn't you say it was relaxing? Is combat relaxing? The combat is joke. Toss some shit and piss (literally) at the BTs. The guns you get eventually completely trivialise the enemies to the point of making them mere inconveniences.
    >Well I like it. Why are you raining on my parade?
It's bullshit that Kojima drones are enabling Kojima to shit out this crap. Walking simulators should be $5 max. Certainly not the full $60 or whatever. Definitely not AAA.
I'm writing this to those on the fence, those who haven't played Death Stranding yet.
I'm writing this so they don't force themselves into enjoying a AAA walking simulator.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Death Stranding. The gameplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the trigger buttons most of the traversal will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also Kojima's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his writing - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Hollywood movies, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just films - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Stranding truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the meaning behind Amelie's existential catchphrase "Like Mario and Princess 'Beach'" which itself is a cryptic reference to videogame classic, Super Mario Bros. 2. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kojima's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Norman Reedus tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I just found out that BTs can be babies too. I faced one and thought that he was far away at first and then understood that it was actually just a small baby. I fired a bolas at him. I feel pretty bad.
Also are BTs really that bad to take care of? With the bolas gun and the hematic grenades I can't see them as a real threat anymore.

Watched some streamers that hate the game playing it and they play like the biggest morons on earth. Using the bike in the canyon area and then going DSP style and yelling when they end up with the bike stuck at the bottom of it, falling everywhere, not planning out their route and just sprinting in a straight line. DS is the ultimate moron filter.
