i did the first gate for the main quest and am now actively avoiding 100% of them while i sidequest
when you get back to the main quest you just do the required ones, which theres like 5 of, and you dont do any deep exploration of them, just run to the main tower thing
thankfully there's not any particularly fantastic loot in any of them really. it's easily the best game in the series as long as you avoid the gates
the gates are quite the let-down, yes
whenever i get around to do them, its time for me to install companion mods, take them in with me, and watch the carnage unfold
if todd is going to force me to go through that hell, im going to bring along overpowered minions to fight that shit for me
You're suppose to avoid Kvatch until you've finished all the exploration and side quests idiot. That way the gates never spawn until you've completed all the content bar the main quest.
Yeah that is legit the only horrible thing about Oblivion as a whole, shit was tedious even as a kid, now its just "what am I doing with my life" after the second one. Thankfully you can just pretend they dont exist by not following the questline.
I really like oblivion but i hate how everything you find at lvl 1 is iron. I like how in morrowind you could see a daedric rune and buy some invisibility potions to basically cheese your way into grabbing an ebony sword then drinking a recall potion to gtfo with your loot. or even if not cheesing just build a really strong character and kill mid lvl enemies to get mid lvl gear at lvl 1. where as in oblivion its like everything else is lvl 1 as well and after you level up a bunch you are punished for not leveling up the right way.
also jump spells, teleportation spells in general. the fast travel system making the world seem more interesting to get around in than just clicking on a map to fast travel.
I think Skyrim is a smoother game, but I enjoy Oblivion's quests far more.
It's also just the right amount of RPG elements to me. I really liked how stats worked in it.
Now I wanna go back and play it.
I probably have 2k hours between Skyrim and Morrowind but have never played Oblivion. Is it time? I'll need a new game soon I'm almost done with Baldur's gate 2
How'd you end up like that? Have you been saving it for a special occasion or just didn't have interest? Of course you should play Oblivion. I'm one of the fags who thinks it's not quite as good but god damn, all three games are still basically the same thing at their core and if you enjoyed even half the time you spent on those two then you'll enjoy a lot with this too. It's time.
im enjoying my heavily modded 2023 playthrough >glarthir dead, thoronir cucked, jauffres chest in the reading room emptied >about to do another theives guild quest (steal the bust from cheydinhal) >on the way to cheydinhal, some npc spawned on the road (i have a busier roads mod) with a very low disposition towards me (random) >some bandits attack me and i fight back, the npc also joins in to help but because his disposition towards me was so low, and he was in combat mode, he started attacking me too >the local imperial guards got involved, and this random npc, wearing fine steel armor like some kind of fucking leviathan, chewed through 2 imperial guards like it was nothing until the imperial horde from cheydinhal finally brought him down >looted that fucker and got myself some great armor, and sold the rest for some tidy coin >FLY CLIFFRACER FLY, SO HIGH
gods, its great to be back
>TACMTifaLockhart >Estrus >Ageha Tortured Soul HGEC fixed >Colourwheels Sexy Dance Club Beta v1_1
oblivion had the most degenerate japanese modding scene
great game until... >enter hideout >slay enemies >examine them >they are vampires >ohshit.jpg >become vampire >game ruined >load or restart game, or forget about it for years before giving it another chance
vampirism sucks. wear a condom
are there enemies on horseback in this game? I dont remember.
I think it's weird that there are all these bandits out and about, but no group of bandits has grouped together and taken over a ruin just straight up. imagine the powdergangers. go down, trade, do a few missions.
I dont think there are enemies on horseback.
Oblivion was one of the laziest AAA games I have ever played.
Honestly the things people love and hate about Morrowind are often the same, it really just depends on whether you like/tolerate them. It's heavy on reading, has little handholding, progression that is slow and challenging to start out, no quest markers, no map-click fast travel, 20 year old tabletop mechanics where your character's skills matter (and the tutorial explains none of it,) and faction questlines that are more a collection of themed chores that don't usually even turn into a plot. The focus is the main quest, worldbuilding, roleplaying, and lore.
The quests in Oblivion are mostly shit too >muh dark brotherhood
Shut up Emil. >Npcs does not acknowledge you
What does this even mean >spells and combat is worse
Shit take, spellcrafting and becoming le heckin op magerino was a niche feature and Skyrims left/right hand system beats oblivions awful spell keybind any day.
Additionally both games have poor melee combat but Oblivions manages to be worse than Skyrims anyway.
>What does this even mean
I guess you never played oblivion? In skyrim people shit talk you even when you become fucking dragonborn, save a city or become guild leader. In oblivion there's fame system that unlocks more quests, and changes how people talk to you. They also remember the shit you've done. And yes quests in oblivion are literally written better and aren't just "go to this dungeon and come back"
Oblivion literally has more tree types than Skyrim which only has 3 (pine tree/pine tree with white textures, autumn birch tree, and dead reach/swamp tree)
>>uses skyrim's level scaling
skyrim fixed it actually. its nearly impossible to accidentally underpower yourself. youd need to purposefully choose only non-combat levels to do that. as opposed to oblivion where even focusing on combat will still eventually build up too many errant levels to keep up.
clunky piece of turd.
oblivion is significantly worse than both skyrim and morowind
>t. zoomer retards
Comparing vanilla games no question, but Oblivion has some really great overhaul mods that help it rise to the top imo.
>t. never played oblivion
Based. Morrowind and Skyrim each of their charms. Oblivion is just a mess.
Skyrim has no charms. Oblivion has the best OST, quests, guilds, NPCs, dynamic interactions, and locations.
This, Oblivion is boring as fuck the only people believing this never played Morrowind.
I'm nearing my fourties
Leveling by holding down C for half an hour instead of using xp is trash
getting better at lockpicking by shooting people in the face is trash
>actually playing the game itself is trash
lol
because it's mogged by skyrim and morrowind and lacks soul
I tried to play this game twice already and always get filtered by like the 3rd Oblivion gate
Just rush to the top dude, you will be done with most of the gates in 5 minutes, and you are only forced to complete 7 in the entire game
i did the first gate for the main quest and am now actively avoiding 100% of them while i sidequest
when you get back to the main quest you just do the required ones, which theres like 5 of, and you dont do any deep exploration of them, just run to the main tower thing

