The game with a light novel-tier title is releasing this week outside of japan.
Is Ganker ready to play that wannabe Etrian Odyssey?

How can you go from this
To this
Sprite replaced? Atleast the witch looks cute
no confirmation, I went off of the official website but I can't remember if the original also had the bighat witch costum ( I think it did). They don't have the first costum showing in any of the trailer but then again even if they kept it in you can bet they won't show it
i downloaded the eshop demo just to stumble through character creation a bit long ago so I redownloaded it and checked real quick since I have nothing better to do. japan game has 18 (starter?) sprites, big hat witch included, so they're probably just avoiding the micro bikini potato in prerelease media
EO is trash and Experience has a lot more experience doing dungeon crawlers, it shouldn't be that hard for it to be way better than EO.
>Experience has a lot more experience doing dungeon crawlers
Experience isn't as well aknowledged as EO though, so this might be their chance to shine as everyone and their mother is trying to find the next EO replacement.
Even in the labyrinth of galeria/refrain threads when it came out you had Gankertards comparing it or asking how it compared to EO
Being the next EO is a bad thing though because EOtards are fucking babies that only play EO.
I don't give a shit about it being the next EO, I want it to be an actually good dungeon crawler, which given Experience it probably will, they got it down to a science at this point.
>they got it down to a science at this point.
Not too familiar with Experience and outside of NES-era I only ever got to play Refrain as a dungeon crawler. What would you recommend from them?
You don't look like you hate japan so a good starting point is either Demon Gaze or Operation Abyss.
Demon Gaze 1 and 2 are self explanatory, Operation Abyss and Babel are a remake of a previous trilogy they did, the Generation XTH, and yes Abyss is pretty much the first two games in one
Just get ready to go back to the 00s in more ways than one, because some portraits are let's say acquired taste and the UI of some of the games does feel like it comes from a PS1.
>UI of some of the games does feel like it comes from a PS1.
I fail to see ahere this is a problem.
Guess I got a big backlog coming up then
A lot of people take issue with the lack of "polish" some not solo dev on shoestring budget but not AAA studios tend to have, even less than Compile Heart and they are already considered AA.
And yeah with the exception of Demon Gaze 1 and 2 and the Generation XTH/Operation trilogy, all their games are standalone and can be played in any order, from the looks of it Mon-Yu will be a good starting point too.
>Experience
>literally every single game is the same rehashed class and skills
What's the point? Fighter with triple hit, samurai with cleave, assassin with hide, archer with concentrate.
If there's one thing I hate about some of their games that I tried, it's the gear system. It sucks so bad to get decent equips because they typically have some weird grind mechanic you have to use to get anything remotely decent. The only one that felt sort of tolerable about it was Undernauts, but gear still had its issues, on top of the game being way too generous with resources.
you're mad the game is too generous with resources, mad that the gear takes effort. WTF?
The treasure dream worlds and all those free XP balls are a bit much. I'm fine with stuff like red enemies dropping gear and prefer it that way, but you can get pretty unlucky and now your monk is two entire gear progressions behind because of bad drop luck. It doesn't help that sometimes later weapons are flat out worse than earlier ones.
With the other games, my main issue is encouraging exp grind. You have to grind for gear, which gives you more XP and it means that the progression can feel fucked.
If anything your pic sprites reminds me more of 7th dragon than etrian. But I will give it a try for sure.
>Spirit Hunter dev
I will support it just because of that
>comes with Spirit Hunter portraits
Are the English Releases still terribly censored?
first game has one censored scene, the spider in the mouth. It was the ESRB, not Aksys that wanted to censor it.
Second game has nothing removed/changed.
I should be clear, it's just that one image; the scene is the same otherwise.
Actually retarded in a game filled with the shit that it's filled with that's what the ESRB took issue with, but the ESRB has been a gay useless shitpile since it was created.
I hated the stupid long title in Japanese and I hate that they attempted to translate the whole thing. 99% of the time I'm all for staying true to the original but this is one rare instance where I would've just kept it as "Monyu" (the official abbreviation) in English. The NA cover art is also laughably bad. Still might pick it up, I was hoping they'd translate the Japanese demo. Also waiting to make sure they didn't censor anything.
JUST GIVE ME SPIRIT HUNTER 2
FUCK
So glad japan is still making png battle simulators. Guess I should make one with php and javascript and make millions
we are in the middle of an era where westoids keep trying to make jrpgs with sea of stars, chained echoes and more
they are all shit and complete garbage
Even though the games of theirs I tried are pretty samey, I'm probably gonna play it because I'm desperate.
Waiting to see how bad the censorship is. The fact that they are going out of their way to not show any of the sexualized characters in any of the marketing, not even screenshots, gives me hope they haven't actually censored anything.
shouldn't be censored
Yea
phys release or no?
your answer determines mine
There is one, on switch at least. Haven't looked if it's coking out anywhere else besides steam.
