I hate how nerfed they feel in Doom Eternal in comparison to Doom II. I still like Eternal but they should had made Revenants tougher.
Fun Fact, their original attacks are in the game, but they do no damage, apparently Id Software thought they would be too hard. I have seen Revenants use their rockets and do their patented bitch slaps but they do almost nothing.
The Tyrant can sometimes decide to fuck your shit and stop spamming micro missiles and instead fire regular rockets that can kill you from full hp and armor in 3 -4 hits. Id should had embraced their work instead of nerfing and patching every bit of difficulty to favor the scrubs, it was shaping up nicely until The Ancient Gods Pt2.
It'd have been pretty cool if Rev missiles were like Doom 2, but they had a bunch of potential counters, like other things in the game. I could see homing missiles be a little problematic with what they're trying to do in that they force you to somehow deal with them by making them crash into something, so you're not advancing, but they could just add a bunch of ways to get rid of them like a lot of other enemy behaviors.
TAG2 has got to be one of my biggest gaming disappointments ever. ID was proving to be the only AAA western dev with balls and then they just gave up right at the finish line. It doesn't even make sense to nerf a game so harshly a fucking YEAR after release, absolutely pointless.

Level design is usually a mix of Doom-esque level exploring, escalating later into massive horde battles that are all about selecting the right weapons and prioritizing the right enemies to keep the pressure down.
The enemies are supposed to look the way they do. They're visually distinct so that you know exactly what you're dealing with during the times when you only have a second or two to flick your view around the environment and see what enemies are attacking.
Sam (outside of parts of 4 since they got the Talos Principle writer on it, which was a mistake IMO) just has an excuse plot to get you through the game, and him never actually getting a shot at fighting the main antagonist despite the herculean tasks he undergoes is pretty much the joke.
I have not played SS4, I heard that and Siberia are a good return to form after SS3, which I say it was not as bad and I get what they were going with this entry trying to lure COD babies.

SS4 is amazing if you can look past its glaring technical problems. The pop-in is legendary, it runs like shit, it looks almost worse than SS3, the open world maps are pointless, but they nailed the shit out of gunplay, the weapon balance is the best it has ever been and there's like 40 enemy types and each does something neat.
Just be aware that most gadgets are OP. They can solo entire fights for you.

I actually quite enjoyed 3. The thing you have to understand about its COD atmosphere in the early levels is that the game started out as Croteam being commissioned to make a milsim, the deal fell through, and now they're stuck with these modern city levels they've made along with various other assets. So that kind of evolved into making a Serious Sam prequel about him getting to the time machine. There's also some enemies and models that stem from a failed pitch to make a Doom game, like the Scrapjack enemy, who's an obvious Mancubus knockoff.
A lot of other devs in this situation would crumble trying to make a game from scraps like this, but I think 3 is a great time. The weapons are punchy, most of the levels are fun to navigate, and once you're out in the desert and have the space for proper horde fights, I had a lot of fun with those.
Sam 4 definitely has a lot more negative qualities in my eyes. The huge, empty levels, the AI partners that screw up encounter design and make enemies behave in unpredictable ways, the half assed skill tree that feels bolted on, the writing that tries to tell an actual story and fails to draw interest, etc. And the awful fucking performance cannot go unmentioned.
Siberian Mayhem rectifies a lot of these complaints and can be quite fun.

ion fury is nothing like those games at all
it's a bloated mess where all the levels are interconnected and the guns don't feel as good as the old games
