Really hoping those 03 toys come out good, that show is what got me into the series and the addition of skins for it, the movies, and the other cartoons in Shredder's Revenge was a treat and having an almost full room of my friend and his mutuals matching with those skins was great. I'm not as familiar with Super 7 as I am NECA, but the stuff I have seen of their TMNT line looks good, so I have some faith. Karai wasn't in the 80s cartoon because she made her debut in the Mirage comics years after the show started.
Also Shredder's Revenge Karai is mostly based on the old TMNT fighting game, especially her moveset.
Karai in SR is basically a composite of her 03 design (which is actually an alt skin since the default was given brighter colors to fit the 87 aesthetic), plus moves referencing Tournament Fighters and the personality from the 2012 cartoon.
Karai originates from the Mirage comics in the 90s but didn't appear in the 87 show, only games based on it (like the aforementioned Tournament Fighters). She made her animated debut in the 03 show which adapted her as Shredder's daughter.
As long as they have good articulation (or base them on the figures that were in the Mech Wrekkers that were more posable) I'm fine. I loved these things as a kid, but I want to be able to pose them properly, plus some added detail like the colored wraps on the weapons.

I don't know, considering how obsessed they were with doing their absolute best to please the fans I'd argue they'd try to keep everyone and keep adding onto it even if Sakurai is a living zombie by the end of it. The amount of goodwill, eyeballs, and hype they got from it would be easily able to make any sequel even more insane, and they've already got their work more or less done for them since it would very likely still look and function the same, they'd just need to make minor tweaks. Not saying it's easy or anything, just that since the Switch version is fairly recent I can't imagine they'd have to do everything from scratch.
If they did remove anyone it would obviously be third-party collab ones (So no Banjo, Steve, Sora, Snake, etc.) and probably the echoes which would trim the roster by what, 15 characters? Megaman is the only one I see staying along with Sonic because they're way too iconic. They also have stuff they haven't touched like Starfy, Captain Rainbow, Isaac/Felix, XC3 or XCX characters (They could even make a Skell playable), potentially get Kalas from Baten Kaitos as a crossover character from Bamco, they could do EBA/Ouendan characters as some sort of interesting Phoenix Wright-esque gimmick character, Layton, I fully see them adding Captain Toad at this point, etc.

Considering the game is on a new engine, cuts were expected, unless you are retarded. Those cuts are definitely going to spark some anger but I feel it’s for the best. If roster size had to stay the same, it’s better to introduce a lot of new characters in this one and bring some vets back in future titles or as DLC. the games are based on the archie comic turtles though, and are really not even that, its like saying hypothetically the mcu would be faithful to the comics including maximum sider in the next spider-man film. Honestly Toph getting cut sucks hard, but her getting replaced Azula makes so sense. If anyone should have replaced her, it should have been Zuko. He was a frequently requested character and is arguably the second most important ATLA character after Aang. They could have even given him alts to represent his different haircuts and outfits from each book, or a blue spirit alt. They could have mixed his dual swords with his firebending too. This roster already has loads of dumb choices but this one feels especially egregious.
