It was a team effort by each one on its own, really. Ryotaro was the realest bro I've ever seen and the best written arc, Shinya the perfect boywife that could only be surpassed by my genderbent waifu, Nozomi's insane saviour complex and need of a purpose was relatable, Kokoro half kuu, half yan attitude toward yakisoba pan and Takamori-senpai was endearing, Chiyo nice bob cut.

Of course a game about egos is going to be carried by its characters. Just needed a playable Kakeru post-game, but it could be done just like the Caligula mods for musicians

It was good, but i cant blame anyone for dropping it on the timeloop arc

Not that much is repeated aside from that one cutscene in Sora's office. The loop is more so an excuse to get the protagonist closer to each character. Even the repeat bosses have different maps.

There are 2 different routes that are not repeated, which is the male monark and female monark.
The rest are repeated routes with a single change

The main difference is that you're with a completely different character with a different story arc to follow. And that character's story is what makes up most of the route you're on. I'm not saying there's zero repetition, just that it's far from being the endless eight. I'd even say this game is one of the better examples of a time loop. But I know it's not a popular narrative device, and that anyone who flat out hates time loops isn't gonna have their mind changed by this game.

            >And that character's story is what makes up most of the route you're on
Wrong, you're standing in the same office, you're going through the same clone lab area.
You're even using the same locker codes.

Not even mentioning that the mist parts in the time loop arc are all dumbed down.
The first mists were just perfect. You could find clues on what happened to the person, listen to interesting storys of the students and actual clues on their personality and background

Kokoros mist for example was just
            >Find note that tells you the position of the phone
            >Dodge obsessed once that chase you

I feel like on many aspects of the game, the devs focused more on the gameplay being a tool for the narrative. During each Mist segment with the other pactbearers, you see different aspects of the sin exposed by the npcs other than the antagonists'. Envy expressing crab bucket mentality and reliance on other universal forces like karma or esoteric deities rather than your own strength, Lust with the stalker guy and the yandere girl being more in love with the idea of inconditional devotion than actually you, Wrath being retribution against the nail that sticks out, those that don't fit the rules of an organization, a group, or your worldview, Pride having literal suicidal lemming masses. There's also the buddy you're going with to oppose them, Ryotaro wish for more power and influence perfectly contrasting the 'I'm okay with wallowing in misery and getting a hand taken as long as you get va... your arm taken as well', Nozomi having hope in her peers against Tsumabuki thinking them too worthless to be left with their own agency, or Kokoro still trying to either adequate others or evade them rather than confront them. Of course it's not a point of right vs wrong, but about opposing circumstances that led all of them to be that way. The conflict is not conclusive and you could come up with situations in which your partners would end up as screwed over as your enemies due to an unrefined ego.

By the point you face the others the point is more exploring both a kaleidoscope of who you are facing in the routes, and to delve deeper in the trauma Caligula Effect of the buddy you're going with rather than anyone else in the academy, all to make more cathartic the emotional moment where the timeloop ends and Animakinesis is revealed. Maybe they made them easier to avoid people getting tired of the game at that point, but really all the information you get in those Mists is about the pactbearers with tidbits of Cromwell files

I liked how Kokoro just tells you where the phones are because it fits her character.

It's a super low budget JRPG sold at $60 lmao. No idea what NISA's been thinking lately, they release random crap at $40-70 without even any marketing and then obviously no one buys it.

      Just look at this:
      https://store.steampowered.com/app/1921340/Fallen_Legion_Revenants/
      Came out 23 Aug, 2022, 3 user reviews, 4 all-time peak players.

      Or this:
      https://store.steampowered.com/app/1924810/Kamiwaza_Way_of_the_Thief/

Did they get a new CEO or marketing lead or something? Are they gonna run the company into the ground?

Looks like something i'd spend 5 dollar max.
Even then, i wouldnt even spend 5 dollars since it looks garbage

Its just a general new trend in the vidya industry to sell lowprice games for fullprice.

Nah, it's what Japan's been doing for years. All those super niche turboweeb visual novels sell for $80+ in Japan. Doesn't seem to work in the West though.

What was the issue with the Switch release (and was it ever fixed)? I am thinking of picking the game up and I'd prefer that system.

I played it on the Switch and thought it was fine. It has the issues you'd expect of a Switch release at this point. It looks a bit fuzzy in handheld mode, has some frame drops when there's a lot of shit happening on screen, and some menu inputs are slightly less responsive. There were some graphical bugs I saw, like the floor flickering white for second at one point, but nothing crazy or consistent. I also got the PS4 version later, and didn't feel any particular regret for playing through it on Switch first after seeing the difference. Graphically It looks like a bridge between a PS2 and a PS3 game anyways.

    why?

Because it feels like a genuine PS2 JRPG to its core, and the story has an earnest, non-hammy pathos to it that I think is lacking in a lot of recent JRPGs. Kinda reminds me of Persona 3.

If you don't mind a bit of grinding, and having to write things down or take screenshots for some puzzles, then yes, it's good. Although the grinding is trivialized once you get the Lust and Pride fiends. The game gives you these generic fiend units throughout the game in an order based on your ego stats, which are decided at first by a personality quiz, then expanded throughout the game by fighting or doing more quizzes.

      >Voiced by a girl
      >Green eyes, mole, tiny, fit
      >Entire theme is devotion and zealous faith rooted in abandoment
      >Goes from filial piety to absolute Senpai yandere obsession like if I paid dowry
      >QUEEN chess piece
      >Sexest song in the game with lyrics about longing for lost love
      >The 100+ lewds of the game are exclusively about him
I wish I resisted but they did it to me. At least Nozomi's ass is still more appealing and I can say that I liked Ryotaro's arc more

Yeah at this point I'm sure not only that you're that guy at /smtg/, but from your style also that you deliberately talk about niche games there to reply to yourself and complain about them. Downright bizarre behaviour, makes me wonder if it's some reverse psychology stuff like that guy on Ganker with World Trigger. Wouldn't really care if you didn't make it such a pain in the ass to search in the archives later

I recommend picking it out the moment a small discount comes
