I used to love Cowboy Bebop but going back and watching it, it was kinda trash. A small handful of episodes telling an overarching story scattered between an assload of monster of the week episodes about nothing. And the story wasn't even that good. The show is carried hard by its presentation.
I feel the same. I think nostalgia played a huge factor in me praising it so much. But on my most recent re watch, which was 3 months ago, I don't hold it to the same high pedestal that I once did.
I really dislike this current dichotomy of things either being “masterpieces” or “trash.”
Bebop is good, but I also don’t think it’s the mother of all anime that it’s been considered by many for so long. That said, there’s only one episode that I think was bad, to the point where I don’t even remember what happened in it or what it’s called, but I do remember it looking very ugly; whoever boarded it made it look very stereotypically anime and it was distracting compared to the rest of the series. I also personally do not like the “Pierrot le Fou.”
