Taito still has quite a few arcades in Japan.

But it looks like Square Enix acquired them.

            > ES1 Corporation was established on June 1, 2009, as an operator of arcade facilities.[31] ES1 Corporation was owned by the shell company SPC1, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings.[31] SCP1 dissolved when ES1 became Taito Corporation in February 2010.[31] As such, the current Taito Corporation is technically the company formerly called ES1 Corporation

Oh okay...and it looks like that weird stuff had been happening before too so maybe you are right about them

I wish they would take the whole library of whatever they technically still own or dead games from the early arcade/2600/7800 days and gave them all a Pacman Championship Edition treatment. Like in particular, I want to see refreshed versions of Centipede, Burger Time, Riddle of the Sphinx, Kangaroo, and Food Fight.

          Microsoft is Atari X10
          Sony is Atari X100

The thing is that there have been so many countless moronic deals as of late that it makes the Atari crash look like a drop in the water. Sony for instance paid 3 billion for Bungie...after they were already neutered and still weren't allowed complete control of them (which is what the suit with them is about now that the delays and setbacks keep stacking up for sony). Sony is at the mercy of 3rd party devs which makes them obsolete as a gaming platform.

It's honestly impressive how Sega managed to knock it out of the park with the Genesis ONLY, and then proceeded to do nothing but shit their pants for the next decade until dropping out.
You don't get too many one-hit wonders in the vidya industry, especially with console makers.

Genesis was mostly because of SoJ letting their regional offshoots do things with little interference but once the Genesis/Mega Drive started actually beating the SNES in US/EU and other countries SoJ got massively butthurt and started interfering with operations more as Sega of Japan has always been exceedingly petty. Sega US having a changeover of leadership during the Saturn era who didn't have any faith at all in the console and just wanted it to die already also completely fricked them up and this bled into the Dreamcast era too.

          Anonymous

Wrong, it was the 32X (which was SoA's idea) and Saturn's failure in the West that killed them. Saturn was a success in Japan and even outsold the PS1 for its first couple years, so the Saturn's failure was largely Sega of America's fault.

Between the 1998 Japan launch and the US launch a year later, Sony announced the PS2.
          They did it to themselves.
By launching early in Japan where the Saturn was successful, they cut their own success short by pissing off devs and their Saturn install base.
By launching late in the US where the Saturn essentially ended support in 1997, they left everyone with frick all for two fricking years.

    Microsoft.

Only reason most people don't think they're incompetent is because Microsoft hid how much money Xbox was bleeding every generation and MS in itself was rich enough to sustain them for nearly 2 decades.

Tons and tons of blunders, generation after generation. People only managed to forget about these blunders after years of MS throwing money at it, to either fix the problem or build up a library so no one would overlook the blunder.
Any other company would have collapsed in less than 6 months.

Have an old GAF meme for the Perfect Dark 360 blunder at E3

      Anonymous

Also, another Wallguy meme, starring Solid Snake

It's weird how quickly forget about how embarassing MS's shit is, every single generation. They just power through it.

Even Halo was viewed as a complete disaster at the e3 right before the Xbox launched. Almost everyone described it as MS offering shit on a stick, where attendees didn't want to get near it because of how bad it looked and played.
Halo, the game that became one of the biggest hits for that generation was seen as a huge stinker.

It was so bad that at SDCC that year Microsoft was demoing Odd World game instead.
They threw a ton of money to get Halo to work in time for launch.

The best part was that the Xbox booth was also fricking empty
I remember even stuff like Colony Wars years earlier having people crowding around to play it.

No one expected the Xbox to be anything but another 3D0 due to every catastorphy, and every generation after it, Microsoft had laughable events and frick ups. Even the most recent press conference, where it was leaked their upcoming games would become multiplatforms made them a laughing stock.

It's amazing how unlimited money makes these gigantic blunders seem like it was nothing. Even follies are turned into positives.
