No one know. People speculate a ton like [...] but there is no proof of any of it, just rhetorical evidence that requires several leaps of logic to reach any conclusion.

By the way the questline went, what would make the most sense is she being half crystallized much like her masters.

Sellen is the graven conspectus leader. She is the one who made the graven masses in Raya Lucaria and it is why she was expelled. She lived in seething hatred, believing herself above her former peers and leaders, that the morality of her studies was irrelevant and the personal danger beneath her.

        She was wrong.

Also while Zoraya does have some bad ends, at least one of them involves her setting out on a journey where things are left more open-ended. Will she "carry out her mother's work" and wind up much like Tanith, or will her experiences with you guide her down a gentler path? I'm okay with things being left to chance so long as the character survives at all.

The truth is Miyazaki is obsessed with the old legends like Beowulf and King Arthur where by the time it's over most if not all characters die (and ofttimes of misadventure), the last line of Morte D'arthur (barring Malory's talking about himself finishing the book) is literally 'and then they all died in the Holy Land', the thing is this gets really old in a video game done 5+ times already and with almost zero foreshadowing or attempts to prevent it.

          Yeah, it's speculation.
First you have to assume Jerren is saying the truth, when he's her enemy and a servant to the Carian family, which hates her and are the accusers.
Second, you have to assume she's the one making the graven mages, when the japanese translation makes it sound like they form on their own.
Third, you have to assume that for some reason all this time she was never balled or balled herself, neither did none of her masters, but suddenly she does because... karma I guess?
Fourth, you have to assume Sellen has been to all the spread out locations where graven mages show up, one of the them all the way to dragonbarrow (In my opinion, it's much more likely graven mages form naturally, and this supports it)

I'm not saying you're wrong. There's a good chance you're right, but what I'm saying there not nearly enough evidence to have a definitive answer. It does feels very out of nowhere and anti-climatic, but that's personal opinion.

The abyss which is what turns people into mageballs, the source, the glintstone flow, whichever translation you prefer.

She doesn't want to overthrow the Carians because they started giving bad grades or something. The Carian family directly opposed resarching the Primeval Current (because it's dangerous) so all 3 (Lusat, Azur and Sellen) got the boot but only Sellen is said to be a Graven Sorcerer. Sellen wants to take over to reinstate the Primeval research.
It's just very clear to me she wants power above all else and the Graven accusations fit the shoe perfectly.

                >She doesn't want to overthrow the Carians because they started giving bad grades or something
I never said that. She wants to overthrow them for the exact reason you posted. Think how much of a control freak Ranni is and how swiftly she gets rid of people who threaten her position.
                >It's just very clear to me she wants power above all else and the Graven accusations fit the shoe perfectly.
If that's your interpretation, then that fine. The way I see it, she doesn't behave like someone guilty when you first met her, but rather, as someone innocent who was accused of something, much like Karla from DaS3. I deal with people like this every so often in my line of work, and for me it is crystal clear she's not who people say she is.

But hey, that's the beauty of these games' lore. It's ambiguous and up to interpretation. A little bit less well done in ER than in previous installments, but still.

She is familiar with Seluvis, and is familiar with Ranni's fate with the stars. That doesn't mean she knows Ranni is in control of the Academy. I don't believe Sellen made all the meatballs, no.
            >First you have to assume Jerren is saying the truth,
Why wouldn't he? He does nothing suspicious throughout the entire game.
            >when he's her enemy and a servant to the Carian family, which hates her and are the accusers.
Why would anyone accuse or hate or consider her an enemy if she did nothing wrong? Is some invisible, puppet master 3rd party framing Sellen?
            >Lusat and Azur didn't meatball themselves
The game doesn't say they were part of the graven coven or anything. They just got mindraped by peering into the abyss.
There's lots of unclear stuff in Elden Ring (and Souls in general) but IMO Sellen's questline is pretty straightforward.

              >Why wouldn't he? He does nothing suspicious throughout the entire game.
              See here

              >The lore is written in english and then translated
Do you truly believe that when we have abominations of mistranslation like manuals being called cookbooks? Come on now.
              >If you assume NPCs are lying for no reason
Oh no, he's not lying. He probably completely believes what he is saying, as he's loyal to his masters, the Carian family, enemies of Sellen which wishes to overthrown them. That's why she was kicked out.

              He's loyal to the Carians.
              >Why would anyone accuse or hate or consider her an enemy
Because she wants to overthrow them which she makes it incredibly clear by doing exactly that?
              >They just got mindraped by peering into the abyss.
The abyss which is what turns people into mageballs, the source, the glintstone flow, whichever translation you prefer.

Its just killing the big old dragon at the fort in caelid. Pop a gold pickled fowl foot, slap on the gold scarab if you happen to have it, smack the immobile dragon's tail with a bleed weapon for a few minutes. How have you not heard of it? I mean yeah its less rewarding than the bird shit but it's still something I thought everyone did at least once.

Ah that. I wouldn't really consider it "farming", you don't get that much out of it.

It's good for a first time player still in early game. Elsewise go for the bird or just do what I do and invade and hope for overleveled phantoms.
