He finished the High Rank story line without ever organising his items
Going into every stage with shit like 2 Potions, 5 Mega Potions and whatever random shit he'd previously picked up
          It was a nightmare

Like bollocks you did. All you 'really' needed were some paintballs and whetstones if you were melee. And even then after a while pattern recognition kicks in and you knew where the monsters would go to in an area.

Monsters don't spontaneously run away and despawn. This can only happen in expeditions and only happens after they've been on the map for like a fricking hour. If you're b***hing that you couldn't kill a monster in an hour then you have bigger problems than loud noises. You can also prevent roars from interrupting you with the right gear, and reduce stun duration by 90% with the right gear.

long gunlance is boring but moronic strong and wide catches up towards the end too, you get some fat numbers when you plant a wyrmstake (the regular one, not the anal plug) on a tenderized weakspot

What's there to prepare for? There's no unique poisons or afflictions that are exclusively for certain monsters that make them behave in an exploitable fashion. All you do is slap them till they run off so you can slap them again till they die. Paralyze, sleep, pitfalls and bombs are all you get and there's a limit on those.

The issue is that you played Rise or GenU

Okay guys lets not pretend that prep was a big part of 4th gen or 3rd gen. (I haven't played 2nd gen but can't imagine it's true there either). I'm tired of this meme, 90% of hunts your item load outs were 10 pots, 10 mega pots, 10 honey, and thats about it. If you really struggled with a monster you might bring flash bombs, sonic bombs, traps, or antidotes and what not. But for most monsters there was no prep beyond going to the box to restock, empty the carves from the previous hunt and then grab hot/cold drinks as needed.
Hell elements been dogshit on most weapons so you just go raw for basically all matchups unless you played a select few weapons. So that aspect of prep is entirely bypassed.

The roar stun hasn't exceeded the monster's own roar animation duration since after 3U.
In 3U the roars were seriously a threat, because it was pretty much a guaranteed hit on you.
Now it's just a minor nuisance, if you don't roll through the roar, it just means you stop attacking for a bit longer.

      what's wrong with catching monsters?

        Anonymous

A lot of times it ends up being slower than killing because people don't know the exact point they need to ease off the gas pedal. It also prevents players from carving. Carving has a higher chance of getting certain parts, and in multiplayer it's better to coordinate beforehand instead of popping down tranqs and a trap without notifying anyone. If you're always going for captures you're going to be really short on certain materials.

I know in older games it was possible to only get specific things from Carves and Captures, I didn't think it was much of a big deal in World

it can be a big deal in world in some cases because the weapon upgrade trees are fricking annoying and usually require the same exact shit across all weapon types, so if i want the rathian sns, the rathian gunlance and the rathian charge blade i'm gonna need anywhere between 40 million and 80 hundred billion rathian spikes
now that's a bad example because the drop rate on spikes is the same whether you carve or capture but you get the idea

            Anonymous

            >I didn't think it was much of a big deal in World
It's not a total loss, but it's obvious that someone that specced out and ate food specifically to get extra carves because he needs gems would get pissed if someone that hasn't said a word unilaterally decided to capture a monster.

You're saying that ironically, but there's a reason games figure out new innovations and there's also a reason for some of them becoming incredibly popular. The attitude of OLD GOOD, NEW BAD isn't healthy and will stagnate you. Stop staring at the past.

It's just that MH has you grinding literally the same monster at the same stage for way too long
But that is just my opinion of course

          Anonymous

I prefer to think of it as obtaining mastery of a fight
The first time you encounter a monster you've no idea what its going to do and you might even fail
The second time you encounter a monster you know its attacks
The third time you encounter a monster you know its weaknesses
And so on, the more you fight the better you get at it

  21. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

It's not really a game, it's a collection of incohesive features. Take the passive armor skills for instance, half of them are objectively junk and all the good ones are related to damage. Also the status of the monsters is on a timer, they flop and flail until they get tired, then what happens? Oh they go back to normal and then repeat the process. Oh don't forget the rage state which is also on a timer where instead of going back to normal they just turbo charge and prevent you from hitting the at all for a few minutes. It's a really fun (not) system completely unreliant on how you play.

Sure you can stack stagger or enervate or whatever, but all weapons do this damage anyway and all it does is once again initiate a other state where the monster is a little bit slower or flopping around on the ground. It may seem complex at first but it's actually extremely rudimentary and incohesive.