It loses to both.
its literally the greatest game bethesda has and will ever create

Ah the era when everyone put heavy bloom in their games
That said oblivion is the best TESV game
>arena
>best quests
>best ost
>most campy of them all

still does, look up the Fankaizhi Manga Round Ass Body Replacer
>hate it
I don't?
Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, all three I've each spent hundreds of hours in.
play oblivion
Oblivion was the king of atheistic. It still looks good to this day.
My game began crashing out of the blue in launch. Can't even get pass the logo. I'm a bit upset.
great game until...
>enter hideout
>slay enemies
>examine them
>they are vampires
>ohshit.jpg
>become vampire
>game ruined
>load or restart game, or forget about it for years before giving it another chance
vampirism sucks. wear a condom
or just go to a church and get that shit nipped in the bud
i'd rather dick you in the butt :3
>YOU ARE THE ONE FROM MY DREAMS
>CHAMPION!
The only 2 memorable NPCs bethesda has ever managed to create
I don't Gankeriggers will give you an honest answer either way.
it's boring but it is PEAK comfy
indeed
Comfy, I wish Oblivion had a rendered exterior that you could see from indoors, I'm glad they fixed this in Fallout 4.
one of the best things about kcd tbh, it has that oblivion vibe while having great graphics
i love just sitting in the rattay rathaus and admiring the market below through the window
are there enemies on horseback in this game? I dont remember.
I think it's weird that there are all these bandits out and about, but no group of bandits has grouped together and taken over a ruin just straight up. imagine the powdergangers. go down, trade, do a few missions.

Skyrim is objectively better and at least roaming the world was nice to look at instead of copy pasted trees in fields.
shitty quests, npcs does not acknowledge you at all, spells and combat is worse
The quests in Oblivion are mostly shit too
>muh dark brotherhood
Shut up Emil.
>Npcs does not acknowledge you

i'm usually a vanilla for first playthrough guy but the levelled loot and levelling system seem like absolute dogshit. Should i mod them?
Swap Skyrim with Oblivion
NO
>uses morrowind level system
>uses skyrim's level scaling
>creates literally the worst fucking thing on earth
what were they thinking
>>uses skyrim's level scaling
skyrim fixed it actually. its nearly impossible to accidentally underpower yourself. youd need to purposefully choose only non-combat levels to do that. as opposed to oblivion where even focusing on combat will still eventually build up too many errant levels to keep up.
yeah because skyrim uses a leveling system that was specifically designed with level scale in mind
the reason oblivions system sucks is because the level you are does not at all correspond to the amounts of points you have spent on your skills
its not just that. the way scaling works was changed too.

meh
I don't care what anyone says: Oblivion is my all-time favorite game and it's brimming charm and soul.
