My nephew (19) is DMing his first game and invited me to "teach" him. I decided to be the biggest butthole of a player I can be. I'm already making a half-elf rogue, planning on going with the “murder hobo” archetype.

It’s not malicious, it’s a family policy to never go easy when teaching stuff. Prevents stress and makes dealing with defeat easier and whatnot. What’s the best bad thing to do, to teach him how to deal with bad players?

You're playing DnD with him instead of one of the literal HUNDREDS of better games out there, you're already at rock bottom.

You should humiliate his moronic zoomer friends by playing better than them.

Does he know you're going to challenge him? Like if you're up front about training him to deal with autistic power gamers, sick, go for it, otherwise you're just being an annoying homosexual, and worse, knowing that you're an annoying homosexual

Alright, in that case go for it. It's honestly a skill that needs developed. I was in a game with a dude whose wife perpetually ruined the fricking session by unilaterally making decisions for the group, constantly trivialized fights by unloading her best stuff at monsters, blocking the rest of us out, then demanding a long rest so she could approach the next fight at full power, giving other players direction, and arguing with him about whether or not his villains' motivation made any sense. It took him years to learn to control her and even then, she kept it up until the next to last session, where he got so frustrated he just ended the game before it could resolve. I want to give your nephew the benefit of the doubt and say his friends might be cool, but if they aren't, he needs to be able to train players

Exactly thanks for seeing my point. Really my goal is to help him both shape the story to prevent people exploiting it and to know that it’s okay to just kick frickers out. I decided that I won’t override the other players, purely because they’re randos to me so I don’t want to. My ultimate goal is to just have him kick me out of the group, many DMs lack the balls to do that.

Please, for the love of god, stop being the person you are. Either through self-improvement or death. Either's fine. But you're premeditating being an absolute wienerfruit to your nephew for the terrible crime of sharing a hobby with you. What in the everloving frick is your problem? You're the type of person to shit in a library book and use it as an argument while helping people is wrong because they might destroy things you lend them.

Why not wait to see if they even have any of those before you go and make it worse by condensing all your bullshit into one day?

The he's already failed the lesson by not un-inviting you when you made your intentions clear. The way to deal with bad players is to not play with them.

I hope you're planning to explain things to him rather than just being a problem player. Just learning from experience doesn't require a teacher, and while experience is necessary effective teaching requires explaining or showing correct courses of action and explicitly pointing out mistakes rather than just presenting a problem for the student to solve.

Sounds malicious enough. Anyway if you really want to do this, just ignore everything he says, actively avoid anything that looks like a plot hook, question his every ruling and never learn your abilities.

But if you do that the only thing he should do to "deal" with you is kick you out. It'd also probably sour him on the entire thing. I get wanting him to be resilient but this is an entertainment hobby, if you make it unbearable he's more likely to just go to another hobby than "tough it out" or whatever, since it's ultimately meant to be entertaining.

    >my younger family member asked me to teach him how to play a game
    >I decided I'm going to be a moron and ruin the enjoyment for everyone while giggling to myself about how useful this confrontation is for him
No wonder you fricking morons end up posting here, kek I hope he kicks you out you stupid frick. If you want to teach him, teach him don't act like a piece of shit and pretend its just tough love. I think you actually enjoying and being invested in his game would be a better lesson than whatever grim, subhuman behaviour you have planned.
