His comment is not based on whether or not you have any theft history, he says that line if you have 500 or more gold. If you have less than 500 gold he instead comments that you're short on money and should join his scheme. Basically he assumes anyone wealthy got it dishonestly.

The trigger is based on how much gold you have. If you have a certain amount or higher, he does the "wow you're so rich, you're obviously a criminal" speech. If you have lower than the baseline, he spins it more like "wow you are in desperate need of money, would you like some help with that?"

Problem is, the gold it checks for is ridiculously low: 500, to be specific. It is insanely easy to get 500 gold just by playing the game without stealing anything (and dont pull the "dungeon looting is stealing" crap, if the loot doesn't say STEAL in big red letters then its fair game). You have to try very hard NOT to have that amount of gold by the time you finally get to Riften. Hence, why most players have Brynjolf assume you're a crime boss.

    Bethesda!

If they raised the gold check to like 2000 or something, it would address this complaint.

It’s still a really minor nitpick though. You don’t have to do his quest.

it's because assassins are allowed to break the status quo and have a decent fricking plot. Every other guild story is barren of any story.

            >fighters guild: you're a merc/thug who fights bandits and you find out they're werewolves so you kill bandits holding silver swords until the story ends
            >mages guild: you're a student but barely and now you need to solve the mystery of an orb and do tedious dungeon crawling but with 5% more magic

At least in dark brotherhood you're introduced to interesting characters, and the purge adds a great Shit hitting the fan moment that leads into a great climax. And they create an actually memorable antagonist.

Go read the dialogue for the thieves guild quests. They make you the player, agree to all this shit about how Maven owns the town and has all these powerful friends and how you're going to enforce her will on dissenters, and then she herself is a c**t to you directly, and then you don't even give me the option to kill her or tell her to frick off or anything. Best you can do is let the quest sit in your log as "not completed yet" when I'd much rather permanently end discourse with the objectively unpleasant character.

Not what I said at all. If killing Maven simply fails the thieves guild questline then that's fine.

                >why not?
It does a disservice to the medium.

why? Computers are still more limited than a human DM but it seems to me that all a game needs to do is establish a setting and premise then just crunch the numbers as you do whatever you want. Hopefully SELECTIVE use of generative AI will make this more feasible soon.

that's objectively untrue. If anything they're just deviating further to appeal to the lowest common denominator and maximize the appeal at the cost of actual narrative and compelling gameplay.

BOTW gameplay shits all over OoT in every conceivable way. The singular way in which OoT is a better game is in the dungeons. I won't defend BOTW shrines.

Those are weak points for sure but I think the positive aspects of weapon variety outshine the negatives you listed. OoT's options are much more limited and it makes the game less exciting. I would like to see durability removed though.

If you're going to make an open world sandbox medieval RPG then your goal should be to make it as free as D&D. Being a railroading DM isn't okay just because your campaign runs on a computer.

that was me. When I say "your goal" that means your should try as hard as you can, with the understanding that it'll never be completely possible. Making immortal NPCs that are only essential to side quests is the opposite of that.

If they shut down Thalmor acess to Skyrim entirely there would be no more Thalmor to kill.

                Just keep sending Justiciars.
                > Sir the note from the Embassy says the Stormcloaks have won and we should stop sending troops.
                > That is clearly meant to decieve anyone who intercepts the message.
                > Sir the message addresses that and states it is not a ruse. It says the Nords are spawn camping and killing everyone when they get there.
                > You are young and foolish. Send more Justiciars now.

The world space is littered with dead Justiciars.
Go to Markath and wait for the Justiciars to spawn after a Stormcloak victory. Hilarity ensues.

He is literally just scripted to approach you and say that in that town to start the quest line. Seems lazy unlike the Dark Brotherhood where you do need to kill an innocent NPC before getting the "We know" letter.

Because the game is designed to make it so easy to steal that most players are bound to steal something before they meet him, even by accident.

Alive Peeing and Private Needs both have big scripting problems and NPC Private Needs is dead/missing/never worked or something.
I am way too tired to learn and put up with Creation.
Someone please tell me a better more talented person has already made a different mod that makes important NPC ladies add a part to their routine where they go somewhere out of the way and pee each day.

The first thing he states is Bryn says the same thing to you the first time you meet him no matter what.
This is factually and verifiably wrong. This is the worst kind of wrong.
He did no research and just wrote a hit piece.

Not only did he start wrong in his conclusion he used being wrong again as critical point. Gaming journalism is trash because the fans do not have the highest of standards.

Bryn always says the same thing to you, because not having 500 gold by the time you arrive at Riften is simply not possible unless you specifically aim for it, and even then it doesn't invalidate his complaint about how fricking stupid of a comment that is.

Go choke on big fat Black person wiener you lying manlet, your last game flopped and the next TES game will as well.
